The UN is now hosting in the public entrance hall of its New York headquarters a Palestinian exhibit which includes pieces that artfully depict all of Israel as Palestine. The display goes hand-in-hand with the logo featured at the top of the cover page of the speech that Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas’ delivered to the General Assembly on November 29, 2012. That emblem continues to promote a one state solution, Palestine without Israel.

On November 29th the General Assembly granted “Palestine” the status of “non-member observer state” under the pretense that the move brought the world closer to a two-state solution. But that same evening Palestinian UN representative Riyadh Mansour opened an exhibit entitled Palestine – Memories Dreams Perseverance.” The political message is not subtle, with the works bearing titles such as “homeless,” “delirious in exile,” and “to Jerusalem we travel.”[ More...]

This is the description Natalie Solomon, manager of the Israel Programs of Taglit-Birthright‘s Alumni Community, gives of Mahmoud Abbas’s entry into the UN General Assembly Hall Thursday. She was the leader of the small group of young Israel supporters who were originally refused admission to the assembly hall at Thursday’s “The Question of Palestine” debate that concluded in a vote to upgrade the status of the Palestinian Authority to non-member status.

“We found ourselves in a sea of Palestinian supporters – including the 100 brought in by the UN’s own Division for Palestinian Rights. Revealingly, during Abbas’ lengthy speech the outbursts of clapping across the gallery would commence **before the translation of the Arabic sentence into other languages had finished. It was an exercise in what one might call Benghazi-style spontaneity,” she concluded.

Solomon said that while the crowd cheered for Abbas, “when the Israel ambassador was speaking you could hear a pin drop. There were two or three points when we clapped and afterward we stood up and gave him a standing ovation.”

Today the UN will name Palestine an (non-member) "observer state"[Update: Resolution passed with 2/3 majority]. Also today, the UN expels a prominent Jewish group from the Palestinian vote

Today, for the first time, the United Nations will name Palestine a (non-member) “observer state” by first engaging in exactly the charge that they press against Israel: apartheid.

For kick-off day and the vote at the General Assembly, which is supposed to be all about mutual respect and coexistence, “Palestine” has teamed up with the “UN Division for Palestinian Rights” and UN officials to pack the Assembly hall with Palestine supporters while denying access to a prominent Jewish organization.

Staging thunderous applause with no discernible dissent for the unsuspecting global media is evidently a top Palestinian priority.

A great Jewish sage once wrote, "The truth can hurt like a thorn, at first; but in the end it blossoms like a rose."
His words came to my mind today. His insight could really benefit many in this hall.

It takes a well of truth to water the seeds of peace. Yet, we continue to witness a drought of candor in this body's discussion of the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict. On this historic day, real facts in the General Assembly remain few and far between.

For any who have been here on November 29th before, today is déjà vu. Some of you may have noticed that some minor changes have been taking place in the Middle East lately, but any changes in this body's resolutions condemning Israel are very, very rare. Indeed, it didn't take a creative writer to craft the language in these resolutions. The exact same text is copied and pasted, year after year - much of it dating back five decades.

The account we heard today is one-sided. It is unilateral. It is unjust. And it is unhelpful. It presents a distorted and impartial version of history. It transforms the cause of Palestinian self-determination into a deliberate attempt to denigrate, defame, and delegitimize the State of Israel.

The political dynamics in this body are sadly predictable. Every November, the leaves change color in New York, but the automatic anti-Israel majority never changes its votes. Each and every responsible member of the international community that affixes its seal of approval on this exact same set of resolutions - which are irrelevant at best, and damaging at worst - should do a little soul searching. Is this the message that you want the General Assembly to send to the world?

Mr. President,

Let me take a moment to remind this Assembly about what actually occurred on this day 64 years ago - and in the days that followed.

On November 29, 1947, the United Nations voted to partition then British-Mandate Palestine into two states: one Jewish, one Arab. Two states for two peoples. The Jewish population accepted that plan and declared a new state in its ancient homeland. It reflected the Zionist conviction that it was both necessary and possible to live in peace with our neighbors in the land of our forefathers. The Arab inhabitants rejected the plan and launched a war of annihilation against the new Jewish state, joined by the armies of five Arab members of the United Nations.

One percent of Israel's population died during this assault by five armies. Think about that price. It would be the equivalent of 650,000 dying in France today, or 3 million dying in the United States, or 13 million dying in China. As a result of the war, there were Arabs who became refugees. A similar number of Jews, who lived in Arab countries, were forced to flee their homes as well. They, too, became refugees.

The difference between these two distinct populations was - and still is - that Israel absorbed the refugees into our society. Our neighbors did not.

United Nations-affiliated election monitors from Europe and central Asia will be at polling places around the U.S. looking for voter suppression activities by conservative groups, a concern raised by civil rights groups during a meeting this week. The intervention has drawn criticism from a prominent conservative-leaning group combating election fraud.

The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe ( OSCE), a United Nations partner on democratization and human rights projects, will deploy 44 observers around the county on Election Day to monitor an array of activities, including potential disputes at polling places.

Liberal-leaning civil rights groups met with representatives from the OSCE this week to raise their fears about what they say are systematic efforts to suppress minority voters likely to vote for President Obama.

The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, the NAACP and the ACLU, among other groups, warned this month in a letter to Daan Everts, a senior official with OSCE, of “a coordinated political effort to disenfranchise millions of Americans — particularly traditionally disenfranchised groups like minorities.”

The request for foreign monitoring of election sites drew a strong rebuke from Catherine Engelbrecht, founder and president of True the Vote, a conservative-leaning group seeking to crack down on election fraud.

“These activist groups sought assistance not from American sources, but from the United Nations,” she said in a statement to The Hill. “The United Nations has no jurisdiction over American elections.”

Breitbart News spoke with Engelbrecht about Cummings’ and Boxer’s attempts intimidate poll volunteers. “Rep. Cummings has no power to independently issue a subpoena,” Engelbrecht said. “But that didn’t stop him from leaking his letter to the same Los Angeles Times reporter who wrote the original story slandering us. Then Rep. Cummings went on Soledad O’Brien’s show on CNN and, just as Sen. Boxer had done the previous week all over MSNBC, he used his power of office to assault private citizens. Leaders on the left, including Soros funded organizations like Common Cause and DEMOS, are working overtime to discourage citizens from volunteering this election cycle; fear mongering to perpetuate the myth that they are somehow being victimized. Why? They are either trying to rally their base, trying to hide something, or both.

This past Monday, Palestinian Media Watch reported on two Palestinian NGOs that were spreading hate speech and promoting violence against Jews and Israelis. 24 hours later, one NGO's website was closed down while the other NGO was being investigated by one of its funders, Save the Children UK.

PMW reported that the Palestinian UN-funded NGO, the Burj Luq-Luq Social Center, performed a puppet show for children, whose educational message was: "Hold machine guns, not cigarettes" because "youth are being killed by the Jews." The NGO posted the video of the puppet show on its website next to the names of its funders. After PMW's release, the website is now showing the following message: "Coming Soon! This website is coming soon, please check back later." [http://burjalluqluq.org/main/]

PMW also documented glorification of terrorists by PYALARA, an NGO funded by the EU through the European Commission Humanitarian Aid Office, Save the Children UK and Cordaid. I think that's a very good question. Mohammed Merah claims he killed the Jewish children in revenge 'for deaths of Palestinian children'.

Just over a week ago, a UN national officer who tweets under the name @KhuloodBadawi posted a picture of a bloodied Palestinian girl. @KhuloodBadawi falsely attributed the killing to Israel:

In fact, the little girl had been mortally injured in a car accident back in 2006.

But did the image of a dead Palestinian child and a UN officer claiming the cause was Israeli attacks incite Mohammed Merah to execute little Miriam Monsonego?

The Palestinian Authority chose the mother of 4 terrorist murderers, one of whom killed seven Israeli civilians and attempted to killed twelve others, as the person to launch their statehood campaign with the UN.

In a widely publicized event, the PA had Latifa Abu Hmeid lead the procession to the UN offices in Ramallah and to hand over a letter for the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon.

The official PA daily reported that she launched the UN campaign last week, and noted that she is the "mother of seven prisoners and of the Shahid (Martyr) Abd Al-Mun'im Abu Hmeid." However, the paper did not mention that 4 of her imprisoned sons are murderers[...]

The four sons are serving a total of 18 life sentences for the following crimes:

Nasser Abu Hmeid - 7 life sentences + 50 years - commander in Fatah's military wing the Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades in Ramallah. Convicted of killing seven Israeli civilians and 12 attempted murders.

Nasr Abu Hmeid - 5 life sentences - Member of terror faction of Fatah, Tanzim, and convicted of involvement in two terror attacks and arms dealing.

Sharif Abu Hmeid - 4 life sentences - a member in one of the brothers' units carrying out terror attacks against civilians and soldiers. Accompanied a suicide bomber to his attack in March 2002.

Muhammad Abu Hmeid - 2 life sentences + 30 years - involvement in terror attacks.

A fifth son, Abd Al-Mun'im Muhammad Yusuf Naji Abu Hmeid, the one reffered to as "Martyr," was a member of the military wing of Hamas, Izz A-Din Al-Qassam Brigades, and planned and carried out the ambush and murder of an Israeli intelligence officer.[Continue reading]

MAIDUGURI, Nigeria (AP) — A radical Muslim sect blamed for attacks across northeast Nigeria bombed a police station and robbed two banks Thursday, killing 12 people in an assault highlighting the group's escalating willingness to shed blood, authorities said.

The sect, known locally as Boko Haram, stormed into the city of Gobi in Adamawa state in broad daylight, first attacking the police precinct with bombs and raking the building with gunfire, police commissioner A.T. Shinaba said. The group killed four police officers and a soldier guarding the area, he said.

The sect members then shot their way into two local branches of First Bank PLC and United Bank for Africa PLC, killing seven bank employees before speeding away with an unknown amount of cash, Shinaba said. Four others suffered injuries in the attack.

GENEVA, July 6 – UN Watch, a Geneva-based monitoring group, today called on UN rights chief Navi Pillay to condemn the publication of an anti-semitic cartoon by Richard Falk, the UN Human Rights Council’s expert on Palestine.

“For the UN human rights system to be credible in the fight against racism, its own representatives must not be allowed to incite hatred and racial discrimination with impunity,” wrote UN Watch executive director Hillel Neuer, in a letter sent today to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

In August 2010 the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People granted accreditation to the Free Palestine Movement (FPM), an extreme leftist network based in California which participates in anti-Israeli projects, focusing on sending flotillas to the Gaza Strip. Its objectives are to support the de facto Hamas administration in the Gaza Strip, isolate Israel, blacken Israel's image in the eyes of the world and increase international pressure on it.

2. The FPM is headed by Dr. Paul Larudee, who in 2009 was given an award by Ismail Haniya, head of the de facto administration in the Gaza Strip, in honor of his support. Paul Larudee applied for and received accreditation from the UN committee as an NGO member of the "network of civil society organizations active on the question of Palestine."

3. Following the receipt of accreditation, the FPM added "A United Nations Accredited NGO" to its letterhead. In our assessment, the FPM regards the accreditation as a kind of UN stamp of approval for itself and its anti-Israeli projects, particularly the flotillas (Wolfgang Grieger, the committee secretary, ended the letter by wishing the FPM "every success in [its] endeavours in support of a comprehensive, just and lasting solution to the question of Palestine.")[..]

FPM's other plans and activities

11. In addition to its media-covered flotilla launches to the Gaza Strip, the FGM is promoting other ideas for embarrassing and slandering Israel. They include dispatching a plane to the Gaza Strip ("Palestine by air") in collaboration with other elements (among them "the authorities in Gaza," i.e., the de facto Hamas administration). The status of "Palestine by air" is unclear.

What, No Israel?

That alone surprises me more than the glaring absence of certain Islamic countries like Iran or Somalia. But, at least no one can accuse the United Nations of anti-Muslim bigotry!

The United States will come under the spotlight at the UN's top human rights assembly's for the first time over the coming week along with other countries that face scrutiny by the Human Rights Council.

For some reason, this part in the article gives me no confidence that the United States will take a stand against any charges of human rights violations (emphasis mine):

Several dozen non governmental organisation are expected to lobby the debate on the US human rights record, while Washington will also defend its record.

I'm sure the Obama Administration's idea of defense will be to apologize.

Admittedly, America is not perfect. But I challenge anyone to name another country more tolerant, more charitable, or more generous.

And more dedicated to defending human rights throughout the world, not just within our borders. Name one other nation with patriots more willing to sacrifice their own lives so that others have the opportunity to experience freedom.

There are a lot of people who think America oversteps in protecting the basic human rights of others. They think America should mind its own business and that it has no right to interfere with cultural practices of others. These same people turn a blind eye to egregious human rights violations such as modern day slavery, political executions and reprehensible, institutionalized, sexual abuse and exploitation of children.

Who do such victims have standing up for their rights, if not the Greatest Defender of Freedom? Certainly not those who think ill of America.

And certainly, not the United Nations.

Rashad Hussain, America’s special envoy to the Organization for the Islamic Conference (OIC), the Saudi-based body formed in 1969 to “protect” Jerusalem from the Israelis, announced a new title this week for President Barack Obama. According to Hussain, Obama is America’s “Educator-in-Chief on Islam.”

Hussain so designated Obama in a keynote speech Wednesday, June 23, at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. The occasion was another “post-Cairo” conference, following on the event that welcomed Islamist ideologue Tariq Ramadan to Washington in April. Hussain also declared that Obama is “Educator-in-Chief” on the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, which has produced diplomatic and political events around the capital for some years. Hussain affirmed with satisfaction that presidential iftar dinners, where the fast is broken after sundown, and which had formerly been limited to diplomats from Muslim countries, now welcomed American Muslims from throughout society.

In his remarks, Hussain also congratulated Obama for sending Valerie Jarrett, a senior adviser, to last year’s annual convention of the [terror tied...ed]Islamic Society of North America [ISNA], a notorious front for Saudi-financed Muslim radicalism. Worse, Hussain has now divulged that the U.S. will support the OIC in the latter’s United Nations effort to criminalize “defamation of religion” widely perceived as a measure to suppress criticism of Muslim practices that violate human rights. "The OIC and the Obama administration will work together in the UN on the issue of defamation of religion, especially in Europe," said Hussain.

— As the Geneva-based non-governmental organization UN Watch warned last week, controversial ex-Sandinista Miguel d'Escoto is already abusing his new mandate as advisor to the UN Human Rights Council to promote divisive politics, pledging today on Colombian TV to use his UN podium specifically to target the U.S., which he compared to a "monster," and Israel.

"A man who has eagerly sided with international criminals such as Iran’s Ahmadinejad and Sudan’s Al-Bashir has no credibility on human rights, and embodies precisely the inverted morality and debased political culture that currently reigns at the UN Human Rights Council, which just this week added Col. Qaddafi's Libya as a member," said UN Watch executive director Hillel Neuer.

"We continue to urge the U.S. government to make clear its objection to d'Escoto's appointment, especially after today's outburst, in which he openly confired his intention to breach UN principles of objectivity and non-selectivity," said Neuer.

According to D’Escoto, America's “foreign bases” in Colombia “constitute a violation of the human rights” of Colombians and neighboring countries.

The United Nations Correspondents Association recently screened a film for foreign journalists that purported to show Israel attacking innocent activists. An Israeli request to show a second film that would put the events of the first in a more accurate light was originally granted, then denied at the last minute.

The screening was organized by the president of the Correspondents Association, Giampaolo Pioli, who invited correspondents to see an “Israeli attack on human rights activists.”

The film shown was shot by one of the passengers on a Gaza-bound flotilla that aimed to break Israel's naval blockade of the Hamas-controlled region[...]

The footage shows Israeli troops preparing to board the vessel, then switches to scenes in which passengers treat the wounded.

Mirit Cohen, spokeswoman for Israel's UN delegation, asked to attend the event and show a film prepared by the IDF Spokesperson's unit. The IDF has released a film showing members of the pro-terrorist Turkish group IHH on the Mavi Marmara attacking soldiers with metal clubs and throwing one soldier overboard; a second film shows the ship's Chief Officer testifying that the violent attack on soldiers was premeditated.

A senior official from the office of the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) told The Jerusalem Post on Wednesday night that the trucks were waiting to go into Gaza at the Kerem Shalom border crossing, pending approval from Hamas.

“Hamas has refused to allow those trucks to go in,” the official said, “and if the aid is so urgent, my question is, why are they not allowing it into Gaza?”

The official added that “we have conducted talks with the Red Cross [to try and get the aid in], but Hamas is still refusing. In the meantime, the rest of truckloads will wait in Israel until further notice.

Apparently hell isn't ready for him yet.
