French jihadist Gilles Le Guen, suspected of taking part in the attack on the Algerian gas plant in January, was arrested by French forces a few days ago in northern Mali, a French military spokesman reported on Tuesday.

The attack on Algeria's In Amenas gas plant saw 38 hostages and 29 assailants killed over a four-day period.

French Col. Thierry Burkhard said Tuesday that Gilles Le Guen was arrested this week north of Timbuktu, the fabled city which had been his base for some two years.[More..]

“We’re trying to get him handcuffed. There’s two or three police officers handcuffing him in the street — the older brother. At the same time, at the last minute — they obviously have tunnel vision, it’s a very, very stressful situation — one of them yells out, ‘Look out!’ and here comes the black SUV, the carjacked car, directly at them. They dive out of the way, and he (the younger brother) drives over his brother and drags him a short distance down the street.”

The father warned, however, "If they killed him, then all hell would break loose."

Yesterday the State Dept announced Terrorist Designations of Abdelbasit Alhaj Alhassan Haj Hamad and Mohamed Makawi Ibrahim Mohamed

The U.S. Department of State has designated Abdelbasit Alhaj Alhassan Haj Hamad and Mohamed Makawi Ibrahim Mohamed under Executive Order 13224, which targets terrorists and those providing support to terrorists or acts of terrorism. As a result of this designation, all property subject to U.S. jurisdiction in which Abdelbasit and Makawi have any interest is blocked and any assets they may have under U.S. jurisdiction are frozen. U.S. persons are generally prohibited from engaging in transactions with them. This action will help stem the flow of financial and other assistance to these terrorists.

Abdelbasit and Makawi participated in an armed attack in Khartoum, Sudan on January 1, 2008, which resulted in the deaths of a U.S. diplomat serving with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), John Michael Granville, and Adbelrahman Abbas Rahama, a Sudanese USAID employee. Abdelbasit shot Granville and Makawi killed Abbas Rahama during the attack. Both Abdelbasit and Makawi were convicted of murder and sentenced to death in a Sudanese criminal court in 2009. In 2010, they killed a Sudanese police officer and wounded another while escaping from prison. They remain at large.

The attack occurred when Granville and Abbas were leaving a New Year’s Eve party in Khartoum. Abdelbasit shot Granville and Makawi killed Abbas Rahama during the attack. Both men and two co-conspirators were convicted of murder and sentenced to death in a Sudanese criminal court in 2009. In 2010, they killed a Sudanese police officer and wounded another while escaping from a maximum security prison through a tunnel. One of the other escapees was captured; another was reportedly killed in Somalia in May 2011.

A man accused of leading an al-Qaeda plot to set off bombs in Manchester has been extradited to the US.

Abid Naseer has been described by a High Court judge as an "al-Qaeda operative" who "poses a serious threat to the national security of the UK".

UK prosecutors said there was not enough evidence to charge him.

However, the US wants to put him on trial, arguing the Manchester plot was part of a wider conspiracy to also bomb New York.

In December his bid to stop the extradition was thrown out of the European Court of Human Rights, where his lawyers had argued he could be tortured if returned to Pakistan from the US[..]

The removal of Mr Naseer follows three months after Abu Hamza al-Masri[ Hook Hamza...ed], Babar Ahmad[ Azzam.com Webmaster..ed] and three other terrorism suspects were finally extradited to the US after years of legal wrangling.

They will stand trial later this year. If convicted, Mr Naseer faces a possible life sentence in a supermax prison.

A Home Office spokesperson said: "We can confirm that today Abid Naseer was extradited to America where he is accused of terrorism offences. His case is now a matter for the US authorities.".

French police arrested two people on Tuesday in connection with the attacks by extremist gunman Mohamed Merah, whose shooting spree in and around the southern city of Toulouse this year left seven people dead.

One man described by police as a member of the traveller community who converted to Islam was detained on suspicion of having provided aid to Merah in carrying out the March attacks that shocked France.

He was arrested without incident at his home in the town of Albi, about 70 kilometres (45 miles) northeast of Toulouse, where he was to be taken for questioning, police sources said.

His former partner was arrested separately at her home in Toulouse, with police saying she may have been aware of his involvement and failed to inform authorities.

The nature of his alleged involvement was unclear, but investigators have been searching for a suspected "third man" believed to have been with Merah and his brother Abdelkader during the theft of a scooter used in the attacks.

Merah shot a rabbi, three Jewish schoolchildren and three French paratroopers in March before being shot dead in a police siege in Toulouse.[More...

A man, a member of the traveler community, was arrested in a small town between Albi and Castres, where he lives so sedentary. A source close to the case said Le Figaro that this 38 year old man who had converted to Islam for some time. He was close to Mohamed Merah, and perhaps his brother Abdelkader, he had known in the city of Toulouse Izards where they grew up together.

The suspect is already stuck in nine cases including cases of theft, outrage and rebellion, abuse or weakness of drunken driving. It was a priori unknown intelligence. His ex-girlfriend has meanwhile been arrested in Toulouse to determine its possible involvement

Mad Mullah terror plot foiled:

BAKU - Four foreign-trained Islamists were sentenced to up to 14 years in jail in Azerbaijan on Monday for plotting "terrorist attacks" on the eve of this year's Eurovision song contest in Baku, the latest crackdown on militancy in the oil-rich state.

After 70 years of Soviet-rule, most Azeris have a relaxed attitude towards religion, but Azerbaijan, a NATO ally bordering Iran on the Caspian Sea, says it is combating increasing Islamist extremism with ties to Tehran.

A court official who declined to be named told Reuters the four were sentenced to between 12 and 14 years in jail for crimes including treason, plotting terrorist attacks, arms smuggling and having links with Iran's Revolutionary Guards.

Security forces killed the group's alleged leader in an operation in April and the other members of the group were arrested a month before Baku hosted Eurovision in May.

RABAT: Morocco said on Monday it has arrested eight people suspected of plotting attacks against strategic sites, less than a week after the kingdom announced it had dismantled a "terrorist" cell.

The latest arrests targeted a group called Ansar al-Sharia in the Islamic Maghreb, dismantling the cell whose eight members planned to "commit acts of sabotage against strategic sites," said an interior ministry statement.

The cell's targets included "sensitive buildings, security headquarters and tourist sites in several Moroccan cities," it added.

The suspects "were developing contacts with terrorist groups linked to Al-Qaeda," whose North African franchise[AQIM..ed] is active in the Sahel region and in northern Mali, the statement said.[More...]

London (CNN) -- Three men accused of plotting a suicide bombing campaign in Britain went on trial Monday.

If authorities hadn't foiled the plan, the scale of the terrorist attack might have been bigger than the 2005 London bombings that killed more than 50 people, prosecutor Brian Altman said. One of the alleged jihadists described the plot as "another 9/11," he said.

Irfan Naseer, Irfan Khalid and Ashik Ali [pictured above...ed] were arrested in September 2011 in what authorities called a major operation.

Altman told jurors that the men planned to use up to eight bombs inside rucksacks in suicide attacks aimed at causing mass casualties.

In the house where they allegedly researched and experimented with bombs, investigators found an audio recording of slain al Qaeda cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, Altman said.

If they were found guilty of engaging in conduct in preparation of terrorist acts, they would face maximum sentences of life in prison. All three men deny the charges.[More..]

Shajul Islam, 26, appeared in court yesterday charged with his role in the gang which kidnapped and injured British photographer John Cantlie and Dutch journalist Jeroen Oerlemans in July this year[...]

Mozammel Hossain, defending him, said: "This is a bright young man with a very promising future in this country as an NHS doctor.

"He has a first-class degree in biochemistry. He has qualified as a doctor and completed his training.

It is alleged that Islam, with others, unlawfully and injuriously imprisoned John Cantlie and Jeroen Oerlemans against their will, between July 17 and 26. He was remanded in custody and is next due to appear at the Old Bailey on November 2.

It has been alleged that the ringleader of the group, which wants to establish Shariah law in Syria, is also a British resident who is still at large and being hunted by the police and security services.

He is said to head the 40-strong group, which also includes Chechnans and other foreign jihadists.

The intelligence services have previously warned as many as 100 Britons may have travelled to Syria to either join jihadi groups or to fight alongside rebel forces attacking the regime of Bashar al – Assad.

The arrest of Shajul is a very interesting development, to say the least.

The pair planned to detonate up to 30 bombs targeting British, US, Israeli and Saudi Arabian interests, including tourist facilities and commercial and government buildings, investigators believe.[...]

"They were driving around Nairobi, they went past the British High Commission, they went past the [Nairobi Hebrew Congregation] synagogue in town, they went to the Israeli embassy. It is very clear that they were casing these places, that they were up to no good. From what we saw, their intention was clear to plan and execute terrorism attacks."

Sayed Zabiuddin Ansari, the alleged facilitator of the 2008 terrorist attacks in Mumbai, has proven to be a "treasure trove of information" for Indian investigators, according to new reports in the Indian press. Ansari has reportedly revealed that al Qaeda was tasked with training the Mumbai attackers in a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) training camp close to the Pakistan-Iran border.

It is not entirely clear where the camp was located, as Ansari has been unable to pinpoint its location for investigators. But according to at least one article, the LeT camp was inside Afghanistan. LeT terrorists are known to operate in both Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Ansari (a.k.a. Abu Jundal) was captured inside Saudi Arabia and then transferred to Indian custody in June. [See LWJ report, Key Mumbai plotter arrested in Saudi Arabia.]

The Deccan Chronicle reports that Ansari's interrogation reports say he has explained that there is a "great degree of coordination now between Lashkar, Al Qaeda and even the Taliban."

A key suspect in the November 2008 Mumbai attacks, Sayed Zabiuddin Ansari, was arrested in Saudi Arabia earlier this month and then turned over to Indian authorities.

Also known as Abu Jundal and Abu Hamza, Ansari has reportedly made significant admissions implicating members of the Pakistani army and Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency in the planning of the attack. The Mumbai siege was orchestrated by Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), a longtime proxy of Pakistan's military and intelligence establishment.[emphasis mine..ed]

Ansari allegedly directed Ajmal Kasab, the lone gunman to survive the attack, and other terrorists from a control room in Karachi, Pakistan. As an Indian national, Ansari taught the attackers about Mumbai and Indian culture. Ansari was also reportedly involved in the terrorists' training in a camp run inside Kashmir. The training was headed by Zaki-ur Rehman Lakhvi, LeT's military commander.

An Afghan and coalition security force conducted an operation, in Watahpur district, Kunar province, yesterday.

The target of the operation was Khatab Shafiq, a Lashkar-e-Taiba leader. Khatab Shafiq was the LeT’s senior leader in Kunar province. He was responsible for several attacks against Afghan and coalition forces, and provided money, weapons and training to insurgents in the region

Khatab Shafiq also established multiple insurgent training camps in eastern Afghanistan, where insurgents learned how to use mortars, rockets and machine guns. Most recently, he was involved with teaching insurgents how to build and emplace improvised explosive devices.

During the operation, the security force positively identified Khatab Shafiq among an armed group of insurgents. After determining there were no civilians in the area, the security force engaged the insurgents with a precision airstrike away from all civilian structures.

After the strike, the Afghan and coalition security force conducted a follow-on assessment and confirmed Khatab Shafiq, along with multiple other insurgents, had been killed.

Update: One of the four hostages have been released.

Update II: The situation has been resolved and the hostages are safe and the terrorist was only slightly wounded. Some are describing him as a mental case, we're glad to see the press as finally come around to the idea that support of Islamic terrorist groups is a mental disorder.

NYT's:

A former Brooklyn resident pleaded guilty in Federal District Court in Manhattan on Monday to providing material support to Al Qaeda.

The man, Sabirhan Hasanoff, a dual citizen of the United States and Australia, was accused in court documents filed by federal prosecutors of conspiring to provide the group with computer advice and other assistance.

...The charge of providing material support to the group carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison. He also pleaded guilty to conspiring to provide that support, which carries a maximum penalty of five years.

COPENHAGEN, Denmark — Four men who planned a shooting spree at the office of a Danish newspaper that published cartoons of the prophet Muhammed were found guilty of terrorism Monday.

The men, Swedish residents of North African and Mideast origin, were arrested in late December 2010 just hours before authorities say they planned to carry out a violent attack on the Jyllands-Posten’s offices in Copenhagen.

Sentencing is expected later in the day, and the men could face about 16 years in prison.

Munir Awad, Omar Abdalla Aboelazm, Mounir Ben Mohamed Dhahri and Sabhi Ben Mohamed Zalouti had been under surveillance by Swedish and Danish intelligence agencies at the time but denied the charges during the trial. The four gave conflicting explanations about the purpose of their journey, which included New Year celebrations in the Danish capital and travel in Sweden.

Human rights officials accused the Kenyan police Friday of eliminating suspected terrorists after armed men dragged a terror suspect out of a car. He was the third terror suspect to be abducted since April.

Lawyer Mbugua Mureithi said Sylvester Opiyo, also known as Musa Osodo, is the "usual suspect" in terror-related investigations. Opiyo was abducted by armed men Wednesday after the car he was traveling in with five other people broke down in western Kenya, Mureithi said. Police have denied they are holding him.

"When the police begin to say we are not holding that person, that is a very dangerous sign . People are never seen again when police say they don't know where the suspects are," Mureithi said[..]

Police spokesman Eric Kiraithe said Friday the allegation that police are responsible for executions and abductions "is the work of fiction."

The three abductions are not the first time Kenyan police have been accused of extra-judicial actions against security threats. In 2007 the government-funded Kenya National Commission For Human Rights documented the executions and forced disappearances of more than 500 youths associated with a gang known for beheading its victims and running extortion rackets.

Police say Opiyo is one of hundreds of Kenyan youths who are sympathetic to the Somali militant group al-Shabab, which has vowed to attack Kenya in retaliation for its troop deployment.

I fibbed on that last part. I don't like the African Taliban and their sympathizers, especially when they behead people. Missing could mean the African Taliban has them or something or dead. Yeah, dead is good.

A German Islamist is calling for the murder of members of a far-right party that regularly provokes ultra-conservative Muslims using cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed, a newspaper reported.

According to an article due to appear Monday in the Tageszeitung daily, an Islamist from Bonn in western Germany has appeared in a video on an Islamic forum in which he encouraged "the killing of all activists from the Pro NRW party".

Members of the small extreme-right political party held a campaign event using anti-Islamic caricatures ahead of an election in Germany's most populous state North Rhine-Westphalia on May 13.

In his appeal, the Islamist urged the collection of personal information on Pro NRW members, including their home addresses and work schedules, with the goal of attacking them.

All of them[Agus Suprianto,Rizki Gunawan, Andri Kurniawan &Dedy Irawan..ed] have been named suspects in terror cases, including the Sept. 2011 suicide bombing of the Kepunton Church in Solo, Central Java.

Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Boy Rafli Amar said the suspected hackers used the money they stole to fund terrorism.

The Rp 225 million ($24,300) they siphoned off was used to buy firearms and pay for paramilitary training in Poso, Central Sulawesi, and Malino, South Sulawesi, as well as for the Solo bombing.

The suspects, residents of Britain’s second-largest city, Birmingham, were arrested Thursday night as they arrived from Oman. The police did not release their names.

A quick search through my jihadi forum archives for occurrences of one of his aliases, Sami123, returned over 1,500 records. Looking through those, precious few are of any significance. For the most part what you see are posts like this:[see at link...ed]

In fact, *almost* every one of Sami123's posts, be they on Ekhlaas, Faloja, or Shumukh, are nothing more than a copy and paste of the text you see in the image above.

If we assume for a moment that he actually played an important role in al-Qaida's online operations, his involvement in the password-protected assassination workshop[1] at the Shumukh forum was not very smart - especially if that was the event that triggered the investigation:

Despite some claims that Mohammed Merah was "polite, gentle, and courteous" (scroll down to 12:35), a neighbor has come forward saying Merah threatened her and her family.

In one incident, Merah gave her 15-year-old son a quran and then forced him to watch beheading videos. She filed a complaint with police, who did nothing:

The mother filed a complaint with the police, which according to her caused Merah to become upset. “He came to the front of our home, threatened me and hit me. He said that I was an atheist and that I must pay like all the rest of France’s citizens,” she said.

She further stated that Merah claimed he would “wipe out all those who kill Muslims.” She stated that two days after the incident, Merah struck her son and daughter in the presence of eyewitnesses. However, no one intervened. The mother still has a copy of the complaint that was filed, as well as her daughter’s medical documents.

The woman also stated that the “true mind” behind the suspect was his brother Abdelkader, who is currently in police custody. “It is he who brainwashed [Merah] and often flew out of France,” she said.

Abdelkader is ion a path to become a great Islamic leader or Imam. That is, he appears to be good at motivating others to commit violence but he himself keeps his hands clean. In other words, a coward.

It reminds me of their prophet, Muhammad. He would preach the glory of martyrdom, but he made certain he was never in a position to be martyred himself. Not only did he distance himself from the battlefield, but he took extra precautions to ensure his own safety, such as wearing two coats of mail, surrounding himself with bodyguards willing to die for him, and retreating to nearby mountains when the fighting became too intense.

The great example for Muslims to follow.

Government Security News:

The Internet and social media are integral ingredients in the rapid radicalization of homegrown terrorists, said a staff study by the Senate homeland security committee that recommended a coordinated government response to counter online radical propaganda and help communities intervene in the radicalization process.

The report, released on Feb. 27 by the staff of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, was based on the close study of the personal writings of Zachary Chesser, the Bristow, VA man now serving a 25-year sentence for threatening the writers of the South Park television show, soliciting violent jihadists to desensitize law enforcement, and attempting to provide material support to Al-Shabaab.

The study also provides some unique detail into Chesser’s motivations and personality.

The Senate staff said Chesser’s case was a classic case study of how quickly online radicalization can occur compared to the traditional process of face to face contact between an aspirant and an established terrorist group.

Jawa report was not mentioned in the study, we were basically robbed. But we're getting really used to that ;)

(JTA) -- Suspected terrorists with links to Iran and Hezbollah were arrested in Azerbaijan, while bombs intended for use against Israeli targets in Thailand's capital were discovered hidden in inexpensive portable radios.

The suspects in Azerbaijan are accused of planning terrorist attacks against foreigners in Baku, the Azerbaijan capital, the National Security Ministry said in an announcement Tuesday on Azerbaijan state television. According to reports, the suspects had gathered intelligence on identified targets and bought weapons and explosives.

Last month, at least two men were arrested after planning an attack on two Israeli teachers, Chabad emissaries at the Or Avner school in Baku.

BANGKOK – The three Iranian men detained for allegedly plotting bomb attacks in Bangkok on Israeli diplomats had more than terror on their minds in Thailand. Police said Friday that they had also cavorted with prostitutes at a beach resort.[The prostitutes remembered them because they had never seen such small penises..ed]

The news comes as Thai authorities announced they were searching for two more suspects in the botched bomb plot, including a possible explosives specialist who may have been training the Iranians.

The foiled plan was discovered Tuesday when explosives in the men's rented house blew up by mistake, forcing them to flee. Two were detained in the Thai capital, and a third was captured Wednesday in neighboring Malaysia as he reportedly tried to return to Iran.

Jesse Morton, a convert to Islam also known as Younus Abdullah Mohammad, plans to appear in federal court in Alexandria, Va., on Thursday, his lawyer told Politico. He will plead guilty to conspiracy, communicating threats, and internet stalking, Politico reported. Each felony carries a sentence of up to five years in prison.

How bad is the phenomenon of American citizens supporting terror groups? Bad enough that while reporting on a Somali-American pleading guilty in a terror funding case yesterday, I overlooked the fact that a Chicago man also plead guilty yesterday of providing material support to al Qaeda.

That's one day, two guilty pleas:

A Pakistani-born Chicago taxi driver has pleaded guilty to attempting to provide material support to al-Qaida as part of a plea deal hammered out recently with prosecutors.

Dressed in an orange jumpsuit and his ankles shackled, Raja Lahrasib Khan told a judge Monday that he was pleading guilty to one of two counts of attempting to provide material support....

Khan was accused in 2010 of taking steps to send cash to Pakistan-based terrorist leader Ilyas Kashmiri.

A member of the newly elected Egyptian parliament has called for al Qaeda's emir to return to the country "with his head held high and safely."

Aboud al Zomor, who served as the first emir of the Egyptian Islamic Jihad and was later imprisoned for his role in President Anwar Sadat's assassination, said that he welcomes Ayman al Zawahiri's return to Egypt and that he would be given safe haven, according to a report published yesterday in Al-Sharq Al-Awsat. The report was translated from Arabic by the Foundation For Defense of Democracies.

"When asked if he saw any danger in al Zawahiri's return, al Zomor said that 'he was not a threat to Egypt, the likes of al Zawahiri differed with the previous regime and they were only a danger for this regime and not for Egypt, and now he is liberating Afghanistan and Iraq...'" the report stated. Zomor also lamented that the US would be opposed to Zawahiri's return to Egypt.

Zomor denied having direct contact with members of al Qaeda, and claims to have renounced violence.

"I've distanced myself from that currently because I took the political line and closed the page on the past, as a result of which doors to peaceful action opened for us," he told Al-Sharq Al-Awsat.

Zomor is one of the primary founders of the Egyptian Islamic Jihad, the terrorist group that merged with al Qaeda. Zawahiri succeeded Zomor as the group's emir and presided over its merger with bin Laden's terror group in the 1990s.

An unemployed teenager charged Tuesday with firebombing two synagogues is an anti-Semite whose hatred of Jews guided his actions, authorities said.

I find this rather ironic. While the AP (painfully) admits that this douche hates Jews, they throw in the words "unemployed teenager" in what is obviously an attempt to milk sympathy for the douchebag.

Really? 19 is a teenager? And being unemployed is an excuse to firebomb synagogues? I was unemployed at 19, and the only thing I firebombed was a flaming shot of Bacardi 151 (thank God I didn't have the nose hair then that I do now).

Oh, and did I mention *he's a Ron Paul supporter? Now that's just crazy, given Ron Paul's staunch support of Israel.

(Bangkok, Thailand) A 47-year-old Lebanese-Swedish man, Atris Hussein (aka Hussein Atris), was arrested last Friday on suspicion of planning terrorist acts.

More than 200 police raided a three-storey commercial building in Mahachai area after Atris Hussein, a Lebanese man carrying a Swedish passport who has suspected links to the Hezbollah militant group was arrested at Suvarnabhumi airport on Friday evening.

He confessed that explosive ingredients were hidden there, Pol Gen Priewpan said.

He said 4,380 kilogrammes of urea based fertiliser, 260 litres of ammonium nitrate and 400 electric fans were found on the second floor of the building.

British police say 22 people have been arrested outside of the US embassy in London during a protest over the use of military drones in Pakistan.

Scotland Yard confirmed the arrests on Friday at the demonstration organised by a group calling itself United Ummah.

The demonstration was advertised as a gathering that would include Friday prayers outside of the US embassy to draw attention to "the murder of Muslims with drones".

We've been waiting a very long time for this. We have so much on this dude that I'm not sure where to start except to note that we've been following Jose Pimentel for some time and he's one of those hip-hop wannabe type Jihadis.

News is starting to leak about the arrest this weekend of a New York City man who planned to bomb police and military facilities. The NY Post reports:

The NYPD and Manhattan DA’s office have arrested a terror suspect who was planning to bomb city police facilities and US military sites, where he plotted to target returning war personnel and the families who gathered to welcome them home, The Post has learned.

The suspect, who lives in Manhattan, was arrested after he actually purchased bomb-making materials, sources said. He’d been on the authorities’ radar for about a year, the sources said.

It wasn’t immediately clear exactly where he planned to attack.

We can report here exclusively at PJM that the man arrested is Jose Pimentel of Harlem. On his Facebook page he describes himself as:

I am a Muslim convert from the Dominican Republic looking for other muslims living in the US specially in New York City to share a brotherhood with and to help each other stay firm on the religion. Also looking for anyone that wishes to learn more about Islam and other religions.

OSLO, Norway — The accused ringleader of a terror plot in Norway has rejected charges that he conspired with al-Qaida to attack a Danish newspaper, saying he was planning a solo raid against the Chinese Embassy in Oslo.

...Davud, who came to Norway in 1999 and became a citizen eight years later, said he traveled to Iran in January 2009 and had contact with al-Qaida there about receiving training. He said he rejected that option because he didn’t want to work under al-Qaida’s leadership, and instead sought explosives training from a “private group” that he refused to identify.

BBC:

Home Secretary Theresa May is banning Muslims Against Crusades, a group planning an anti-Armistice Day protest.

The organisation had planned to repeat a demonstration seen last year, when members burned poppies near to London's Albert Hall.

Mrs May's order, which comes into force at midnight, makes membership or support of the group a criminal offence.

The organisation is closely linked to a host of other previously-banned groups.

...Muslims Against Crusades is the latest incarnation of the organisation originally set up by extremist preacher Omar Bakri Mohammed, who fled the UK six years ago.

...Its previous incarnations, Al Ghurabaa, The Saved Sect, Al Muhajiroun and Islam4UK are all proscribed groups.

Anjem Choudary, the leading public figure in the organisation, accused the government of attempting to cover up the truth.

Recent posts there included one by Abu Izzadeen asking of the assassination of President Barrack Obama was legal. Izzadeen, born Trevor Brooks, has since been arrested for violating the conditions of his early release from prison. He was serving time for supporting terrorism.
