JPHizbullah-sponsored TV network Al-Manar TV has been granted permission to broadcast in Australia, after having been banned on two occasions.

Dr. Colin Rubenstein, executive director of the Australia/Israel & Jewish Affairs Council, said the decision Friday by the Australian Communications & Media Authority that Al-Manar TV did not violate government anti-terror laws was "regrettable, if unsurprising."

"This is because the anti-terrorism standards, as revised last December, are grossly ineffective on the issue of incitement to violence and fundraising for terrorist organizations," Rubenstein said.

"Al-Manar is banned in France, Germany, Spain and the United States. It should also be banned in Australia," he added. Crazy, they are asking for trouble allowing Hizbollah's propaganda to be aired there.

Australia doesn't have Somali alQaeda linked terrorist group al Shabaab listed as a terrorist organization either. Al Shabaab sympathizers are accused of planning the terrorist attack at the Holsworthy Army base.

The four are Nayaf El Sayed, Saney Aweys, Yacqub Khayre and Abdirahman Ahmed. Apparently they heart alQaeda linked Somali group al Shabaab. They liked using the telephone and kept in touch with each other through text messaging all of which led to their arrest.

Nick Robinson, prosecuting, told the court that the men, named as Nayaf El Sayed, Saney Aweys, Yacqub Khayre and Abdirahman Ahmed, planned to arm themselves and enter the Holsworthy base to try to kill as many soldiers as possible.

"To become self-proclaimed martyrs?" Peter Reardon, the magistrate, asked.

"Yes," Mr Robinson replied.

Text messages uncovered by investigators were read out to the court, including one sent from another suspect on March 24 that read: "Can you give me the address of the Australian A and the name of the train station."

Mr Robinson said another text message had been sent from a pay phone on March 27 giving directions to the Holsworthy base from the train station.

He said that CCTV footage showed that the suspect had "attended" the Holsworthy base on March 28. The man then allegedly sent a text message which read: "I strolled around... it is easy to enter."....

Operation Neath was launched after police intercepted a phone call between an Australian-Lebanese man they had been monitoring, and a Somali living in Melbourne, in which the Lebanese asked for help to travel to Somalia to fight with al-Shabaab, The Australian reported.

The Lebanese man’s calls had been monitored after he came to the attention of the authorities for espousing extremist views at his local mosque in Melbourne. Over the following months the police became increasingly concerned as the group discussed ways in which they could obtain weaponry and planned to seek a religious ruling supporting an attack on Holsworthy barracks.

Apparently the supposed terror cell was inspired by alQaeda linked al-Shabaab.

The Australian - A PLOT by Islamic extremists in Melbourne to launch a suicide attack on an Australian Army base has been uncovered by national security agencies.
Federal and state police, armed with search warrants, swooped on members of the suspected terror cell this morning, as they seek to arrest Australian nationals of Somali and Lebanese background in what will be the second-largest counter-terrorism operation in the nation's history.

The men are expected to be charged with a range of terrorism-related offences.

Authorities believe the group is at an advanced stage of preparing to storm an Australian Army base, using automatic weapons, as punishment for Australia's military involvement in Muslim countries. It is understood the men plan to kill as many soldiers as possible before they are themselves killed

Electronic surveillance on the suspects is believed to have picked up discussions about ways to obtain weapons to carry out what would be the worst terror attack on Australian soil.

The cell has been inspired by the Somalia-based terrorist movement al-Shabaab, with two Melbourne men, both Somalis, having travelled to Somalia in recent months to obtain training with the extremist organisation, which is aligned with al-Qa'ida.

One of those men has already returned to Melbourne. The other is still in Somalia.

The Australian government is finalizing negotiations with both China and Russia to sell billions of dollars-worth of yellowcake uranium for use, ostensibly, in electric power generation only.

Despite news that China has increased production of nuclear warheads recently, Beijing has committed to a safeguard agreement which reportedly prevents the use of Australian uranium in nuclear weapons. There has been no mention, however, about weapons use of the plutonium extracted through reprocessing of spent fuel.

Russia has not obligated itself to similar measures as the Chinese. Sources say that the Russians are perusing the issue.

Interestingly, while all these negotiations are occurring, Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has a bug in his britches to rid the world of nuclear weapons. Ironically, Rudd wants to sell the stuff that's used to make the stuff he wants to eliminate.

I'd suggest that Mr. Rudd order some new britches and then try to un-ring a bell. I'd also suggest that Australian voters elect someone else.

Brendan Sokaluk was arrested this past weekend for setting the fires. Gateway Pundit has more on this.

Pi**ed off bloggers started a facebook page and outed him giving his name and address. I won't link to the group as emotions are running high....a lot have lost friends and loved ones in the "Churchill Fire".

BTW, I forgot to mention he is a former volunteer firefighter and lover of child pornography.

I realize he is innocent until proven guilty but this dude is one sick, messed up areshole.

EA, Australia — Police arrested a suspect Friday in connection to one of the deadly wildfires in southern Australia that killed more than 180 people and left about 7,000 homeless.

Police did not release any details about the suspect, but a newspaper report said he was a 39-year-old man who would likely be charged with arson causing death in what police call the Churchill fire.

Correction - Per comments, the above dude is wanted for starting the fire at Ivanhoe not the Churchill fire.

I'm skeptical of the idea that this is the work of jihadis. I suppose we shall see in time.

AUSTRALIAN Muslims are "seething with anger" at what they perceive as the Australian Government's one-sided treatment of last month's Israeli incursion into Gaza, a Melbourne leader said yesterday.

Ramzi Elsayed, president of the Islamic Council of Victoria, said he had never seen the community so hurt or aggrieved, especially after acting Prime Minister Julia Gillard said Israel was responding to Hamas aggression after Hamas broke the ceasefire.

"It's as though they think one Jewish life is worth 100 Palestinians," he said. "Enough's enough. It's time to call the facts as they are. Israel broke the ceasefire on 4 November."

To 15 yrs.

The leader of a Melbourne-based terrorist cell has been sentenced to 15 years' jail.

Abdul Nacer Benbrika, 48, of Dallas, was sentenced to a non-parole period of 12 years. He has already been in custody for 1184 days.

Justice Bernard Bongiorno in the Supreme Court said a terrorist organisation led by Benbrika had been dedicated to the destruction of non-believers but the group had not planned specific attacks despite the evidence of a key prosecution witness[ed..leftist judges also in Australia eh?]

Benbrika became the first Australian to be convicted of leading a terrorist group last September, following the country's biggest terrorism trial that lasted seven months and cost tens of millions of dollars.

The father-of-seven faced a maximum 25 years' prison for directing the terrorist group that the jury heard had discussed attacking Melbourne's Crown Casino and bombing the MCG.

Benbrika was also convicted of possessing a compact disc connected to the preparation of a terrorist act

An Australian MP, Fred Nile, wants to ban topless bathing in order to protect muslims. Mr. Nile stated that topless bathing risked "raising the ire of Muslim men". So that means he has received no complaints and is just acting in dhimmi fashion.

Who in they're right mind would want to ban topless beaches? Thats why Mr. Nile has received no complaints from muslim men, they're probably for them.

POLICE have apologized for a hypothetical terror exercise in which a forest activist hijacks a plane and threatens to crash it into a pulp mill.

The hypothetical scenario - acted out by about 70 police at Devonport airport on Tuesday under the codename Western Approach - angered Australian Greens leader Bob Brown, the Tasmanian Greens and The Wilderness Society.

They called it offensive, unnecessary and irresponsible and made formal complaints to Tasmania police. Acting Assistant Commissioner Steve Bonde later apologised, The Mercury reports.

The scenario involved a forest activist who hijacks an aircraft en route to King Island from Hobart and threatens to damage the Wesley Vale pulp mill before landing the plane and taking the passengers hostage.

After negotiations, the armed offender leaves the building but is shot.

Wilderness Society senior forest campaigner Vica Bayley said the scenario was outrageous. "This exercise is offensive and totally misguided," Mr Bayley said.

I guess a scenario like this could happen, maybe.

An Australian men's magazine's Christmas promotion fell flat Tuesday when a container containing 130,000 blow-up breasts to be given out with its January issue was lost at sea, dpa reported.

"Unless Somali pirates have stolen them, it's difficult to explain where they are," Ralph magazine editor Santi Pintado told Australia's AAP news agency. "If anyone finds any washed up on a beach, please let us know."

Promised before Christmas, Australian authorities will launch a six-week pilot project to censor the Internet.

The government has already identified 1300 websites that it wants to black list as part of the clean feeds scheme. Communications Minister Stephen Conroy said the sites mostly contained child pornography and other unwatned content, including images and videos.

"While the ACMA blacklist is currently around 1300 URLs, the pilot will test against this list - as well as filtering for a range of URLs to around 10,000 - so that the impacts on network performance of a larger blacklist can be examined," se said. [sic all]

[Update] Opposition to the Internet censorship scheme has made headlines. The head of one of Australia's largest ISPs has called Communications Minister Stephen Conroy the worst in the past 15 years.

Furthermore, check out this statement:

Internet providers and the Government's own lab tests have found that presently available filters are not capable of adequately distinguishing between legal and illegal content and can degrade internet speeds by up to 86 per cent.

However, some clarification has been provided regarding what will be censored. Presently, it appears that mandatory filters will, as a minimum, block websites containing child pornography, hard-core pornography and online gambling.

When queried about the meaning of "unwanted content," Minister Conroy said he didn't have time to answer that question but would have time at some future meeting.

(Australia) According to Australian Health Minister, Ms. Nicola Roxon, a recent report named Australia's Future Fat Bomb would come as a shock to the community. Statistics indicate that 26% of adult Australians are obese while the U.S. rate is only 25%.

"These are obviously pretty staggering statistics to show that we are the fattest, or one of the fattest countries in the world," Ms Roxon told reporters in Canberra.

Obesity was a national priority and the government hoped to have an effective nation-wide strategy implemented in the next 12 months, Ms Roxon said.

"As far as they're concerned, alQaeda distorts the Salafi view of the world," Mr Lambert told The Australian during an interview in London. Australian Salafi leaders yesterday backed the idea of imams working with the authorities to prevent young Muslims from becoming radicalised, but they admitted it would be difficult for them to trust the counter-terrorism agencies.

It's too shocking to believe. I won't. I can't. The very thought that moderate recruits would actually believe Islamist rhetoric about how the mujahideen are the good guys and Western countries are the bad guys, and then acting on that belief would become terrorists? The logic boggles the mind.

The Australian:

THE Islamic group accused of trying to seize control of Sydney's Sefton mosque is part of a movement described as a recruiting ground for al-Qa'ida in a new terrorism intelligence report.

The group attempting the takeover has members who follow the Tablighi Jamaat stream of Islam, described this week bythe private US intelligence group Stratfor as an "indirect line to terrorism".

Members of the Tablighi movement have recently been linked to a terrorist cell in Spain that was planning a bomb attack in Barcelona.

During a series of raids last week, Spanish police seized bomb-making materials and arrested 14 men who were said to be members of the Tablighi.

The Tablighi Jamaat (TJ) name has come up before in connection with terrorism plots, including the October 2002 Portland Seven and the September 2002 Lackawanna Six cases in the United States, as well as the August 2006 plot to bomb airliners en route from London to the United States, the July 7, 2005, London Underground bombings and the July 2007 attempted bombings in London and Glasgow, Scotland.....

We have received reports that once the recruits are in Pakistan, representatives of various radical Islamist groups, such as Harkat-ul-Mujahideen, the Taliban and al Qaeda, are said to woo them actively — to the point of offering them military training. And some of them accept the offer. For example, John Walker Lindh — an American who is serving a prison sentence for aiding the Taliban in Afghanistan — traveled with Tablighi preachers to Pakistan in 1998 to further his Islamic studies before joining the Taliban.

David Hicks, Australia's Johnny Walker Lindh, has been freed. Seriously, the similarities between Hicks and Jihad Johnny are many. Both were members of the Taliban, both captured in Afghanistan, & both have douchebag fathers who claim their sons were well intentioned humanitarians who were simply misunderstood by oppressive Western governments.

To the right is a pic of Terry Hicks, the father, from a documentary he helped produce where he retraced his sons footsteps from Pakistan to Afghanistan. Like I said, a lot of similarities between Terry Hicks and Frank Lindh. Terry Hicks traveled to Guantanamo Bay for Hicks' hearing to show his support for his son, the traitor. He also allowed himself to be used by Leftwing nuts who think George W. Bush is a greater threat to freedom then the Islamic fanatics who want to reinstitute the death penalty for criticizing a religious figure. Religious fanatics like his son.

Hicks, unlike our own Johnny Walker Lindh, admits to having personally met with Osama bin Laden.

Most disturbing part of the story? Hicks was mobbed by a group of supporters as he was being released. The "supporters" are described as "mostly elderly". Islamists? No, I'm guessing aging liberal hippie douchebags.

I think I'm going to be sick.

The Age:

Hicks, wearing a green polo shirt and jeans, was to be driven to a secret location in Adelaide where he will start his life out of custody.

The father of two has completed a jail sentence, after pleading guilty before a US military commission in March this year to a charge of providing material support for terrorism.

A small crowd of mostly elderly supporters were outside the prison as Hicks left, many holding banners reading 'This could have been your son' and 'David Hicks is no threat'.

The supporters surrounded the car in which Terry Hicks and lawyer David McLeod left the prison, cheering as the car left the prison grounds...

It had been reported that David Hicks would include an apology to the nation in his statement, but after expressing gratitude to the public and the media for their support, no apology was offered.

Terry Hicks told reporters he didn't feel that David owed Australia an apology. He said he had spent five-and-a-half years doing it "pretty tough".

Meanwhile, the leader of Australia's Democats (which, I'm guessing, is Left of the current center-left ruling party) is saying Hicks shouldn't be on "control order", which is like probation. Instead of focusing on Hick's ties to al Qaeda, she's more worried about Hick's treatment at Guantanamo, which, by all accounts, was pretty good. Yup, nothing to worry about here.

Ray Robison e-mailed wondering if we couldn't find out who the Muslim cleric was that posted a letter to the father of a slain Australian solder who was killed in Afghanistan. The cleric wrote the father of Luke Worsley telling him he "can't be proud" of his son who "died for nothing", and posted a copy of the letter online.

Can we find him? Dude, we're the frickin' Jawa. That's what we do.

The cleric goes by the handle of 'Sheikh Haron' (Arabized version of Aaron).

Here's the letter, and some of the highlights:

Dear Sir,

It was good to talk to you on the phone today. In our conversation as I asked your permission I wanted to send you a letter to express my feelings about the recent incident in Afghanistan....

23 November [ed. note: the day Luke Worsley was killed] like many other days is wake up call for all Australians to think more about the value of the life of innocent people, about the oppression which many types of damages it causes in the society, about an oppressed system that takes human being to the wrong direction of the future, about the evil we do while we think it is good and blessing, about killing innocent while we are proud of it, about satanic politics that encourages innocent young soldiers to go to the unjust battles.

Sheikh Haron calls himself as an "Australian Muslim cleric", but that's all we know about him at this time. Several whois searches show that he registered either with false information, or using a Yahoo whois masking service. In the former case, it's grounds to have his website shut down.

But a challenge has been issued. Judging from his less than perfect English, I'd guess that 'Sheikh Haron' is an immigrant. That, or just ignorant. It's a start.

UPDATE: It's funny, a few Muslim groups and bloggers claim Haron isn't really a Muslim, and possibly he's part of a conspiracy to make Muslims look bad. But the paranoia goes both ways. Check this out from Haron:

Our hats are off to you Australia, once again:

AN Australian Navy boarding crew in the Gulf of Persia repelled an Iranian gunboat that threatened them a matter of weeks before 15 British sailors were captured in a similar incident, it was reported today....

But BBC reporter Frank Gardner, a security specialist, reported the Australians had pointed their guns at the Iranians and used "colourful language" before the gunboat withdrew.

Do we even need to draw the obvious comparisons....??

This is an Australian article, so I'm guessing that the Bible-rading Muslim woman was just 'uncovered meat' to Sheik Taj el-Dene Elhilaly. You know, she was just asking for it by reading the Bible.

Campbelltown District Court was told Abdul Reda Al Shawany twice sexually assaulted the woman, a practising Muslim who wears a hijab, after they met at a railway station....

He said when the woman came to Australia from the Middle East she began listening to Christian teachers and reading the Bible.

He said the woman had received threats from members of her faith for reading the Bible but had not converted to Christianity....

Al Shawany allegedly raped the woman and later allegedly said: "Let your Jesus help you."

Notice that he only praises "the mujahidin" in Arabic, never in English. Since Mohammed Swaiti is Australian, and he is praying for his own troops to lose to the mujahidin in Afghanistan, where they are fighting, isn't this treason? Or, at the very least, sedition?

THE most senior Muslim cleric in Canberra regularly praises Islamic jihadists in Iraq and Afghanistan in his Friday afternoon sermons.....

"God grant victory to the mujaheddin in his name in all places," [Mohammed Swaiti called out twice in Arabic over a microphone at Abu Bakr mosque in Yarralumla in front of about 500 worshippers.

"God grant victory to mujaheddin in Palestine, and Chechnya and Kashmir and Afghanistan and Iraq."

Although Sheik Swaiti translated his sermon into English for non-Arabic-speaking audience members, the imam of Canberra's only mosque omitted the praise for Islamic jihadists in the English version.

Islamic Society of ACT president Sabrija Poskovic - a longtime critic of Sheik Swaiti - rejected the cleric's suggestion he was not referring to fighters in his sermons. He said the cleric was too radical and preached the wrong Islamic messages.

"We don't like it when he's talking about jihad," said Mr Poskovic, whose organisation runs Abu Bakr mosque. "He asks God to help fighters fighting against non-Muslims."

The article says that the "Taleban insurgency shows no sign of weakening."

Question: With a resurgent Taliban and the long-term prospects of a unified, stable, and democratic Afghanistan looking just about as likely as in Iraq, how come Nanci Pelosi and company aren't demanding a timetable for withdrawal there?

David Hicks, the Australian Talilban, has pleaded guilty to charges of providing material support to terrorists. Hicks was captured on the battlefield in Afghanistan. The Australian convert to Islam has become a poster-boy of the Left, who cry foul at, well, everything.

His plea deal was expected. In return, it is thought that he'll get something less than a life sentence and will serve the remainder of his time in an Australian jail.

Pity, in my mind a life sentence would have been a good compromise for a plea. He deserved the death penalty.

The Australian Johnny Walker Lindh was the first detainee to be tried under the new military commission rules. Looks like the rules are going to work. Two of his lawyers were ejected from the proceedings today after they refused to follow the procedures and submit to the authority of the court. Pure. Political. Theater. All that was missing was "The truth? You can't handle the truth!" This is Gitmo, after all.

TERROR suspect David Hicks has pleaded guilty at a hearing at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba.

The Associated Press reported that Hicks, 31, entered a guilty plea to a charge of providing material support to terrorism.

Hicks's military attorney Major Michael Mori entered the plea on behalf of his client, who stood alongside with a sombre expression.

The guilty plea came about an hour after the judge, Colonel Ralph Kohlmann, ordered prosecutors, Hicks and his legal team to return to court after the day's 3-½-hour hearing had already wrapped up.

Hicks announced his plea during the rapidly reconvened hearing at Guantanamo Bay.

Hicks answered "yes, sir," when the judge asked if that was in fact his plea.

The Australian traitor who fought with the Taliban and al Qaeda, David Hicks, will face justice at a military commission set to reopen today at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Justice, that is, unless he cops a plea. Which it looks like he will do.

Apparently, he wants to go back to Australia to face charges there. And since Australia is part of the Coalition in Afghanistan, wouldn't fighting with the Taliban or al Qaeda be an act of treason? I love Michael Howard, but I don't think even he has the balls to charge Hicks with treason.

The media accounts, as if on cue, only quote Hick's lawyers and family [pictured right: Hick's father went on a pilgrimage to Pakistan in order to better "understand" his sons involvement with the Taliban. "He was just trying to be helpful," the elder Hicks said]. The Australian convert to Islam who voluntarily went to Afghanistan to support the barbaric regime, is portrayed as the victim. Apparently none of the reporters bothered to call up a 9/11 family to see how they felt about Hick's incarceration.

(Sydney, Australia) Australia is banning incandescent light bulbs because they are, apparently, significant contributors to global warming.

Australia announced plans on Tuesday to ban traditional light bulbs in a move Prime Minister John Howard called a practical step toward slowing climate change.

Claiming a world first for a national government, Environment Minister Malcolm Turnbull said incandescent lightbulbs would be phased out by 2010 in favour of the more fuel-efficent compact fluorescent bulbs.

He said replacing the traditional coiled filament bulbs invented by Thomas Edison in the 19th century would cut Australia's greenhouse gas emissions by four million tonnes a year by 2015.

Additionally, many applications using incandescent bulbs will have to be addressed in legislation separately. Examples include unique purpose lighting in refrigerators, stoves and other appliances, and ornamental lighting such as holiday lights and chandeliers.

Furthermore, since compact fluorescent bulbs cost considerably more than incandescent bulbs, last considerably longer, and burn cool, theft is virtually guaranteed. Watch Australia give birth to a new class of criminal, light bulb thieves, with all the associated headaches of law enforcement and legal proceedings.

Death threats will not deter a Sydney Arabic newspaper editor from continuing to work and publish in western Sydney.

A man claiming to represent al-Qaeda in Australia threatened to blow up the Sydney and Melbourne offices of al-Furat, an Arabic Australian newspaper, and kill its editor-in-chief, Hussein Khoshnow....

Mr Khoshnow said the newspaper had published articles in support of Saddam Hussein's death sentence.

"He (the caller) is supporting Saddam Hussein and his brother and speaking on behalf of al-Qaeda in Australia," Mr Khoshnow said.

"It's a bit mixed and really confusing, but that's what he's saying."

Mr Khoshnow, who came to Australia from Iraq in 1995, said the young male caller's accent was either from Yemen or Syria.

"He's probably Australian-born with a Yemeni or Syrian background."
