I'm watching it right now live on CNN. The presser just started and he endorsed Newt!

Listen, I know Newt is flawed. His flaws, though, are personal. Romney seems to have no personal flaws. His flaws are all in his policy stances.

I, for one, am a policy guy. I think whoever we nominate is going to beat Obama.

I'm sorry, campaigns usually aren't won or lost based on anything the candidate himself ever said or did. For the most part, Republicans will vote Republican, Democrats for Democrats, and the squishy middle however they perceive the economy in general and will lay blame at whoever is in power.

Obama is going to lose. Who we nominate will be the next President of the United States.

That's not a 100% prediction, more like 70/30.

And, given my three choices: Romney, Santorum, or Gingrich -- I like Gingrich the best.

Sorry Santorum, you're just not Presidential material. It's a superficial judgement, but if my wife doesn't see it then you can bet millions of others won't either.

Sorry Romney, I just don't think you have the vision. You look like a President, but you just seem too willing to compromise.

We have not seen a drone strike in 55 days after the border fight....well we just had one

Unmanned US attack aircraft struck in Pakistan's Taliban-controlled tribal agency of North Waziristan today, ending a nearly two-month-long pause in strikes that have targeted al Qaeda and Taliban leaders and fighters.

The Predator or Reaper drones launched a pair of missiles at a compound on the outskirts of Miramshah, the main town in the terrorist haven of North Waziristan, according to Geo News. Four "militants" were killed and the compound was set ablaze.

The identities of those killed have not been disclosed. The Haqqani Network, a Taliban group that operates in North Waziristan as well as in eastern Afghanistan, administers the area where today's strike took place. Al Qaeda leaders and operatives also shelter in the area.

US officials told The Long War Journal on Dec. 12, 2011 that the program was put "on hold" due to tensions over the Mohmand incident, but that the drones would strike again if a high value terrorist target that could not be ignored was spotted.

Guardian:

• Two dead and several injured after blasts in Belgian city
• Attackers 'threw grenades at bus-stop'

.... A second attacker has been arrested by the police, Le Soir reports. A third is still on the run, it adds.

They are reported- and caution, this all remains unconfirmed- to have used 'thunderflash' explosive devices, as well as a kalashnivkov.

A child of two years old is reported by Le Soir to be critically injured in the Saint Joseph hospital.

1.16pm: Details are still very confused. Le Soir, Belgium's biggest daily francophone paper, is reporting that the attack was carried out by at least two people- one of whom died in the explosions, one of whom fled.

He is understood to have hidden shortly after 1.30pm [local time] in a wing of Liège's new palais de justice.

Witnesses have reported that shots were still being heard about an hour after the attack took place.

Details are still sketchy. No word as of yet on who or why. Expect updates.

Update II: There are claims leaking from Pakistan that the attack was revenge for Belgium punishing a Muslim family for an honor killing.

Update III: Although Belgian authorities are denying any links to "terrorism" 3 Users Say JazakAllah Khair anyway.

According to Jihad Watch the person known to be involved in the attack is one Nordine Amrani.

This fits with claims on an Islamist blog I follow that the attacker was of Moroccan heritage. The claim was that the Belgians are cruel to Moroccan Muslims thus the attack.

This has absolutely nothing to do with the known Islamist presence in both Belgium and Morocco, we swear....

Update: Reports are that Nordine Amrani was once jailed for drug and weapons charges and that he's written books in Arabic and French. If anyone can find his books it would be very interesting so see what he's written.

UPDATE by Rusty: A minimum of 3 innocents killed, plus this douchebag. However, some reports as high as 5 innocents killed, including a baby.

Update by Howie: Another body was found in Nordine Amrani's home. There was a found maid dead in a shed that he was using to grow marijuana.

It appears this event was triggered by that fact that his criminal career was about to end and he intended to take as many people out with him as he could.

News is starting to leak about the arrest this weekend of a New York City man who planned to bomb police and military facilities. The NY Post reports:

The NYPD and Manhattan DA’s office have arrested a terror suspect who was planning to bomb city police facilities and US military sites, where he plotted to target returning war personnel and the families who gathered to welcome them home, The Post has learned.

The suspect, who lives in Manhattan, was arrested after he actually purchased bomb-making materials, sources said. He’d been on the authorities’ radar for about a year, the sources said.

It wasn’t immediately clear exactly where he planned to attack.

We can report here exclusively at PJM that the man arrested is Jose Pimentel of Harlem. On his Facebook page he describes himself as:

I am a Muslim convert from the Dominican Republic looking for other muslims living in the US specially in New York City to share a brotherhood with and to help each other stay firm on the religion. Also looking for anyone that wishes to learn more about Islam and other religions.

olice say a shooting has been reported at a Chicago-area FedEx facility.
Several media outlets reported Thursday that a gunman opened fire inside a FedEx building in the Chicago suburb of Bedford Park. It was not immediately clear whether injuries had been reported.

Update: The person has killed himself. No reports of other injuries. Identity of the shooter has been withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Syrian army defectors have attacked a string of military bases in Damascus, including an intelligence complex on the outskirts of the capital, in the first such reported assault on a major security facility in the eight-month uprising against President Bashar al-Assad.

Members of the Free Syrian Army fired shoulder-mounted rockets and machine guns at the compound run by Air Force Intelligence in Harasta, a suburb of the capital.

A gunfight ensued and helicopters circled the area. The attack appeared to mark an escalation in armed confrontations between government and opposition forces instead of clashes involving street protesters. "I heard several explosions, the sound of machine gunfire being exchanged," a Hasrata resident told Reuters.

Other attacks targeted military checkpoints in the suburbs of Douma, Qaboun and Arabeen and Saqba.

There was no immediate report of casualties, and the area where the fighting occurred remained inaccessible, the sources said.

Libyan strongman Muammar Qaddafi is dead, according to a spokesman for the Transitional National Council.

Qaddafi died of wounds suffered during his capture near his hometown of Sirte on Thursday, Reuters and Sky News reported. U.S. officials say they are working to confirm the TNC's claim.

"Qaddafi is dead. He is absolutely dead ... he was shot in both legs and in the head. The body will be arriving in Misrata soon," media spokesman Abdullah Berrassali told Sky News.

The Transitional National Council's UK spokesman, Mahmoud Nacua, warned that there was "not enough information" to confirm Qaddafi's capture, and a former TNC spokesman in Britain, Guma al Gamati told Sky News that "this is not confirmed."

Sirte, Qaddafi's hometown and the last bastion of his supporters, was the last holdout against TNC forces. The town's capture, which both military officials and new regime political sources said was expected later Thursday, would pave the way for the TNC to officially take control of Libya and move its headquarters away from its Benghazi stronghold in the east to the capital, Tripoli.

Update: Reports are that he was killed in the ambulance after surrendering or being captured. He was in uniform. War crime? Or did he try to resist or escape in the ambulance?

The FBI and local police say they are trying to figure out why five French-Moroccan nationals tried to break into a Texas courthouse in the middle of the night.

At least five foreign nationals are in custody after the attempted break-in at the Bexar County Courthouse in San Antonio, which triggered a bomb scare and FBI terror investigation, a source close to the case tells FoxNews.com[...]

The pair, along with another man, who was outside in an RV, are being questioned by the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force.

Documents found inside the van showed the men seemed to have traveled extensively to high-level security facilities around the country, investigators said.[More]

I know the world has moved on...but a TV channel loyal to Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi has confirmed something rumored up until now.

Damascus-based Al Rai television said that Khamis Gaddafi was killed during fighting in Tarhouna, 80 kilometres south of the capital Tripoli, on August 29.

The channel said that his cousin Mohamed Abdullah al-Senousi, the son of Gaddafi's intelligence chief, was killed in the same battle.

This is the first confirmation of the death of Khamis Gaddafi, coming after several such reports emerged from fighters and the country's ruling National Transitional Council.

Khamis, 28, was the commander of a brigade in the pro-Gaddafi forces, which was said to have been in charge of suppressing protests when they began in early February in the eastern city of Benghazi.

Co-Founder of Apple Computer, Steve Jobs is reported to have passed away today.

CNN: Steve Jobs, the visionary in the black turtleneck who co-founded Apple in a Silicon Valley garage, built it into the world's leading tech company and led a mobile-computing revolution with wildly popular devices such as the iPhone, died Wednesday. He was 56.

The hard-driving executive pioneered the concept of the personal computer and of navigating them by clicking onscreen images with a mouse. In more recent years, he introduced the iPod portable music player, the iPhone and the iPad tablet -- all of which changed how we consume content in the digital age.

His friends and Apple fans on Wednesday night mourned the passing of a tech titan.

"Steve's brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives," Apple said in a statement. "The world is immeasurably better because of Steve."

More than one pundit, praising Jobs' ability to transform entire industries with his inventions, called him a modern-day Leonardo Da Vinci.

But I will say this.

When I was a young man my school had several Apple computers. It was a small school of about 96 students total. We had an AppleII+ and a couple Apple IIE's with the awesome 80 character green screen display. Which sure beat the 40 character display. But only if you weren't playing Apventure.

Well we had a set of disks that had a Pascal compiler. That did it for me. I'd used BASIC on several home computers of the day. But the compiler was so much faster and the language was so much better.

I ended up writing Lunar Lander for a project and blowing my teachers mind. But in retrospect the game sucked. But that's not the point.

The machines that Apple made back in the late seventies and early 80s is what kindled my interest in computing, they were a real computer that could teach real world concepts that I've been able to use on many platforms ever since.

So thank you Mr. Jobs, not for the iphone or ipad or any of so much of what people thing of as Apple today, but for that first machine, the one that taught me so much. The one that did the most to insure that I could succeed.

I owe you so much.

Our thoughts go out to Mr. Job's friends and family.

A senior leader of the militant Haqqani network, Haji Mali Khan, has been captured in Afghanistan, the Nato-led international force Isaf has said.

He was detained during an operation by Afghan and coalition forces in Paktia province on Tuesday, Isaf said.

He was heavily armed but did not resist, it added.

Haji Mali Khan is the senior commander in Afghanistan for the Haqqani network, blamed for some recent Afghan attacks and accused of links to Pakistan.

He is also a revered elder of the clan, the uncle of the network's leader, Siraj Haqqani, and served as an emissary between the Haqqanis and Baitullah Mehsud, the former head of the Pakistani Taliban who was killed in a suspected US missile attack in 2009

This is just breaking, apparently a man planned on using a remote controlled plane loaded with explosives to attack the Capitol and Pentagon.

UPDATE by RS: It looks like yet another case of a would-be terrorist who decides to hook up with undercover federal agents and await for them to deliver the all important bombs so he could blow up some unsuspecting infidels.

Rezwan Ferdaus of Ashland was arrested Wednesday in Framingham when undercover federal agents delivered materials he'd requested for his alleged plan, including grenades, six machine guns and what Ferdaus believed was C-4 explosive.

Ferdaus, a U.S. citizen and Northeastern University graduate, was scheduled to make an initial appearance in federal court in Worcester on Wednesday afternoon....

According to the federal affidavit, Ferdaus began planning "jihad" against the U.S. in early 2010. He allegedly believed he would have a large psychological impact by killing Americans, who he described as "enemies of Allah."

UPDATE: Interesting, it looks like our guy Ferdaus may have been living out a Rage Against the Machine fantasy. He appears to have been part of a couple of bands, one of them called Goosepimp. The Rezwan "Bollywood" Ferdaus who was part of the band is no longer with them, but Google's archive left some indication of the relationship. If this is the same guy, then here he is playing the drums [BUMPED photos to top of page]

The other band he seems to have been part of at one time was The Silk Road. Songs such as "Gaza Dozer" make me believe that this is the same Rezwan Ferdaus who thought blowing up the Pentagon might be a good idea.

UPDATE: J.M. Berger over at Intelwire has the affidavit which describes Ferdaus' involvement. Not only was he on the receiving end of devices he thought would be used to blow up "kafirs" (his words), his degree in physics was used to help make IED detonators:

FERDAUS has modified to act as an electrical switch for an improvised explosive device ("IED"), to FBI undercover employees, who Ferdaus believed were members and recruiters for, al Qaeda, to purportedly be used to kill American soldiers stationed oversees...

After each subsequent delivery, FERDAUS was anxious to know how well each of his detonation devices had worked and how many Americans tthey had killed. When asked why he wanted to build these detonation devices, FERDAUS explained that he "wanted[ed] to hit the kafir [non-believer] armies and [kill] as many people as possible."

I'm still reading the supporting affidavit, so expect updates.

FERDAUS told the UCE's that he realized more than a year ago from viewing jihadi websites and vidoes "how evil" America is & that jihad is the solution.

According to law enforcement sources, while a student at Ashland High School, Rezwan was said to have routinely turned his back during pledge.

He is also the same person who, in 2003, police suspected of climbing to the roof of Ashland High School and burning the American flag, although he was never charged over that incident.

Zainab Alhusni was a simple seamstress in Syria, well-loved by all her neighbors and friends. Now, in a tragic turn of events, she has become a symbol of the cruelty gripping that conflict-wracked nation.

Her older brother, Mohammed, became a well-known activist in the family's hometown of Homs in western Syria, often leading the demonstrations against embattled Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and treating the wounded.

On September 10, the family says, Mohammed was wounded in a demonstration. He came back to his loved ones a corpse. The family believes he was tortured to death.
In a statement posted to YouTube, another brother, Yousif Alhusni, describes multiple gunshot wounds to Mohammed's chest and a single shot through his mouth.

"His arms were broken and there were cigarette burns to his face," he adds.
The family went to collect Mohammed's body from a hospital when doctors told them another unclaimed body with the label "Zainab Alhusni" had been kept in the morgue's freezer for some time.

When the family received the body, her head and arms had been chopped off. Chunks of her flesh were charred, appearing in places to have been melted or burned down to the bone.

TUCSON, Ariz. (The Blaze/AP) – An Air Force Base near Tucson has stepped up security and limited traffic into and out of the base because of an unspecified security situation.

TUCSON - News 4 Tucson's Lorraine Rivera says that multiple people leaving the base told her that there was a civilian shooter on the base.

Tucson Fire Department says they are responding to DMAFB for possible patient with multiple gun-shot-wounds. News 4 Crews saw multiple TFD emergency vehicle enter and exit the base.

The person who was shot has been taken to a local hospital, and the shooter is reportedly isolated in one building on the base.

French nuclear safety body says an explosion has rocked nuclear plant in southern France, the Associated Press reports.

One is dead and three are injured from a blast at a French nuclear plant. A fire at a radioactive storage facility is reportedly the initiating event.

There is a risk of a radioactive leak after an explosion in an oven on Monday at the Marcoule nuclear site near the city of Nimes in the south of France, emergency services said.

The site is partly used by French nuclear giant Areva to produce MOX fuel which recycles plutonium from nuclear weapons. Part of the process involves firing superheated plutonium and uranium pellets in an oven.

Note that the body of the worker killed reportedly was "carbonized." Meanwhile, French nuclear authorities said there have been no radioactive releases outside the plant.

SAN CLEMENTE, Calif. -- San Clemente High School was evacuated Wednesday while authorities investigated a bomb threat that apparently originated at Camp Pendleton[...]

Orange County Sheriff's Department spokesman Jim Amormino told ABC7 the written threat was discovered among the personal belongings of an AWOL marine at Camp Pendleton.

Parents were urged to call the school district's "rumor control hotline,” 949-234-5575 for more information.

"Nothing has been stolen from Camp Pendleton. Right now all we know is there was threatening information on a piece of paper," Benson said.

The medic was identified as Daniel Morgan, 22.

He is white, wears glasses, has short hair and is driving a white Jeep Wrangler with a black top, with license number 6NKZ930, said Orange County Sheriff's Department spokesman Jim Amormino.

The Navy medic suspected of writing a bomb threat that forced a California high school evacuation Wednesday has surrendered to authorities, Master Sgt. Mark Oliva, a spokesman from Camp Pendleton confirms to Fox News[...]

While authorities did not find any explosives on an initial sweep of the school, and nothing had been stolen from Camp Pendleton, they said they are taking the threats very seriously.

Around noon Wednesday Jim Armorino, a spokesman from the Orange County Sherrif's Department said that the campus was secure. Students have since been released to return home.

Hazmat crews descend on Scott Air Force Base after a suspicious package sends three to the hospital and prompt evacuations of several facilities on the base.

“Currently we’re responding to a suspicious package that occurred at the official mail center (Building 1650),” SAFB spokesman Lt. Benjamin Garland tells KMOX News.

He said they’re not releasing any further information about the “suspicious package” or what it may have contained at this time. However the package reportedly emitted a sulphur-like smell.

Garland says at least 3 people have been transported to the hospital and 13 others are in decontamination. The hospitalized people were likely the package handlers and they showed no symptoms other than a rash.

FOX has the names of the three suspects but are withholding them at this time.

At least one U.S. military serviceman has been arrested after raising concerns over another possible attack on Fort Hood, Fox News has learned exclusively.

According to an Army source, one AWOL soldier is in the custody of the Killeen Police Department near Fort Hood. He was not captured on base. According to another source, two other U.S. soldiers were also arrested earlier today after authorities recovered weapons and explosives.[More..]

UPDATE: The AWOL soldier arrested was from Ft Campbell, Kentucky. We wonder if Howie's post yesterday, AWOL Muslim Soldier Objected to Fighting Muslims, is the same soldier.

Pvt. Nasser Jason Abdo, an AWOL soldier from Fort Campbell, Kentucky, was arrested by the Killeen Police Department near Fort Hood and remains in custody there. Authorities, however, will not say if Abdo is the one who raised security concerns

Bob Jenkins, a Fort Campbell spokesman, told Fox News that Abdo was being investigated for child pornography found on his government computer.

Abdo went AWOL on July 4. On the eve of his first deployment to Afghanistan -- after only one year in the Army -- Abdo applied for conscientious objector status. It was denied by his superiors at Ft. Campbell but later overturned by the Assistant Deputy Secretary of the Army review board.[More..]

Eric Vasys, a spokesman with the FBI's San Antonio Office, said authorities found firearms and bomb making components inside Abdo's motel room. Sources also say Abdo was attempting to make a purchase at Guns Galore in Killeen, the same ammunition store where Major Nidal Hasan purchased weapons that were allegedly used to gun down 13 people and wound 30 others on Nov. 5, 2009.

Sources said Abdo had enough materials to make two bombs, including 18 pounds of sugar and six pounds of smokeless gunpowder -- a possible trigger for an explosive. A pressure cooker was also found.

"He was all ready to go," one law enforcement source said.

In order to avoid the death penalty Abdulhakim Muhammad (aka Carlos Bledsoe) plead guilty to capital murder.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — A man who confessed to shooting two soldiers outside a military recruiting station in Arkansas has pleaded guilty and received a sentence of life in prison without parole.

Abdulhakim Muhammad pleaded guilty to capital murder in the middle of his trial Monday. Prosecutors took the death penalty off the table in return for Muhammad's plea.[ More]

Abdulhakim Muhammad frequently confessed committing the attack that he said was fueled by U.S. actions against Islam in the Middle East. But Pulaski County Prosecutor Larry Jegley said Muhammad on Monday approached the state for the first time about a possible plea deal.

The Tennessee native received a sentence of life in prison with no chance of parole on the capital murder count and life on the other counts, 12 in all, to be served consecutively.

Pulaski County Circuit Judge Herb Wright also sentenced him to 15 years in prison for each firearm enhancement count.

Jegley said prosecutors were ready to go forward with the case when the plea deal began developing Monday morning.

"Ultimately any plea resolution has to be OK with the victim and the victim's family," he said after the hearing. "The Long family is merciful beyond description. And they showed mercy to Muhammad. Muhammad showed no mercy to the victims whatsoever."

It remains unclear what caused the blast or if it was a terrorism attack. The Prime Minister was reported to be safe.

The cause of the blast was unknown but the tangled wreckage of a car was outside one building. Police and fire officials declined to comment on the cause.
Injured people were seen lying on the street in pools of blood.

The 17-storey building, which also houses Norway's biggest tabloid newspaper VG, was reported to be on fire, with thick black smoke being seen for miles.
Witnesses reported the massive blast blew out most windows in the building as well as nearby government departments including the oil ministry, in Norway’s capital and most populated city.

The blast, which occurred just after lunch on Friday, left at least a dozen people
"I see that some windows of the VG building and the government headquarters have been broken,” one witness told public radio NRK.

“Some people covered with blood are lying in the street.”

CNN: Is reporting that a second explosion took place after the first one, this is a hallmark of al-Qaeda attacks, multiple bombs set to kill and maim responders and onlookers from the first attack.

The group was once known as Ansar al-Sunnah and was responsible for many attacks, the murder of thousands if Iraqis as well as many snuff videos. To describe them as Kurdish is not untrue, its does operate in Kurdish areas, but it was active in the whole of the Sunni areas of north and central Iraq and was not exclusively Kurdish. And not the type of Kurd who from who we gained so much support, Describing them as Kurds is like describing Saddam as a "Kurd".

Also of note Ansar al-Islam was also allied with al-Qaeda umbrella group The Islamic State of Iraq which sought to unite all the Sunni insurgent groups under one flag until the death of its leader Abu Omar al-Bahgdadi and also AQI's last leader al-Masri.

DEVELOPING:A powerful bomb tore into the heart of Norway on Friday, killing at least two people and injuring 15 as it ripped open buildings including the prime minister's office. It was the deadliest bombing since World War II in Oslo, normally associated with the Nobel Peace Prize that is awarded there.

Elsewhere, a gunman dressed in a police uniform opened fire at a Labor Party youth camp at Utoya, an island outside Oslo, on Friday, shooting several youths, party spokesman Per Gunnar Dahl told The Associated Press. He said unconfirmed reports said five people were hit as panicked youth tried to escape the island swimming.

17.39 AFP is reporting that Jens Stoltenberg, the prime minister, had at one point been scheduled to attend the event on Utoya Island (the rally was for his Labour party), but he did not go for some reason.

17.33 People are reportedly phoning from Utoya saying they are benig shot at. Multiple ambulances being sent to the site. The alleged shooter was dressed as a police officer. He travelled on a boat to the island in the uniform and when he arrived he started shooting with a handgun, according to reports. Unconfirmed reports of four dead.

17.31 Andrew Ward, the Financial Times' correspondent in Stockholm has more in the attack on Utoya. The event was being attended by up to 700 youths aged 14-25 attending the camp. Eyewitnesses are hearing "many, many, many" gunshots.

1) It was just this week that Norway FINALLY indicted the leader of the terrorist organization Ansar al-Islam, Mullah Krekar. Krekar has been holed up in Oslo for years and the government there has refused to extradite him to Iraq where he is wanted for inciting mass murder.

While the Muhammad cartoons are always first and foremost on everyone's mind, it should be remembered that Mullah Krekar is a big name in the underground jihad community.

2) There is a reason we've had a Terror: Scandinavia section at The Jawa Report for many years now. Those archives go back as far as 2006 and the oldest post is a terror threat against Norway. Scandinavia's liberal asylum laws mean that there are major Muslim communities, many of them rife with Islamists who sought asylum from secular tyrants. People like Mullah Krekar who is an avowed supporter of al Qaeda but who fled Iraq during the Saddam era.

It also seems like the suspect in question was Nordic. At least, that is the buzz at Leftwing and Muslim sites which are claiming the suspect's looks as evidence that this was a right-wing attack against the ruling Socialist party in Norway. Which would make this Norway's OKC bombing and not Norway's 9/11.

The 32-year-old Norwegian man arrested for gunning down children on the holiday island of Utoya has been named locally as Anders Behring Breivik.

Described as 6ft tall and blond, he is reported to have arrived on the island of Utoya and opened fire after beckoning several young people over in his native Norwegian tongue.

Reports suggest he was also seen loitering around the site of the bomb blast in Oslo two hours before the island incident - and also before the capital's explosion.

The man's bio includes items such as he is a Christian, we can say that his FB and Twitter accounts appear to be brand new, within the last week. Only one tweet. There was some considerable effort on the FB profile though.

There is really no post history to check on those accounts in order to learn something about his motives. Only a profile to tell you whatever the killer wanted to present.

We've heard some chatter about his religion. As a Christian I have to say I condemn his actions in the strongest terms. In fact the only praise I've seen of the attacks were not by Christians. This is cold blooded murder and no true follower of Christ could do such a thing.

We pray for the victims, their families and for those who are injured to recover.

But Michelle Malkin is reporting that the Taliban later denied their own press release, claiming phone hacking by US intelligence.

KABUL: Two Taliban spokesmen said their mobile phones had been hacked and false text messages sent out on Wednesday reporting the death of the movement’s supreme leader Mullah Omar, who is still alive.

“This is the work of American intelligence, and we will take revenge on the telephone network providers,” said spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, when contacted by Reuters to confirm the veracity of one text message.

The messages came from phone numbers used in the past by both Mujahid and a second spokesman Mohammad Qari Yousuf and said “spiritual Leader Mullah Mohammad Omar Mujahid has died” and “May Allah bless his soul”.

Really I fail to see a down side in this, either Mullah Omar is dead or...... the Taliban are so effing owned on the internet its not even funny.

What am I saying? Yes it is funny.

In fact I can't stop laughing..... really.

The graphic video, which shows 16 Pakistani policemen who are lined up and then gunned down by Taliban fighters wielding AK-47s, was taken in early June in the Shaltalu area of the district of Dir in northwestern Pakistan, a Pakistani official and US intelligence officials who track the region told The Long War Journal. The executions were filmed after the policemen were captured during several days of heavy fighting.

There has been some kind of attack in Mumbai India.

Three explosions have shaken India's commercial capital Mumbai (Bombay), local media reported police as saying.

Initial reports say dozens of people have been wounded.

One explosion was reported in the busy Zaveri Bazaar, another near the Opera House and a third in the south of the city.

The blasts coincide with the birthday of Mohammad Ajmal Amir Qasab, the sole surviving gunman from the 2008 Mumbai attacks which killed nearly 170 people.

Indian media have quoted the home ministry as saying the explosions are a terrorist attack.

Three explosions have taken place in Mumbai on Wednesday evening - two in South Mumbai at Opera House and in Zaveri Bazar and one at Dadar West, in central Mumbai. The Home Ministry has confirmed a terrorist attack and Mumbai is on high alert.

All blasts took place during rush hour and in crowded places.

Eyewitnesses said about 15 to 20 people have taken to hospital in Zaveri Bazar. Reports said six people had died in the Dadar blast, four in the Zaveri Bazaar blast.

One explosion, in a car at a bus stop in Dadar West, has been confirmed. A police officer said there might have been an explosive in a meter box behind a hoarding at Khau gali, a street filled with eateries at Zaveri Bazaar.

An unexploded bomb has also reportedly been found in Dadar and a bomb disposal squad is working to defuse it.

The 400-plus Abu Sayyaf militants, who are fighting for an Islamist state in the predominantly Christian nation, are holding three other kidnap victims, including a child, as part of desperate efforts to raise funds, according to the Philippine army. City police chief Edwin de Ocampo told reporters that the gunmen stormed a beach house on Tictabon island and took three tourists. De Ocampo identified them as Gerfa Yeatts Lunsmann, 50, her son Kevin Eric, and a nephew, Romnick Jackaria, 19.

MIRANSHAH, Pakistan (Reuters) - At least 45 suspected militants were killed by missiles launched by U.S. drone aircraft in Pakistan's northwest in less than 24 hours, local intelligence officials said on Tuesday, one of the largest death tolls to date in the controversial air bombing campaign.

Coming a day after Washington announced an $800 million (505 million pounds) delay in military assistance amid worsening U.S.-Pakistan ties, the attacks could exacerbate tensions between the two uneasy allies in the war against militants.

The attacks started on Monday night, when remotely piloted drones fired nine missiles into a militant compound and at a vehicle in North Waziristan, killing 25 suspected insurgents, local intelligence officials said.

Another strike hours later in South Waziristan killed five suspected militants.

Then on Tuesday morning, a drone fired two missiles at another compound in North Waziristan.

"The missiles were fired as militants sitting in a vehicle were entering into a house used by them as a hideout," an intelligence official said, adding that 15 militants were killed in the strike. "The house is on fire."

Reports of an "unruly passnger".

CLEVELAND - An unruly passenger caused a flight from Chicago to Germany to be diverted to Cleveland, an airport spokesperson said.

The United Airlines 777 jet landed at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport at about 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Jackie Mayo, spokesperson for the airport, said a passenger on Flight 944 headed to Frankfurt was acting “suspicious and unruly,” and would not comply with the flight crew's request to settle down. As a result, the flight was diverted to Cleveland to have the passenger removed.

When the plane landed, Mayo said K9 dogs searched the plane as a safety measure.

Also reports that more than one flight was diverted there today for various reasons.

We'll update when we know more. May just be caution or as one Freeper pointed out, maybe it was the fish?

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. counter-terrorism agencies have concluded that a senior al Qaeda leader implicated in terrorist plots in South Asia and Europe is dead, a U.S. official said, following weeks of conflicting reports on his fate.
Pakistani officials said last month that Ilyas Kashmiri, an alleged leader of both al Qaeda and one of its Pakistan-based affiliates, had been killed by a drone-borne U.S. missile strike on a target in north-western Pakistan.

Media reports quoted a commander of Harakat-ul Jihad Islami (HUJI), the local group with which Kashmiri allegedly was affiliated, confirming his death.

But when these reports first surfaced, U.S. officials said they could not confirm that Kashmiri had been killed. They noted that in September 2009 Kashmiri also had been reported to have been killed in a drone strike, which turned out to be untrue.

A senior U.S. official said that in the weeks since the most recent disputed report of Kashmiri's death, U.S. agencies had confirmed to their satisfaction that Kashmiri is dead. The official declined to elaborate on what kind of evidence the United States had acquired confirming his demise.

Kashmiri is the latest in a series of militant leaders who have been killed or captured in recent U.S. counter-terrorism operation. They include al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, killed in a Navy SEAL raid, and Ahmed Abdulkadir Warsame, a leader of the Somali militant group al Shabaab, captured at sea in April.

SEATTLE – Two men were arrested late last night and are charged by criminal complaint with terrorism and firearms related charges. The complaint alleges that Abu Khalid Abdul-Latif, aka Joseph Anthony Davis, 33, of Seattle, and Walli Mujahidh, aka Frederick Domingue, Jr., 32, of Los Angeles, took possession of machine guns that they purchased and planned to use in an attack on the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) located on East Marginal Way, Seattle.

Law enforcement has been monitoring Abdul-Latif and Mujahidh, including the weapons transaction, to prevent the attack and protect the public. Unbeknownst to the defendants, the weapons were rendered inoperable and posed no risk to the public. The defendants initially planned an attack on Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington State, but later changed targets. The defendants intended to carry out their attack with both grenades and machine guns.

“The complaint alleges these men intended to carry out a deadly attack against our military where they should be most safe, here at home,” said U.S. Attorney Jenny A. Durkan. “This is a sobering reminder of our need to be vigilant and that our first line of defense is the people who live in our community. We were able to disrupt the plot because someone stepped forward and reported it to authorities. I commend the joint efforts of the FBI, the Seattle Police Department, and the Joint Terrorism Task Force who quickly recognized the seriousness of the threat and ensured the safety of the community.”

Law enforcement first became aware of the potential threat when a citizen alerted them that he/she had been approached about participating in the attack and supplying firearms to the conspirators. The person then agreed to work with law enforcement, which began monitoring Abdul-Latif and Mujahidh. Since early June the conspirators were captured on audio and videotape discussing a violent assault on the Military Entrance Processing Station. The MEPS is where each branch of the military screens and processes enlistees. In addition to housing many civilian and military employees, the building houses a federal daycare center.

“Driven by a violent, extreme ideology, these two young Americans are charged with plotting to murder men and women who were enlisting in the Armed Forces to serve and protect our country. This is one of a number of recent plots targeting our military here at home, ” said Todd Hinnen, Acting Assistant Attorney General for National Security. “The threat was averted by the combined efforts of the federal, state and local law enforcement officers that make up the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force.”

“The FBI remains committed to utilizing intelligence-based investigations to thwart would-be terrorists,” said Laura Laughlin, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Seattle Division. “This case epitomizes the value and capabilities of the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force concept as a means of preventing acts of terrorism. But for the courage of the cooperating witness, and the efforts of multiple agencies working long and intense hours, the subjects might have been able to carry out their brutal plan.”

“This attack was foiled because of the trust and relationships the men and women of the Seattle Police Department enjoy with our community,” said Seattle Police Chief John Diaz. “The complainant felt safe approaching a Seattle Police Detective and, in doing so, ended the plot intended to take innocent lives. This cooperative investigation involving local, state, and federal partners worked exactly as intended.”

Abdul-Latif and Mujahidh are charged by complaint with conspiracy to murder officers and employees of the United States, conspiracy to use a weapon of mass destruction (grenades), and possession of firearms in furtherance of crimes of violence. Abdul-Latif is also charged with two counts of illegal possession of firearms. The defendants will make their initial appearance on the complaint at 2:30 p.m. in front of Magistrate Judge Mary Alice Theiler, on the 12th floor of the federal courthouse at 700 Stewart Street, Seattle.

Both Abdul-Latif and Mujahidh face potential sentences of life in prison if convicted of the charges.

The case is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Washington, with assistance from the Counterterrorism Section of the Justice Department’s National Security Division. The investigation is being conducted by the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, which has investigators from federal, state and local law enforcement. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives contributed significant expertise to this investigation.

The charges contained in the complaint are only allegations. A person is presumed innocent unless and until he or she is proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

Update: I'm getting conflicting reports, Both NBC and CBS are reporting that a "device" was found and rendered safe. Other reports at this time do not confirm any device.

Ozarks First: CBS News - A suspicious item found inside a vehicle near the Pentagon has been "disrupted" and "rendered safe," a law enforcement official has told CBS News.

The U.S. Park Police have in custody a man believed to be connected to the item, according to Park Police spokesman Sgt. David Schlosser.

The incident began when a man -- believed to be a naturalized US citizen who came to the US from Ethiopia -- was found in the nearby Arlington National Cemetery overnight Thursday. The man was arrested at the scene.

Also its being reports that a notebook and suspicious devices were located in various places, although not in the car itself at this point.

Authorities reportedly found al Qaeda-related statements, a backpack initially believed to contain ammonium nitrate, and spent 9mm shells at the scene, ABC's "Good Morning America" reported.

A notebook containing words including "al Qaeda" and Taliban" was found at the scene, FOX News Channel reported.

CBS News reported that the arrested man was suspected of planting several suspicious devices around the Pentagon, the Arlington National Cemetery and the Iwo Jima Memorial.

US Park Police Sergeant David Schlosser said at a news conference early Friday law enforcement authorities were conducting sweeps of the Pentagon, the cemetery and the memorial.

"We're pretty early in this right now so were going to be doing sweeps. We're coordinating our efforts to make sure that the entire area is safe," Schlosser said.

DEVELOPING: The man in custody for carrying a backpack with "suspicious items and products" inside Arlington National Cemetery overnight is a U.S. Marine Corps reservist, military and law enforcement sources tell Fox News.

Yonathan Melaku, a Lance Corporal Marine corps reservist who lives in Virginia and who is Muslim, has been identified as the suspect in custody, Fox News has learned.

Sources close to the investigation also said a notebook believed to belong to the man was found containing threatening phrases like "Al Qaeda," "Taliban rule" and "defeated coalition forces."[More]

I'm not sure what to make of this guy yet. Given that he was arrested in a string of car vandalisms, what does that say about his intentions? I'm not sure.

Especially now that "nothing suspicious" (h/t: Doug Powers) was found in the car and that whatever was in his backpack was "inert". Dry run? Playing jihadi at night by himself in a cemetery? An al Qaeda super-spooky seance? I really don't know.

Maybe he is a lone wolf carrying out the aspirations of al Qaeda which hopes to provoke small scale operations. But if that is the case then it is our good fortune that most of the kinds of people susceptible to such provocation are morons.

WASHINGTON (AFP) – The United States will seek to hunt down and kill new Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri just as it did his predecessor Osama bin Laden, the top US military officer said Thursday.

"There is not a surprise from my perspective that he's moved into that position," Admiral Mike Mullen, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told journalists after the Egyptian leader was named the new Al-Qaeda chief.

Congressman Weiner will officially announce he can't finish the job sometime around 2.pm EDT.

In recent days, the world has followed closely the saga of Amina Arraf, the blogger who presented herself online as “A Gay Girl in Damascus” and who drew attention with her passionate writings about the Syrian government’s crackdown on Arab Spring protesters. Those writings stopped last Tuesday, and a posting to the blog, ostensibly written by a cousin, said she had been hauled away by government security agents.

News of her disappearance became an Internet and media sensation. The U.S. State Department started an investigation. But almost immediately skeptics began asking: Has anyone ever actually met Amina? Two days after her disappearance, images presented on her blog as being of Amina were revealed to have been taken from the Facebook page of a London woman.

And on Sunday, the truth spilled out: The gay girl in Damascus confessed to being a 40-year-old American man from Georgia.

Wow, see I told you this weinergate story would never die.

A new woman has come forward with what she claims are photographs, chats, and emails with Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY). These appear to undermine severely Rep. Weiner’s explanations that he was the victim of a “prank” or a “hack.”

The detailed new information suggests that the Brooklyn- and Queens-based representative and the young woman in question were involved in an online, consensual relationship involving the mutual exchange of intimate photographs.

Oh my.
