Jaish-e-Mohammad Safe Haven in Pakistan Bombed

Well looks like India is fed up and Pakistan is a paper tiger.

The Indian government has retaliated for the deadly Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) suicide attack that killed 40 soldiers in the state of Jammu and Kashmir nearly two weeks ago. Today, the Indian Air Force launched a raid against a JeM camp in Balakot inside Pakistan, killing scores of jihadists. The Pakistani government is denying the raid took place.

Indian warplanes attacked “the biggest training camp of JeM in Balakot,” according to a statement released by the embassy in Washington, DC. The statement is attributed to Shri Vijay Gokhale, India’s Foreign Secretary.

“In this operation, a very large number of JeM terrorists, trainers, senior commanders and groups of jihadis who were being trained for fidayeen action [suicide attacks] were eliminated,” it continued.

Indian press reports indicate that 12 Mirage 2000 strike aircrafts crossed the Line of Control early in the morning and struck the camp. Pakistani F-16s scrambled to intercept but did not engage, according to DNA India. Indian officials estimate that between 200 and 300 JeM members were killed in the operation.

Gokhale described the operation as a “preemptive strike” that “became absolutely necessary” as JeM was plotting further suicide operations.

I wouldn;'t worry, I mean what's the worst that could happen?

Oh, well I mean what's a short nuclear winter or two?

Fourth Blogger Murdered in Progressive Secular Muslim Nation of Bangladesh

It seems that Bangladesh is becoming a bit move BangleDaesh every day.

A Bangladeshi blogger known for his atheist views has been hacked to death by a gang armed with machetes in the capital Dhaka, police say.

Niloy Neel was attacked at his home in the city's Goran area.

He is the fourth secularist blogger to have been killed this year by suspected Islamist militants in Bangladesh.

Imran H Sarkar, head of the Bangladesh Blogger and Activist Network, told the BBC that Mr Neel had been an anti-extremist voice of reason.

"He was the voice against fundamentalism and extremism and was even a voice for minority rights - especially women's rights and the rights of indigenous people," he said.

There is an image of the scene here.

A claim of responsibility was made by al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) a ground started in one of the last statement from Zawahiri to direct terrorist acts in India.

Site Intel: laim Regarding the Assassination of the Blasphemer Niloy Neel

"Indeed, those who abuse Allah and His Messenger - Allah has cursed them in this world and the Hereafter and prepared for them a humiliating punishment" - Sura Ahzab, 57

Alhamdulillah! Mujahidin of Ansar-Al-Islam (AQIS, Bangladesh Branch) carried out an operation to slaughter an enemy of Allah (swt) and His Messenger (peace & blessings be upon upon), whose name is Niloy Chowdhury Neel.

By the permission of Allah (swt) this operation took place today (7th August, 2015) at 1:45 PM at Khilgaon! Alhamdulillah.

We, al-Qaeda in the Indian Sub-Continent, claim responsibility for this operation as vengeance for the honor of the messenger of Allah (pbuh).

And, we declare war against these worst enemies of Allah (swt) and His messenger (pbuh). We will apply all our effort to destroy them along with their allies Insha'Allah.

Alhamdulillah! This operation has healed the hearts of Muslims and the righteous scholars of this land. And the hearts of hypocrites and disbelievers are burning with rage.

O Muslims Ummah! we assure you that, as long as blood flows in the veins of your sons, these kinds of enemies of Allah (swt) and His messenger (pbuh) will be attacked by us insha'Allah.

O! Enemies of Allah and His messenger, Wait for us! For we are coming towards you.

If your "Freedom of Speech" maintains no limits, then widen your chests for "Freedom of our Machetes".

Abandoned Pakistani boat found off Gujarat coast

I've been watching this unfold for the past few days could we be on the verge of another Mumbai...would they be that crazy for a replay?

NEW DELHI: Around a fortnight before a suspect Pakistani boat blew itself up after an hour-long chase by Indian Coast Guard, a mysterious fishing boat found abandoned off the Gujarat coast had created a ripple within the intelligence establishment.

According to intelligence sources, the alleged Pakistani fishing boat was found empty 10-15 days back, floating in the Arabian Sea off the Gujarat coastline. Not only were there no men on board, but no item of interest or equipment was found on the vessel, making agencies wary if it was abandoned by a group of infiltrating terrorists before they shifted to another vessel and possibly made their way to the Indian coast for a possible terror act here.

"The Coast Guard as well as states like Gujarat and Maharashtra were alerted to keep an eye in the Indian waters as well as along the coastline, and track any suspicious movement," said an official

Worth keeping an eye on.

Just a Reminder that Not all of Pakistan's Problems Can be Blamed on Islam

A reminder to the 'phobes. And I mean it, there really are Islamophobes out there. I just think they are much more rare than is alleged. Like racists, they exist but you can't blame every bad thing that happens on racism. Or sexism. Or partriarchy. Or capitalism. Or whatever.

A theory that posits a single causal variable for all outcomes isn't a theory: it's a worldview.

So, the idea that Islam is the cause of all misery in Muslim country just doesn't hold up to scientific scrutiny. Neither does the idea that all criticisms of Islamism are just so much phobia. Phobes!

Now, this isn't to say that certain versions of Islam aren't related to whatever bad thing you are looking at, or that it is one of a number of causal factors, or that in certain instances it is the primary cause, but only if we are talking about specific negative consequences in specific context.

Case in point: In neighboring India gang rape is a serious and widespread problem. And it's not Islamic mysogeny that is to blame. Sure, Muslims are 25% of the total population, but here we have a couple of Hindu girls gang raped and murdered by a bunch of Hindu guys.

I don't know what the cause of this phenomenon in India is. Perhaps it goes back to the old caste system. The girls here were of the "untouchable" class. Perhaps it has something to do with some other cultural factors in India I don't know about. I've no idea. But you know what I do know? That Islam isn't to blame.

Here's the pretty horrible story:

Indian police have arrested one man and are looking for four other suspects after two teenage girls were gang-raped and then hanged from a tree in a village in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh.

The two cousins, who were from a low-caste Dalit community and aged 14 and 15, went missing from their village home in Uttar Pradesh’s Budaun district when they went out to go to the toilet on Tuesday evening.

The following morning, villagers found the bodies of the two teenagers hanging from a mango tree in a nearby orchard.

I just wanted to throw this out there because sometimes when we see honor killings or the mistreatment of women in Islamic countries the immediate reaction is to point to something in the sharia, but when we see it happen in other countries we blame in on culture or something else. The point being that bad stuff happens in every country, and when that bad stuff happens we can't blame Islam. But when the same bad stuff happens in Muslim countries we need to be cautious about pointing to some Islamic doctrine as the cause.

I'm not saying certain Islamic or sharia principles never are to blame (at least, partially), just that when your default position is always the same you've kind of lost your credibility. Somewhere between blaming Islam for everything, and claiming that certain strands of Islam are never to be blamed lies the truth.

And the reason that comparing social ills in Pakistan to social ills in India are valid comparisons is that the two are essentially the same nation with an arbitrary border separating them.

Islamists Bomb Hindu Political Rally, 6 Dead

I'm shocked! Shocked, I say:

An Islamist militant group is believed to be behind an attack on a rally by Indian Hindu nationalist politician Narendra Modi that killed six people and wounded more than 80, police said on Tuesday.....

Seven crude bombs went off on Sunday in Bihar state as Modi’s supporters gathered for his rally. He was not near any of the blasts and delivered his speech despite the attack.

Say hello to Yasin Bhatka, the head of the Indian Mujahideen. Now say goodbye to his cornhole:

Police in India have arrested Yasin Bhatkal, the alleged head of the Indian Mujahideen (IM) militant group, which has been blamed for a string of recent attacks, officials say.

The group is thought to be behind deadly blasts in the cities of Pune, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Delhi....

His real name is believed to be Muhammad Ahmed Zarrar Siddibappa, but he uses a number of aliases, officials say.

Buddhists Attack Mosque in Sri Lanka

Yes, Muslims are sometimes the victims of violence from non-Muslims. Sometimes:

A Buddhist mob attacked a mosque in Sri Lanka's capital and at least 12 people were injured, the latest in a series of attacks on the minority Muslim community by members of the Buddhist majority.

A mob of Buddhists, who are mainly ethnic Sinhalese in Sri Lanka, threw stones at a three-storey mosque and nearby houses in a central Colombo neighborhood during evening prayers on Saturday, residents told Reuters.

Of course, given the long history of violence between Buddhists and Hindus in Sri Lanka it seemed kind of inevitable that Muslims would get thrown into the mix at some point. Thanks to Lou Stouch

Bike Bombs Kill 13, Injures 80 in India

Terror returned to Hyderabad after five years — with two massive explosions triggered by tiffin-carrier bombs planted on cycles in the crowded Dilsukhnagar locality, leaving 13 people dead and more than 80 injured.
A tiffin-carrier is like an old fashioned lunch box. It looks kind of like a large thermos, but inside are different little containers for different food items.

So, the bombs don't seem like they could have been that big. It was crowd size and location that led to so many fatalities.

Just how bad has India had it?

This is the 11th terror strike in India since the November 26, 2008 attack in Mumbai. Altogether, 60 people were killed in these attacks across five cities. The last terror attack in Hyderabad in August 2007 had killed 44.
That's 11 just in the past 5 years.

Our prayers are with the Indians.

MUMBAI: The Mumbai police has sounded a high alert after the control room received calls claiming that six terrorists have sneaked into the city and may carry out a major attack at Juhu Chowpatty or Bandra Bandstand on Valentine's Day[...]

"The Pakistani terrorist outfit, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), has given an open threat after the hanging of Pakistani terrorist Ajmal Kasab; now there is the Afzal Guru case," said a senior police official. Jamaat-ud-Dawaa and LeT chief Hafiz Saeed, accused mastermind of the 26/11 attacks, delivered threats in Pakistan and strongly protested after Guru's execution, claiming it amounted to "judicial terrorism".[More...]

Tuesday's Sexual Health News: "18 Again" Virginity Cream...

18 again.jpg

Virginity cream sparks Indian sex debate

An Indian company has launched what it claims is the country's first vagina tightening cream, saying it will make women feel "like a virgin" again. The company says it is about empowering women, but critics say it is doing the opposite. The BBC's Rajini Vaidyanathan in Mumbai reports.

It is certainly a bold claim. As the music starts playing on the advertisement for the 18 Again cream, a sari-clad woman is singing and dancing.

It is an unusual take on Bollywood.

"I feel like a virgin," she croons, although the advert makes it clear she is not.

Her shocked in-laws look on, before her husband joins her for some salsa-style dancing.

"Feels like the very first time," she continues, as she is twirled around.

Cut away to her mother-in-law who begins by responding with a disgusted look on her face, but by the end of the advert even she has been won over, and is seen buying the product online.

Word is Xariif tried it on himself, hilarity ensued.

Where's the beef tweezers?

Fake Texts Causes Mass Panic in India

India is accusing Pakistan of orchestrating mass panic among migrants who fled Muslim/Hindu - Muslim/not-the-right-kind-of-Muslim conflicts. Apparently mass texts were sent around showing images of dead bodies claiming that Muslim were going to kill the immigrants for (insert grievance of the day here). and although the entire thing was a hoax, apparently people took the threat seriously enough that it caused mass panic and migration:

A day earlier the ministry's second-ranking official said doctored images of bodies had been messaged to thousands of migrants from India's north-east living in big cities further south, including Chennai, Mumbai, Pune and Bangalore.

Authorities said misleading text messages and other social media began circulating last week with warnings that Muslims would attack students and migrants from the north-east.

Tens of thousands of people hurriedly boarded overcrowded trains to return to their home region as Indian leaders pleaded for calm and the government banned bulk mobile texting.

Those fleeing feared reprisals stemming from ethnic clashes in the north-eastern state of Assam in the past few months, which have killed 77 people and displaced more than 400,000

Report: Al Qaeda Trained Mumbai Attackers

Apparently, the attack would have been a lot a lot worse, my gawd.

Had all the 25 militants completed the training and made it to Mumbai the carnage would have been much worse," a senior Indian official told the Deccan Chronicle.
This is an update on my prior post: Key Mumbai Plotter Arrested in Saudi Arabia

Via the LWJ[Image credit also]

Sayed Zabiuddin Ansari, the alleged facilitator of the 2008 terrorist attacks in Mumbai, has proven to be a "treasure trove of information" for Indian investigators, according to new reports in the Indian press. Ansari has reportedly revealed that al Qaeda was tasked with training the Mumbai attackers in a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) training camp close to the Pakistan-Iran border.

It is not entirely clear where the camp was located, as Ansari has been unable to pinpoint its location for investigators. But according to at least one article, the LeT camp was inside Afghanistan. LeT terrorists are known to operate in both Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Ansari (a.k.a. Abu Jundal) was captured inside Saudi Arabia and then transferred to Indian custody in June. [See LWJ report, Key Mumbai plotter arrested in Saudi Arabia.]

The Deccan Chronicle reports that Ansari's interrogation reports say he has explained that there is a "great degree of coordination now between Lashkar, Al Qaeda and even the Taliban."

You can also add Pakistan's ISI's cooperation to the group as I noted in my prior post and further stated in LWJ's article above.

Interestingly, I like to communicate, via Twitter, with terror supporters. He/she/it has this to say about Abu Jundal:

US Admits Special Forces in India

Take that, you Pakistani bastards:

The US maintains special forces' teams in India to train Indian forces in counter-terrorism, specifically against Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), evoking sharp reaction from CPI that why the government kept it under wraps and Parliament was not taken into confidence in the matter.

Admitting this for the first time, chief of US' Pacific Command (PACOM) Robert Willard told a Congressional hearing that both Washington and New Delhi were working closely against the threat of terrorism from LeT.

Like I've been saying for years: we don't need to commit ground troops in the coming conflict with Pakistan, the Indians have plenty of manpower to undertake that task.

Hizb ut-Tahrir Inspired Coup Foiled in Bangladesh

I know what you're saying, "Sheikh" Hassina, so how moderate can the government be? But in this case Sheikh is a name, not a title. And it's a she.

So, now you know one of the reasons the allegedly "moderate" Hisb ut-Tahrir wanted her gone:

Up to sixteen serving and retired army officers with "extreme religious views", with the backing of supporters overseas, were planning to overthrow the government of Sheikh Hasina.
The "oversees forces" are alleged to be the former leader of the now banned Bangladeshi Hizb ut-Tahrir party.

And the way the plot was allegedly instigated? Through the internet.

There's a facebook page here dedicated to bringing about the coup, and a Wordpress blog here. Appparently, Hizb ut-Tahrir printed out flyers based on the allegations on those two web pages and distributed them around hoping to instigate support for the coup.

How do you say FAIL in Bengali?

Great: Wife of Man Tied to Mumbai Massacre Warned US Her Husband was Terrorist, US Ignored

David Headley of Chicago helped plan India's 9/11

This is pretty damning stuff, especially after we learned that the father of the Christmas Day underwear bomber had also dropped the dime on his son. Now, let's grant that we are only hearing her side of the story. She has no idea what the US did with the information she gave us.

Was she simply ignored, as she believes? Or was the information passed on, like that of the Christmas Day bomber's, but someone typed his name wrong into the system so he wasn't on the no flight list?

Or, was he on the no-fly list -- which isn't really a no-fly list at all, but rather is a list which simply puts certain people under greater security scrutiny -- but he just didn't raise any red flags? Remember, David Headley's "weapon" in the Mumbai massacre was a cell phone with GPS and a camcorder. Neither of which would raise much suspicion.

But while liberal civil liberties groups and Islamist propagandists are fast hoodwinking the MSM into forwarding a narrative in which far too many Muslims are being watched by law enforcement as a result of Islamophobic training, the Headley case is evidence that the opposite may, in fact, be the truth: out of fear of being called Islamophobes and appearing biased against Muslims, law enforcement may not be surveilling enough of these potential threats.

In this case, that failure may have led to the deaths of 164 innocent people.

Let's hope we've learned our lesson and adjusted things in the past three years.

WLS Chicago:

[T]he woman married to David Headley, the Chicago terrorist who helped plot a deadly attack on Mumbai, India three years ago, says she went to authorities after becoming suspicious of her husband....

Then she claims to have come to the American embassy in Islamabad with the same warning: her husband was helping to plot a terrorist attack...

"I went to U.S. authorities to help me out but then, they were like looking at me, oh, you are not a U.S. citizen and he is an American and we've got nothing to do with him. I was like shocked so I started saying, 'is he working with you, you are defending him,'" she said.

Headley is actually married to two women, as is allowed under Islamic law. No word on whether or not the other wife thinks of Headley as a monster, or as a mujahideen.

Pakistan's Main Export to India: Indian Domestic Terrorism

Relevant given the recent second bombing of Mumbai.

Pajamas Media:

Urban terrorism in India has become synonymous with a group calling itself Indian Mujahedeen (IM) that claimed responsibility for at least four blasts this year. Added to its attacks in Jaipur, Ahmedabad, and New Delhi, the latest target seems to be Mumbai on July 13.

Police believe that improvised explosive devices (IED) were used to trigger the blasts which coincided with the birthday of Ajmal Kasab, the lone Pakistani gunman in the 2008 Mumbai attack, an operation for which he has been sentenced to death. The latest terror attack, which claimed about 20 lives, comes only hours after two other suspected Indian Mujahedeen operatives, who provided vehicles used in the 2008 serial blasts in Gujarat that killed 56 people, were arrested in a Mumbai suburb by the Maharashtra Anti-Terror Squad (ATS).

Indian analysts believe that the IM emerged from militant elements in the Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) supported by the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Bangladesh-based Harkat-ul-Jihad-Islami (HUJI-B). SIMI and IM endorse the goals of Osama bin Laden and also seek to provoke an Islamist revolution by India’s Muslims. SIMI/IM has long-standing ties to global Islamist organizations, including LeT and Harkat-ul-Jihad-Islami (HUJI), as well as Pakistani intelligence agencies.

Some have suggested that IM does not exist at all as an independent group but is instead an effort by Pakistan’s external intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), to project an Indian face to the activities of Pakistan-based militant groups.

India ups security in cities fearing terror attack

India ups their security...

NEW DELHI (AP) - India increased security in major cities across the country Tuesday after receiving information that a Pakistan-based militant group was planning an attack over New Year's weekend.

More police were deployed to city streets, including in India's financial capital, Mumbai, which was attacked in 2008. Airports and railway stations and the popular beach resort state of Goa all tightened security following intelligence reports that the banned militant group, Lashkar-e-Taiba was planning to target these places, an official with the Home Ministry said. He spoke on condition of anonymity as he was not authorized to speak to the media.

India has taken even minor terror threats seriously since a three-day terrorist siege killed 166 people in Mumbai, though there has been no major attack there since.

Security has been high in Mumbai since Friday, when police began searching for four men who authorities believe entered the city to carry out a terrorist attack. Computer-aided photographs of the four suspects were released.

Indian Mujahideen.jpg

Mujahideen are so brave & righteous... according to their followers. How brave is it to murder innocent 2yr olds?

LUCKNOW, India -- A bomb hidden in a metal canister exploded Tuesday evening as thousands gathered for a Hindu ceremony, killing a toddler and triggering a stampede that left many others wounded in a holy Indian city.

Police said the blast in Varanasi appeared to be a terrorist attack but would not say who they suspected.

The bomb was stashed in a milk container on the Sheetla Ghat, one of many stone staircases leading to the Ganges river, the site of daily spiritual rituals, according to police official Brij Lal.

The explosion set off a stampede, and 19 people, including four foreigners, were wounded, Lal said. It was not immediately clear how many were hurt in the blast and how many in the subsequent chaos.

A 2-year-old who had been sitting on her mother's lap when the bomb went off died in a hospital, Lal said. Her mother and two others, including one of the foreigners, were in serious condition.[More...]

Feminists/Leftists: All Muslim Women Have Choice When It Comes To Burqa Wearing

Maybe they should ask Sirin Middya and other Muslim women like her about this:

Sirin Middya, 24, a teacher with West Bengal’s first muslim university Alia, has refused to wear a burqa in classes. This has prevented her from taking classes for the last three months. There is no stipulation about burqa in the guidelines of the Alia University but the students’ union is adamant that teachers should wear burqas.

Middya who joined as a guest lecturer at the University in March, got the ‘diktat’ in the second week of April that she would not be allowed to attend the college if she did not wear burqa. The University Grants Commission does not prescribe any such dress code. The unfortunate part is that students are forcing women teachers to wear burqa. Middya’s argument is that she has nothing against burqas but if she wears one at all it should be out of her free will.
What's wrong with this picture? A Student Union sets the rules? Screw that. Good on her for refusing and standing her ground.

Academic Freedom in India: Professor Gets Hands Chopped off for Defaming Islam

Okay, so it wasn't the government that chopped this poor guy's hand off -- it was a group of Islamists. But you'll notice that prior to the minions of the ROP catching up from him on his way home from church that his university had suspended him for writing an exam question deemed defamatory to jihadis. Since I find it hard to believe that any one could object to defaming jihadis, I can only assume that this means he said something offensive about Islam.

The last time I checked academic freedom was supposed to be about protecting ideas deemed controversial. I can think of no other idea today as controversial as the notion that political Islam is every bit as evil as Nazism or communism.

Jihad Watch:

Five Jihadi fanatics today chopped of the hands of Malayalam Professor.

A Malayalam professor T J Joseph of the Newman College, who is under suspension for preparing a defamatory question for an exam paper, was attacked by a gang of five men at Muvatupuzha when he was coming back from church.

His crime - A question prepared by the professor for a Exam was offensive to Jihadis.

Of course, this is India, a country which once banned The Jawa Report after blaming us -- not the terrorists -- for an attack in Mumbai. Apparently we provoked them.

Convicted Terrorist David Coleman Headley Questioned By India Justice Officials Regarding Mumbai Terror Probe

He had to if he wanted to stay alive. The martyr thing for him wasn't very appealing.

Chicago Breaking

A convicted terrorist expected to testify against a Chicago businessman in connection with the Mumbai terror attacks has provided details to investigators from India, federal authorities said today.

Department of Justice officials said David Coleman Headley was questioned by Indian law enforcement officials over seven days of interviews in Chicago.

Justice Department officials said there were no restrictions on what questions Indian officials could ask Headley.

Headley, a U.S. citizen of Pakistani descent, pleaded guilty in March to 12 counts of a federal indictment that accused him of traveling to India ahead of the November 2008 Mumbai attacks to scout locations for a Pakistani terror group[...]

In exchange for his guilty plea, Headley was spared from the death penalty and from being extradited to India, which also has the death penalty.

Rana's trial is scheduled to begin Nov. 1.

We have posted numerous articles on this so I direct you to our India archives

New Delhi – Several Injured In Radioactive Cobalt-60 Exposure

Five people suffering serious burns were hospitalized in West New Delhi this week from contact with radioactive material in a Delhi scrap market identified as Cobalt-60 which may be used for making a dirty bomb. Indian police cordoned off the 200 market stores and sealed nearby establishments up to a one-kilometer radius.

Scrap dealer Deepak Jain and his helpers lost consciousness when they cut a piece of scrap metal. A white fluid oozed out causing the burns, Jain’s hair fell out and within minutes his skin turned black.

No leads yet as to the source of the scrap metal.

India: American Tied to Pune Attack

Scanning the headlines of the Indian press it seems that the Indians are convinced that American Daood "David Headley" Gilani had a hand in the attack late last week that killed 9 (that's up from the initial estimate of 8) at a restaurant frequented by foreigners and near a Jewish center.

Unfortunately many of the stories take on a conspiratorial air speculating that Headley was a double-agent for the CIA. This speculation is based on .... well, nothing. Not even uncomfirmed rumors. Just speculation that since Headley probably was a DEA informant that, well, I'm not sure how those two get conflated in the minds of those in the developing world, but they do.

Laying aside the conspiracy theories about Headley, it is more than mere speculation based on nothing to suggest that he had a hand in the attack. We know he helped do recon work for the Mumbai attack. We also know that Headley spent time in Pune doing precisely the same things he did in Mumbai.

Hindustan Times:

Home Secretary G.K. Pillai Monday said there was a link between Saturday's Pune blast that killed nine people and the recce missions conducted by Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) suspect David Coleman Headley, and the government was trying to get access to him.

"The Pune blast investigations are at an initial stage. We are pushing for access to David Headley. We cannot rule in or rule out a foreign hand," Pillai told NDTV news channel.

"There is a Headley link. It is too close to the Osho Ashram. We have no idea about who did it. We need some more days. The footwork is on," he said.

The home secretary also indicated the LeT's Karachi project used Indian Muslims for the attack on German Bakery, a popular eatery in Pune, Saturday.

Indian Muslims. Hmmmmmmm.....

Islamists Bomb Jewish/Euro Target in India Killing 8, American Implicated

Reuters makes sure to point out that the police in India are telling us "not to jump to conclusions". Okay, we won't. This isn't jumping to conclusions: violent Islamists did this. Beginning and end of story.

Probably Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), the group that brought you the Mumbai massacre, had a hand in it. You'll remember that many of the communications between Chicago's David Headley and his LeT handlers were for him to quit focusing on attacking Denmark and spend his time scoping out targets in India instead. In addition to helping do recon work for the Mumbai attacks, Headley spent time in many additional communities in India -- sometimes posing as a Jew himself in order to case Jewish targets.

Headley's passport showed that he visited Pune, the city where today's attack took place. This is a strong indication that LeT was behind the attack. While I'll admit it's speculation, the links between the LeT and Headley's visit to Pune at their behest are too glaringly obvious to overlook. Just like his "business trips" to Mumbai, odds are that Headley was in Pune with a view in mind of finding suitable targets for a terror attack by the LeT.

All of this suggests that:
a) LeT was behind the attack
b) that an American may have helped plan it.

[inserted update] A Times of India article linked by Robert Spencer (and not nearly as PC as Reuters) notes that while in Pune, David Headley stayed at the Ashram Center which is located adjacent to the restaurant which was targeted. The restaurant was frequented by the center's European visitors. /update

But if not LeT, India has its fair share of Islamist radicals. And the long border with Pakistan also make it a prime target for other Pakistani based jihad groups.

A bomb ripped through a packed restaurant in the Indian city of Pune on Saturday, killing at least eight people including one foreigner in the country's first big attack since the 2008 Mumbai massacre...

Police said the bomb was hidden in a bag left in the German Bakery restaurant, a favorite of Jewish and European visitors, when it was full of tourists on Saturday evening.

"We heard a big noise and we all rushed out. The impact was so much that there were tiny body parts everywhere," said Vinod Dhale, an employee at the bakery....

Debris was strewn all around the bakery, located near an ashram or religious retreat which is also frequented by foreigners, and a Jewish center.

Reuters then goes on to explain the history of terrorist bombings in India. But then points out it could have been Hindu extremists.

Hindu extremists. Right. Hindu extremists often target Jews. /sarc

Mumbai Terror Lawyer Murdered

Vigilantism in India? Remember, he's defending one of the suspects:

The lawyer for one of the suspects in the 2008 Mumbai terror attack was shot dead Thursday, police and a colleague said.

Shahid Azmi was representing Fahim Ansari, an Indian national accused of helping facilitate the attack on India's financial capital in November 2008.

A lawyer colleague of Azmi, Rashid Mirza, said unidentified men opened fire on Azmi near his home in suburban Mumbai.

Tragic. Even terrorists need lawyers. In an ideal world they'd be given a swift, fair trial. And then shot.

Pakistan, India, Netherlands Against Free Speech and Religion

The common theme speaks for itself.

A court in Faisalabad, Pakistan, sentenced to life imprisonment Imran Masih, a young Christian, for having insulted and desecrated the Koran, according to the Minorities Concern newsletter.
Islam or any other religion can be criticised, but a malicious criticism aimed at promoting communal hatred and painting the whole community as villainous is not permissible, Bombay High Court held today.
Wilders, in the bizarre inquisition that has replaced justice in the Dutch courts, is accused of offending Muslims by pointing out that Muslims invoke the Qur'an and Muhammad's example to justify violence.

Report: Chicago Man Was Preparing More Attacks Against Jews in India

It's DEBKA, but it sounds plausible given that a) Daood "David Headley" Gilani had laid the groundwork for the massacre at Mumbai's Chabad house; b) Instructions on "how to pray like a Jew" were found on Headley when he was arrested by the FBI; c) the initial complaint against Headley have conversations in which his handlers urge him to focus more on India than his own plans of attacking targets in Denmark.

It should be remembered that Headley's job with Lashkar-e-Toiba seemed to have been reconnaissance. The report is all the more troubling, if true, because what if the recon had already been done and the attacks already planned?

US and Indian security sources say the arrest of the Pakistan-born American David Coleman Headley in Chicago on suspicion of complicity in the Mumbai terrorist atrocity in Nov. 2008 found him fully prepared to mount a wave of attacks this month on Israeli El Al airline offices, synagogues and Chabad hospitality centers across India, DEBKAfile's counter-terror sources report.

A key figure in an al Qaeda-linked cell in Chicago, Headley changed his name from Daood Gilani to travel as an American without incurring suspicion. Four months after the Mumbai siege, in which 170 people lost their lives in including six Americans, he was back in India on the same mission as before: selecting targets, advance surveillance, laying in secret caches of explosives and firearms for the Lashkar e-Taibe operatives to pick up on the sites of attack, and determining their exit point.

What if an American Was the Next Khalid Shiekh Mohammad? (UPDATED)

My latest article for PJM "U.S. Now Exports Terror: American Linked to Mumbai Attack". It ties together several posts I've written here on the potential involvement of a Chicago area man in India's 9/11 -- the Mumbai terror attacks.

Here's a teaser:

Since the 9/11 attacks, conventional wisdom has held that acts of terror on U.S. soil would most likely come from abroad. Much time and effort has been spent on beefing up border security to make sure the next Mohammad Atta never reaches the homeland. Yet the massacre at Fort Hood by Major Nidal Hasan underscored what has long been known in counterterrorism circles: Muslims born and raised in the U.S. might become radicalized and perpetrate acts of terror here at home, and more resources need to be directed inward.

Now, a string of arrests by the FBI over the past year has raised awareness of a new phenomenon: there exist Americans who wish to commit acts of terror abroad....

Late last month, two arrests in Chicago seemed to confirm a pattern of American citizens wishing to engage in acts of terror abroad but failing. But new reports from India indicate that at least one of the two arrested may have been involved in planning the coordinated attacks in Mumbai last year. Those attacks killed 173 people and have been described as India’s 9/11.

Read the rest and then pass it on.

I'm really at a loss as to why this isn't front page news here in the US. An American possibly involved in the planning stages of the worst terror attack in India in recent history? It's all over the Indian press but somehow our superiors in the MSM --- and even most bloggers --- have chosen to ignore this. In my mind it's a big deal.

Especially given that the first Mumbai attacks, several years before the one last year, were blamed by the Indian government on me. Yes, yours truly was fingered as inciting Muslims. My fault for printing not-so-flattering images of Muhammad and the Koran, you see. Muslims are like children not responsible for their own actions.

Well, it seems that India was right on one account: an American may have been to blame and I'm glad their general attitude has changed towards blaming terrorists rather than towards those that mock them.

Like I said, pass this along.

UPDATE: It looks like the Canadian press is begining to pick up on the connection between Tahawar Rana -- a Canadian citizen -- and the Mumbai massacre. CTV had this report: [Had to move the video below the fold. Scroll down to see it. Sorry.]

And the Canadian Prime Minister toured Mumbai yesterday, including the Chabad house. Seven people were murdered there during the Mumbai attacks. Four months prior to the attacks Rana's accomplice, Chicago's Daood "David Headley" Gilani cased out the Chabad house claiming that he was Jewish and in need of a place to stay.

Chicago Man Suspected of Helping Plot Mumbai Massacre?

We already knew that Daood Gilani (aka, David Headley) had made "business trips" to Pakistan to meet with at least two terror organizations. We also already knew that his contacts with the Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorists had discouraged him from pursuing his plot against Denmark's Jyllands-Posten newspaper in favor of targets in India.

What is new here -- or, at least, something that didn't stick out in my mind before -- is that "Headley" made several trips to India, including Mumbai. It gets worse: two of the hotels he stayed at were the main targets in the attack.

Coincidence? Maybe. They are popular hotels catering to Westerners. But given that he went to Coppenhagen multiple times in order to plan attacks -- including one trip in which he actually met with staff in the Jyllands-Posten building -- it wouldn't be a stretch to infer that his trips to Mumbai might also have been for the same purpose.

And if that isn't the inference being made by authorities in India, then why write an entire article on the connection?

The passport shows that Headley visited New Delhi, Mumbai, Kochi, Pune, Ahmedabad, Lucknow and Agra between 2006-2009--trips investigators suspect were recces for terrorist attack conspiracies.

Headley, while visiting Mumbai in March 2006, listed Hotel Trident as a place of residence. He stayed at guesthouse near the CST Railway Terminus and he booked a room at the Taj Hotel. The Trident, the Taj, and the CST terminus were three main targets of terrorists during the November 2008 attacks.

All the more disturbing when you remember that Headley and his co-conspirator Tahawar Rana ran an immigration service. I'm sure the FBI is looking into exactly who the pair helped get into our borders, but it's a reminder that immigration is not just an economic issue but a national security priority.

Thanks to Newbie.

Indian editor and publisher arrested for insulting muslims

How did Ravindra Kumar and Anand Sinha insult muslims? By publishing an article by Johann Hari, titled Why should I respect these oppressive religions?.

The article states how the organization of the islamic conference, OIC, has pushed through the UN a bill based on shariah law to silence criticism of religions (specifically islam). Johann wrote one paragraph highlighting how islamic countries treat their women, children and dissidents. Then there's the offending statement.

I don't respect the idea that we should follow a "Prophet" who at the age of 53 had sex with a nine-year old girl, and ordered the murder of whole villages of Jews because they wouldn't follow him.

The above statement is true and yet this offended muslims in India. When are we going to see muslims burn the quran and hadiths for pointing out things that apparently offend them?
From Straits Times

Ravindra Kumar, editor of the Kolkata-based Statesman, and Anand Sinha were arrested and later bailed on Wednesday after a local Muslim leader complained about the piece, which was first published in Britain's Independent newspaper.

The article by columnist Johann Hari was entitled 'Why should I respect these oppressive religions?' and contained allegations about Mohammed's life and his treatment of Jews.

On Wednesday about 1,000 Muslims burned copies of The Statesman, one of India's oldest English-language newspapers, outside its Kolkata head office in protest.

Kumar and Sinha have been charged with 'committing a deliberate act with malicious intent to outrage religious feelings.'

India's Most Wanted Terrorist Killed

Several news agencies are now reporting that Abu Hamza, India's most wanted Kashmir based terrorist, has been killed in a gun battle. Hamza is the commander of Al-Badr, a break off of Jaish-e-Mohammed, which is the military wing of the Pakistani based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

You may remember LeT from such recent acts of terror as the Mumbai massacre.

How did the Muslim community respond to Hamza's death?

Later hundreds of Muslim mourners, shouting "we want freedom", took to the streets with Hamza's body.
Good riddance to Hamza, but it's more than a bit troubling that someone like him could be regarded as a "freedom fighter" to so many. Fighting for what kind of freedom? For the pluralistic and secular governance of Indian Kashmir to be replaced by the oppression of religious Islamic law. That's some 'freedom' you're fighting for there.
