An al Qaeda-inspired extremist called on British Muslims to claim benefits to raise funds for a terrorist training camp, a court has heard....

Discussing terrorist fundraising, he said that Muslims in Britain could earn in a day what people in Kashmir, a disputed region divided between Pakistan and India, are paid in a month.

He went on: "On jobseeker's allowance we can earn that, never mind working for that."

BBC:

UK police recorded at least 2,823 so-called honour attacks last year, figures from 39 out of 52 forces show.

A freedom of information request by the Iranian and Kurdish Women's Rights Organisation (Ikwro) revealed that nearly 500 of these were in London.

Among the 12 forces also able to provide figures from 2009, there was an overall 47% rise in such incidents.

Honour attacks are punishments on people, usually women, for acts deemed to have brought shame on their family.

Such attacks can include acid attacks, abduction, mutilations, beatings and in some cases, murder.

Ikwro said its research, carried out between July and November, is the best national estimate so far of the extent of honour violence in Britain, although the charity says the figures do not give the full picture.

Its part of Muslims' religion to abuse, terrorize and murder women who step out of line. Infidel criticism is racist and insensitive to their religious freedom.

The nine men accused of conspiring to bomb, among other targets, the British Parliament have pleaded not guilty to the plot. Look what magazine inspired the plot (pun intended):

Nine men have denied plotting to launch bomb attacks on landmarks including Britain’s Parliament and busy shopping areas....

Prosecutors accuse the men of agreeing on targets, discussing materials and methods, carrying out reconnaissance, attending operational meetings and downloading and researching files “containing practical instruction for a terrorist attack.”

Several also are accused of having copies of the al-Qaida magazine Inspire.

British police say 22 people have been arrested outside of the US embassy in London during a protest over the use of military drones in Pakistan.

Scotland Yard confirmed the arrests on Friday at the demonstration organised by a group calling itself United Ummah.

The demonstration was advertised as a gathering that would include Friday prayers outside of the US embassy to draw attention to "the murder of Muslims with drones".

News is starting to leak about the arrest this weekend of a New York City man who planned to bomb police and military facilities. The NY Post reports:

The NYPD and Manhattan DA’s office have arrested a terror suspect who was planning to bomb city police facilities and US military sites, where he plotted to target returning war personnel and the families who gathered to welcome them home, The Post has learned.

The suspect, who lives in Manhattan, was arrested after he actually purchased bomb-making materials, sources said. He’d been on the authorities’ radar for about a year, the sources said.

It wasn’t immediately clear exactly where he planned to attack.

We can report here exclusively at PJM that the man arrested is Jose Pimentel of Harlem. On his Facebook page he describes himself as:

I am a Muslim convert from the Dominican Republic looking for other muslims living in the US specially in New York City to share a brotherhood with and to help each other stay firm on the religion. Also looking for anyone that wishes to learn more about Islam and other religions.

I think it was just a couple of weeks ago that I read that Islamist extremism was on the decline in the UK. Oh what a week and a sting will do to mess up a data set:

Officers from the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit detained the men at their homes in the Sparkhill area of Birmingham on suspicion of travelling to Pakistan to undertake terrorist training and of raising funds for terrorist purposes.

A police spokesman said the suspects, aged between 19 and 24, had been arrested as part of Operation Pitsford, a large-scale inquiry which has already seen eight other people charged with a variety of offences.

BBC:

Home Secretary Theresa May is banning Muslims Against Crusades, a group planning an anti-Armistice Day protest.

The organisation had planned to repeat a demonstration seen last year, when members burned poppies near to London's Albert Hall.

Mrs May's order, which comes into force at midnight, makes membership or support of the group a criminal offence.

The organisation is closely linked to a host of other previously-banned groups.

...Muslims Against Crusades is the latest incarnation of the organisation originally set up by extremist preacher Omar Bakri Mohammed, who fled the UK six years ago.

...Its previous incarnations, Al Ghurabaa, The Saved Sect, Al Muhajiroun and Islam4UK are all proscribed groups.

Anjem Choudary, the leading public figure in the organisation, accused the government of attempting to cover up the truth.

Recent posts there included one by Abu Izzadeen asking of the assassination of President Barrack Obama was legal. Izzadeen, born Trevor Brooks, has since been arrested for violating the conditions of his early release from prison. He was serving time for supporting terrorism.

A British Muslim laments the "martyrdom" of the "shiekh" Anwar al-Awlaki, a leader of al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. Oh, and then he prays that God will give Osama bin Laden the highest level in jannah (heaven).

You can wrap your treason and support for terrorism in religious terms, but it's still treason & support for terrorism.

He claims the ideology we are fighting is Islam. Which an odd statement given that the vast majority of those killed by al Qaeda are Muslims, and the vast majority of those fighting al Qaeda are also Muslims.

Update on 7th Arrested in Birmingham Terror Ring

Two of the men are said to have traveled to Pakistan where they received terrorist training and made suicide videos before returning to build a bomb.

The men were under surveillance as part of an “intelligence led operation” by MI5 and the police as they discussed their plans, which were picked up by listening devices.

Two other men allegedly helped raise £12,000 by collecting for charities which was said to be used for the purposes of planning their attacks. A sixth man was accused of failing to inform police.

As the men made their first appearance in court, Deborah Walsh, prosecuting, said: "The terrorist ideology behind these offences is to commit mass murder in the UK."

Irfan Nasser, 30, from Sparkhill, Birmingham and Irfan Khalid, 26, of Sparkbrook, Birmingham, are accused of plotting their attacks between Christmas Day last year and their arrest last Monday.

The charges say that they travelled to Pakistan for training in terrorism including bomb making, weapons and poison making.

While there they are said to have made a “martyrdom film” and later began planning a “suicide bombing campaign or eve[...]

Ashik Ali’s brother, Bahader, 28, and another man, Mohammed Rizwan, 32, both from Sparkbrook, Birmingham, allegedly knew of the plans but failed to inform police “information as soon as reasonably practicable

The wife of a suicide bomber who targeted Christmas shoppers in Stockholm has been arrested by British police on suspicion of helping to prepare for the attack.

Taimour Abdulwahab, an Iraqi-born Swede who studied at a British university, killed himself and injured two others when he detonated explosives in a crowded shopping street in December.

British police confirmed Wednesday they had arrested a woman at a house in Luton on Tuesday -- the city where Abdulwahab lived with his wife and three children. Officers also searched two properties in the city, about 34 miles (55km) north of London.

Two reverts from Germany who are mixing with some very bad dudes on Facebook decide to hop a boat to London where the police are suspicious and check their luggage. What do they find?

Jihadi propaganda material as documents and a laptop computer bearing an Al-Qaida flag as a sticker. Robert B. and Christian E. were arrested as terror suspects.

A few weeks later British prosecution accuses the two German converts of possessing material which can be used to build bombs and explosives and to plan terrorist attacks in the UK. Amongst the material found when B. and E. had entered the UK was a document titled “How to build a bomb in your Mom´s kitchen” – a article from the English-language Online magazine “Inspire” produced by Al-Qaida in Yemen. “44 Ways of supporting Jihad”, a essay by US-Yemeni cleric Anwar al-Awlaki was also part of the material in E. and B.´s possession.

A SUSPECTED al-Qaeda chief detained in Britain has been freed on bail after penning a hand-written statement to show he has had a "change of heart" on terrorism.

The man, said by MI5 to have had links to Osama Bin Laden and a senior role in an Afghan terror training camp, has been let out to live with a pal.

There's more:

MI5 believe he had direct links to recently shot former al-Qaeda chief Bin Laden AND terrorists plotting to bomb Strasbourg Cathedral in France and Los Angeles Airport.

I'm going to Disneyland!

Mr Justice Mitting, the judge in his case, said "U" had produced a written statement in which he "signalled a change of heart"...

"What he says in his statement is that he wished to have the chance to show 'how I and my world views have changed. I have seen the chaos and suffering caused by war and violence and want to see another way'."

Sure you can look at it as an apology letter. But another way to look at it is an admission of guilt.

This guy has been awaiting deportation for years and years to Algeria where he is under indictment for terrorism. But the British courts wont deport him for fear that he'll be tortured by the government there.

Instead, he'll walk the streets of London. That'll show the world how civilized Europe is!

The Henry Jackson Society and the The Centre for Social Cohesion have updated their yearly report on the UK connection to Islamist terrorism. As in other years, statistics from 2010 show that the UK continues to be a major hub of Islamist terrorist activities.

None of the information was particularly surprising. For instance, that most of those convicted of Islamism related offenses (IROs) were high school graduates and were either gainfully employed or were going to college. Or that the one ethnic group most disproportionately represented in terrorism related cases were those of Pakistani background.

However, one thing that might be interesting to note to US policy makers and law enforcement officials is that 66% of those convicted had no direct links to organizations deemed illegal in the UK such as al-Muhajiroun (who's members now operate under the umbrella of "Muslims Against Crusades") or al Qaeda. Further, none of those who were convicted in 2010 had attended a terrorist training camp. This suggests that group membership should not be a key factor in deciding which individuals to further investigate on suspicion of terrorism.

However, the study also shows that while the majority of those convicted had no direct connection to illegal groups, that these individuals were connected to other individuals who were connected to groups such as al Qaeda. That is to say, someone they socialized with was considered more or less a legit terrorist or extremist. Lesson: who you are friends with matters.

The entire thing is worth a read, especially for those with an academic or professional interest in homeland security and counter-terrorism.

I think these findings bolster some of Aaron's suggestions made here about online jihadis.

Wow, at least they're being honest:

It gets better as the pamphlet linked above calls for the release of "all Muslim prisoners". And by "Muslim prisoners" they name convicted terrorists such as Abu Qatada and Abu Hamza.

This would be the same group that prayed for God to accept Osama bin Laden as a martyr in heaven. They also used the lion image which would be unmistakable to jihadis who would recognize the symbol as saying bin Laden was a "lion of Islam".

Daily Mail:

England's universities have become a breeding ground for extremism and terrorist recruitment, according to a disturbing government report.

Officials have identified 40 English universities where ‘there may be particular risk of radicalisation or recruitment on campus’.

A soon to be published Whitehall report – seen by the Daily Mail – will point to a string of examples of students going on to commit terrorist acts against this country or overseas.

..Alarmingly the Prevent review says that ‘more than 30 per cent of people convicted for Al Qaeda-associated terrorist offences in the UK... are known to have attended university or a higher education institution.

‘Another 15 per cent studied or achieved a vocational or further education qualification. About 10 per cent of the sample were students at the time when they were charged or the incident for which they were convicted took place.’

The more educated ones are the more dangerous.

Five men were arrested near a nuclear power plant in England's North yesterday. The young men from London were detained by a special unit that guards nuclear facilities in the UK. London is a long drive from Sellafield.

So, scoping it out or just out on a nice drive through the countryside?

Karachi, April 23(ANI): Al Qaeda is planning to target UK-bound flights taking off from Pakistani airports, using undetectable chemical explosives available in liquid form, according to a report.

An intelligence agency has reported that a Pakistani airport will be used for a terror attack on a UK-bound aircraft in the near future, The Nation reports.

Intelligence agencies have also reported that the terrorists have already completed the plan to achieve their target.

The spy agency pointed out that the terrorists would use liquid explosives, which are undetectable and can be carried by passengers without any hindrance.

The communique stated that limited information is presently available about the people or group involved in the plan.

The same government that is subsidizing the Bible desecration has also just arrested a Welsh Assembly candidate for burning his own copy of a Quran. No hypocrisy there. None at all.

The video features a man identified only as “Musa the British” who is seen wearing an Afghan-style hat and reading a prayer book.

He is sitting crossed legged on the floor against white-washed walls, wearing glasses and holding a set of prayer beads.

The script at the top of the screen reads: “May Allah have mercy on him,” indicating that he has died, although there is nothing to show whether he was shot or launched a suicide attack.

The security services are now trying to identify him to confirm whether he is British and discover if he may have been accompanied by other British radicals in Pakistan.[...]

The latest video is designed as a recruitment video for suicide bombers and militants, featuring image after image of dead fighters, accompanied by a song glorifying their activities, that can be watched on a mobile phone.

It has been credited to both Hittin Media and Nida ul-Khurasan [call to Afghanistan] two sites associated with al-Qaeda and the Taliban.

The video first appeared in August last year but has been released in the last few days with English subtitles which identify one of the martyrs for the first time as “Musa the British.”

The video is accompanied by a nasheed [Islamic song] in urdu, suggesting it was made in Pakistan.

Logan's Warning is calling it an "assassination attempt". Contrary to early reports, no shots were fired.

The man said to have carried out the assault is described as an "Asian", which is what the Brits call Pakistanis or Indians. Given that the assault was: a) at the EDL leader's house; b) began with the assailant throwing something at the house in an effort to draw him out, this seems to indicate that this was a deliberate attack and not some random act of violence or failed home invasion.

In fact, it sounds to me more like an attempt to scare the EDL leader into backing off. Which in my mind is an act of terrorism very much along the lines of the terror tactics used by the KKK in trying to suppress desegregationist sentiment.

The BBC, though, is calling it simply "an attack":

Officers were called to Kevin Carroll's home in Bolingbroke Road, Luton, late on Thursday after reports an object was thrown against the window of the house.

Mr Carroll said he went to investigate and saw a man who appeared to be holding a shotgun. No shots were fired.

Also, given that the assailant had a sawed off shotgun, what does this say about gun control laws in the UK?

We have five who have been "remanded to custody". Which I take it means, you stay in jail and four more set for hearings this afternoon.

Guardian:ive men were remanded in custody today charged with terrorism offences including conspiracy to cause explosions.

Four other men arrested with them and also due to appear at City of Westminster magistrates court had their hearings adjourned until later today for legal submissions.

Those remanded were Gurukanth Desai, 28, Omar Sharif Latif, 26, and Abdul Malik Miah, 24, from Cardiff, and Mohammed Moksudur Rahman Chowdhury, 20, and Shah Mohammed Lutfar Rahman, 28, from London.

Chief magistrate Howard Riddle remanded them to appear at the Old Bailey on 14 January.

The four due to appear later are Nazam Hussain, 25, Usman Khan, 19, Mohibur Rahman, 26, and Abul Bosher Mohammed Shahjahan, 26, all from Stoke-on-Trent.

They are all among 12 men arrested a week ago in raids by counter-terrorism police from forces in London, Cardiff, Stoke-on-Trent and Birmingham. Two men from Cardiff and one from London have since been released without charge, West Midlands police said.

Again one of the possible targets of those recently arrested in the UK were Christmas shoppers.

A large-scale terror attack was aimed at British landmarks and public spaces, security officials said Tuesday as more details emerged and police searched the homes of 12 British suspects being held for questioning.

Lord Carlile, the government's independent watchdog for terror legislation, said Tuesday the alleged plot appeared significant and involved several British cities, but he did not identify the targets.

...Possible targets that were scouted include the Houses of Parliament in London and shopping areas around the U.K., according to a security official who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the investigation was ongoing.

Also of note computers used by those arrested have been seized. Hey is anyone "missing" from the forums?

Website used by woman who stabbed MP encourages further attacks:

A radical website has praised the stabbing of the MP Stephen Timms and published a list of other MPs who voted for the war in Iraq, along with details of where to buy a knife

The website, Revolution Muslim, is hosted in Bellevue, Washington, and includes a disclaimer invoking the first amendment of the US constitution, protecting free speech.

Dame Pauline Neville Jones, the security minister, has complained to the Americans that they are allowing radical websites to be run from the US.

In a statement published this week the website praised Roshonara Choudhry, who tried to stab Mr Timms to death during a constituency surgery in Beckton, East London.

Choudhry, 21, who was jailed for life on Wednesday, is thought to have radicalised herself over the internet.

She told police she had visited the Revolution Muslim website and watched videos on Youtube by Anwar al-Awlaki, one of the leaders of al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsular.

“We ask Allah to keep her safe and secure, to hasten her release and to reward this heroine immensely,” it said.

“We ask Allah for her action to inspire Muslims to raise the knife of jihad against those who voted for the countless rapes, murders, pillages, and torture of Muslim civilians as a direct consequence of their vote.”

The statement added: “If you want to track an MP, you can find out their personal website after typing their name in this website.

In all the annals of "no-sh*t", this one may take the cake.

But there are two kinds of "groundbreaking" studies. The first is the study that disproves conventional wisdom. The second is the study that proves conventional wisdom and leaves the reader wondering why no one thought to do such a study before. This one is clearly in the latter camp.

Another one of those, "I wish I had done this study years ago" moments.

Some highlights from the executive summary (bold = mine):

Al-Qaeda and al-Qaeda inspired terrorism remains the biggest threat to the UK’s national security. The Security Service estimates that over 2,000 people in the UK pose a terrorist threat and in March 2005 it was estimated that there were up to 200 al-Qaeda trained operatives in the UK. The British-based threat does not only affect the UK: a number of British Muslims have been convicted in foreign courts or have fought for (or trained with) terrorist or extreme Islamist groups abroad....

Islamist Terrorism profiles 124 individuals who committed suicide attacks or were convicted for Islamism-related terrorism offences in the UK between 1999 and 2009. There were a combined total of 127 convictions and attacks, which will collectively be referred to as Islamism related offences (IROs)....

IRO analysis supports the theory that the UK faces a threat from ‘home-grown’ terrorism.

• 69% of IROs were perpetrated by individuals holding British nationality.

• South-central Asia features prominently among origins of ancestry, accounting for almost half (46%) of all places of origin by region of ancestry. Furthermore, over a quarter (28%) of those who committed IROs have some Pakistani heritage, of whom at least 80% (n=29) were British nationals with Pakistani origins.

• The most common origin, after British Pakistani (23%) and those of unspecified origins (9%), is Somali, which was the origin of ancestry for eight of those convicted for IROs (6%).

• Among UK residences, London features most prominently, with just under half (n=61, 48%) of IROs being committed by individuals living in London. The boroughs of Waltham Forest and Newham within North East London were together home to 30% of London-based perpetrators (n=18). Outside of London, the two most common regions were the West Midlands (13%) and Yorkshire and the Humber (9%).

Say hello to The Islamic Standard, a Leicester based blog dedicated to bashing British troops and praising terrorists. And these aren't generic condemnations, he names the names of the fallen dead, telling his readers that they are psychopathic murderers who are going to hell:

He had been guarding comrades as they cleared land in front of a checkpoint in the Nahr-e Saraj district, Helmand, when he was hit by the blast on Friday, sending him to the punishment of the grave, which will seem like a pleasant dream when he is put in the hellfire on the day of judgement....

Why are they [his parent's] proud? He killed people for a living, what a disgusting terrible human being he was. No better than a seedy contract killer hired to bump off people in the UK....

Our Bara should be shown clearly, these soldiers are not heroes, they are murderers, rapists, thugs and scum who when back in the Uk commit massive violence and even sexual violence against the people of this country who have the misfortune of living near an army base, imagine how they behave towards our brothers and sisters in Afghanistan?....

They could have paradise if they chose the right path, but instead chose to become soldiers of Shaitan and as such, though we make du’a for them we are certain if they die in this state they go to the hellfire and it is an abode they have earned well.

On that blog, Dawud has a lengthy post on a "methodology for achieving victory". Victory for whom? Why, for Muslims over the kafir US and British troops of course. While never coming out and saying who the enemy is and who "the Muslims" are, the majority of the images we see are of terrorists -- in Afghanistan and Somalia. The clear context being that this small group of "Muslims" -- the terrorists -- will gain victory over the enemy -- non-Islamists and the West, including his own country.

The websites also feature lectures from radical clerics, included many from al Qaeda in Yemen's spiritual adviser Anwar al-Awlaki (see also here and here).

Yesterday I said I didn't think it was that big of a deal that a man who worked for British Airways was arrested in a terror fund raising plot. That was because he worked at a call center and so presumably was not in any position to use his job with BA to further the plot.

But this guy? He worked at Heathrow.

Now, I've flown in and out of Heathrow on many occasions. That a would-be terrorist or jihad sympathizer works there is not surprising in the least. But still, what are you going to do, fly in to Gatwick? That's just crazy talk!

One wonders which terrorist group these lot were trying to raise funds for? Shabaab? Lashkar-e-Taiba? The Caucuses Emirate? AQIM? With each group comes sympathy from a fair number of the children of immigrants who feel a connection to their parents' homeland and towards jihad.

One wonders if they ever think about the reason their parents left in the first place? Namely that their countries of origin sucked, with no small amount of that suckiness being directly attributed to a certain religion of peace.

The Sun:

A HEATHROW Airport worker was last night under arrest over a terrorist fund-raising plot.

The man is the second British Airways employee in a week held on suspicion of raising cash for an attack - possibly on a jet.

Anti-terror cops swooped on the homes of the airport worker and two other men in Slough, Berks, at 5am yesterday.

The suspects - aged 31, 32 and 43 - are being held at London's top security Paddington Green police station.

Searches of the Slough suspects' homes were carried out yesterday and computer equipment and documents taken away for examination.

Here is the UK's Channel 4 "Dispatches" expose on how the Islamic Forum of Europe is secretly infiltrating the Labour Party in an effort to bring down British democracy from within. I don't think you'll be shocked to learn that they're using the East London Mosque to spread their vile anti-freedom Islamist message.

Guess who's preached at the mosque in the past? Anwar al-Awlaki. The American traitor who inspired the Fort Hood massacre and the failed Christmas Day airplane bombing.

The Islamic Forum of Europe says attacks against them are attacks against Islam. But the good news here is that it is Muslims themselves taking the lead against political Islam. Kind of hard to call them Islamaphobes.

All that we know about the guy is that he's 30, works for British Airways at one of their call centers, and is Asian -- which is what Brits call people from India and Pakistan. He was arrested for raising funds for terrorism.

I guess the danger here wasn't that he would personally be blowing up airplanes, it was that he had access to information which could be used in planning. But it doesn't seem like where he worked was as important in this case.

Times:

The alleged plot to raise funds for a terrorist attack – possibly on an airline – is thought to have been uncovered following a tip-off.

The employee was among 800 staff dealing with passenger bookings in one of BA’s two UK-based call centres.

Staff can access to details of thousands of flights and are familiar with basic security procedures.

But there is the outside possibility that someone with access to who was on what flights could use that information to choose a flight with a politically valuable target on it.

Irregardless, the arrest serves to remind us that Britain has a serious problem with would-be terrorists and jihad sympathizers. Unfortunately, we have the same problem.

I'll let this Daily Mail summary of the recent BBC documentary "Generation Jihad" speak for why you should watch the whole thing. I'll embed all six parts of episode 1 of it below the fold. I'm watching it as we speak, so I may have some commentary in a bit. Daily Mail:

Religious extremists are increasingly turning to the internet to find, indoctrinate and radicalise young Muslims, according to a new documentary series.

Like sexual predators they prey on vulnerable young people, quickly brainwashing them with Al Qaeda propaganda and very quickly turning them into potential terrorists.

New BBC2 series Generation Jihad claims that growing numbers of bright young men dubbed ‘entrepreneurs of jihad’ are using the internet as a tool to foster extremism.

Many prey on younger men and women curious to learn more about Islam but instead bombard them with anti-Western and vengeful rhetoric – leading to a generation of online recruits for jihad.

UPDATE: Expect the usual "the police are unfairly targeting Muslims" garbage. But it gets good in part 6 below. If any one finds episode 2 which should be airing tonight or tomorrow aired yesterday on BBC2 posted online let me know. We don't get to watch this stuff on our side of the pond unless you put it on the internet.

Lest we forget, the Christmas Day underwear bomber, Umar Abulmutallab, graduated from the University of London. No way he could have been radicalized there. No. Way.

A radical Islamist said to have mentored a British suicide bomber is teaching and preaching at a top university.

Bristol-born Reza Pankhurst is allegedly spreading the message of hardline group Hizb ut-Tahrir at the London School of Economics.

The public school-educated 34-year-old is said to have been a major influence on Omar Sharif, who took part in a suicide bomb attack in Israel in 2003....

Pankhurst was jailed for three years in Egypt for promoting the banned [Hizb ut-Tahrir ] organisation in 2004....

[Pankhurst] is working as a teaching assistant at LSE while studying for a PhD there....

A member of the student society said: 'He preaches every other week and is constantly bringing the subject around to politics, talking of Afghanistan and the need to establish the Caliphate, or Islamic state.

Armed officers boarded the Dubai-bound Emirates EK004 flight - which had 331 people inside - on Friday night.

Police said the alarm was raised when "a verbal threat was made to staff" as the plane was taxiing for take-off at 9.15pm.

Three men, aged 58, 48 and 36, were arrested on suspicion of making a bomb threat.

The trio, thought to be British men who were sitting in economy class, are being held in police custody.

Officers carried out a full search of the aircraft and found nothing suspicious.

The other passengers were taken off the plane and put up in a hotel for the night ahead of a rescheduled departure this afternoon.

Online he was known as "charminghardnut" -- you're welcome -- but in the meat world he was known Adam Khatib, a 23 year old a factory worker from east London. That nickname seems appropriate as Khatib is being sent to prison for his role in a plot to blow up transatlantic airlines. In prison he will undoubtedly use that nickname once more -- you're welcome, again.

His co-conspirators, Nabeel Hussain and Shamin Uddin, were also convicted on related charges.

BBC:

"Khatib may not have been informed of the ultimate target, namely passenger aircraft... all that was required of him was an agreement to play his part in bringing about the murder of others."

The court heard that Khatib had became fascinated by radical Islam as a teenager.

Signing one of his school assignments "Adam Osama Bin Laden," Khatib became a cause for concern to teachers worried about his increasingly extreme views, including anti-Semitic outbursts in the classroom.

After leaving school he befriended Ali, who is six years older. Ali egged on his younger charge and in June 2005 he took him to Pakistan. ...

They were there at the same time as Assad Sarwar, who is now serving a life sentence for his part as the chief bomb-maker in the conspiracy. Sarwar admitted learning to make bombs in Pakistan.

Soon after Ali and Khatib returned to the UK, the plot became operational...

At his home officers found jihadi videos including the recorded last will and testament of one of the 9/11 bombers.

POLICE will be ordered not to charge Muslim extremists in many hate crime cases – to stop them becoming more militant.

Guidelines will tell forces to press for conviction only in cases of clear-cut criminal acts.

Officers will be advised not to proceed when evidence of lawbreaking is “borderline”.

Examples of crimes to which a blind eye may be turned include incitement to religious hatred or viewing extremist material on the internet.

Last night critics warned that the move could mean Islamic radicals being give the freedom to encourage violence.
