Despite calls from al Qaeda's online battalions to "invade Facebook", Murad Batal Al-shishani searches and doesn't find that many of them using the social networking tool.

The author has searched Facebook using keywords such as "jihad," "al-Qaeda," "al-Zarqawi," "Bin Laden," etc. and found a number of pro-al-Qaeda groups (“groups” on Facebook are applications created by users with common interests, fan-bases, advocates of a cause, etc). The author found that the number of members in these groups, which use names such as "Zarqawi," "al-Jihad al-Rayyan," "al-Qaeda," "Yusuf al-Batar battalion," etc. range from 50 to 150; however, groups using the name "Osama bin Laden," (there is more than one) tend to have more members, sometimes in excess of 400.

Yeah, that's not a problem.

I know that you know what Aulaqi's all about, and I can't explain any further. I'm so fired up about this I'm shaking. Please, please stop this group. Please shut down this source of hatred. Take away their voice. They keep re-creating this group, take away their digital safe haven and hunt them down until they run out of ways to hide.

I am so tired of fighting against these evil, evil, EVIL...people. I have had friends killed by these murders, they are attacking our country, and I'm facking tired of it being rubbed in my nose by spineless cretins like this. Please, Rusty, rally the troops.

It's very self serving for the Saudis to claim that, thanks to their efforts, there are only 50 or so websites which openly support al Qaeda. The number is completely bogus. Sure, many of the large websites have been shut down -- most famously the al-Ekhlaas forum, al Qaeda's semi-official online meeting place -- but there are a lot of smaller websites popping up all the time.

Now the number 200 for the same types of websites, but in English, seems much more believable:

The number of English-language sites sympathetic to al-Qaida has risen from about 30 seven years ago to more than 200 recently, said Abdulmanam Almushawah, head of a Saudi government program called Assakeena, which works to combat militant Islamic Web sites.

In contrast, Arabic-language radical sites have dropped to around 50, down from 1,000 seven years ago, because of efforts by governments around the world to shut them down, he said.

I understand the argument that some of these websites are valuable intelligence assets, and I am sympathetic to it. The major caveat, of course, is the word some.

However, the argument that nothing can be done since this is the internet and therefore can't be controlled or that nothing should be done on the grounds of free speech are both rather pathetic.

The latter because it is morally repugnant: one can kill our enemies but not suppress their speech?

The former because it is simply not true.

We have over hundred thousand troops at risk in Iraq and Afghanistan, many of them engaged in missions with low value. With a few hundred men we could eliminate 99% of the online jihad. The other 1% could be left up to gather intel. Just keep the Justice Department out of it and we're halfway to victory.

This post was premised on the idea that The Blotter correctly identifies that YouTube account with Hasan's friend Duane Reasoner. That account does belong to a Muslim, but one thing that seems off is that several videos which appear to show "ooklepookle" rambling semi-incoherently show someone that seems much older than 18 years old. He may live with his parents, but I doubt very much that he's 18.

Also, we have audio of "Duane Reasoner, Jr." here. The voice does not match the voice of "ooklepookle".

I'm not going pull the entire post yet, but there's something wrong with the Blotter's facts which have seriously screwed up our research. Keep that in mind as you read on. Let me know where the Blotter got it wrong. Is it just the YouTube "ooklepookle" that isn't Duane, or is it all of their links?

Blotter is usually so good with their info, so this is kind of a let down. Especially since I may have to offer a scumbag like Cohen an apology!!

That, and the fact that I just spent the last three hours of my life on this.

Seriously, I could use some help figuring out what went wrong here. Are there two "ooklepookles" and the Blotter, and therefore we, just assumed the two users with the same nickname were the same guy?

PS - Oh, and the Blotter article has a lot of quotes from Jarret. He didn't even know they published it. He was just used as an expert and didn't have any knowledge of the link they were making between Duane and "ooklepookle".

Update #2 by Stable Hand: It appears the blotter could have made a mistake by trying to compare two different ooklepookles. By searching it appears the apparent real ooklepookle (Duane Reasoner) is 18 years old and is from Copperas Cove, TX which is part of the Kileen, Temple, and Fort Hood Metropolitan area according to wiki.

Ooklepookle #2 appears to be Duane Edwards who goes by the same handle. His Myspace site says he is 32 yrs old and is also from Texas.
UPDATE 3 by Stable Hand..After further research they are both the same Duane,apparently he changed his profile including removing his pix. The YouTube, as Rusty noted, is the wrong ooklepookle.

The question remains, have both been in contact with Joey?

I've received several emails about this ABC story on Nidal Hasan's friend, frequent dining companion, and protege Duane Reasoner, Jr. According to that report one of Reasoner's online handles was "ooklepookle".

I had already written about some of this, but thought it deserved it's own post.

While the Blotter story does tell us that Reasoner had at least one online conversation via YouTube with someone using the "IslamicRevolutionTV" account, what it doesn't tell you is that "IslamicRevolutionTV" is run by New York City's Joseph "Youssef al-Khattab" Cohen. Cohen's voice can be clearly heard in this video posted by IslamicRevolutionTV here.

The profile page for IslamicRevolutionTV also links to Cohen's Revolution Muslim website.

From the Blotter with my comments in the brackets:

On August 1, 2009, in response to a video that was posted on YouTube by user IslamicRevolution TV [Cohen's channel], "ooklepookle" [Duane Reasoner's YouTube handle] posted the comment, "Ya Abdullah do you have any vids on martyrdom operations or the ruling on them." The user [Cohen] answered, "No I don't but look around online on the Jihadi blogs."

Reasoner also subscribes to Cohen's personal "Revolution Muslim" channel [see subscriptions here] and to YouTube account the boys at Revolution Muslims run for exiled Shiekh Abdullah al-Faisal [see subscriptions here].

Reasoner also added Cohen as a "friend" on his JustinTV page (see image at top of post).

I think it is fair to say Reasoner traveled in the same online circles as Cohen. It would therefore not be shocking to learn that so did Hasan.

In fact, there is evidence that Hasan also followed Cohen's website.

While doing a search for "ooklepookle" Howie came across his name as a registered user on Cohen's website on a Google cache page of it. It seems that the "robot" that snaps pictures of websites for Google just happened to take the image at the exact moment that "ooklepookle" was online.

At first this seemed to be the most significant piece of information from that Google cache page. Hasan's friend was a registered user at Cohen's website. It also appears Cohen is trying to purge the site of Reasoner's tracks.

Until you look closer at the post. The post is actually a comment by "Slave of Allah". Which is what Hasan had printed on his own business cards --- "SoA".

It's a generic enough name, but appearing on the same web page as a known friend of Nidal Hasan? That would be quite the coincidence, indeed.

The one thing working against this theory is that the "Slave of Allah" posting here identifies himself as a "revert" -- which is what Muslims call converts. However, I know of many times when those who were born into a Muslim family, strayed, and then "found the truth" also called themselves revert.

In any event, if this is not Hasan we do have proof positive that his friend Duane Reasoner was definitely a fan of Khattab's Revolution Muslim website and his YouTube propaganda videos.

The Blotter article also mentions another YouTube user that Reasoner subscribed to:

On another unknown date Reasoner became a subscriber to the YouTube channel of a YouTube user named Sahab929 who posted videos of al-Qaeda leaders Osama Bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawahiri. "Sahab" is the name of the media company that produces al-Qaeda's videos and, said Brachman, might be adopted as a user name by a fan or supporter of jihad.

And what of his other online activities?

Well, like his mentor Nidal Hasan we learn that Reasoner was once supportive of President Obama. His photobucket account show a mixture of terror symbols, such as these Hamas and Hizbollah symbols ....

... and several campaign images for Barack Obama.

Other images, though, show that Reader, like his mentor Hasan, may have become disillusioned with Obama. For instance, this image of the President:

The point of all this is that jihadis do not exist in a vacuum on their own. They feed off each other, giving each other support, send each other propaganda which reinforces their radicalism, and they egg each other on to transition from what Jarret Brachman calls "jihobbyist" to becoming terrorists.

As I said earlier, Cohen is certainly no Abdullah Azzam. Hell, he's not even a Samir Khan or a Adam Gadahn. He's more like the Paris Hilton of the eHadi world. A publicity whore with little to no talent.

But nevertheless the narrative pushed by those involved in the media jihad is dangerous in that it reinforces the agenda of al Qaeda and other violent Islamist groups. I can't begin to tell you how many mushy headed students actually admire Paris Hilton. Cohen, I'm sure, has a following of his own.

That following included one of Nidal Hasan's freinds, and may very well have included Hasan himself.

Certainly by his own self admission he's rubbed shoulders with plenty of indicted or convicted would-be terrorists. Smoke is not always accompanied by fire, and there's no indication that Cohen has the balls to do that which he praises in others. But the narrative which he pushes is dangerous. And inasmuch as a certain percentage of morons look up to him, then he needs to be stopped.

A document produced by the AG's office in support of keeping would-be jihadi Tarek "Abu Sabaya" Mehanna in jail pending trial is a treasure trove of information on how the fifth columnists among us think. Even more importantly, the tone of the lengthy paper give me hope that some in the federal government finally get the online jihad.

A couple of things.

First, it's worth noting that Mehanna takes credit for producing this video which claims to be from the media wing of al Qaeda in Iraq -- al-Furqan. That is, he considered himself to be working in a freelance capacity for al Qaeda.

Second, I'll note Mehanna's glee at seeing the desecration of the bodies of dead Americans. For instance, this reaction to a video of two US soldiers -- Thomas Tucker and Kristian Menchaca -- on an al Qaeda video. Mehanna says:

Several pages of the document describe how Mehanna saw himself as participating in the 39 steps. He often complained that his attempts at joining terrorist organizations had been unsuccessful. But by using the internet in support of terrorists abroad he was, in fact, participating in jihad:

The danger he poses is not limited to the commission of crimes of violence (whether here or abroad) against Americans and American interests. The weapons he used included a keyboard and computer.

it is clear from many of the excerpts discussed above, that MEHANNA was serving jihad, and following many of the “Steps” set forth in 39 Ways, which was translated by him for more wider distribution and availability....

Step 2 is “Truthfully Ask Allah for Martyrdom.” 39 Ways, at page 9. MEHANNA authored a poem entitled “Make Martyrdom What You Seek.” ...

He spread praise for the individuals and glorified their military successes....(Step 12: “Praise the Mujahidin and Mention their Accounts and
Call the People to Follow in Their Footsteps.”)

“Follow and Spread the News of the Jihad” (Step 21)....

(Step 16: “Call and Incite the People to Jihad.”) 39 Ways, at page 28. As described above, MEHANNA (and ABOUSAMRA) encouraged others
(not just Maldonado)....

MEHANNA was a teacher who provided information to others who were less knowledgeable. In 39 Ways, the author directs the readers to “Advise the Muslims and the Mujahidin” (Step 17). The reader was also urged to “Speak Out
For the Mujahidin and Defend Them,” (Step 14)....

MEHANNA often criticized those in Muslim community who urged moderation or criticized the violent tactics of the mujahidin; MEHANNA was taking the step that urged him to “Expose the Hypocrites and Traitors” (Step 15). Similarly, he often
expressed true hatred for, for example, U.S. leaders and other “infidels.” (Step 31: “Have Enmity Towards the Disbelievers and Hate Them.”) ...

MEHANNA participated in message boards and other forums for discussions. His efforts were intended to “assist the Jihad on the internet.” 39 Ways, at page 45. (Step 34: “Electronic Jihad.”)...

As discussed above, MEHANNA was also constantly sharing speeches of al Qa’ida leaders in video, audio and text files, and other pro-jihadi media. He was thereby following Step 22, that directed him to “Participate in Spreading Their Releases of Books and Publications.” ...

MEHANNA took it a step further and created media projects - following the instructions “everyone should try and prepare some media projects regarding
Mujahidin and their affairs.”

This is Khadeeja Nuur (alt: Khadjia Noor?). She started the Facebook group in praise of the Fort Hood terrorist Nidal Hassan.

A few days ago I asked any one for information about her. I haven't heard anything substantial, but if you have any idea who she is let me know. All we know about her is that she is a fan of Islamist terror, she claims to work as a lobbyist in the DC area, and she hates the J-O-O-S.

Let me repeat: terror supporter who also claims to be a lobbyist.

Call me a paranoid right-wing fanatic, but I'm a bit uncomfortable with that.

* Really dangerous stuff consists of the empty gesture that Google made to the homeland security committee. Possibly the sickest thread I've ever seen on an Islamist forum. The thread begins with the re-upload of an old video showing Chechen terrorists beheading 9 Russian soldiers.

Beheading videos are bad enough -- and this one is typical, live victims slowly die while screaming --- but the commentary is utterly disgusting. Only one person raised a mild objection to it, with most of the others screaming God is great in reaction.

But this comment, I think, takes the cake:

"Yes, akhi (brother), it's the BEST beheading I ever saw. But I wish they could do some more torturing. THIS isn't enough :-) "

Filthy scum, I hope you die in like manner.

UPDATE: the three websites are now offline!

After sending numerous complaints to The Planet in Texas and Active Domain in Oregon yesterday two days ago, the Taliban are still receiving essential services from these companies. I presume pray the three websites in question will be taken down by The Planet and that Active Domain will remove privacy protection for the Taliban --- immediately.

A 19-year-old Jordanian citizen was arrested Thursday in a dramatic FBI sting operation after he parked a vehicle laden with government-supplied fake explosives at an iconic downtown Dallas skyscraper and attempted to detonate it, authorities said.

An undercover FBI agent monitoring an online extremist Web site discovered Hosam Maher Husein Smadi espousing jihad against the U.S. more than six months ago.

As more undercover Arabic-speaking agents engaged him, Smadi, living illegally in the U.S. in the small town of Italy, about 45 miles south of Dallas, pledged allegiance to Osama bin Laden and expressed a desire to kill Americans, authorities said.

In conversations with agents posing as members of an al-Qaeda sleeper cell, Smadi said he came to the U.S. to wage jihad, or holy war. He told agents he wanted to target military recruitment centers, but eventually settled on financial institutions.

"I want to destroy ... targets ... everything that helps America on its war on Arabs will be targeted," he told undercover agents in May.

You Losers wont mind if we bask in this for a few minutes.....

Shaking in our boots alert. If you haven't been following the recent eHadi vs. counter-eHadi wars, here's a synopsis.

Last year the forum most directly connected to al Qaeda -- al Ekhlaas -- went down right around September 11th. Ekhlaas claimed they took the site down voluntarily.

This year the successor forum most directly connected to al Qaeda -- al Follojah -- went down right around September 11th. Several other well connected forums, like al Qimmah, also went down.

Last week, right around September 11th, al Ekhlaas suddenly reappeared and al Follojah suddenly went down. But now al Follojah is back up. And they're none too happy about Ekhlaas coming back online. Even going so far as to claim that the newly reopened Ekhlaas was a spy operation.

Ekhlaas responded by claiming that GIMF and al Fajr were slandering them and that they had reopened on 9/11 on direct orders -- presumably from al Qaeda central.

You can see why I've been constantly eating popcorn over the past week. When eHadis attack eHadis nothing but fun ensues. Let them sow discord amongst themselves. It saves the taxpayers time and money.

GIMF then responded with a lengthy statement recounting how Western intelligence agencies have tried and failed to stop al Qaeda's various media efforts.

They're wrong. Western intelligence agencies have done nothing to stop them. Law enforcement has been more actively involved -- for instance, in the statement GIMF recognizes that several of its founding members are now in jail, including Mohammad Mahmoud (pictured above) -- but not nearly enough resources have been devoted to it in my estimation.

I won't post the whole statement, but let me just highlight this part from one translation:

On the 8th anniversary of 9/11 al Qaeda's online wing has decided to reopen its premier forum, al Ekhlaas. Speculation in the jihad community is that the "19" in the new URL refer to the 19 hijackers. The above banner announcing the return of the forum seems to confirm this.

Many of the other major forums with jihadi street cred remain offline today.

To celebrate this momentous occasion, SOFIR has re-released its report on al-Ekhlaas membership.

The UnjustMedia.Com, now on YouTube. The website is run by a bunch of traitors -- literally, traitors -- in Canada. The "report" is simply a compilation of statistics as published by the Taliban themselves at the al Somod website.

Notice the use of the term "terrorists" and "enemies" to describe NATO forces.

The numbers put forth by the Taliban are completely made up -- 3 planes downed? -- but the important thing, in my mind, is not the accuracy of the report it is the report itself. Here is a Canadian website using an American company -- Google, which owns YouTube -- to spread enemy propaganda during an actual shooting war.

Having dupes in the West willing to propagandize for the enemy is bad enough -- remember that at least one "Tokyo Rose" was convicted of treason after WWII (and at least her defense she had no choice in making anti-US propaganda; can the traitors at the Unjust Media make the same claim?) -- but to have a U.S. corporation facilitate this?

It seems to me that those with family members killed in Afghanistan have reasonable grounds for a lawsuit here.

Naji Hamdan is a 43 year old naturalized American citizen -- originally from Lebanon -- arrested in Dubai last year. His friends and family claim he has been tortured by authorities in the UAE. As with all terror suspects, his case has become a cause celebre with the Left.

Today it emerged what the specifics of the charges were against him:

promoting terrorism, participating in the work of a terrorist organisation and funding a terrorist organisation.

Details of the charges, all relating to alleged activity outside the UAE, emerged for the first time yesterday.

A lawyer for the State Security Public Prosecution told the court: “Naji Hamdan is directly linked to Ansar al-Sunna and al Qa’eda members through electronic communication.”

Expect more later.

PRISTINA, Kosovo (AP) - The editor of a Kosovo newspaper says he suspects that Islamist radicals attacked the paper's Web site because it reported on the trial of a Kosovo Albanian accused in the U.S. of plotting terrorist acts.

Berat Buzhala says the Web site of the daily Express was blocked for ten hours early Tuesday and hackers left a warning to "stop ridiculing" Islam. Buzhala says the incident has been reported to the authorities.
