His abrupt change of mind was a relief to New Yorkers amid the sudden new concerns about terrorism. During testimony on Capitol Hill, Mr. Hagel announced that the Pentagon won't deactivate the 24th National Guard Weapons of Mass Destruction-Civil Support Team (WMD-CST)[...]

WMD-CSTs are trained to provide rapid military support to civil authorities in the event of a chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear threat.

Mr. Hagel acknowledged that his reversal on funding the pair of units in New York and Florida means they will not become the victims of federal cost-cutting[...]

The funeral for former Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez will be held tomorrow and a New Yorker will be representing the United States at the event–Queens Congressman Gregory Meeks.

“I am honored to be a part of a delegation that will represent the United States at the Funeral of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on Friday, March 8,” Mr. Meeks, a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said in a statement. “My deepest sympathies go out to the family of President Chavez and the people of Venezuela. Venezuela is an important nation to the Western Hemisphere. I remain committed to building the relationship between our nations. As always, I stand in continued support of the Venezuelan people especially at this time of mourning.”

The insanity verdict could aid the judge's effort to return to the bench.

Bar associations have recommended since 2000 that Brim be tossed from her $182,000-a-year job, but voters have kept returning her to the bench.

Newark:

A behind-the-scenes political maneuver by Newark Mayor Cory Booker to fill a vacant council seat with his choice led to a near-riot in city hall tonight, with dozens of residents rushing the council stage and police responding with pepper-spray.

After weeks of jockeying for Rep. Donald Payne’s successor, Booker made an unprecedented personal appearance to cast the deciding vote with his council allies for Shanique Davis Speight, a longtime ally of power broker Stephen Adubato, over the angry objections of residents.

After the vote, residents stood chanting "Cory’s gotta go!" as officials shouted over the confusion.

But when Speight was escorted by police to be sworn in, a group of residents, led by SEIU Local 617 President Rahaman Muhammad, stormed the dais and appeared to lunge toward Speight and her grade-school-age son.

Police restrained the group as they toppled a podium and residents were caught in the rush. When Muhammad would not give way, an officer doused him with pepper spray, along with residents, reporters and at least one other officer.

The Investigative Project on Terrorism has learned that House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi headlined a Democratic Party fundraiser with leaders of Hamas and Muslim Brotherhood front groups in May of this year.

The invitation-only fundraiser was sponsored by Reps. Keith Ellison, D-Minn.; Andre Carson, D-Ind.; and Steve Israel, D-N.Y., chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, and took place on the evening of May 16, 2012, at the W Hotel in Washington D.C.

In attendance were about 20 members of a Syrian dissident group and 10 officials representing Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas front groups. Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) Executive Director Nihad Awad was perhaps the most prominent attendee and played a key role in organizing the event.

CAIR, an unindicted co-conspirator in the 2007-2008 Holy Land Foundation Hamas money-laundering trials, was described in FBI testimony as having been created by Hamas. In a 2007 federal court filing, prosecutors described CAIR as conspiring with other branches of the Muslim Brotherhood to support terrorists.

The FBI officially severed relations with CAIR in 2008 because of its ties to Hamas.

Awad has openly championed Hamas and defended suicide bombings as "legitimate resistance."

I was just saying earlier this morning that I witnessed what I think was attempted voter fraud. I also noted that the attempt failed because early voters in my state have to show some sort of photo ID. But also that the attempt might have worked on election day because photo ID is not required.

This is worse. It shows the son of Democratic Congressman Jim Moran, Pat, not only encouraging voter fraud but promising DNC resources to help perpetuate it.

They say that they are against voter ID laws are there to protect voting rights. They're lying. They're against voter ID laws because it makes it harder for them to commit fraud.

Watch at least the first 8 or so minutes. The rest of it is the raw unedited footage. A preemptive strike against the Left's accusations of taking the words out of context.

United Nations-affiliated election monitors from Europe and central Asia will be at polling places around the U.S. looking for voter suppression activities by conservative groups, a concern raised by civil rights groups during a meeting this week. The intervention has drawn criticism from a prominent conservative-leaning group combating election fraud.

The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe ( OSCE), a United Nations partner on democratization and human rights projects, will deploy 44 observers around the county on Election Day to monitor an array of activities, including potential disputes at polling places.

Liberal-leaning civil rights groups met with representatives from the OSCE this week to raise their fears about what they say are systematic efforts to suppress minority voters likely to vote for President Obama.

The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, the NAACP and the ACLU, among other groups, warned this month in a letter to Daan Everts, a senior official with OSCE, of “a coordinated political effort to disenfranchise millions of Americans — particularly traditionally disenfranchised groups like minorities.”

The request for foreign monitoring of election sites drew a strong rebuke from Catherine Engelbrecht, founder and president of True the Vote, a conservative-leaning group seeking to crack down on election fraud.

“These activist groups sought assistance not from American sources, but from the United Nations,” she said in a statement to The Hill. “The United Nations has no jurisdiction over American elections.”

Breitbart News spoke with Engelbrecht about Cummings’ and Boxer’s attempts intimidate poll volunteers. “Rep. Cummings has no power to independently issue a subpoena,” Engelbrecht said. “But that didn’t stop him from leaking his letter to the same Los Angeles Times reporter who wrote the original story slandering us. Then Rep. Cummings went on Soledad O’Brien’s show on CNN and, just as Sen. Boxer had done the previous week all over MSNBC, he used his power of office to assault private citizens. Leaders on the left, including Soros funded organizations like Common Cause and DEMOS, are working overtime to discourage citizens from volunteering this election cycle; fear mongering to perpetuate the myth that they are somehow being victimized. Why? They are either trying to rally their base, trying to hide something, or both.

Although history proves that Christopher Columbus was an immoral treasure hunter who merely stumbled upon a region that had already been "discovered" by indigenous non-whites, we continue to praise the vicious conquistador as a hero.

For some reason I'm on Allen West challenger Democrat Patrick Murphy's email list. Usually I just delete them and move on. But when I saw that the latest piece of email came from Congressman John Lewis, I decided to read it.

This is pure unadulterated race baiting. The email uses a prominent black politician to try to convince minority voters in Allen West's district that West -- who is also black -- doesn't want them to vote.

I'd say I was surprised, but this is par for the course for John Lewis who is likely to cry racism at the drop of a hat. But trying to pull that card against a fellow black member of Congress? That's pretty low.

Most people think green is good but pay little attention to associated increases in costs. In 2015, it will cost between $49 and $79 to generate one megawatt hour of electricity from natural gas. A megawatt hour from onshore wind will cost between $75 and $138, and from solar photovoltaic will cost between $242 and $455.

A new poll shows that people are more likely to support the practice of harsh interrogation techniques under a Democratic administration then under a Republican one:

the poll numbers suggest that Americans have become more hawkish on counterterrorism policy since Barack Obama became president.

Consider this: In an October 2007 Rasmussen poll, 27 percent of Americans surveyed said the United States should torture prisoners captured in the fight against terrorism, while 53 percent said it should not. In my YouGov poll, 41 percent said they would be willing to use torture -- a gain of 14 points -- while 34 percent would not, a decline of 19 points...

Respondents in 2012 are more pro-waterboarding, pro-threatening prisoners with dogs, pro-religious humiliation, and pro-forcing-prisoners-to-remain-naked-and-chained-in-uncomfortable-positions-in-cold-rooms....

Support for assassinating terrorists has also grown, though not as much as for torturing them. In part this is because assassinations have always been quite popular.

A quarter of all Americans are willing to use nuclear weapons to kill terrorists. No joke....

To be honest, I threw in the nuclear bomb question on a lark, not expecting to find much. Boy, was I wrong.

So, I now have precisely one good reason to vote Obama.

During the convention Mrs. Obama talked about how she and Obama paid back their loans and at one time their student loan payments were larger then their mortgage payment. So if we "got rid of student loans" doesn't that mean these folks get no money. I'm not disinterested, The Xers paid ours back, no small feat. These kids need to man up and write off their 20s like the rest of us.

Naval experts concluded the background was a photo composite of Russian ships that were overflown by what appear to be U.S. trainer jets. It remains unclear how or why the Democratic Party used what’s believed to be images of the Russian Black Sea Fleet at their convention.

Judicial Watch

Known as an advocate of education equality for poor minorities, Democrat Shirley Huntley got hauled away in handcuffs last week and slapped with a 20-count indictment that includes felonies such as tampering with evidence and falsifying business records. Huntley stole nearly $30,000 she steered to a fake charity that claimed to help poor parents navigate the city’s school system, according to the indictment.

The 74-year-old state senator named her sham nonprofit Parent Workshop, according to the New York Attorney General’s office. The fake charity claimed to help low-income folks deal with the city’s huge and complicated public school system. Instead, authorities say, the money was pocketed by Huntley’s niece, who served as the group’s treasurer, and another man, who is listed as president.

It turns out that Huntley ran for office on both the Democratic and Working Families Party (WFP) tickets, according to New York State election results reviewed by Judicial Watch. This is relevant because the WFP has very close ties to the famously corrupt nonprofit with close ties to President Obama, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN). In fact, JW found that the WFP shares office space in Brooklyn with two ACORN spinoffs, New York Communities for Change (NYCC) and the Mutual Housing Association of New York.

When ACORN finally got busted for fraud, Congress cut its federal funding (Defund ACORN Act) and the group simply rebranded, creating a series of spinoffs operated by the same crooked people. Read all about it in a Judicial Watch special report born out of an extensive investigation...

The Weekly Standard noted WaPo failed to mention Donny Ray Williams Jr. only worked for Democrats, or the "D" word.

A former senior congressional aide was indicted this week in D.C. Superior Court on charges that he sexually assaulted two women after drugging them with a sedative that he allegedly put in their drinks.

Donny Ray Williams Jr., 36, who served as staff director for a Senate subcommittee and worked in the offices of several members of Congress, gave at least one woman Ambien and assaulted her while she was unconscious, according to court papers.

What a crock of bullshit, this dude must have hit his head on the floor one too many times:

No, I'm not kidding:

[Breeanne Howe/RedState]Starting at the end of this month the Democratic National Convention will open with a focus on Islam. 20,000 Muslims are expected to attend according to the Bureau of Indigenous Muslim Affairs (BIMA), the national Muslim American non-profit coordinating the two days of events they claim are non-political. ”Jumah at the DNC” begins August 29 and will start with a Friday afternoon jummah prayer followed by other unnamed programs and events, leading up to the Islamic Regal Banquet. The following day will be an all day Islamic Cultural and Fun Fest which will include discussions on the topics of Islamaphobia, Anti-Shariah, Middle Eastern Crisis, Patriot Act, National Defense Authorization Act and more. The purpose, according to BIMA, is to attract national and international attention to the plight of American Muslims and to hold political parties accountable for issues that affect them. However, not all Muslims feel that BIMA represents them and M. Zuhdi Jasser M.D., Founder and President of the American Islamic Forum for Democracy, has expressed serious concerns.

It is troubling that the Democratic National Convention has decided to promote and lend its name and national political platform to the organizers of the “Jummah at the DNC”. The leaders of this event – Jibril Hough and Imam Siraj Wahhaj as advertised are no moderates. They are radicals. These individuals embrace Islamist supremacy and have demonstrated support for radical ideologies.

A quick Google search by the DNC would have shown them that Hough and Wahhaj are leaders in the separatist American Islamist movement. While they may be able to get a few thousand Muslims to attend the event, they are NOT going to be mainstream Muslims. Most will likely come from Hough and Wahhaj’s radical networks that have long been entrenched in the Charlotte area. Make no mistake they are part of the Islamist movement.

This is not about their right of assembly; this group under a different name pulled the same stunt at the US capitol in 2009 claiming 20k and getting 2-3k. THIS IS ABOUT the DNC calling this an “official function” listing these radicals as typical of the DNC community and more importantly about this organization speaking out AS representing supposedly typical American Muslims (or “Mainstream”).

If that is who the DNC is consorting with then all Americans, Democrats should be concerned. There are many patriotic Muslims who are part of both parties, and when radical ideologues like this do a demonstration of “solidarity” in the name of our faith and choose an imam like Siraj Wahhaj who I saw with my own eyes in 1995 seditiously say it his duty and our duty as Muslims to replace the US Constitution with the Quran- then we need to speak up!

Their jummah (group) prayer is supposedly against the Patriot Act, the NYPD, and Islamophobia and is actually NOT about our democracy but about empowering their Islamist and MB (Muslim Brotherhood) sympathetic groups into the very fabric of the political system so that Americans become anesthetized. We need American Muslims to speak up and marginalize these radicals. The DNC needs to understand and reject them because of their radical history and ideas.

Alex over at Marginal Revolution shows that Republicans and Democrats are just about equally racist. Which is odd, because I'm constantly hearing from just about all the powers that be that Republicans have the market on racism cornered.

But as Maetenloch points out, just about equally racist isn't the same thing as equally racist.

It turns out, Democrats are slightly more racist than Republicans.

Some people may not vote for Barack Obama because he's black just as some won't vote for Mitt Romney because he's Mormon. Bigots, like the poor, will always be with us.

But let us put to rest the myth that Democrats are somehow more enlightened than Republicans on race issues. And then let these statistics assuage the guilt of over educated suburbanites who are thinking they might not vote for Obama this time around but don't dare say it aloud for fear of being thought a bumpkin who has a Klan outfit in hidden in the back of the closet.

(The Blaze/AP) — US military officers accused one of the highest-ranking US commanders in Afghanistan, Lieutenant General William Caldwell, of trying to cover up a horrifying scandal at a taxpayer-funded hospital in Kabul to limit bad news in an election year, the AFP reports.

Colonel Mark Fassl, who testified Tuesday, said he was shocked when Lt. Gen. William Caldwell cited the then-upcoming 2010 congressional elections as the reason not to investigate the hospital.

The general reportedly said at the time: “How could we … make this request with elections coming? He calls me Bill.”

Col. Fassl said he believed the “he” in that statement was a reference to President Obama.

Two retired colonels who worked with the training command also told the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee that Caldwell did not want an investigation of the Dawood National Military Hospital, and one described the building as having “Auschwitz-like conditions.”

Thanks to Dick Morris for putting this up. I think it makes a strong argument that President Obama is being deceptive when he talks about Clinton tax rates.

Dick Morris:

President Obama is trying to re-write history when he says that his tax program is the same as Bill Clinton supported “when 23 million jobs were created.”

It’s not that way at all. Clinton’s 1993 increase of personal income taxes on the top bracket to 39.6% had a very negative effect on the economy. It was only after Clinton’s 1997 cut the capital gains tax – the opposite of what Obama proposes – that job growth really piled up.

She issued a resignation statement Friday afternoon, saying that’s she wrote it “with great sadness and a heavy heart.” She said the private emails had been released “by someone I believed was my friend.”

“In passionately advocating my position supporting the rights of people I felt were being harmed, I used language that I now regret,” she wrote. “The gist of the conversation had to do with my concern for innocent people being oppressed, but such support for the oppressed does not diminish my support for the good people of Israel.”

Local Democrats are in an uproar about a series of emails about Israel, sent last year by one of their representatives to the Democratic National Committee, and a candidate for state representative.

In the emails, Evelyn Garcia, one of Palm Beach County's representatives to the DNC, a Democratic Executive Committee member, and a candidate for State House, District 88, accuses Israel of "crimes against humanity" and of running "mass concentration prison camps".

The email exchange began with Garcia forwarding an email by Code Pink, "Time for a New Middle East Policy," which announced a conference opposing President Obama's pandering to the, "pro-occupation lobby."

Which would "criticize Israel for it's occupation of Palestine"

(Daily Caller) The North Carolina Democratic Party (NCDP) is seriously considering passing a resolution that would criticize Israel for its “illegal occupation” of Palestine, the latest in a long line of controversial moves coming out of one of the major battleground states President Barack Obama’s team is banking on to win re-election.

The resolution didn’t pass at this weekend’s NCDP state convention, but was tabled and referred to the executive committee for further consideration later. It attacks the United States for providing Israel with “$3 billion annually in military aid,” while the “Israeli occupation, disenfranchisement and impoverishment of significant numbers of the Palestinian population, and Israel’s overwhelming military might and its role as the only nuclear power threaten stability in a region witnessing increased demands for democracy and an end to autocratic rule.”

If this passes:

It would also, if passed, mean the NCDP would advocate its congressional delegation bring “all parties, including Hamas, to the table to negotiate an end to the Israeli Occupation and a secure peace based on the 1967 borders,” among other things.

Holder tried to filibuster and Sen Cornyn wouldn't have any of that. No problem, Chairman Senator Leahy came to Holder's defense and ended the "heat on Holder" from Sen Cornyn
