So it came as somewhat of a shock to see your 180-degree turn from waging war on Islamist evil to waging war on your erstwhile allies and supporters on the right. You attempted to explain this reversal on Nov. 30, 2009, when you published “Why I Parted Ways With The Right.”

Later this year, we’ll be launching a two-pronged campaign by which we hope to increase both the reach and efficiency of the blogosphere, as well as to bring pressure to bear on the media at large.....

I suggested to him that, in contrast to that particular project, we try to recruit bloggers who aren’t completely deranged. He agreed that this might be an effective approach.

Actually I agree with much of what was said. Except for the insane nasty blog war part that has been going on.

But blogs have already been invented. And without the crazy part you're not gonna get any traffic that's for damn sure. And I'm sure Charles and his enemies are enjoying the traffic his little self created blog war has drawn.

Maybe we can get in on that ;)

We need more diversity and linking on blogs not more petty creation vs science crap coupled with more consolidation.

Personally I've never had a conflict with science and God. Nope never read Sagan or Leaky or Asimov or even Charles Johnson for that matter and come away with less faith.

Never found much in the bible that explains much except Jesus ,how to save your soul and live either. But I don't dislike my "the world was created in 7 days and is 6000 years old " literalist cube neighbors. Nice folk. Trust my kid with em any day.

Seriously when Charles' Science can give me an at least half proven theory on what caused the big bang. Not a hypothesis mind you. Give me a call. Until then drop the believers are nutso anti-science crap.

If you want to do the blogs a service go invent a kick ass automatic spamproof trackback system.

Because that's the important part Charles is ordinary folk getting their say. Not a few hand picked vetted PC fake ass people.

Your idea is not bad, but how many Hot Air's can there be? If you can make it work more power to ya. I'll put my crazy blog money on no.

I don't often bring up the fact that I'm a political scientist by training and profession, but reading Gabriel Malor's excellent piece on why the birthers just don't get it that the Constitution clearly gives the electoral college electors (which the states have seen fit to check by popular vote) and Congress the final say on who is fit to be President, is just way too good to pass up. Read it all. He's right.

It's why a vocal minority of Bush supporters were aghast at the whole Bush v. Gore thing: Congress, not the courts, are to be the arbitrators of elections. And since Republicans controlled both Houses at the time, we would have won no matter what the courts said.

After you're done reading Article II, sec. 1 and Amendment XII it might also do you some good to read Amendment XIV which explains why even the children of illegal aliens born in the US are "natural born citizens" -- all attempts by Congress to limit citizenship by law be damned.

If you don't like that fact then offer an amendment. I'd support it.

Don't try to bring up laws that haven't been enforced in decades about dual citizenship. Those laws are null and void because they are unconstitutional. You can't "automatically" lose citizenship as some claim. It's a formal process.

Don't cite the federal code either, because when laws cease to be enforced they are not "taken off the books". You might as well cite laws still on the books giving a man permission to beat his wife once a month, as long as the switch's circumference is no bigger than your thumb. Laws are what are enforced, not what are on the books.

So, even if you were correct about the vast conspiracy to cover up Obama's real birthplace --- which you're not, a Certificate of Live Birth is a birth certificate so Obama has already provided his birth certificate (let alone overlooking the vast conspiracy which would need to be involved with the falsification of newspapers dating back to the week that Obama was born in which his birth was announced in Hawaii) -- there is no judicial remedy to it.

There is only a political remedy. They're called elections.

It's not only a dumb issue it's a dead issue.

Congressional elections are just around the corner. It's time to get fired up about electing Representatives and Senators who will check Obama's disastrous fiscal policies.

The purpose of this guide is to help you participate constructively in the Iranian election protests through Twitter.

1. Do NOT publicise proxy IP's over twitter, and especially not using the #iranelection hashtag. Security forces are monitoring this hashtag, and the moment they identify a proxy IP they will block it in Iran. If you are creating new proxies for the Iranian bloggers, DM them to @stopAhmadi or @iran09 and they will distributed them discretely to bloggers in Iran.

2. Hashtags, the only two legitimate hashtags being used by bloggers in Iran are #iranelection and #gr88, other hashtag ideas run the risk of diluting the conversation.

3. Keep you bull$hit filter up! Security forces are now setting up twitter accounts to spread disinformation by posing as Iranian protesters. Please don't retweet impetuosly, try to confirm information with reliable sources before retweeting. The legitimate sources are not hard to find and follow.

4. Help cover the bloggers: change your twitter settings so that your location is TEHRAN and your time zone is GMT +3.30. Security forces are hunting for bloggers using location and timezone searches. If we all become 'Iranians' it becomes much harder to find them.

5. Don't blow their cover! If you discover a genuine source, please don't publicise their name or location on a website. These bloggers are in REAL danger. Spread the word discretely through your own networks but don't signpost them to the security forces. People are dying there, for real, please keep that in mind...

Via the newly famous Le·gal In·sur·rec·tion: My post the other day, MSNBC Hides Obama's Dijon Mustard (aka Dijongate), has hit a nerve unlike anything else I have written.

Like most of my posts, Dijongate could have and probably should have fallen into the black hole of internet punditry, never to be seen or heard of again. But the reaction from the nutroots was widespread and swift, and they have kept the story alive.

Check out the links to the original post, and you will see that many of the high profile nutroots blogs have linked. If you check out the links and comments, you will see that the full foul-mouthed, abusive intellect of the nutroots has been brought to bear.

Update: Fame, fortune and more mustard controversy explodes!

Much of the first post and its updates were tongue-in-cheek to prove the point. It is beyond me how anyone could have thought I really cared that Obama used Dijon mustard in his Tuna Salad recipe, or that he had a Dijon mustard addiction. Did people really think I believed there was a "conspiracy of silence on Obama's allegience to Dijon Mustard"? I have said before, and repeat, that the first victims of liberalism are satire and irony.

You know, I knew this would happen. How? Well I am a Sith Lord, so I see things stuff before they happen. Call it a gift.

BOBS: The 2008 Reporters Without Borders Prize was awarded by the jury to a pair of blogs. Zeng Jinyan, the wife of an imprisoned Chinese human rights activist Hu Jia, and 4equality, a Persian blog that fights for women's rights in Iran.

Placed under house arrest, Zeng Jinyan's blog describes life under constant surveillance by the Chinese authorities. "It's a moving example of what people go through when someone is always watching what they are doing," said Clothilde Le Coz, the Reporters Without Borders representative on the jury. "She is isolated at home raising a daughter with her husband in jail. Hopefully this award will raise her spirits."

The Persian Weblog 4equality is working to gather 1 million signatures on a petition for increased women's rights in Iran.

"This blog is an alternative media," said Farnaz Seifi, the BOBs' Persian-language jury member, adding that 48 people involved with the movement surrounding the blog landed in prison and that the Web site had been blocked by Iranian authorities a total of 17 times.

I agree with the judges completely. Tthe two winners deserve it, and furthermore they need the publicity and international support more than me. I have rights; my Chinese and Iranian co-finalists are fighting a bigger battle under much more dire circumstances, and really its an honor to be grouped in with them. Good job ladies. Thanks to everyone who voted for me. I wasn't in last place. Yay!

The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information reported today that blogger Roshdi Algadir was arrested by the Hisba apparatus in Saudi Arabia on 4th November. He was taken from his place of work in Al-Dammam city, held for three hours, beaten up and forced to sign an agreement never again to publish his work on the internet. The reason behind the attack is the poem that Algadir has posted on his blog.

Roshdi Algadir, winner of an international award for his collections of poetry had posted some on them on his blog. Following this he was surprised by a number of the Hisba apparatus snatching him from his work, beating him and accusing him of apostasy.

Emily Zanotti of Sam Adams Alliance opens up the morning's "Austin Samsphere" group session. Emily's presentation focused on what the Left-wingers do well, and what we can learn from their success. In particular, Emily's presentation focused on the importance of networking, interaction and online community.

Erick points out that, contrary to a lot of the hype, there is a great deal of conservative activism online. The difference, as Erick correctly notes, is that individual conservatives tend to build personal outposts, while lefties tend to congregate in huge online collectives, such as DailyKos.

First, Snapped Shot gets a cease and desist letter from the Associated Press, and now Pamela from Atlas Shrugs has some nutjob "Rabbi" threatening to sue her for libel. Since the "Rabbi" is clearly a public figure due to his political activism, I'd suggest his lawyers read New York Times v. Sullivan (1964).

What's the legal term for "stick your certified letter where the sun don't shine"?

Like Rusty, I hope that Lionheart is acquitted of the ridiculous charges being brought against him in England. Also like Rusty, and after closely following the dustup that's been going on the past couple of weeks, I've come to the conclusion that Lionheart is, indeed, a douchebag.

Charles Johnson is not my friend (unlike Rusty, who I am proud to call a friend), he's not my mentor, nor did he inspire me to start a blog. I started a blog after following a link in a Michael Ledeen piece at NRO to Iraq The Model. That's how I learned what a blog was.

However, I've come to my conclusion based on Lionheart's vehement reaction to Charles' update in his initial post. When it was revealed to him that Lionheart was a BNP supporter, Charles rightly distanced himself, without withdrawing his support for Lionheart's case.

Instead of saying "well, I disagree with you about the BNP" and thanking him for the continued support for his personal case, Lionheart went on the attack.

He then posted a tepid apology, but even in that took a swipe, claiming that he had been defamed and slandered, despite the fact that his support for the BNP is quite clearly noted throughout his blog.

When you're in the situation that Lionheart is, you need all the help you can get. Going after people who want to see you triumphant, while not necessarily agreeing with all of what you do, is rather counter-productive.

Frankly, the BNP supporters of Lionheart showing up in comments on just about every post on this issue remind me of the Paultards. Which means that I think our side needs them like we need a new asshole.

Especially this person that left the first comment on Rusty's post:

Sadly, like Charles, at heart you are just another leftist Dr. Shackleford. Hence, an insidious traitor as opposed to a open one.

A traitor to whom, Mr. Mysterio? Or, better, a traitor to what? If you think Rusty is a leftist, please show evidence, other than the fact he, nor any of us here at the Jawa Report, support Neo-Fascist douchebags.

I'm no political purist. If douchebags want to jump on the anti-Islamist bandwagon I welcome the douchebags as allies. In politics there are no friends, only allies.

Hell, we fought side-by-side with the Soviets during WWII. They weren't our friends, they were our allies. There's no hypocrisy in this. We did what we had to do to protect our interests.

But when one of your allies goes to war with someone who is friend, ally, and mentor, then it becomes personal.

I started this whole thing in the LGF comments section. Charles inspired me to start my own blog. He started as a mentor, has always been an ally, and now I can say he's my friend.

Charles mentions that Lionheart calls him a traitor. Actually, the phrase he uses is insidious traitor.

That makes it personal Lionheart.

What the British government is doing to Lionheart is still wrong. I'm not sure how prosecuting someone for criticizing Islam isn't either a partial adaptation of sharia or dhimmtide. I hope Lionheart wins his case.

But wouldn't it be nice if our test cases had more sympathetic figures? A Rosa Parks would be nice right about now.

Imagine this scenario: The Brits try to prosecute some poor old working class lady. Her neighborhood has slowly been 'Stanified' over the past 20 years. Now when she walks home from work the local unemployed thuggish sharia enforcers harass her for not covering her head. She starts an online publication, with the help of her grandkids, in which she speaks out against recent Muslim immigrants for not assimilating. She blames Islam.

I can't imagine a jury that would convict. It would also show these anti-hate laws for what they really are.

Instead the Brits are going to prosecute someone who is unstable, a former drug user, and a supporter of the neo-fascist BNP party. A real douchebag.

Apparently Mohamed M. Ghounem took issue of our post which identified him as the owner of Muslim Videos. The online site features dozens of antisemitic videos, including one accusing Jews of ritualistically killing babies and another which encourages Muslims to kill Jews.

So naturally Ghounem responded by posting a video of himself at YouTube in which he describes The Jawa Report as "a racist Zionist website", and claim that they are "not antisemitic in any way shape or form".

Below is a screenshot from the home page of MuslimVideos.com. Leave aside the blood libel video called Jewish Lady Sacrificed a Baby & Worshipped the Devil for a second . The bottom left video you see there entitled Shaikh Yousef al-Qaradawi's Advice to the Ummah is a rationale for why it's okay to blow oneself up --- as long as the intended victim of said suicide-bombing is a Jew.

Nothing antisemitic about that.

Actually, I do get a list of talking points from the White House. Daily.

So, tell me again how we "regurgitate exactly and put up on [our] blogs what you said to [us]"?

Ace points out that he, too, gets some press releases but:

I doubt I've ever actually used a WH thing for a post.

To be honest, I don't see much difference between a few well know bloggers and the Administration's line on many things. I don't read those blogs. I know what they're going to say on any particular issue, so why read them when I can watch Fox News and hear the same things about the same stories?

Oh, right, I don't watch Fox News either. Sorry to disappoint.

The blogs I read either don't get the daily talking points, do get them and don't care, or, like me, have them directly diverted into a spam folder. I'm simply not interested in what the White House is interested in and could care less if I furthered their cause.

I gave up on the Bush administration long ago. I can name exactly one thing they've done that's pleased me since Bush was reelected: the surge in Iraq. And that four years late.

Dan Riehl is spot on with this:

In my opinion, simply regurgitating what professionals give you isn't blogging, not blogging I respect, anyway. And the best bloggers just don't do it.

If anything, though, right-of-center bloggers are far less partisan than those on the left. Take a peak over at the left's largest blog, Markos Moulitsa's Daily Kos, and what you get are story after story about eevil Republicans. As of this writing Kos is featuring two stories about American Taliban right-winger Mike Huckabee juxstaposed with criminal adulterer Giuliani. All Republican bashing politics all the time.

Now take a look at the right's largest blog, Instapundit, a small "l" libertarian who is constantly at odds with the White House and which at least half the posts are apolitical at best. Or the three runner ups for second place: LGF--a war on terror blog, rarely interested in the political priorities of the WH; Michelle Malkin, who can be counted on to be opposed to most of Bush's stupid policies, which are many; and Hot Air--hardly a bastion of "compassionate conservatism" and admittedly not on the White House's PR list anyway.

Sure, there are a few reliable right-of-center bloggers, but one of them, Hugh Hewitt, as Captain Ed observes, is a nationally syndicated talk show host who is a "blogger" only on the side.

Anyway, the only caveat I'll add is that I would willingly shill for the Bush White House, but they haven't offered me any money yet. I'm not interested in their political agenda, but money talks Bush & co. So why not have someone from Haliburton drop some cash and we'll chat?

Flattering me with a conference call ala the McCain model, as Joyner suggests, might be nice. But money talks and bullshit walks.

As the saying goes, it's not so much a disagreement about what we bloggers are, it's simply a matter of negotiating the right price.
