CNN: While others enjoy the approaching summer, barbeques and baseball, one American family scours the internet looking for clues to whether their son is alive.

U.S. authorities also want to find him but not to secure a happy family reunion.
Their son, Omar Hammami, is a wanted Islamist terrorist fighting -- or barely surviving -- in Somalia with a $5 million bounty on his head.

Now after an apparent assassination attempt on their son, the family opens up in an exclusive CNN interview about how their son grew up to be a terrorist, how their lives are changed forever and how their joint faith has seen them survive burdens that could have destroyed other families.

He's dead Jim.?

If confirmed this would seem to fit with the fact that He's not tweeted since the 3rd of May.

Our condolences to his mother. Omar was a terrorist, but so far as terrorists go they are not all unlikeable. And he was just American enough to speak up when he witnessed what he saw as al-Shabaab serving its own interests rather than the interests of what Omar calls Islam.

So I guess you can take the Jihadi out of America but you can't take the American out of the Jihadi.

In the end Omar's story is a tragic tale of boy meets Jihad, abandons his family and friends for Somalia. Where the Jihad turns on him and all that's left behind are the crying widows, orphans, mothers and fathers.

The wages of Jihad is death.

Updated: 05/08/2013: 11:55 CDT: Still not confirmed , but forum sources also claim that Hammami is alive and in good spirits. Neither the dead nor the alive claims are proven say with photographic evidence.

Selected Wisdom: So what is my take? Well, if I had to guess, and the situation could change at any minute, I’d make the following guess on Omar’s fate as of now. (Taking a lesson from Nate Silver, I’ll make my prediction based on probabilities.

75% chance he’s still alive – unless I see more signals and verification, I’m not believing he’s been killed. I think Shabaab will be quick to take credit if they get him.

20% chance he’s dead – whether he died yesterday or not, he’s still in an incredibly vulnerable position. They’ve already tried to kill him a few weeks back, they could get him at any minute.

5% chance Omar is and always has been part of a Zombie vanguard operating in Somalia. This would explain why he continues to escape death – he was never alive in the first place.

He's still not dead Jim.

Omar Hammami, the Alabama-born jihadi in Somalia who achieved Internet fame through his raps, appears to be safe for now after a series of increasingly desperate tweets yesterday about his standoff with Somali militants.

Hammami, also known as Abu Mansour al-Amriki, began tweeting at @abumamerican around the time of his falling-out with al-Shabaab, the militant group he moved to Somalia to join. His tweets on Monday were a string of dispatches from an increasingly tense standoff with al-Shabaab fighters, with whom he has fallen out. "I think he's in a lot of trouble, although the fact he's managed to stay alive this long is already surprising," said J.M. Berger, a terrorism expert who is one of Hammami's most frequent interlocutors on Twitter, on Monday afternoon.

On Tuesday, Hammami showed signs of life, tweeting that "Abu mansuur, afghani, hasan thahir uweys, &others passed a fatwa on http://aljahd.com that fighting us is haram &that we arent bughat." Berger translated on his own Twitter the meaning of the fatwa: "Shabab sheikhs Robow and Aways co-signed a fatwa related to Godane's 'attempted assassination' of Omar Hammami and other foreign fighters. I'll wait for a real translation for nuance, but the broad takeaway from the fatwa is: 'Do not obey the prince in disobedience to God.'" Godane, or Moktar Ali Zubeyr, is the leader of al-Shabaab. The fatwa was posted on the Jahad jihadist online forum. The fatwa "theoretically bodes well for Omar and his allies," Berger tweeted.

Imagine my surprise and heartbreak when I returned from vacation to find that Omar Hammami had been shot in the neck and was probably buzzard bait somewhere in the Somali desert. I and I'd missed the whole sheebang!

Then imagine the sigh of relief when Stable Hand emailed with a He's not dead Jim!

Hiding in a hole? Damn that's a letdown. I thought the brave Muj would stand to the death while facing impossible odds. Silly me.

Anyway, I'm back now so you may proceed with the operation. Fire when ready.

Update: It looks like Shabaab is creating a Kangaroo Sharia case against Omar.

It appears his group is holding out in the forest against those seeking him. It appears he's not very optimistic about the eventual outcome.

He became so powerful, the only thing he was afraid of was losing his power, which, eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew. Then his apprentice killed him in his sleep. It's ironic. He could save others from death, but not himself."

Omar Hammami tweeted yesterday that he'd been shot by a "Shabaab assassin" in the neck, but that the wound didn't seem mortal to him and he was self treating it.

Vinnie called him out on it saying we wouldn't believe it unless he gave us photographic evidence.

In reply, he posted a series of images, including this one:

So, a guy on the FBI's Top 10 Most Wanted Terrorist list was just shot by the terrorists who he went to Somalia to help. Ironic.

But the plot thickens.

After the assassination attempt Hammami then claimed that Shabaab had teamed up with the Somali government and have surrounded the village where he's holed up. A second source tweeting from Mogidishu also claims that word is that one of Shabaab's factions has Hammami and five others considered disloyal to the terror group surrounded. For his part, Hammami says that the locals back him and his rag tag group of non-Somalis.

His last tweet was that:

they are sending forces from multiple directions. we are few but we might get back up. abu zubayr has gone mad. he's starting a civil war.

It seems that our efforts to get Omar to come home and face the music have failed. And as we've been telling him for months, this isn't going to end well.

At least not for him. But for the rest of us? Pass the popcorn.

Spencer Ackerman over at Wired interviews Omar Hammami over Twitter. It's worth the read, and we get a mention:

Jihadis and their American opposites have engaged each other over the Internet for years, notes Will McCants, a former State Department terrorism adviser. But usually those efforts are tentative and rarely substantial — let alone fun. What’s happening with Hammami is something new. “He comes across as quite likeable. He’s willing to listen, hear your argument and respond to it,” McCants says. “He’s not just a robot, he’s got this great sense of humor.”

He’s even winning over who prefer to point and laugh at jihadis, like Rusty Shackleford of the My Pet Jawa blog. Hammami recently tweeted, “rusty, I ain’t comin’ home alive jus like you ain’t gonna stop puttin’ soft porn up on mypetjawa. and to shabab, I’m here till u fix up.” Shackleford blogged, “I’ve actually become kinda fond of the guy — if that’s possible.”

The worry here, and it's expressed in the article, is that the American people are not mature enough to handle the fact that evil people can also be nice.

Hitler didn't go around stealing candy from little kids. In fact, he never killed any one personally. He didn't go around torturing animals. He loved animals. He was a vegetarian.

Monstrosity is not expressed in small acts of meanness, but in occasional and usually rare acts of great evil.

Most people get that. I hope. It's mostly just Hollywood that doesn't get it (among the many other things they don't get).

And here's where it gets weird: up to now, I was under the assumption that Omar had only killed people in the usual course of an insurgency fighting an organized military.

But it turns out Omar is a murderer:

Buh-bye:

An Eritrean man who admitted to receiving military training and aiding the al-Shabaab terrorist organization in Somalia was sentenced by a federal judge in Manhattan to nine years and three months in prison.

Mohamed Ibrahim Ahmed, 38, who pleaded guilty in June to two counts of conspiracy, faced as long as 10 years in prison under nonbinding U.S. sentencing guidelines.

Ahmed, an Eritrean native who moved to Sweden as a child before going to Somalia, was arrested in Nigeria in 2009 and brought to the U.S. the following year, prosecutors said.

He admitted to contributing about 3,000 euros ($3,835) to al-Shabaab and was trained to make and detonate bombs while he was in Somalia, prosecutors said.

NEW YORK, NY—Preet Bharara, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, and John Carlin, Acting Assistant Attorney General for National Security, announced today the unsealing of the guilty plea of Ahmed Abdulkadir Warsame to a nine-count indictment charging him with providing material support to al Shabaab and al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP)—two designated foreign terrorist organizations—as well as conspiring to teach and demonstrate the making of explosives, possessing firearms and explosives in furtherance of crimes of violence, and other violations. Warsame pleaded guilty on December 21, 2011, before U.S. District Judge Colleen McMahon in Manhattan federal court as part of a cooperation agreement with the United States.

Warsame, a Somali national in his mid-20s, was captured in the Gulf of Aden between Somalia and Yemen by the U.S. military on April 19, 2011, and was questioned for intelligence purposes for more than two months. Thereafter, Warsame was read his Miranda rights, and, after waiving those rights, he spoke to law enforcement agents for several days. Warsame arrived in the Southern District of New York on July 5, 2011.

Manhattan U.S. Attorney Bharara said, “The capture of Ahmed Warsame and his lengthy interrogation for intelligence purposes, followed by his thorough questioning by law enforcement agents, was an intelligence watershed. The handling of Warsame represents a seamless orchestration by our military, intelligence, and law enforcement agencies that significantly furthered our ability to find, fight and apprehend those who wish to do us harm. Warsame’s capture, cooperation, and prosecution is a major victory for the United States, for its citizens and for justice.”

Acting Assistant Attorney General for National Security Carlin said, “Ahmed Warsame served as a critical link between two foreign terrorist organizations and was an operational terrorist leader, commanding hundreds of fighters. His capture, successful interrogation, and guilty plea demonstrate how U.S. military, intelligence, and law enforcement assets coordinate to neutralize threats and protect the country. I thank all those responsible for this important operation.”

According to the indictment, Warsame’s sworn guilty plea allocution before Judge McMahon, and other public information:

From 2007 until April 2011, Warsame conspired with others, including American citizens, to provide material support to al Shabaab. He fought as a soldier on behalf of al Shabaab in Somalia in 2009 and provided other forms of support to the terrorist organization, including explosives, weapons, and training. In addition, Warsame possessed and used destructive devices, machine guns, and an AK-47 semi-automatic assault weapon in Somalia in support of al Shabaab.

Warsame also brokered a weapons deal, arranging for al Shabaab to purchase weapons directly from AQAP. From 2009 until April 2011, he conspired with others, including American citizens, to provide material support to AQAP in the form of money, training, communications equipment, and personnel. While Warsame was in Yemen in 2010 and 2011, he received weapons, explosives and other military-type training from the terrorist organization. In addition, he possessed and used grenades and an AK-47 semi-automatic assault weapon in Yemen in support of AQAP.

From 2010 until April 2011, Warsame conspired to teach and demonstrate the making of explosives and instruct other terrorists and would-be terrorists how to do so. Specifically, Warsame received training in explosives directly from members of AQAP, intending to share that training with al Shabaab when he returned to Somalia.

Warsame was captured at sea by the U.S. in April 2011 on his way back to Somalia from Yemen.

Al Shabaab was designated by the U.S. Department of State as a foreign terrorist organization in February 2008. AQAP was so designated in January 2010.

Warsame pleaded guilty to all nine counts of the indictment with which he was charged, and he faces the possibility of life in prison. The charges and maximum penalties are reflected in the below chart.

Mr. Bharara praised the extraordinary investigative work of the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, which principally consists of agents from the FBI and detectives from the New York Police Department. He also thanked the Department of Defense and the National Security Division of the Department of Justice.

This case is being handled by the Terrorism and International Narcotics Unit of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, with assistance from the Counterterrorism Section of the Justice Department’s National Security Division. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Benjamin Naftalis, Adam S. Hickey, Sean S. Buckley, and Anna Skotko are in charge of the prosecution.

Methinks that will put a damper on recruiting.

Young American aficionados of al Shabaab and al Qaeda (Europeans too): Listen up! You probably thought that if you joined Shabaab/al Qaeda you might eventually get thrown in jail. That’s a good bet. However, you probably also thought when you got thrown in jail it would be a U.S. jail or even worse a foreign jail of a U.S. counterterrorism partner. But, you would be wrong. The two most likely results of joining al Shabaab are:

Shabaab will eventually betray you and kill you.
Shabaab will throw you in Shabaab jail…(Even worse than being in a U.S. or foreign partner prison.)

... Today, revealed that the other American foreign fighter imprisoned by Shabaab may be Said Fidhin – an American from Seattle, Washington...

Its sad for the mothers, fathers, widows and orphans. But if for some reason a drone or Shabaab found Omar in bay/bokol I'd care a lot less than I did yesterday.

One of we know quite well around here, it's the Alabama born Omar Hammami. Incidentally, I told Omar this morning that I'd gladly split the reward with his family if he'd just tweet me his location. You can buy a lot of donkeys with that kind of cash.

I'm still waiting.

But the other one? The Waukesha, Wisconsin born Jehad Serwan Mostafa is new to me:

Jehad Serwan Mostafa, a.k.a. Ahmed Gurey, Anwar al-Amriki, or Emir Anwar; is a United States citizen and former resident of California. He has performed various functions for al-Shabaab, including acting as a training camp instructor and a leader of foreign fighters. He is also skilled in the group’s media activities. Mostafa is an American citizen who lived in San Diego, California before moving to Somalia in 2005. He may have or is likely to visit the following areas: Somalia, Yemen, Ethiopia, Kenya, and other African countries.

Mostafa is on the FBI’s Most Wanted Terrorists List, and is sought by the FBI for his alleged terrorist activities. On October 9, 2009, a federal arrest warrant was issued for Mostafa in the United States District Court, Southern District of California. Mostafa was charged with the following crimes: conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists; conspiracy to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization; and providing material support to a foreign terrorist organization.

Anyway, if anyone knows the whereabouts of these guys just drop a line to your friendly local FBI office.

And no smart ass "locations", like calling the Feds and saying they're in Somalia.

Al-Shabaab militants beheaded a 75-year-old imam in Hudur on Monday night (March 18th), a day after the militants took control of the town, Somalia's Hiiraan Online reported. The militants dumped the beheaded body of Sheikh Abdirahman Moalin Warsame in a hole near his home.

Since Shabaab can't control the Twiiter narrative. it decided to just steal the cell phones.

Omar Hammami’s persistent countering of Shabaab on Twitter has likely eroded the group’s appeal amongst foreign fighters seeking to join the struggling group. Now, Hammami’s band of Twitter dissenters appears to have expanded and the “Muhajir” in Somalia have taken to the Twitterverse to express their resentment to Abu Zubayr (Godane) – Shabaab’s leader. The “Muhajir” (foreign fighters) continue exposing the rift between local Somali Shabaab members and the global foreign fighters that have joined the group only to be treated as second class. Here, @jawshan7, a Shabaab loyalist, and @abuu_haajir, a Muj dissenter, illuminate the divisions in Shabaab – in awful Twitter English.

Obviously we've hit an impasse here.

But still isn't that a bit selfish? I mean going down in a blaze of Jihadi Glory when its not required? The widows and orphans are going to start stacking up you. Don't they deserve better?

An Alabama born man on the FBI's Most Wanted Terrorist List has confirmed ownership of a Twitter account long thought to be his. Omar Hammami, better known by his jihdi name of Abu Mansour al-Amriki, confirmed today that the @abuamerican Twitter account was his.

Prior to today the account tweeted statements as if it was from a personal friend of Hammami's. However, over the past few months it became clear that Hammami himself was doing the tweeting. In recent weeks Hammami simply deflected questions about the authorship of the tweets, but also declined to deny that it was his.

Today in a conversation with Intelwire's J.M. Berger, Hammami confirmed that the account did, indeed, belong to him:

The mood of Hammami has been especially dour lately as an apparent rift has broken out between the native Somali fighters of the al Shabaab movement and foreigners. Videos Hammami posted to his YouTube account suggest that the native Somalis have become distrustful of the foreigners that once fought by their side, going so far as to accuse them of various crimes -- including being "spies". At one point Hammami seemed to think that his life was on the line.

In response, Hammami claims that Shabaab has "fallen off the cliff" accusing them of arbitrary court rulings, tribalism, and abandoning the goal of a global Caliphate.

At one time Shabaab leaders had pledged loyalty to al Qaeda.

Although Hammami often tweets on his Salaafi version of Islam and of his dream of a world wide Islamic empire, he seems more comfortable using typical American expressions and can often be seen joking around with counter-terrorism experts -- people who you might expect he'd think were "the enemy".

Just this morning he and our own Howie (@darthodius) had a conversation about St. Patrick's Day in which Hammami noted that his mother's side of the family was Irish. And when describing his rift with al Shabaab, Hammami used a Road Runner v. Wiley Coyote reference.

In any event, I thought the whole thing was very interesting. Here you have a wanted terrorist in Somalia who's been pretty active on Twitter and today confirmed to us all that, yes, it really was him.

To be honest, I've actually become kinda fond of the guy -- if that's possible. As several of us have suggested to him: come home -- you might go to jail, but at least you'll be alive.

And being alive is increasingly not looking realistic if he chooses to stay in Somalia.

Sadly, unless they are rescued, they most likely will be killed. The savages of the African Taliban enjoy killing innocents:

Nairobi — Twenty-six-year-old Komora Yesse is an emotionally wrecked man.

His brother's heart-wrenching fate is due to be sealed within the next 20 something hours, in the war-torn Somalia.

So as the clock slowly ticks towards midnight Thursday, he will have to keep checking social networks to know whether or not the Al Shabaab terror group makes good its threat to execute his elder brother, Edward Mule and registration clerk Fredrick Irungu.

"It is very sad. It is hard on my mother because of the pain of losing a child. It is hard on my sister, his wife, my father and me. We just want to talk to him again. All I think of is Mule," says Yesse.[More...]

They have since opened a new Twitter account - @HSMPRESS1. I don't see anything on it regarding these hostages and most likely they are careful not to do so. There is also another Twitter account here, but most likely a supporter and not a spokesperson for al-Shabaab.

Tomorrow will tell the tale, sigh. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the hostages.

Twitter yawns over TOS violation as they did when Al Shabaab, aka @HSMPress, threatened to kill French hostage Denis Allex if France attempted to rescue him. He died and Al Shabaab tweeted several images of a French commando who was killed in the failed hostage rescue operation.

I suppose we should start calling Twitter JihadTweet or JihadTwitter or TwitterJihad, much like we call Google's YouTube JihadTube.

I've been busy and I've not had time to really read and study Omar Hammami's last release, although we did run the raw data and some Googlish translations of the documents.

Selected Wisdom has a breakdown and some thoughts here.

Previously, Omar had posted his biography, in english, which was ignored by the e-jihadi crowd. This time he wrote two Arabic documents, which detail his trials and tribulations in Somalia. I’m assuming he chose Arabic to make sure word got out in the jihadi crowd. Abu Mansour Al-Amriki aka Omar Hammami released a second message on his Youtube channel while I was out.

On October 19, 2012, American Al-Shabab commander 'Omar Hammami (aka Abu Mansour Al-Amriki) released a three-minute video titled "An Urgent Message" on his YouTube channel.[1] In it, Hammami discusses a serious schism between the Somali (i.e. ansar) and foreign (muhajirin) Al-Shabab fighters, over what appear to be strategic matters. Specifically, Hammami describes the clash as centering around the foreign fighters' desire to extend Al-Shabab operations beyond Somalia.

Hammami's message is addressed to the "leaders of jihad," i.e. the Al-Qaeda leadership, whom he asks to intervene in Al-Shabab's "bitter" situation in Somalia as an impartial arbiter, in order to achieve a sustainable resolution to the internal strife affecting the group.

At the end of his video message, Hammami notes that he has provided further details in a written letter; however, as of this writing, no written message appears on Hammami's YouTube channel or Twitter account.

Here are a few translated quotes Via MEMRI

.To the leaders of jihad and the virtuous scholars, [this is a message] from Abu Mansour Al-'Amriki...I beseech your good health of Allah...

"As to the content of this letter, I ask your forgiveness for its extreme brevity and the hastiness of its preparation; however, the difficult conditions, changing situations, and shortness of time play a major role [in the writing of this letter] and place a significant constraint upon us... I wished in this brief message only to allude to the bitter situation that currently engulfs the Somali muhajirin [i.e. foreign fighters], in order to bring the situation to your attention in hopes of a fundamental solution being achieved through your intervention as an impartial... judge.

"Generally, Somalia's history has witnessed some level of friction between the ansar [indigenous fighters] and the muhajirin – to put it another way, between the men who advocate global jihad and those who focus on the local [i.e. Somalia]. I have witnessed important events in this history during my contact with Al-Qaeda men, such as Abu Talha Al-Sudani, Abu 'Abdallah Al-Sudani, Abu Mansour Al-Bayhani, Saleh Al-Nabhan, and Abu Fadl Al-Qamari. And the conflict that took place between those men and the ansar leaders persists [today], after the imprisonment of some and the martyrdom of most, in the framework of the relations between the muhajirin and the ansar, both on the individual and group levels.

"We are concerned that soon, this conflict [between the ansar and muhajirin] will be decided in favor of those who wish for the companies of global jihad not to depart from the land of the two hijra [an epithet for the historical Abyssinia; here, Somalia in particular]... in order to devastate the interests of the unbelievers worldwide. Yet worse, we are worried that the end will have undesirable [consequences, including] injustice, imprisonment, and infighting. Therefore, [I ask you in the name of] Allah [to come to the aid of] your mujahideen brothers, and to rein in the internal strife before it is too late. Be aware that we have sought a means to communicate with you for an extended period of time, especially after the martyrdom of [Saleh] Al-Nabhan, however, many obstacles stood between us. [But] today, the opportunity [to communicate with you] has arrived.

"Do not abandon us, and make sure to contact your muhajirin brothers who rely on you greatly, and even some of the ansar [who rely on you as well]. [Further] details can be found in [my] written letter. We hope for [your] impartial and just [intervention]..."

Omar Hammami, the Alabama-born Jihadist who abandoned his roots to join an Islamic extremist group in Somalia, publicly spoke out against the beleaguered Al Shabaab militants on Friday and appealed to al-Qaida for help.

Hammami, 28, who goes by the name Abu Mansour Al Amriki (the American), posted a video of himself on YouTube condemning his former comrades in arms, accusing them of mistreating foreign recruits and ignoring the principles of their Islamic faith, focused only on retaining power for themselves.

In an exclusive interview with Current TV that Hammami gave from Somalia, he said that he knew the brash tactic could get him killed, but that he felt it was important to speak out about how Al Shabaab is “running a police state to keep those in power in power, as opposed to what is in the best interest of Islam.”

The jury returned its verdict against Mahamud Said Omar after deliberating for about eight hours over two days. Chief U.S. District Judge Michael Davis has not set a sentencing date.Omar, 46, nodded quietly as an interpreter gave him the news. As he was being led from the courtroom, he held his hands up over his head and smiled at his brothers and other supporters.

A Somali man who acted as a ransom negotiator for pirates who seized an American yacht last year and killed four American hostages was sentenced on Monday by a U.S. federal judge to serve 12 life sentences.

Mohammad Shibin was convicted in April on 15 charges including piracy, hostage taking, kidnapping and conspiracy.

He was paid $30,000 to $50,000 in cash for his negotiating services, according to a federal indictment.

In a courtroom in Norfolk, Virginia, U.S. District Judge Robert Doumar sentenced Shibin to serve 10 concurrent life sentences, two consecutive life sentences and two 20-year sentences and ordered him to pay $5.4 million in restitution.

"Mohammad Shibin was a key participant in two of the most heinous acts of piracy in modern memory," U.S. Attorney Neil MacBride said in a statement.

I'm pretty sure Pink Floyd didn't have this in mind when they wrote The Wall:

Al-Qaeda has been setting up “terrorist schools” to allegedly confine kidnapped young children and brainwash them into future attacks on western countries, the Daily Mail reported on Sunday.

The “school” keeps the young children, all under the age of ten and some as young as seven, chained to beds while they are taught a very extreme version of Islam, the newspaper stated. It has been claimed that they were also taught about suicide bombings and told they would go to paradise if they committed suicide in “martyrdom operations.”

“The images suggest al-Shabaab has turned to slavery in order to produce a generation of child soldiers and suicide bombers.” Doyle, author of Terror Base UK and Terror Tracker told the Sunday Mirror.

I found it using the same Youtube account where he posted that he was in fear of his life by members of al-Shabaab.

In the Name of Allaah the Most Beneficent the Most Mericful. Indeed all praises are due to the Lord of the Worlds and may He send peace, blessings, and salaah upon His Messenger and upon his family and companions, as well as those who follow his guidance until the Day of Judgment.

Due to the unpredictable nature of the environment in the lands of Jihaad, I decided now is as good a time as any to release the first part of my auto-biography. Although nothing special, I thought my addition to the Jihaadi library could at least provide some benefit. I find the advice of Abu Muscab as-Suuri1 that we should document our history extremely important for a number of reasons: 1) events are happening more rapidly in the age of Globalization, 2) the war of narratives has become even more important than the war of navies, apalms, and knives, 3) with the internet, recording events and spreading reports of them has become extremely easy (so we should take whatever we can get).

Due to the necessity of security the first part of this auto-biography only reaches up to my affiliation with Xarakah ash-Shabaab al-Mujaahidiin. I'm sure everyone can understand the need for such measures. But in all reality the lands of Jihaad are all similar and history inevitably repeats itself, so I would imagine that the following information is enough of a glimpse into reality to provide the foundations for future insight.

It says little about his status except that he's alive, very bored and apparently he's now allowed to access the internet. Although publishing this seems like he may have his doubts about how long this will be the case.

If you can get past the blow by blow account of Grade School, Jr. High and dropping out of college he eventually talks about Jihad and has a Q&A session in which he muses on the similarities between he and the late Steve Jobs. I shit you not.

It appears Hamammi has been in communication with Christof Putzel of Current TV who also blogs at Huffpo for some time. Jawa Report intercepted the upload as Hamammi added a link to the description on his last known Youtube channel today.

Once considered a key figure of Al Shabaab’s leadership, posting videos on YouTube of leading battles in the field and recruiting other Muslim westerners to join him in Somalia, Hammami appears to have fallen out of favor with Al Shabaab and is currently alone in hiding. In March, he posted a video in which he described his fears that Al Shabaab may plan to kill him.

Hammami has been indicted on terrorism charges and is wanted by the FBI.
