US Dept of State.

The Department of State has designated Ansar al-Dine (AAD) as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) under Section 219 of the Immigration and Nationality Act and as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist entity under Executive Order (E.O.) 13224, which targets terrorists and those providing support to terrorists or acts of terrorism. As a result of the designation, U.S. persons are prohibited from knowingly providing material support or resources to AAD, and all property subject to U.S. jurisdiction in which AAD has any interest is blocked and U.S. persons are generally prohibited from engaging in transactions with the organization or to its benefit.

AAD has also been listed by the United Nations 1267/1989 al-Qa’ida Sanctions Committee. The UN listing requires all member states to implement an assets freeze, a travel ban, and an arms embargo against AAD. The UN action demonstrates international resolve to eliminate AAD’s violent activities in Mali and the surrounding region.

Ansar al-Dine is an organization operating in Mali which cooperates closely with al-Qa’ida in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), a designated Foreign Terrorist Organization. AAD was created in late 2011 after AAD’s leader, Iyad ag Ghali, failed in an attempt to take over a secular Tuareg organization due to his extremist views. Ghali was designated by the Department of State under E.O. 13224 on February 26, 2013.

AAD has received support from AQIM since its inception in late 2011, and continues to maintain close ties to the group. AAD has received backing from AQIM in its fight against Malian and French forces, most notably in the capture of the Malian towns of Agulhok, Tessalit, Kidal, Gao, and Timbuktu, between January and April 2012. In AAD’s March 2012 attack against the town of Aguelhok, the group executed 82 Malian soldiers and kidnapped 30 more. Before the French intervention in January 2013, Malian citizens in towns under AAD’s control who did not comply with AAD’s laws faced harassment, torture, or execution.

This is pretty messed up. Mostly this guy was exposed to the sickest of the sick: child pornography. He tells how all of Google's censors are contract employees and how none of them was ever picked up by the company.

I can kind of see that maybe Google has a point. The author tells about how he realized that after being exposed to up to 15k horrifying images a day that maybe he needed therapy.

Do you really think another ten years of that exposure is healthy?

But thrown in there is this, about the guy assigned to looking at al Qaeda videos:

But no one talks about it. Like the guy I knew at YouTube. He was the guy who knew everything about child porn, knew everything about beheadings. I worked with him very closely and every time a new video by Al Qaeda came up, he was the first guy to see it. He had to see it for everybody. But he was a contractor and they didn’t hire him. He has no idea why. His manager called the recruiters and said, do you have any idea what this guy does? They had no idea. If you’re a contractor, you’re just a name and a department.

But what's so revealing in this article is that it shows bad corporate practice on Google's part. Yes, Google should be held liable for any and all acts of terrorism in which at least part of the inspiration came through YouTube videos.

Perhaps having contractors rotate in and out might be good when it comes to kiddie porn. But you'd think that the same rule of mental health wouldn't apply to terrorist videos, the vast majority of which would be simple propaganda and not acts of horrific violence.

According to an article due to appear Monday in the Tageszeitung daily, an Islamist from Bonn in western Germany has appeared in a video on an Islamic forum in which he encouraged "the killing of all activists from the Pro NRW party".

Members of the small extreme-right political party held a campaign event using anti-Islamic caricatures ahead of an election in Germany's most populous state North Rhine-Westphalia on May 13.

In his appeal, the Islamist urged the collection of personal information on Pro NRW members, including their home addresses and work schedules, with the goal of attacking them.

Dailymotion is among the most prominent of these websites; videos produced by the media companies of Al-Qaeda and its affiliates inciting violent jihad and depicting violence are uploaded to the website on a daily basis[..]

Government Security News:

The Internet and social media are integral ingredients in the rapid radicalization of homegrown terrorists, said a staff study by the Senate homeland security committee that recommended a coordinated government response to counter online radical propaganda and help communities intervene in the radicalization process.

The report, released on Feb. 27 by the staff of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, was based on the close study of the personal writings of Zachary Chesser, the Bristow, VA man now serving a 25-year sentence for threatening the writers of the South Park television show, soliciting violent jihadists to desensitize law enforcement, and attempting to provide material support to Al-Shabaab.

The study also provides some unique detail into Chesser’s motivations and personality.

The Senate staff said Chesser’s case was a classic case study of how quickly online radicalization can occur compared to the traditional process of face to face contact between an aspirant and an established terrorist group.

Jawa report was not mentioned in the study, we were basically robbed. But we're getting really used to that ;)

So this starts out to be "interesting" then it gets a bit more interesting.

Here we have a person, a Muslim, engaged in activism and working to have content removed from Youtube. Content that was critical of his country extradition of a Muslim to face a possible death penalty in Saudi Arabia from apostasy. When someone spoke out against Islam he worked to silence them.

Now take a look at his little channel, "Caution: Scary Muslim At Work..."

Which brings us back to the Eric Allen Bell issue here. Given Asadullahali's history on Jihadtube, I find it highly unlikely that he failed to participate in the Media Matters type character assassination that Loonwatch carried out against Bell, including spreading his personal information around in a lame attempt to hurt Mr. Bell's personal security.

Two weeks ago, 24-year-old Pakistani-American Jubair Ahmad admitted that he had been making videos for Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) from his Woodbridge, Virginia home under the direction of LeT leader Hafiz Saeed's son Talha. Around the same time, governments on both sides of the Atlantic published findings into the link between online activity and terrorism. In the United Kingdom, the Home Office published a paper that concluded "the internet does not appear to play a significant role in AQIR [al Qaeda influenced radicalization]," while in the United States, at a hearing on the Hill, RAND terrorism guru Brian Michael Jenkins concluded that jihadist websites "may create virtual armies, but these armies remain virtual." But while the link between turning individuals from passive consumers into active terrorists may be weak, cases like that of Jubair Ahmad show the important role this virtual army can play in magnifying the message of al-Qaeda and affiliated groups.

Jubair Ahmed is not the first Western individual who has helped establish websites or created video content in support of radical groups. One of the earliest was U.K.-based www.azzam.com, established in 1996, which provided a point from which groups in Afghanistan and Chechnya could broadcast their message while also telling potential recruits how to contact the groups. In addition, www.azzam.com (using the moniker Azzam Publications) helped produce a series of videos and cassette tapes about the fighting in Bosnia and Chechnya that venerated fighters in the field.

News is starting to leak about the arrest this weekend of a New York City man who planned to bomb police and military facilities. The NY Post reports:

The NYPD and Manhattan DA’s office have arrested a terror suspect who was planning to bomb city police facilities and US military sites, where he plotted to target returning war personnel and the families who gathered to welcome them home, The Post has learned.

The suspect, who lives in Manhattan, was arrested after he actually purchased bomb-making materials, sources said. He’d been on the authorities’ radar for about a year, the sources said.

It wasn’t immediately clear exactly where he planned to attack.

We can report here exclusively at PJM that the man arrested is Jose Pimentel of Harlem. On his Facebook page he describes himself as:

Sept 21, I noticed the exact video, flagged it and YouTube removed it Now, youtube.com/user/islamians2020 was allowed to upload...again...the same video on Sept 22!
