Jesse Morton, a convert to Islam also known as Younus Abdullah Mohammad, plans to appear in federal court in Alexandria, Va., on Thursday, his lawyer told Politico. He will plead guilty to conspiracy, communicating threats, and internet stalking, Politico reported. Each felony carries a sentence of up to five years in prison.

How bad is the phenomenon of American citizens supporting terror groups? Bad enough that while reporting on a Somali-American pleading guilty in a terror funding case yesterday, I overlooked the fact that a Chicago man also plead guilty yesterday of providing material support to al Qaeda.

That's one day, two guilty pleas:

A Pakistani-born Chicago taxi driver has pleaded guilty to attempting to provide material support to al-Qaida as part of a plea deal hammered out recently with prosecutors.

Dressed in an orange jumpsuit and his ankles shackled, Raja Lahrasib Khan told a judge Monday that he was pleading guilty to one of two counts of attempting to provide material support....

Khan was accused in 2010 of taking steps to send cash to Pakistan-based terrorist leader Ilyas Kashmiri.

A member of the newly elected Egyptian parliament has called for al Qaeda's emir to return to the country "with his head held high and safely."

Aboud al Zomor, who served as the first emir of the Egyptian Islamic Jihad and was later imprisoned for his role in President Anwar Sadat's assassination, said that he welcomes Ayman al Zawahiri's return to Egypt and that he would be given safe haven, according to a report published yesterday in Al-Sharq Al-Awsat. The report was translated from Arabic by the Foundation For Defense of Democracies.

"When asked if he saw any danger in al Zawahiri's return, al Zomor said that 'he was not a threat to Egypt, the likes of al Zawahiri differed with the previous regime and they were only a danger for this regime and not for Egypt, and now he is liberating Afghanistan and Iraq...'" the report stated. Zomor also lamented that the US would be opposed to Zawahiri's return to Egypt.

Zomor denied having direct contact with members of al Qaeda, and claims to have renounced violence.

"I've distanced myself from that currently because I took the political line and closed the page on the past, as a result of which doors to peaceful action opened for us," he told Al-Sharq Al-Awsat.

Zomor is one of the primary founders of the Egyptian Islamic Jihad, the terrorist group that merged with al Qaeda. Zawahiri succeeded Zomor as the group's emir and presided over its merger with bin Laden's terror group in the 1990s.

An unemployed teenager charged Tuesday with firebombing two synagogues is an anti-Semite whose hatred of Jews guided his actions, authorities said.

I find this rather ironic. While the AP (painfully) admits that this douche hates Jews, they throw in the words "unemployed teenager" in what is obviously an attempt to milk sympathy for the douchebag.

Really? 19 is a teenager? And being unemployed is an excuse to firebomb synagogues? I was unemployed at 19, and the only thing I firebombed was a flaming shot of Bacardi 151 (thank God I didn't have the nose hair then that I do now).

Oh, and did I mention *he's a Ron Paul supporter? Now that's just crazy, given Ron Paul's staunch support of Israel.

(Bangkok, Thailand) A 47-year-old Lebanese-Swedish man, Atris Hussein (aka Hussein Atris), was arrested last Friday on suspicion of planning terrorist acts.

More than 200 police raided a three-storey commercial building in Mahachai area after Atris Hussein, a Lebanese man carrying a Swedish passport who has suspected links to the Hezbollah militant group was arrested at Suvarnabhumi airport on Friday evening.

He confessed that explosive ingredients were hidden there, Pol Gen Priewpan said.

He said 4,380 kilogrammes of urea based fertiliser, 260 litres of ammonium nitrate and 400 electric fans were found on the second floor of the building.

British police say 22 people have been arrested outside of the US embassy in London during a protest over the use of military drones in Pakistan.

Scotland Yard confirmed the arrests on Friday at the demonstration organised by a group calling itself United Ummah.

The demonstration was advertised as a gathering that would include Friday prayers outside of the US embassy to draw attention to "the murder of Muslims with drones".

News is starting to leak about the arrest this weekend of a New York City man who planned to bomb police and military facilities. The NY Post reports:

The NYPD and Manhattan DA’s office have arrested a terror suspect who was planning to bomb city police facilities and US military sites, where he plotted to target returning war personnel and the families who gathered to welcome them home, The Post has learned.

The suspect, who lives in Manhattan, was arrested after he actually purchased bomb-making materials, sources said. He’d been on the authorities’ radar for about a year, the sources said.

It wasn’t immediately clear exactly where he planned to attack.

We can report here exclusively at PJM that the man arrested is Jose Pimentel of Harlem. On his Facebook page he describes himself as:

OSLO, Norway — The accused ringleader of a terror plot in Norway has rejected charges that he conspired with al-Qaida to attack a Danish newspaper, saying he was planning a solo raid against the Chinese Embassy in Oslo.

...Davud, who came to Norway in 1999 and became a citizen eight years later, said he traveled to Iran in January 2009 and had contact with al-Qaida there about receiving training. He said he rejected that option because he didn’t want to work under al-Qaida’s leadership, and instead sought explosives training from a “private group” that he refused to identify.

Home Secretary Theresa May is banning Muslims Against Crusades, a group planning an anti-Armistice Day protest.

The organisation had planned to repeat a demonstration seen last year, when members burned poppies near to London's Albert Hall.

Mrs May's order, which comes into force at midnight, makes membership or support of the group a criminal offence.

The organisation is closely linked to a host of other previously-banned groups.

...Muslims Against Crusades is the latest incarnation of the organisation originally set up by extremist preacher Omar Bakri Mohammed, who fled the UK six years ago.

...Its previous incarnations, Al Ghurabaa, The Saved Sect, Al Muhajiroun and Islam4UK are all proscribed groups.

Anjem Choudary, the leading public figure in the organisation, accused the government of attempting to cover up the truth.

Recent posts there included one by Abu Izzadeen asking of the assassination of President Barrack Obama was legal. Izzadeen, born Trevor Brooks, has since been arrested for violating the conditions of his early release from prison. He was serving time for supporting terrorism.

A Somali man and woman arrested in Finland on suspicion of financing terrorism and terror recruitment are linked to the Somali insurgent group al-Shabab, police said Tuesday[...]

The 34-year-old man is also suspected of recruiting at least one person abroad to commit an act of terrorism "in the direction of Somalia," linked to al-Shabab, the agency said. He has lived in Finland since 2005, has a residency permit and has had several jobs.

The 28-year-old woman is a student who arrived in Finland in late 2008, police said.

Madrid, Spain (CNN) -- Civil Guards arrested five Algerian men early Tuesday in northern Spain on suspicion of providing logistical and financial support for Islamic terrorist activities, Spain's interior ministry said.

The suspects, aged 36 to 49, allegedly supported "terrorist groups that operate in the Algerian area of the Maghreb, specifically for al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb,"[AQIM flag above R..ed] a ministry statement said.

They also had suspected links to Islamic militants in Italy, France and Switzerland

Spanish authorities have said repeatedly in the past few years that the group known as al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb is of key concern, because of its operational base in northern Africa, just across the Mediterranean Sea from Spain and southern Europe.

Last week, Civil Guards arrested a *Cuban man on Spain's Mallorca Island in the Mediterranean for allegedly recruiting and indoctrinating others for Islamic terrorist activities.

“We are targeting two of al-Qa’ida’s top strategists and commanders in Pakistan, as well as a senior facilitator, striking at the heart of al-Qa’ida’s remaining leadership and its operations in Pakistan,” said Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence David S. Cohen.

As a result of today’s action – taken pursuant to Executive Order (E.O.) 13224 – U.S. persons are generally prohibited from engaging in transactions with today's designees and any assets they may hold under U.S. jurisdiction are frozen.

Abu Yahya al-Libi (al-Libi)
Al-Libi is a senior al-Qa’ida leader and commander in Pakistan responsible for the supervision of other senior al-Qa’ida officials. Referred to as al-Qa’ida’s propaganda chief, al-Libi is one of the group’s most prominent public figures and plays a key role in al-Qa’ida’s media operations. As of April 2010, al-Libi had released sixty-eight messages on behalf of al-Qa’ida, and was second in public visibility only to Ayman al-Zawahiri. As an authoritative voice for al-Qa’ida, al-Libi has urged Pakistanis to attack their government.

Al-Libi was also deputy to now-deceased al-Qa’ida senior leader Atiyah ‘Abd al-Rahman, who was killed in an explosion last month. As of 2010, al-Libi commanded a group of al-Qa’ida fighters and provided financial assistance to al-Qa’ida fighters in Afghanistan. Al-Libi was also a field commander in Afghanistan and an instructor at an al-Qa’ida training camp.

‘Abd al-Rahman Ould Muhammad al-Husayn Ould Muhammad Salim (Salim)
Salim, also known as Younis al-Mauritani, is a Pakistan-based senior al-Qa’ida leader who was in charge of al-Qa’ida’s external operations as of mid-2010. He participated in the formation of the al-Qa’ida affiliate organization al-Qa’ida in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM). As of late 2010, Usama bin Laden devoted most of al-Qaida’s funds to a plan developed by Salim to ostensibly damage the economy of Europe. As of mid-2010, Salim was in Pakistan to speak to individuals regarding their participation in al-Qa'ida operations in Europe.

Salim joined the Salafist Group for Call and Combat (GSPC) in 2001. He had served as a communications link between the GSPC and al-Qa’ida and was sent by GSPC leaders to Pakistan to forge the 2007 merger with al-Qa’ida that formed AQIM.

As of late 2009, Salim provided weapons and explosives training to GSPC members in Mali, including the use of AK-47 assault rifles and rocket-propelled grenades. In 2006, Salim provided basic weapons training on the AK-47 assault rifle to GSPC members. Salim has fought for the GSPC in Mauritania, and has been wanted in Mauritania since late 2009 for planning a 2005 GSPC attack against the Mauritanian military and for forging the merger between the GSPC and al-Qa’ida.

The Pakistani military reported on Monday that Salim was arrested near Quetta, Pakistan.

Mustafa Hajji Muhammad Khan (Khan)
Khan has acted as an al-Qa’ida facilitator, courier and operative since at least 2003. As of 2010, Khan facilitated activities for senior Pakistan-based al-Qa’ida operatives. Khan has also been active in facilitating the travel of al-Qa’ida members, including escorting an individual to meet with another al-Qa’ida member in 2009. On al-Qa’ida’s behalf, Khan recruited a facilitator who helped him move people and money between Gulf countries and Pakistan. In 2007, Khan helped al-Qa’ida reestablish logistic support networks in Pakistan.

Khan once served as a messenger between al-Qa’ida and former al-Qa’ida in Iraq leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. In 2003, he accepted a senior al-Qa’ida leader’s request to serve as an al-Qa’ida representative to al-Zarqawi and deliver a message to al-Zarqawi in Iraq. Khan attempted to deliver a letter from al-Zarqawi to Usama bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawahiri, but was captured with the letter, which never reached bin Laden or al-Zawahiri.

The Secretary of State has designated Haqqani Network (HQN) Commander Sangeen Zadran under Executive Order 13224, which targets terrorists and those providing support to terrorists or acts of terrorism. As a result of the designation, all property subject to U.S. jurisdiction in which Sangeen has any interest is blocked and U.S. persons are prohibited from engaging in any transactions with him. Sangeen was also listed by the United Nations (UN) 1988 Sanctions Committee. These actions will help stem the flow of financial and other assistance to this dangerous individual.

Sangeen Zadran is the Shadow Governor for Paktika Province, Afghanistan and a commander of the Haqqani Network, a Taliban-affiliated group of militants that operates from North Waziristan Agency in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. The Haqqani Network has been at the forefront of insurgent activity in Afghanistan, responsible for many high-profile attacks.

Boy fighters of al-Shabaab

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) — The former al-Shabab foot soldiers assigned to a drab cement housing bloc are young — too young. One is only 9, yet they were enforcers of harsh edicts from Islamist militants who are preventing thousands of Somalis from escaping famine[...]

The two dozen young men, mostly teens, said there were killers among them, though no one dared specify who. One bearded fighter in his 20s suggested that he had carried out beheadings.

What is striking about the former al-Shabab members is how young they are. The youngest at the center is Liban Mohammed, a shy boy of 9. Al-Shabab used him as a spy[...]

There are more than 160 former al-Shabab fighters in the government rehabilitation program. Many here say they hope to get an education, though some, knowing little but war during their young lives, profess that they want to join Somalia's military and fight back against al-Shabab.

Hassan said he had fought alongside Arab militants and fighters from Kenya, and that he had seen Omar Hammami, an American al-Shabab leader known as Abu Mansur al-Amriki. Hassan and many of the other teens said al-Shabab treats their youngest soldiers very poorly.

Tarek Mehanna, the Sudbury resident accused in a 2010 indictment of conspiring to kill American troops in Iraq, will ask a judge today to dismiss some of the charges accusing him of providing support to al Qaeda, the Associated Press is reporting in the Sacramento Bee.

The report says Mehanna's lawyers will argue today at Moakley Federal Courthouse in Boston that most of his activities are protected by the First Amendment in relation to free speech.

We are in a time of war you know. The enemy's propaganda network is a fair and crucial target. No war is ever fought, won or lost without propaganda.

Mehanna's claim of free speech or informational purposes is laughable when you consider the context. See our post here on Mehanna's multiple and long standing connections to multiple convicted terrorists and terrorist propagandists.

Like clockwork, Mehanna's family defends him as a nice boy who just completed his graduate work to become a pharmacist. What his family may or may not know is that Mehanna goes by the online handle "Abu Sayaba" and runs the "Iskandari" website which is devoted to promoting the Salafi ideology.

For instance, Tarek "Abu Sayaba" Mehanna has, literally, dozens of posts recounting the words of Abdullah Azzam, the intellectual backbone of al Qaeda. Also among his favorite authors are Sayyid Qutb.

In addition to friends like Maldanado who has been convicted on terrorism related charges, Mehanna's online buddies include:

Shades of Swords, who glorifies the executed Bali bombers as martyrs.
Inshallahshaheed, who we have an entire category devoted to and who claims he personally doesn't go off to fight the jihad because "it's hard" and who recently has set up his own media division in support of terrorist organizations.
Jihad Fields Are Calling, who's name pretty much sums it up.

And so on and so forth. In other words, the people he associated himself with online are either a) actively engaged in violent jihad; or b) actively engaged in supporting violent jihad through the distribution of terrorist propaganda.

His chances of having this dismissed runs about the same as former Revolution Muslim Emir Zack Chesser who plead guilty to Material Support for similar dissemination and advocacy for al-Qaeda.

I put them at zero/zilch/nada unless his lawyer feels he's gotten a sympathetic liberal judge. Its clear he agreed with al-Qaeda, tried to join the Jihad and wrote many times in support of al-Qaeda and its war against the United States.

DETROIT (AP) - A Lebanese-born Canadian man on the FBI's most wanted list of terror suspects is accused of using a fake passport in an attempt to enter Israel and conduct a bombing on behalf of the Islamic militant group Hezbollah, according to an indictment unsealed in U.S. federal court in Detroit.

Faouzi Ayoub, 44, faces one count of passport fraud, according to the August 2009 indictment that was only unsealed in U.S. District Court in Detroit within the past week.

Federal prosecutors accuse Ayoub, whose last known U.S. residence was in southeast Michigan, of using a passport under the name of Frank Mariano Boschi to enter Israel in October 2000. The indictment does not indicate whether authorities believe Ayoub participated in any bombing[...]

The FBI's office in Detroit could not discuss the case Wednesday, say where Ayoub was believed to be now or explain why the indictment was unsealed, spokeswoman Sandra Berchtold said.

But she noted that he should be considered armed and dangerous and that anyone with information about him should contact their local FBI office, or nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.[More]

The IDF and Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) have arrested close to two dozen Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) operatives who were running a number of terror cells near Jerusalem and were planning to kidnap soldiers and perpetrate other terror attacks against Israel, it was released for publication on Sunday.

Some of the operatives, the Shin Bet said, were Arabs from east Jerusalem in possession of Israeli identity cards enabling them to travel freely throughout the country.[More]

Hasna Ali Yahya, wife of dead al-Qaeda in Iraq leader Abu Ayyub al-Masri sentenced to 20 years

An Iraqi court has sentenced the wife of a slain al-Qaeda leader to 20 years in prison on terrorism-related charges, an Iraqi judicial spokesman said on Sunday.

Hasna Ali Yahya, the Yemeni wife of Abu Ayyub al-Masri, was convicted last Thursday, according to Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council spokesman Abdul-Sattar Bayrkdar. Bayrkdar didn’t give details on the charges, but a government official said she was convicted of facilitating correspondence between insurgents and preparing explosive-laden belts.

(Miami Herald) — When a fiddle player and her band toured the prison camps at Guantánamo recently, guards told of a new devious and disturbing tactic confronting them.

A captive on a hunger strike had been jamming something foul up his nose to contaminate the pathway for medical staff who feed him a nutritional shake twice a day. . . . The captive was jamming his own excrement up his nose. On the topic of bodily waste abuse, prison camp management “will not speculate on the motivations for this behavior,” said Navy Cmdr Tamsen Reese, who confirmed the account of country artist Natalie Stovall.

The guards see it as a tactic meant to demean those tasked with keeping the captive alive, wrote Stovall in a blog post. “It means the medic putting the tube up his nose and down his throat must clean out the feces first.’’ But Stovall wondered whether the prisoner was debasing himself as well.

Ozarks First: CBS News - A suspicious item found inside a vehicle near the Pentagon has been "disrupted" and "rendered safe," a law enforcement official has told CBS News.

The U.S. Park Police have in custody a man believed to be connected to the item, according to Park Police spokesman Sgt. David Schlosser.

The incident began when a man -- believed to be a naturalized US citizen who came to the US from Ethiopia -- was found in the nearby Arlington National Cemetery overnight Thursday. The man was arrested at the scene.

Also its being reports that a notebook and suspicious devices were located in various places, although not in the car itself at this point.

Authorities reportedly found al Qaeda-related statements, a backpack initially believed to contain ammonium nitrate, and spent 9mm shells at the scene, ABC's "Good Morning America" reported.

A notebook containing words including "al Qaeda" and Taliban" was found at the scene, FOX News Channel reported.

CBS News reported that the arrested man was suspected of planting several suspicious devices around the Pentagon, the Arlington National Cemetery and the Iwo Jima Memorial.

US Park Police Sergeant David Schlosser said at a news conference early Friday law enforcement authorities were conducting sweeps of the Pentagon, the cemetery and the memorial.

"We're pretty early in this right now so were going to be doing sweeps. We're coordinating our efforts to make sure that the entire area is safe," Schlosser said.

DEVELOPING: The man in custody for carrying a backpack with "suspicious items and products" inside Arlington National Cemetery overnight is a U.S. Marine Corps reservist, military and law enforcement sources tell Fox News.

Yonathan Melaku, a Lance Corporal Marine corps reservist who lives in Virginia and who is Muslim, has been identified as the suspect in custody, Fox News has learned.

Sources close to the investigation also said a notebook believed to belong to the man was found containing threatening phrases like "Al Qaeda," "Taliban rule" and "defeated coalition forces."[More]

I'm not sure what to make of this guy yet. Given that he was arrested in a string of car vandalisms, what does that say about his intentions? I'm not sure.

Especially now that "nothing suspicious" (h/t: Doug Powers) was found in the car and that whatever was in his backpack was "inert". Dry run? Playing jihadi at night by himself in a cemetery? An al Qaeda super-spooky seance? I really don't know.

LOUISVILLE — Two Iraqi refugees living in Bowling Green were arraigned today on federal terrorism charges - including accusations of attempting to kill U.S. troops with explosive devices in Iraq.

Waad Ramadan Alwan, 30, and Mohanad Shareef Hammadi, 23, are charged in a 23-count indictment returned by a federal grand jury in Bowling Green on May 26. The men made their initial federal court appearance today in Louisville.

Alwan is accused of conspiring to kill U.S. nationals overseas, conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction against U.S. nationals overseas, distributing information on how to manufacture and use improvised explosive devices, attempting to provide material support to terrorists and to al-Qaida in Iraq and conspiring to transfer, possess and export Stinger missiles.

Hammadi is charged with attempting to provide material support to terrorists and to al-Qaida in Iraq, as well as conspiracy to transfer, possess and export Stinger missiles.

The men were arrested Wednesday in Bowling Green. The FBI set up a mobile command center behind the Bowling Green Police Department headquarters last week, where FBI agents in camouflage, body armor and suits could be seen moving between the mobile command center and the BGPD.

In September 2009, the FBI began investigating Alwan, according to a news release from the Department of Justice. The FBI later began using a confidential source to meet with and record conversations with Alwan in August and with Hammadi in January. In meetings with the confidential source, Alwan allegedly discussed his previous activities as an insurgent in Iraq from 2003 until his capture by Iraqi authorities in May 2006 - including apparent use of IEDs and sniper rifles to target U.S. forces, according to the release.[More including links to PDF's related to case]

(CNN) -- Younus Mohammad, a New York native and Muslim convert charged with threatening the creators of the TV show "South Park," has been arrested in Morocco, according to the website he co-founded.

"Early on Friday morning brother Younus was arrested by Moroccan authorities," Islampolicy.com said in a posting Sunday. He is being held and awaiting extradition to the United States, the website says.

A criminal complaint against him, alleging the communication of threats, was filed in Virginia earlier this month using his English name, Jesse Curtis Morton.

Morton insists prosecutors misread a document intended to promote dialogue.
He once told CNN that Muslims are commanded by Allah to terrorize, though he said he did not read that as a call for killing civilians. He also professed his love for al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

"His arrest comes in the long line of Muslims who have been imprisoned for speaking out against the United States," Islampolicy.com said. "It is part and parcel of the U.S. war on Islam. It is a war, being waged on two interlink (sic) fronts."

The English-language website, a successor to Revolutionmuslim.com, propagates pro-al Qaeda views.

A senior law enforcement source had told CNN Morton was believed to be in Morocco.

A former resident of Brooklyn, Morton is the second person charged in the "South Park" case.

INTERPOL Press Release

LYON, France - An international security alert, or Orange Notice, has been issued by INTERPOL at the request of its National Central Bureau (NCB) in Kabul for 417 dangerous prisoners, including members of the Taliban, who escaped from an Afghan prison last month.

During the night of 24 April, the Taliban broke out the prisoners from the Sarposa prison in Kandahar through a tunnel constructed from outside the prison perimeter fence into the prison interior. INTERPOL said the jailbreak constituted a major threat to global security.

Following the escape, information on the fugitive prisoners was provided through an already existing programme between INTERPOL's General Secretariat headquarters in Lyon and its National Central Bureau in Washington which provides for information-sharing on terrorism-related issues.[More]

A Somali couple have been arrested in a federal terrorism investigation in San Antonio in which the pair are alleged to have lied to FBI agents and an immigration court.

Abdullah Omar Fidse, 22, already was in custody in Texas, and his wife, Deka Abdalla Sheikh, who's in her 20s, was taken into custody Thursday in Wisconsin.

A federal grand jury in San Antonio indicted the pair Wednesday on charges of conspiring to obstruct a proceeding before a federal department or agency, and conspiracy to make false statements to the executive branch during a terrorism investigation.[More]

Calling it "the most discouraging memorandum" he'd ever penned as a lawyer, a defense attorney for a woman accused of aiding terrorists asked a federal judge Thursday to stop the government from using the electronic surveillance it gathered against his client.

Defense attorney Daniel Scott contends that much of the evidence against Amina Farah Ali was gathered through the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, or FISA, and that government agents had no reason to use a law aimed at gathering foreign intelligence to eavesdrop on the Minnesota woman[...]<

Scott also raised the specter of whether the Somalis were being selectively prosecuted; it is the second time this month that a defense attorney has raised the issue.

"One questions whether there would be criticism of an equivalent expenditure of scarce investigative resources to go after an Irish bar that was raising an equivalent amount for the IRA," Scott wrote.

Earlier this month, the attorney representing another Somali immigrant charged with aiding al-Shabaab argued that his client was being selectively prosecuted because the government never goes after Israeli-Americans who enlist to fight for the Israeli Defense Forces.[emphasis mine..ed]

In a reply to that, federal prosecutors said the comparison was flawed because Americans who enlist in the IDF are fighting for a government, while the men who traveled to Somalia were fighting against a government.

MI5 was investigating four Muslim men who savagely beat a Religious Education teacher, it can be disclosed after they were jailed for at least 19 years.

The Security Service had placed a listening device in a car driven by one of the men as part of an investigation into a suspected terrorist network in East London, sources told the Daily Telegraph.

When transcribers went back over a conversation the men had held in the car, they were picked up discussing killing Gary Smith and praising Allah as they drove from the scene after attacking him.

Akmol Hussein, 27, Sheikh Rashid, 27, Azad Hussain, 26, and Simon Alam, 19, all admitted causing grievous bodily harm with intent after ambushing Mr Smith outside his school.

Akmol Hussein was heard setting out the plan to attack Mr Smith, head of religious education at Central Foundation Girls' School in Bow, east London, saying in a Bangladeshi dialect: 'This is the dog we want to hit, to strike, to kill.’

'He's mocking Islam and he’s putting doubts in people's minds...How can somebody take a job to teach Islam when they’re not even a Muslim themselves?' he added.

Mr Smith, 37, had been head of religious studies at the school for eight years and was described as an able, enthusiastic and popular teacher.

He followed the national curriculum by teaching his pupils all six of the main religions along with ethical issues such as abortion and euthanasia and the role of women.

After the attack, the teacher was left with a four inch slash across his face from the corner of his mouth to his right ear and suffered a fractured skull and shattered jaw.

Federal authorities are using words uttered by the co-founder of a radical Islamic group to charge him with threats against the creators of "South Park."

A criminal complaint alleging the communication of threats was filed in Virginia late last week against Jesse Curtis Morton, also known as Younus Abdullah Mohammad.

A senior law enforcement source Thursday told CNN, which interviewed Morton in 2009, that the suspect is believed to be in Morocco, where he maintains Islampolicy.com, an English-language website propagating pro al Qaeda views.

That website is a successor to Revolutionmuslim.com.

Investigative Project:

A second man has been charged in connection with threats made last year against the producers of the Comedy Central program "South Park."

Jesse Curtis Morton, (aka Younus Abdullah Mohammad) is charged with communicating threats. Morton helped run a website, RevolutionMuslim, with Zachary Chesser. Chesser is serving a 25-year prison term after pleading guilty to a similar charge and to trying to provide material support to the Somali terrorist group al-Shabaab.

After a "South Park" episode in April 2010 mocked the violent reaction of radical Islamists by portraying the Prophet Mohammad covered by a bear suit, Chesser posted a statement warning producers Matt Stone and Trey Parker that they "will probably wind up like Theo van Gogh for airing this show."

Van Gogh was a Dutch filmmaker who was killed on an Amsterdam street after producing a short film protesting the treatment of women in Islam.

According to an affidavit from FBI Special Agent Paula Menges, Chesser then collaborated with Morton on a "clarification statement" triggered by media inquiries.

"The Clarification Statement contained pages of justification under Islamic law for the death of those who insult Islam or defame its prophet, and for Muslims to bring about such deaths," Menges wrote. "In it, Morton and Chesser asserted in pertinent part that 'we will never tolerate the mocking or insulting of any one of the prophets,' and explained that the Islamic ruling on this situation was that 'the punishment is death.'"

Though the statement indicated they were not inciting violence, it included a quote from Osama bin Laden that threatened those responsible for Danish cartoons depicting Mohammad with "the freedom of our actions" as payback for their free speech.

That, Menges wrote, crosses the line between protected speech and conveying a threat because it warned Stone and Parker they "would be on the receiving end of actions analogous to those of bin Laden if they refused to change their ways."

The clarification statement included a picture of Van Gogh's body after a stranger killed him "for making a film that was perceived to have insulted Islam." Even if they were not making a direct threat, their statement posted on radical Islamist websites could inspire others to act. "[B]y issuing that statement, they certainly knew that violence was likely to be incited by it anyway."

Roggio is reporting that Al Qaeda has appointed a new leader of forces in Pakistan's tribal areas...he is Abdul Shakoor Turkistani, the chief of the Turkistan Islamic Party...

Al Qaeda has appointed the current leader of the allied Turkistan Islamic Party to command al Qaeda's forces in Pakistan's tribal areas and organize al Qaeda's training camps there. The move took place just weeks before al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden was killed in a covert raid by US SEALs and CIA operatives deep inside Pakistan's northwest.

Abdul Shakoor Turkistani, the chief of the Turkistan Islamic Party, has been given command of al Qaeda's forces in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas after Saif al Adel left the region, according to the Karachi Islam, an Urdu-language newspaper that supports the Taliban and jihadist groups. Karachi Islam is associated with the Al Rashid Trust, a charity that serves as an al Qaeda front. The Al Rashid Trust was placed on the list of specially designated terrorist entities just 11 days after al Qaeda's Sept. 11, 2001 attack on the US.

Al Adel, who is al Qaeda's top military strategist and planner, had arrived in Pakistan in 2010 but left Pakistan's tribal areas in April this year due to concerns over the US Predator airstrikes that have targeted and killed top leaders of al Qaeda and allied terror groups. Prior his recent stay in Pakistan, al Adel had been based in Iran after fleeing Afghanistan in late 2001 along with scores of top al Qaeda leaders and their families. Al Adel is also considered as a possible successor to bin Laden.

The appointment of Abdul Shakoor to succeed Saif al Adel as al Qaeda's leader in the tribal areas was made some time in mid- to late April, according to Karachi Islam. Al Adel's location has not been disclosed.

On suspicion of bomb making

..The three German nationals will be arraigned on charges relating to a bomb. The arraignment will take place in federal court on Saturday in Karlsruhe.

Officials said the arrests took place in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia where the men were suspected of preparing a bomb to be used in a major terrorist attack.[More]

The daily Bild reported that the three were Moroccans living in the western German state of North Rhine-Westphalia and were caught with "large amounts of explosives"[...]

They came to the attention of the Federal Crime Office during surveillance of mobile phone and computer communications.

An Acre-based lawyer was charged on Wednesday with aiding a terrorist organization. The lawyer, Suhir Ayoub, was accused by the Jerusalem District Attorney’s office of transferring information between members of the Mahajat El Kuds incarcerated in Israeli prisons and an organization head based out of Gaza. Four other lawyers are being investigated for suspicions of similar offenses.

According to the indictment Ayoub was hired by Mahajat El Kuds operative A’amar A’ashur Abu Hamza to pass on information to the group’s members serving sentences in Israeli prisons.

The indictment stated that Suhir gained access to the prisoners by deceit, representing herself as their lawyer, on two occasions in February and April. During her visits, she allegedly took down messages from the prisoners on matters relating to the organization and then dispersed them among the other prisoners and sent them to Abu Hamza in Gaza.

The prosecution requested that Suhir be placed under arrest until the end of legal proceedings, arguing that she posed a danger to public and national security.

Hamas said its security forces on Tuesday arrested two members of the Tawhid wal-Jihad terrorist group which is suspected of being behind the slaying of Vittorio Arrigoni, the Italian anti-Israel ISM activist murdered in Gaza last Friday, Reuters reports.

A third terrorist committed suicide rather than being taken prisoner, Hamas said.

A conflicting report said two terrorists were slain during the Hamas raid on the Tawhid wal-Jihad cell.

The General Security Service, in conjunction with IDF forces, recently arrested two terrorists who carried out the brutal attack in Itamar last month in which five members of the Fogel family were killed.

The two arrested terrorists, identified with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine[their fecking English website...ed], were Amjad Awad, 18, and Hakim Awad, 17, from the village of Awarta, which neighbors Itamar.

Hakim Awad, a minor according to Israeli law, was arrested on April 5. He is a high school student whose family is identified with the PFLP. His father was a PFLP terrorist who served time in a Palestinian Authority prison at the end of the 1990s for a murder motivated by family honor. Hakim himself was involved in a stabbing incident last year with other youths in the village stemming from a personal dispute.

Hakim's uncle, Jibril, was a PFLP terrorist involved in a 2002 attack in Itamar. In 2003, he was killed in a clash with IDF forces.

Amjad Awad, a university student in Nablus, is also identified with the PFLP. He worked previously as a laborer in Israel[...]

On Friday, March 11, the two terrorists met and agreed to carry out an attack in Itamar that same night. Around 9 in the evening, they left for Itamar carrying knives, as well as shears to cut the fence at Itamar. They also brought hoods to cover their faces. They crossed the distance between Awarta and Itamar, about one kilometer, by foot and climbed the fence surrounding Itamar and jumped to the other side.

From there, they continued uphill through a grove into the settlement, a distance of 400 meters until the first row of houses. They first entered a house next door to the Fogel home. The residents of the home were not there and the terrorists stole a short M-16 rifle as well as a magazine, vest and helmet.

With the stolen weapon in their possession, the terrorists entered the Fogel home. During their interrogation, the terrorists said that they saw that there were children inside in home. The terrorists entered the home and murdered Yoav, 11, and Elad, 4. From there, they moved to room where Udi and Ruth Fogel were with their baby Hadas. The terrorists turned on the light, waking the parents, and a struggle ensued. Udi and Ruth Fogel were stabbed to death and Ruth was also shot by the stolen M-16.

The terrorists stole from the home Udi Fogel's M-16 rifle. They did not see the baby Hadas or Yishai, 2. Hakim saw Roey, 8, but felt that it was time to escape without further delays. In his testimony, Amjad said that he did not notice Roey. The two terrorists left the house.

Outside the home, the terrorists saw a jeep and were worried that the shots had been heard. It turned out that because the night was stormy, the shots had not awakened others in the community. When they saw the jeep do nothing, the terrorists argued over whether to withdraw or to carry out attacks in other homes. Hakim wanted to return immediately to Awarta while Amjad said that he wanted to steal another weapon. Amjad returned to the Fogel home and heard Hadas crying. He was concerned that the crying would be heard outside the home so he stabbed the baby to death. He did not notice Roey or Yishai who continued to sleep. In his testimony, he said that if he had seen the two boys he would have killed them as well.

After the attack, the terrorists returned to Awarta. They went to the house of Salah Awad, a PFLP terrorist and uncle of Hakim. They told him about what they had done. Salah helped them hide their knives and to burn their clothes, which were covered in blood. The stolen weapons were given to Jaad Abid, a Ramallah resident, who hid the guns in his house. Jaad Abid was arrested last Thursday and the guns were found in his home.

The two terrorists returned to their routine daily lives until they were arrested. Others arrested in the case were Hassan Awad, brother of Salah who lived in the same house, Hakim's father Mazen Awad, Jaad Abid and Mohammed Awad.

According to the GSS, the motive for the attack was purely nationalistic. Amjad said that he went to Itamar seeking to die a martyr's death. After admitting to the attack, the terrorists coolly described their actions. A GSS official said that he had never before seen something like this.

"They told us in great detail, clearly all the way through all the stages of investigation what they had done," he said.

The official said that the two refused to express remorse for the murders. For the terrorists, there was no difference between adults and children because "they were all Israelis and Jews."[ More]

An update on this post: Top Indonesian Terrorist Umar Patek Captured in Pakistan.

Umar Patek, 40, the deputy commander of al-Qa'ida's Southeast Asian affiliate Jemaah Islamiah, is believed to have been arrested in Pakistan last month by local intelligence agents acting on a CIA tip-off.

Indonesian police chief Lieutenant General Ito Sumardi said he believed Patek, the subject of a $US1 million bounty offered by the American government, travelled on a commercial flight to Pakistan via Bangkok on a passport using a false name.

General Sumardi said information indicated he was arrested with other al-Qa'ida suspects and was not the target of the raid.[Emphasis mine..ed]

But questions remain over what Patek was doing in Pakistan, which continues to attract foreign militants seeking contact with al-Qa'ida leaders based there, particularly in lawless tribal areas near the Afghan border.

Pakistani intelligence agents on Wednesday confirmed he had been arrested and was being held for questioning. "The CIA tipped us off that he might be travelling here," one official said,....

Earlier this month the spiritual leader of Jemaah Islamiyah, Abu Bakar Bashir, went on trial in Indonesia. He is accused of helping to set up an al-Qaeda linked training camps in Indonesia.

JAKARTA, Indonesia — A top Indonesian terror suspect wanted in the deadly 2002 Bali bombings has been arrested in Pakistan, intelligence sources said Tuesday.

Umar Patek, a suspected member of the al-Qaida linked militant group Jemaah Islamiyah, is believed to have served as the group's deputy field commander in the nightclub bombings that left 202 people dead, many of them foreigners.

The U.S., which lost seven citizens in the attack, was offering a $1 million reward for his arrest.

Two intelligence officials — one in Indonesia and the other in the Philippines — said Tuesday that Patek was taken into custody in Pakistan earlier this year. They both spoke on condition of anonymity, citing the sensitivity of the information.

The question of what to do with Patek could be an indicator of how U.S. President Barack Obama wants to handle major terrorist suspects captured abroad.

The Secretary of State has designated al-Qa’ida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) operative and bomb maker Ibrahim Hassan Tali al-Asiri under E.O. 13224, which targets terrorists and their supporters. This action will help stem the flow of finances to al-Asiri by blocking all property subject to U.S. jurisdiction in which al-Asiri has an interest and prohibiting all transactions by U.S. persons with al-Asiri. AQAP has previously been designated by the United States under Executive Order 13224 and as a Foreign Terrorist Organization.

Al-Asiri is an AQAP operative and serves as the terrorist organization’s primary bomb maker. Before joining AQAP, al-Asiri was part of an al-Qa’ida affiliated terrorist cell in Saudi Arabia and was involved in planned bombings of oil facilities in the Kingdom.

Al-Asiri gained particular notoriety for the recruitment of his younger brother as a suicide bomber in a failed assassination attempt of Saudi Prince Muhammed bin Nayif. Although the assassination attempt failed, the brutality, novelty and sophistication of the plot is illustrative of the threat posed by al-Asiri. Al-Asiri is credited with designing the remotely detonated device, which contained one pound of explosives concealed inside his *brother’s body.[Emphasis mine..ed]

Al-Asiri is currently wanted by the Government of Saudi Arabia. In addition, Interpol has published an Orange Notice warning the public about the threat posed by him.
