Terrorist Attack In Melborn

I like autofill headlines during Ramadan. Saves me from having to type "Terrorist Attack" over and over and over.

Here we go again.

The Australian confirmed that the hostage-taker, whose body was riddled with bullet wounds, was known to counter-terrorism police but that investigators were open-minded about whether terrorism was the trigger for the shootout. The fact a counter-terrorism source said the gunman was on parole will, however, raise serious questions and put pressure on the Victorian government.

Those Killed in Australian Terror Attack Identified

I was watching the live feed when Ms. Dawson or who I believe was Ms. Dawson was carried from the Cafe to the Coffee shop. Obviously upset. It appears she died.

Police have named the two victims in the cafe siege as barrister Katrina Dawson, 38, and 34-year-old Tori Johnson, who managed the Lindt cafe. Both are from Sydney.

Johnson had worked at the Lindt cafe for more than two years, and had previously worked in other cafes in Sydney and in the US, according to a report in the SMH. He had worked at the Martin Place cafe since 2012.

His LinkedIn profile shows he moved back to Australia in 2004 after a three-year stint overseas, working at hotels in the US and the Maldives.

Katrina Dawson, a 38-year-old mother of three, was with fellow barrister Julie Taylor buying a coffee in the Lindt cafe when the gunman attacked.

Taylor and Dawson practised in the Eight Selborne chambers not far from the Lindt cafe.

Australia has stood with us through all of this, as you stood with us we will stand with you. We will also mourn with you.

May they rest in peace and may the Lord keep them.

Update: I'm getting comments that Ms. Dawson may have been misidentified, but checking the outlets the names have not changed. We will run a correction if we can determine the above is incorrect.

Two Islamic State Terrorist Holding Up To 50 Australians in Sydney Cafe (Update Five Hostages Escape: Demands made in Videos Plus Bomb Threats/Terrorist Identified as Mufti Sheik Haron) Terrorist Shoots Twice: Police Kill Terrorist

I'm getting reports of from as few as a dozen hostages up to 50.

We pray the standoff is ended soon, with no harm to the innocent hostages.

There are reports that two gunman have taken hostages, some of which are standing with their hands up at the windows in the popular Lindt chocolate shop, which has two or three entrances. There is also a black and white flag being held up in a window. It is believed to be the Black Standard, a jihadist flag.
Lindt Australia CEO Steve Loane told news.com.au he believes there are 40 to 50 people inside the cafe, including customers and staff.
Other reports are suggesting there may only be 13 hostages.

Huddled in the dark, up to 15 hostages are tonight hoping for a breakthrough in negotiations to free them from a gunman.

Well-wishers are standing in vigil outside the exclusion zone in Sydney's Martin Place, as an eerie quiet settles over the city

Five hostages including three café staff have escaped the siege so far with their dashes for freedom captured on live television.

Another woman just escaped I see on the live feed.

There is only one gunman with up to 25 people thought to still be held hostage.

Here is a video from one of the hostages.

Gateway Pundit:

The gunman who took hostages at the Lyndt CaFE in Martin Place is known to police.
The Islamist wants officials to deliver an ISIS flag to the cafe. He also said he wants to speak with Prime Minister Tony Abbott.

Hostage taker in #sydneysiege is Mufti Sheik Haron. A man who previously sent hate mail to Australian war widows ”

Sheikh Man Haron Monis...

The gunman holding up to 20 people hostage in a Sydney cafe has been named as Sheikh Man Haron Monis, aged 49.

He has been holed up in a cafe in the heart of the city's financial and shopping area for several hours, raising a black Islamist flag and using human shields in the window.

Five of the hostages have managed to escape but police say they do not know how many are still inside.

Sydney police say Monis - who claims he's planted two bombs inside the cafe and two more nearby - is well-known to them.

The videos removed above can be accessed here.

Update: Its seems the people are not listening to the Shiek.

Update: Apparent gunfire, Two shots and people fleeing.

Live feed.. One woman injured.

Two motionless hostages including one resembling the heavy set woman on the video's removed. From building. Not moving.

Reports of two persons killed.

Reports that one hostage was killed and the terrorist.

ISIS Fan Shoots Australian Shia Cleric in Face

Breaking 911:

he militant Islamist group, ISIS, has shown that its terror tentacles have a long reach as a man was shot as he locked a Mosque in Sydney at the completion of the holy ritual Ashura, a 10-day ritual to commemorate the death of Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad.

According to eye witnesses, people had driven past the Mosque just hours before the services in Greenacre chanting threatening slurs such as “ISIS is coming” and “ISIS will stay”

Shortly after Rasoul Al-Musawi, a 47-year-old Iraqi Shiite religious leader at the centre, was shot in the face at around 1.15am on Monday.

Upon discovery, witnesses carried him into the Mosque and attempted to give him first aid while they waited for the ambulance. After arriving at the hospital, he underwent surgery to remove the pellets.

The victims daughter witnessed the attack and told reporters that he “has done nothing wrong to anyone”.

Australian Terror Recruiter Mohammad Ali Baryalei Is So Thunderstruck

He's totally 100% dead Jim!

AUSTRALIA’S most senior Islamic State fighter, who allegedly instigated a plot to behead a random member of the public in Sydney’s streets last month, has been killed in a coalition airstrike on the Syrian border town of Kobane, his friends have claimed.

Authorities were working last night to verify reports that Mohammad Ali Baryalei was “martyred’’ three days ago while fighting with Islamic State, the terror group to which he allegedly recruited scores of young Australians. The former drug-abusing Kings Cross bouncer would be the first Australian fighter killed in the US-led bombing campaign that has been striking Islamic State targets inside Syria and Iraq since August.

Two of Baryalei’s Syria-based friends, who were fellow alumni of the Sydney “Street Dawah” group he led, told The Australian the one-time bit-part actor was killed in an airstrike at least three days ago in Kobane.

Mohamed Zuhbi and Abdul Salam Mahmoud, who have been undertaking humanitarian work focused on the Syrian port city of Lattakia, outside Islamic State’s caliphate, said the reports of Baryalei’s demise were true.

“It was an airstrike, not sure by whom,” Mr Zuhbi said in an online interview with The Australian. “I personally received news from a brother who was with him for the most part of his journey so I believe it is true.”

See that's him right there! The one running for his life.... and losing.

You're welcome Australia, it was nothing.

Australia Continues Week Long Terrorist Sweep Disrupting Plot to Behead Random Aussie in Public

In a copycat plot of Michael Adebolajo's brutal murder of Lee Rigby in the streets of the UK, sSome Australian misunderstanderers of Islam planned to behead a random Australian in the street. They wanted to take revenge for Australia's humanitarian assistance in Iraq and carrying out ISIS' threat to make US allies pay for US bombing and assistance to the enemies of ISIS.

AP via Yahoo: SYDNEY (AP) — Police on Thursday said they thwarted a plot to carry out beheadings in Australia by supporters of the radical Islamic State group. They detained 15 people and raided more than a dozen properties across Sydney, though nine of those brought in were freed before the day was over.

Abbott was asked about reports that the detainees were planning to behead a random person in Sydney.

The plot was hatched over the phone with a high level Australian ISIS member pleading with supporters to carry out attacks on Australian soil.

Of course the so called moderates point their fingers. Its unfair!

Psychological warfare! As if that is something they won't do.

Congratulations to Australia for Electing Conservative Government

You might have missed this, but Australia just elected a new government headed by a truly conservative PM. How conservative is this guy? I was searching for news and found this picture of the new Prime Minister Tony Abbot (center) pictured next to .... Mark Steyn.

How cool is that?

He won running as an outspoken conservative in a country with compulsory election laws (yes, they make low information voters go to the polls) and by a landslide.

I think some of our politicians in the US could learn a thing or two. Here's some commentary from a British Tory sick and tired of the current Cameron government's wishy-washy, milquetoast toast, "moderate" style of governing:

As head of the Liberal/National coalition, he unseated a Labor government which had been in power since 2007. But here's the rub: Mr Abbott stands for all the things which, in this country, the Cameroons repeatedly claimed would make the Conservative Party unelectable.

An Oxford-educated devotee of the late Lady Thatcher, Mr Abbott wants to cut taxes and is against gay marriage, thinks man-made global warming theory is bunkum, wants to reduce immigration, and intends to end increases in overseas aid.

And on Syria?
For unlike President Obama and Mr Cameron, the new Australian PM understands that, in Syria, the alternative to the bad guys may be even worse guys.
Anyway, congrats to The Realist of Queensland and to any of our other Aussie readers.

Gang Rapist in Australia Pleads the "She Wasn't Wearing a Headscarf" Defense

Remember that movie where Jodie Foster was like totally asking for it when she wasn't wearing a headscarf? You know the one, she was all like slutty and stuff. Just flaunting it. What did she expect for not wearing a headscarf? You knew she wanted it.

You know the movie. It was called Contact.

A slutty pic of Jodie Foster's from Contact.

SMH Australia:

"[TW] said no but I go ahead with it because I believe that at the time I commit these offences, I believe that she was promiscuous …" he said. "She don't know us, I don't know her, like she was not related to us and she was not wearing any purdah … like she was not … covered her face, she was not wearing any headscarf and she started drinking with us and she was singing.
And if that wasn't bad enough, get this:
He said it was only now, since he had gained a "better understanding of Australian culture", that he knew the rapes were wrong.
I just want to clarify something here. He's making a "cultural defense" argument. He's not trying to get out of going to jail, just trying to have his "culture" used as mitigation in sentencing.

Le't forego the argument about the merits of such a defense.

What does his defense say about Pakistani culture? And what does it say about his understanding of rape being bad as not empirically bad, but only bad because it goes against Australian culture?

I think that he's making a clear argument for the former if the record of the trial is to be believed: In Pakistan we were never taught that rape was bad. Chicks who drank and who didn't cover their heads were either asking for it -- which makes it not rape at all -- or got what they deserved (rape as a form of punishment).

But what about that second question? Does he now believe that the Pakistani norm of rape is bad because he believes rape is bad? Or does he believe he must act as if rape is bad simply because he's now in Australia?

You know: when in Rome.

I'm not sure the transcript clarifies which it is. But either way, I think it's yet another indication of what we've always know about Paksitan: it is a stinking sh*thole that the world would be better off without.

Oh, and my apologies to stinking shi*tholes for the comparison.

Australian University Censors Speech Offensive to Islam, Threatens Students

dhimmitude for dummies2.jpg

Bend over dhimmis

June 3, 2013 - NEW YORK - Australian National University (ANU) administrators have given student board members and authors of the school's newspaper Woroni an ultimatum: retract a recently published infographic satirizing Islam or face disciplinary proceedings that could include expulsion. Not surprisingly, the students responded to the school's threat by removing the image from the Internet, having already published an apology to "any readers who felt victimised, while stressing that the piece was intended to be satirical."

The infographic was the fifth in a student-produced series that satirized aspects of different religions, preceded by installments on Catholicism, Scientology, Mormonism, and Judaism. Only the piece on Islam drew university censorship, following a complaint by the International Students Department. According to ANU vice-chancellor Ian Young, the Chancelry (administration) "felt [the piece] actually breached the rules of the university in terms of student conduct and . . . breached the rules of at least the Australian Press Council principles to which Woroni abides." Young denied that the censorship was an attack on freedom of speech and asserted that previous cartoons on other major religions were permissible because they did not attract formal complaints.

The implications of this are troubling: the Chancelry has effectively endorsed a policy of selectively restricting speech deemed offensive to Islam, and Islam alone.

The arrest happened earlier Monday in the Louisville, Kentucky area. Australian officials are filing extradition papers.

Kentucky is a long way to go to flee from Australian justice. But not far enough.

Asylum Seekers, Of Unknown Religious Affiliation, Burn Down Detention Center

Shocked, I tell you. Shocked!

Asylum seekers detained in Australia have reportedly gone on a rampage and burned down much of their immigration detention center in Sydney, in one of the most serious cases of such unrest.

A quarter of the 400 mostly Middle Eastern asylum seekers held at the Villawood Detention Center in the city's west took part in a night-long riot, DPA reported.

Detainees reportedly turned violent after their requests for asylum were turned down.

More than 6,000 people are being held in immigration detention centers in Australia, a coveted destination for asylum seekers from poor and war-torn countries like Afghanistan and Iraq seeking to start a new life.

Australia: Queensland Begins Post Cyclone Cleanup - 1 Dead 2 missing

Size comparison:

Aussie cyclone superimposed_US.jpg

Double wammy. Torrential rains in December resulted in damaging floods and now Aussies are dealing with the aftermath of Cyclone Yasi:

ELIZABETH JACKSON: In North Queensland, one person is dead and another two are missing.

The cyclone is over, but the storm rages on.

Ex-tropical Cyclone Yasi is still a massive storm that continues to dump heavy rain over north Queensland hampering clean-up efforts.

Around 150,000 Queenslanders are still without power, while crews are still clearing trees that have blocked roads up and down the coast.

Today the Prime Minister Julia Gillard and the Queensland Premier Anna Bligh are touring the devastated communities.

David Mark reports from Brisbane.

DAVID MARK: It was initially thought Cyclone Yasi unleashed its fury without taking any lives but today comes the news that a 23-year-old man has died at Bambaroo near Ingham. He was asphyxiated by fumes from a diesel generator.

The Queensland Premier, Anna Bligh.

ANNA BLIGH: He was sheltering during the cyclone in a closed room but using a generator for power.[ More]

Couple floating on inflatable dolls rescued on Yarra River

All Jawa's are accounted for.......I think

A COUPLE floating down Melbourne's Yarra River on inflatable dolls have been rescued after getting into trouble.

Police say the 19-year-old couple had just passed Pound Bend Tunnel at Warrandyte North when the water became turbulent and the woman lost control of her grip on the doll about 4.30pm (AEDT) on Sunday.

The woman grabbed hold of a tree that was floating in the river.

The man stayed with her and they yelled for help, police say.

A passer-by contacted triple zero and police and SES went to the scene.

A kayaker took life jackets to the pair and the SES attended with a boat and rescued the pair.

They were checked by ambulance officers but did not require medical attention.

Police say the fate of the dolls is unknown

al-Qaeda figure posing as asylum seeker captured by Indonesia

Curious....who is he and how high up the food chain is he.....and why did he flee the Stans and turn up on the other side of the world.

Sky News

A captured Afghan man posing as an asylum seeker and en route to Australia reportedly has links to al-Qaeda.

Mohammad Isa was captured by Indonesian authorities in North Sumatra in April with ten other illegal immigrants and has since been held in the Australian-built Tanjun Pinang immigration detention centre on Bintang Island.

The Australian newspaper reports Isa is said to be a doctor who speaks eight languages.

The head of Indonesia's international crimes unit Saud Usman Nasution says the arrest marks the first time an asylum seeker has been linked to potential terrorism.

The provincial head of immigration in North Sumatra, Sahala Pasaribu, has told The Australian they learned from Indonesia's specialist anti-terrorist police squad that at least one mobile phone held by the group of 11 Afghans, had been used to contact senior al-Qaeda figures.

General Nasution has warned that some asylum seekers trying to reach Australia via Indonesia could have terrorist backgrounds.

Who were the senior Al Qaeda figures he had contacted with that cell phone...

Push To Let Australian Doctors Mutilate Genitals Of Baby Girls (Updated - No Support For FGM)

The college for Australia's obstetricians and gynaecologists says it does not support the "ritual nicking" of young Muslim girls and anyone suspected of performing such genital mutilation should be reported to authorities.

Dr Ted Weaver, president of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG), said media reports suggesting the college would review its policy were the result of a misquote.

He said the issue was likely to be discussed at a meeting next month, triggered by recent announcements made by the American Academy of Pediatrics, but a policy shift was not on the agenda.

"The college does not support - does not - support female genital mutilation, full-stop," Dr Weaver said.

"This ritual nicking, as it has been called, has been put forward as a way of satisfying cultural sensitivities without making a lot of difference to a woman's genitalia but we do not support that either."

Good, apparently the backing part was misquote.

Thanks to Mashua Against FGM for the update.

Courier Mail

AUSTRALIAN doctors are considering a controversial form of genital mutilation on baby girls.

The practice involving cutting a girl's genitals, sometimes with razors or pieces of glass, could be allowed in a clinical setting to stem illegal backyard procedures which are leaving young girls scarred for life.

The Royal Australian New Zealand College of Obstetricians will next month discuss backing "ritual nicks", a modified form of genital mutilation[...]

But experts are divided on whether to allow the practice, given that in some cultures it is used to remove the sexual feelings of women.

Female genital mutilation has been outlawed in Australia since the 1990s but is common among African, Asian and Middle Eastern communities.

Tell me again how male circumcision is the same...

Hussein Hashi Farah was detained this month by Kenyan authorities after crossing into the country from Uganda at the border town of Busia on an Australian passport. Australians Linked to al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula

If these guys are linked to Anwar al-Awlaki, the American traitor who helped inspired both the Fort Hood massacre and the failed attempt to blow up an airliner on Christmas day, then they are also linked to al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. Al-Awlaki, it is said, has moved from a cheerleader role to that of an operational planner:

Security agencies are monitoring the movements of at least 20 Australians who have travelled to Yemen in recent years, including friends and family of the nine men recently convicted and sentenced to up to 28 years in prison for preparing for a terrorist act in Sydney.

Authorities have also monitored mobile phone and email communications between some of them and a Yemeni militant group led by American-born cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, who the US claims is a leading recruiter and motivator for al-Qa'ida and its franchise groups.

Camel: It's the Other Other White Meat

Alternative title: Camels, they're not just for screwing any more:

Muslims across the country are licking their lips at the thought of utilising a resource that has been overlooked for decades, but was once used to pioneer central Australia.

An abattoir near Alice Springs is on the verge of signing a contract to supply at least 10 per cent of Australia's Muslim population with halal camel meat....

Pending certification, it's a plan that has the full support of Imam Kafrawi Hamzah from the Alice Springs Mosque.

"Eating camel meat has become popular now," he told AAP.

He said interest in the product would grow even further once halal camel meat was readily available for purchase nationally.

Actually, I'd eat a camel.

But what's not mentioned in the article is whether or not the camel meat is halal should someone have sex with the camel first. Here's what the Ayatollah Khomeini had to say on the subject:

“A man can have sex with animals such as sheeps, cows, camels and so on. However, he should kill the animal after he has his orgasm. He should not sell the meat to the people in his own village; however, selling the meat to the next door village should be fine.” ...

“If one commits the act of sodomy with a cow, an ewe, or a camel, their urine and their excrements become impure, and even their milk may no longer be consumed. The animal must then be killed and as quickly as possible and burned.”

I dunno, maybe sodomizing camels is just a Shia thing?

Australia: Justice For Muslim Terrorists

Update on Australia: 5 Muslims Sentenced In Terror Plot

Via Australian Islamist Monitor

Yesterday, Justice Anthony Whealy sentenced five Muslim terrorists , who conspired to blow up a few objects here and there just to show us the right path to Allah.

Unfortunately for the five wanna-be jihadiis, Khaled Cheikho, Moustafa Cheikho, Mohamed Ali Elomar, Abdul Rakib Hasan, and Mohammed Omar Jamal – the jail terms are rather hefty.

The 44-year-old ringleader of the group received the most severe sentence of 28 years with at least 21 years to be served behind bars.[..]

The jailing of the men was challenged by members of the Muslim community, with cleric Sheik Taj Din al-Hilali saying the case had the "scent of hysteria", and the five had "no connection to acts of terror whatsoever"

The terrorist apparently looked around the courtroom and smirked after their sentences were read, via The Australian
THEIR smiles said it all. Moments after judge Anthony Whealy ordered the five Sydney terrorists to serve jail sentences ranging from 23 to 28 years, the men looked calmly around the courtroom and smirked.

If nothing else, their reaction seemed to confirm the judge's assessment that not one of the five had any remorse for plotting violent jihad on Australian soil.

In fact, the judge said, the men seemed to "wear their imprisonment like some kind of badge of honour", seeing it as "a test of their faith and a burden willingly borne as a duty arising from their fundamentalist religious conviction".

Sister of one of the terrorists sobbed after the trail...."it isn't fair to our religion"...please spare me the bs muslimah..

Australia: 5 Muslims Sentenced In Terror Plot

Via FNC who, along with Aussie's, had the audacity to say Muslim

SYDNEY — An Australian court Monday sentenced five Muslim extremists to prison terms of 23 to 28 years after convicting them of preparing for terror attacks on unspecified targets by stockpiling explosive chemicals and firearms.

Justice Anthony Whealy of the New South Wales Supreme Court said he had little hope that the men, aged 25 to 44, could be rehabilitated, saying they were motivated by "intolerant, inflexible religious conviction" and had shown contempt for the Australian government, its leaders and laws.

The men were found guilty last October on charges linked to preparing for a terrorist act between July 2004 and November 2005. The men — Australian-born or naturalized citizens with Muslim immigrant backgrounds — had all pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Rehabilitation doesn't work out to well, glad they realize this. Lets hope the Obama administration will get with the program instead of sending GITMO detainees to Yemen for rehab.

Hizbullah's Al Manor TV Gets Permission To Air In Australia

JPHizbullah-sponsored TV network Al-Manar TV has been granted permission to broadcast in Australia, after having been banned on two occasions.

Dr. Colin Rubenstein, executive director of the Australia/Israel & Jewish Affairs Council, said the decision Friday by the Australian Communications & Media Authority that Al-Manar TV did not violate government anti-terror laws was "regrettable, if unsurprising."

"This is because the anti-terrorism standards, as revised last December, are grossly ineffective on the issue of incitement to violence and fundraising for terrorist organizations," Rubenstein said.

"Al-Manar is banned in France, Germany, Spain and the United States. It should also be banned in Australia," he added. Crazy, they are asking for trouble allowing Hizbollah's propaganda to be aired there.

Australia doesn't have Somali alQaeda linked terrorist group al Shabaab listed as a terrorist organization either. Al Shabaab sympathizers are accused of planning the terrorist attack at the Holsworthy Army base.

Australia Names 4 Suspects In Planned Attack On Holsworthy Army Base

Update on Terrorist Attack On Aussie Army Base Thwarted

The four are Nayaf El Sayed, Saney Aweys, Yacqub Khayre and Abdirahman Ahmed. Apparently they heart alQaeda linked Somali group al Shabaab. They liked using the telephone and kept in touch with each other through text messaging all of which led to their arrest.

Nick Robinson, prosecuting, told the court that the men, named as Nayaf El Sayed, Saney Aweys, Yacqub Khayre and Abdirahman Ahmed, planned to arm themselves and enter the Holsworthy base to try to kill as many soldiers as possible.

"To become self-proclaimed martyrs?" Peter Reardon, the magistrate, asked.

"Yes," Mr Robinson replied.

Text messages uncovered by investigators were read out to the court, including one sent from another suspect on March 24 that read: "Can you give me the address of the Australian A and the name of the train station."

Mr Robinson said another text message had been sent from a pay phone on March 27 giving directions to the Holsworthy base from the train station.

He said that CCTV footage showed that the suspect had "attended" the Holsworthy base on March 28. The man then allegedly sent a text message which read: "I strolled around... it is easy to enter."....

Operation Neath was launched after police intercepted a phone call between an Australian-Lebanese man they had been monitoring, and a Somali living in Melbourne, in which the Lebanese asked for help to travel to Somalia to fight with al-Shabaab, The Australian reported.

The Lebanese man’s calls had been monitored after he came to the attention of the authorities for espousing extremist views at his local mosque in Melbourne. Over the following months the police became increasingly concerned as the group discussed ways in which they could obtain weaponry and planned to seek a religious ruling supporting an attack on Holsworthy barracks.

Extremist views at a local mosque? Well color me surprised - not!
