If you're a Christian in Indonesia and defend yourself or defy a mob of Islamists chances are the police are going to side with the Islamists.

An embattled Indonesian church at the center of a long-running dispute with Indonesian authorities that has attracted headlines around the world, confirmed on Monday that one of its members has been named a suspect by police for alleged assault.

Bona Sigalingging, spokesman for the GKI Yasmin church in Bogor near Jakarta, told the Jakarta Globe that West Java Police had named Jayadi Damanik a suspect.

The charges relate to an incident in October last year when Bambang Budiyanto, the chief of the Bogor administration’s Public Order Agency (Satpol PP), was allegedly knocked unconscious during a confrontation with worshippers.

Well no, not according to the local Muslim authorities..

Bona said that the church had reported Bambang to police for using violence to obstruct a religious ceremony and Bogor Mayor Diani Budiarto for obstructing a religious service.

“Out of all of our reports to the police, West Java Police only followed up on one case,” Bona said, referring to the charges laid against Jayadi.

The GKI Yasmin church has been illegally sealed off by the Bogor city administration on the pretext that congregation leaders doctored a petition needed to obtain a building permit.

The church has been offered a new location and compensation, but so far it has refused to move.

Since 2008, the congregation has been forced to hold Sunday services on the sidewalk outside the church or in the homes of parishioners, in the face of continued protests and intimidation by Islamic hard-line groups.

Bogor Mayor Diani Budiarto has come under criticism for ignoring a 2010 Supreme Court order to lift a ban he placed on the church in 2008. He has insisted there were indications that the congregation falsified local residents’ signatures of support for the construction of the church.

Bona said the dispute is no longer a local matter, given the mayor’s defiance of the rule of law.

“In fact, [Diani] has let radical intolerant groups intimidate the congregation repeatedly, with increasing intensity,” Bona said.

In an unexpected conclusion to a controversial two-year trial, a Malaysian court Monday acquitted opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim on sodomy charges, ruling that the DNA evidence submitted by the prosecution was unreliable.

Sodomy, even between consenting adults, is illegal in Muslim-majority Malaysia although few people are prosecuted. Anwar, who faced up to 20 years in prison for allegedly having sex with a former aide, has repeatedly maintained his innocence, terming the charges politically motivated.

Indonesian publisher introduces a new comic book hero - an ex-terrorist:

The real life adventures of former al-Qaeda-linked terrorist Nasir Abas have become a new comic book in Indonesia depicting him as a militant villain who transforms into an invaluable ally in the fight against terrorism.

The story of the soft-spoken 42-year-old is well-known in Indonesia. He went from helping train Muslim militants who carried out the deadly Bali bombings in 2002 to informing police about the inner-workings of the Jemaah Islamiyah terror network.

He's also joined a government program to convince convicted terrorists that killing unarmed civilians is wrong.

Abas says he hopes the colorful comic by a nonprofit publisher, titled "I Found the Meaning of Jihad," will help teach children not to make the same mistakes he did.

Indonesian Islamic scholars had mixed reactions to criticism launched by Western nations of the apparent light sentences handed down to Islamist extremists who killed members of the Ahmadiyah sect in Cikeusik, Banten.

The district court in Serang, Banten’s capital on Thursday handed down jail sentences of between three and six months for all 12 defendants[...]

Three Ahmadis died in the videotaped attack while five others were seriously injured. The attack allegedly involved some 1,500 Islamist militants and about 20 Ahmadiyah members[Emphasis mine..ed]

But Slamet Effendy Yusuf, of the Indonesian Council of Ulema (MUI), criticized Western nations for only seeing the verdict from their own perspectives.

“Western countries must respect another country’s judiciary system based on its own cultural and philosophical background,” Slamet said.

He pointed out that Anders Behring Breivik, the man charged with killing 76 people in terror attacks on July 22, would face harsher penalties in Indonesia[Emphasis mine]

Ooops

JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) — A man reportedly trying to show students how to make explosives was killed by a homemade bomb inside an Islamic boarding school in Indonesia, police said Tuesday.

School officials and students have prevented police from entering the building since Monday's explosion, local police spokesman Lt. Col. Sukarman Husen said.

But they discovered the body of the suspected bomb maker, a 30-year-old man identified only as Firdaus, on a bus Tuesday as it tried to leave the school compound, he said.

Eleven people have been taken in for questioning, Husen said, adding that police also confiscated a number of arrows and machetes.

Husen said the bombing victim was a treasurer at the school, but media reports alleged he was a former bomb trainee in the Philippine region of Mindanao.

An Indonesian court on Thursday jailed radical Islamist cleric Abu Bakar Bashir for 15 years for funding a terrorist group that was planning attacks against Westerners and political leaders.

For his part Bashir denies the very existence of the al Qaeda affiliated Jemaah Islamiyah -- which he is the spiritual leader of -- claiming it, like 9/11, is just a CIA plot to make Muslims look bad. Which reminds me of that scene in The Godfather (II?) where Michael Corleone denies the existence of la cosa nostra to the House Committee on Organized Crime. It's all just a plot to make Italians look bad.

Of course, this same Bashir also openly calls for an infidel free Indonesia. So, that doesn't make Muslims look bad at all.

JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) —Terror suspects arrested Thursday led police to a 150-kilogram (330-pound) bomb buried beneath a gas pipeline near a church just outside Indonesia’s capital, officials said.

Senior security minister Djoko Suyanto said he believed Islamic militants had been plotting an attack ahead of Easter celebrations, and the U.S. embassy urged Americans to be vigilant.

“The army and police are under high alert,” he told reporters, adding that troops would be deployed at churches and other strategic locations. “We want to guarantee safety.”

A suicide bomber blew himself up today at Taka mosque located in the police headquarters in Ciberon (West Java) a town about 300 km from Jakarta. The toll is about 28 wounded, including several policemen. The suicide bombing is the first in the country's history and took place shortly before the usual Friday prayers, while the faithful were gathering inside the building. According to authorities the attack was organized by a group of Islamic terrorists in revenge for the recent anti-terrorism operations carried out by the police.

Umar Patek, 40, the deputy commander of al-Qa'ida's Southeast Asian affiliate Jemaah Islamiah, is believed to have been arrested in Pakistan last month by local intelligence agents acting on a CIA tip-off.

Indonesian police chief Lieutenant General Ito Sumardi said he believed Patek, the subject of a $US1 million bounty offered by the American government, travelled on a commercial flight to Pakistan via Bangkok on a passport using a false name.

General Sumardi said information indicated he was arrested with other al-Qa'ida suspects and was not the target of the raid.[Emphasis mine..ed]

But questions remain over what Patek was doing in Pakistan, which continues to attract foreign militants seeking contact with al-Qa'ida leaders based there, particularly in lawless tribal areas near the Afghan border.

Pakistani intelligence agents on Wednesday confirmed he had been arrested and was being held for questioning. "The CIA tipped us off that he might be travelling here," one official said,....

Umar Patek, a suspected member of the al-Qaida linked militant group Jemaah Islamiyah, is believed to have served as the group's deputy field commander in the nightclub bombings that left 202 people dead, many of them foreigners.

The U.S., which lost seven citizens in the attack, was offering a $1 million reward for his arrest.

Two intelligence officials — one in Indonesia and the other in the Philippines — said Tuesday that Patek was taken into custody in Pakistan earlier this year. They both spoke on condition of anonymity, citing the sensitivity of the information.

The question of what to do with Patek could be an indicator of how U.S. President Barack Obama wants to handle major terrorist suspects captured abroad.

Before the trial started today Bashir condemned the proceedings with the quote in the headlines. But his other antics today speak volumes as to Bashir's intentions to turn the trial into a platform where he can reinforce his narrative that he and other terrorists like him are really just the victims of a global anti-Muslim conspiracy. JAKARTA - THE trial of one of Indonesia's top terrorism suspects has opened in the capital.

Abdullah Sunata is accused of setting up a terrorist cell of Muslim militants with ties to the Middle East and the Philippines.

Prosecutors say he also helped set up a jihadi training camp in western most Aceh province to prepare for high profile assassinations and attacks targeting Western hotels and embassies in Jakarta.

Sunata was arrestd in June and faces a maximum penalty of death if convicted of violating anti-terrorism laws.

(Jakarta, Indonesia) Yesterday, an estimated 2,000 Indonesian Muslims protested this week's visit by President Obama. They marched from the State Palace to the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta.

Protesters from the radical group Hizbut Tahrir shouted 'Obama Comes, We Crush' and 'Reject Obama' outside the state palace and the US embassy.

They brandished posters bearing his picture and banners with slogans such as 'Do not add to Indonesia's grief'.

'President Barack Obama until today has continued to colonise Muslim countries like Iraq and Afghanistan and kill our brothers there.

As such, we will not accept him as a guest,' Hizbut Tahrir spokesman Mohammed Ismail Yusanto told AFP.

(Jakarta, Indonesia) On Wednesday of this week, the Indonesian Police Densus 88 Anti-Terror Unit captured the country's most-wanted terrorist, Abdullah Sunata aka Sonata, in Central Java.

The arrest reportedly foiled two planned terror attacks, one at the Police Anniversary Day ceremonies on July 1st and one at the Royal Danish Embassy to retaliate for Muhammad cartoons.

Sonata, a close associate of slain terrorist mastermind Noordin M Top, was sentenced to seven years in jail in 2006 for hiding Noordin and for possessing illegal firearms. He was released in April 2009 on good behavior.

Sonata and another suspect arrested on Wednesday, Sogir, have been linked to a terrorist network based at a training camp in Aceh, which police have been targeting since February.

The Aceh network was comprised of militants from several groups with links to the Middle East and the southern Philippines. The camp was being used to prepare for Mumbai-style assaults on Indonesian targets, police said.

The pair was arrested in raids in and around Klaten, Central Java, by Densus 88. A third suspect, Yuli Harsono, was killed by officers during the operation.

BANDA ACEH, Indonesia – Indonesian police raided a home used by suspected terrorists Monday in the far western province of Aceh, fatally shooting a man allegedly involved in the beheadings of three Christian girls.

Two other suspects were arrested at the house in Cot Irie village on the outskirts of Banda Aceh, said Col. Esa Permadi, chief detective of Aceh police. Interrogations of the men led to another raid in which two more suspects were detained, he said.

The men are allegedly members of al-Qaida in Aceh, a splinter of Jemaah Islamiyah, the Southeast Asian offshoot of al-Qaida blamed for deadly bombings in Indonesia in recent years.

Facebook group Penulis Jihadi[No, not "dick" Joey] Translated Jihadi Authors (Indonesian) Nasty group who really heart OBL(see his image below). I noticed a image type advertisement of hoodies for sale which shows the alQaeda logo with "Daulah Islam" (Islamic State) which relates to a Southeast Asian militant Islamic organization "Jemaah Islamiah". That group was added to the list of terrorist organizations linked to alQaeda by UN Security Council Resolution 1267 on October 25, 2002.

Regular readers will know this group by the Bali, Marriot Hotel & Jakarta Embassy bombings. They also heart beheading, especially Christian girls.

(Jakarta, Indonesia) Outside the Indonesian Parliament yesterday, angry students threw shoes at an image of President Obama. The students were reportedly protesting Obama's "war on Muslims."

Dozens of activists grouped under the Campus Islamic Proselytization Institute Coordinating Board rallied outside the Serang regency legislative council building on Friday to oppose Obama's visit (scheduled for March 20-22).

"We reject Obama's planned visit to Indonesia, which will bring no advantages to predominantly Muslim Indonesia," group coordinator Ahmad Kardi said as quoted by Antara.

Ahmad warned the nation against offers of cooperation from Obama, which he said would eventually benefit the US at Indonesia's expense.

"Warned the nation" about cooperating with Obama, eh?

(Jakarta, Indonesia) The mastermind of the Bali bombings and other terror attacks in Indonesia, Noordin M. Top, is reportedly dead, killed during a raid last night in Solo, Central Java.

According to Indonesian National Police Chief Bambang Hendarso Danuri, Noordin's identity was confirmed through fingerprints.

Police stormed a house on the outskirts of the city at around 7:00 a.m. after a nine-hour siege. Solo is a longtime stronghold of the Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) radical network.

Three other terror suspects were killed and three arrested in the raid. Also among the dead is Bagus Budi Pranoto or Urwah, a man wanted by police in connection with the July hotel bombings in Jakarta.

The other two killed in the raid were Hadi Susilo and Aryo Sudarsono, alias Aji. [...]

"We warned them to surrender but they didn't obey," said Bambang. "Since we knew there were dangerous people inside, we had to take strong action."

During the raid, police acquired two laptops and documents, which they said confirm that all four terrorists who were killed during the raid comprised the leadership of al Qaeda in Southeast Asia. Police chief Bambang Hendarso Danuri suggested in a press conference today that the documents picked up in Solo show that they wiped out most of al Qaeda in Southeast Asia's senior leadership in this raid.

Wanted terrorists Bagus Budi Pranoto, Ario Sudarso, and Hadi Susilo were killed with Top, Metro TV reported.

The owner of a radical Islamist website who calls himself the "Prince of Jihad" in his blog postings has been arrested in connection with the Jakarta hotel bombings, police and a lawyer said Wednesday.

Counter-terror squad officers arrested Muhamad Jibril Abdurahman, alias Muhamad Ricky Ardan bin Mohammad Iqbal, near Jakarta late Tuesday and also raided the office of his website, Arrahmah.com, a police spokesman said.

Police believe the Pakistan-educated suspect helped channel funds from abroad to finance the July 17 twin suicide bombings on the JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotels that killed nine people, including six foreigners....

"Jihad and terrorism are not something to be afraid of or avoided, because to cause terror to Allah's enemies is the instruction of Islam," said an article by the "Prince of Jihad" which appeared on both websites after the July 17 attacks.

INDONESIAN authorities are expected to reveal this morning that the man gunned down in a counter-terrorism raid over the weekend was Ibrahim, a florist who worked at the Ritz-Carlton and JW Marriott hotels.

Those hopes were dashed once the body was hauled from an isolated farmhouse and family members of the Malaysian-born terrorist were shown photographs of the body and said it wasn't him.

Awaiting DNA testing but there arereports one of the worlds most dangerous terrorists(Noordin Mohammad Top) has been killed hiding in the loo.

BEJI, Indonesia (AP) - Southeast Asia's most wanted terror suspect was reportedly killed during a 16-hour siege on a suspected militant hide-out that ended Saturday when police stormed the house.
Local TV stations reported militant chief Noordin Mohammad Top, who is blamed for last month's attacks on two American hotels in the capital, Jakarta, was killed in the bathroom of the house in a rice-growing village in central Java province following a lengthy bomb and gun battle.

Those reports were not confirmed by police. DNA tests will likely have to be performed to ensure the identification.

Noordin Mohammed Top, Asia's most wanted terrorist, committed suicide after a 12-hour standoff with Indonesian police in a remote farm house in Central Java.

Police made visual confirmation of Top through cameras attached to remote control robots that were deployed into the house and watched as he fled into a bathroom and, surrounded by a woman and three children, blew himself up, Metro TV reported. The explosion occurred at 8 am Saturday local-time (9 pm EDT Friday) and was carried on live television.

JAKARTA: Indonesian police are investigating a message posted on two radical Muslim websites, supposedly by wanted terrorist leader Noordin Top, who said his group was behind the recent suicide bombings at two Jakarta hotels...

It was signed off by Noordin Top, with the title of 'emir of Tandzim Al Qaeda Indonesia', a breakaway faction of the Jemaah Islamiah (JI) militant group.

The message said that a meeting hosted by American businessman James Castle at the Marriott was targeted specifically because its participants represented companies that exploited Indonesia's resources, the profits of which go towards helping 'infidel American soldiers' fight Muslims.

The Ritz-Carlton bombing, it added, was intended as a reminder to Indonesians not to idolise[sic] the Manchester United footballers, which it described as crusaders unfit for the respect of Muslims.

(Magetan, East Java, Indonesia) A C-130 military transport plane carrying troops and families crashed into residences and burst into flames yesterday on approach to an air force base.

The plane was carrying at least 109 passengers and crew when it went down in Geplak, a village 520 kilometers east of Jakarta, including troops and their families. At least 10 children were among them.

At least 98 people were killed, including two on the ground, and 15 others survived, said Bambang Samudro, chief of the military air base in Magetan. Many of the injured suffered severe burns.

The country’s air force, long underfunded and handicapped by a recently lifted US ban on weapons sales, has suffered a series of accidents, including a Fokker 27 plane that crashed into an airport hangar last month, killing all 24 onboard.

(Jakarta, Indonesia) Strangely, it appears that Muslims in Indonesia haven't received the hopey-changey memo. Earlier today, about 100 Muslims protested SecState Hillary Clinton's visit later this week.

Black-and-white-clad members of the radical Hizbut Tahrir movement, or HTI, chanted "Allahu Akbar," meaning "God is greater," in front of the U.S. Embassy in the capital city of Jakarta and called on Muslims to reject the visit of the newly-appointed top U.S. diplomat.

HTI spokesman Farid Wajdji told reporters the new administration of U.S. President Barack Obama continues to oppress Muslims worldwide, despite pledges of greater "mutual respect" between the United States and the Muslim world.

"Indonesia and its Muslim leaders shouldn't be enticed by Hillary Clinton's arrival. Her flattery of Indonesia as a moderate Muslim nation is part of the superpower's divide-and-rule politics," Wajdji said.

By the way, if there is some sort of divide and rule policy in place regarding Indonesia, I confess total ignorance.

Be wary of drums and animal skins imported from Republic of New Guinea.
It has taken 3 years to launch a inquiry into the deaths.

Christopher 'Pascal' Norris, 50, an artist and woodworker from the Borders, died on July 8, 2006 a few days after attending a drumming workshop run by teacher Geraldine Keita in Kelso.

His death was the first death from anthrax in the UK in more than 30 years.

The FAI, at Edinburgh Sheriff Court, heard that a dun dun and a djembe drum owned by drumming teacher Mrs Keita tested positive for anthrax.

The dun dun was used at a workshop in Kelso which Mr Norris attended on the Sunday before he died.

Asked whether Mr Norris played the instrument himself, Mrs Keita said she could not remember as he had his own drum with him that day.

He also attended a drumming class in Smailholm on Tuesday, July 4.

Mrs Keita, 34, told the inquiry that she had imported a number of drums from the Republic of Guinea, a country she visited in 2004.

Sheriff Principal Edward Bowen QC asked: "Did it ever cross your mind that there might be health risks regarding imports from that country?"

She replied: "I had not thought deeply about the specific risks associated with what I was doing."

Traces of anthrax have been found at a workshop belonging to a musician who died after contracting the disease.

Meanwhile, it is believed another man, Fernando Gomez, died in Homerton University Hospital, London, on November 2 after breathing in anthrax spores while using imported animal skins to make drums.

(Jakarta, Indonesia) The murdering scum Bali bombers, Amrozi, Mukhlas and Imam Samudra, have exhausted all avenues, presumably, for appeal of their convictions and are set to be executed before the start of Ramadan on September 1st.

Security has been heightened at the Nusakambangan Island prison in West Java and sea traffic is being monitored. Fishermen and fishing have been banned in the island's vicinity.

A last ditch non-procedural effort by the terrorists' lawyers claims that execution by firing squad, customary in Indonesia, is torture. The three express a desire to have their heads lopped instead. (more)

A group of ten people have been arrested by Indonesian authorities. They are all members of the group Jemaah Islamiyah

Via The Telegraph: Ten men were arrested in a series of raids beginning at the weekend in which 22 bombs were also discovered. They are allegedly members of Jemaah Islamiyah, which wants to create an Islamic caliphate in south-east Asia.

The police have not revealed what the group was allegedly planning. But officials briefed journalists in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, that there was a Western target in the city.

The attacks were apparently set to go and were to target westerners.
