The FBI has made an arrest in connection with the case involving a teen who was trapped inside her Sydney, Australia home with a fake collar bomb on Aug. 3, CBS News has learned.

The arrest happened earlier Monday in the Louisville, Kentucky area. Australian officials are filing extradition papers.

Asylum seekers detained in Australia have reportedly gone on a rampage and burned down much of their immigration detention center in Sydney, in one of the most serious cases of such unrest.

A quarter of the 400 mostly Middle Eastern asylum seekers held at the Villawood Detention Center in the city's west took part in a night-long riot, DPA reported.

Detainees reportedly turned violent after their requests for asylum were turned down.

More than 6,000 people are being held in immigration detention centers in Australia, a coveted destination for asylum seekers from poor and war-torn countries like Afghanistan and Iraq seeking to start a new life.

I usually don't jump to conclusions, but today I say, "Itsda Jooooos".

The cyclone is over, but the storm rages on.

Ex-tropical Cyclone Yasi is still a massive storm that continues to dump heavy rain over north Queensland hampering clean-up efforts.

A COUPLE floating down Melbourne's Yarra River on inflatable dolls have been rescued after getting into trouble.

Police say the 19-year-old couple had just passed Pound Bend Tunnel at Warrandyte North when the water became turbulent and the woman lost control of her grip on the doll about 4.30pm (AEDT) on Sunday.

The woman grabbed hold of a tree that was floating in the river.

The man stayed with her and they yelled for help, police say.

A passer-by contacted triple zero and police and SES went to the scene.

A kayaker took life jackets to the pair and the SES attended with a boat and rescued the pair.

They were checked by ambulance officers but did not require medical attention.

Police say the fate of the dolls is unknown

A captured Afghan man posing as an asylum seeker and en route to Australia reportedly has links to al-Qaeda.

Mohammad Isa was captured by Indonesian authorities in North Sumatra in April with ten other illegal immigrants and has since been held in the Australian-built Tanjun Pinang immigration detention centre on Bintang Island.

The Australian newspaper reports Isa is said to be a doctor who speaks eight languages.

The head of Indonesia's international crimes unit Saud Usman Nasution says the arrest marks the first time an asylum seeker has been linked to potential terrorism.

The provincial head of immigration in North Sumatra, Sahala Pasaribu, has told The Australian they learned from Indonesia's specialist anti-terrorist police squad that at least one mobile phone held by the group of 11 Afghans, had been used to contact senior al-Qaeda figures.

General Nasution has warned that some asylum seekers trying to reach Australia via Indonesia could have terrorist backgrounds.

He's in Australia:

A drunk man who climbed into a crocodile enclosure in Australia and attempted to ride a 5m (16ft) long crocodile has survived his encounter.

The crocodile, called Fatso, bit the 36-year-old man's leg, tearing chunks of flesh from him as he straddled the reptile.

"If it had been warmer and Fatso was more alert, we would have been dealing with a fatality."

The man staggered back to the pub bleeding heavily.

The college for Australia's obstetricians and gynaecologists says it does not support the "ritual nicking" of young Muslim girls and anyone suspected of performing such genital mutilation should be reported to authorities.

Dr Ted Weaver, president of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG), said media reports suggesting the college would review its policy were the result of a misquote.

He said the issue was likely to be discussed at a meeting next month, triggered by recent announcements made by the American Academy of Pediatrics, but a policy shift was not on the agenda.

"The college does not support - does not - support female genital mutilation, full-stop," Dr Weaver said.

"This ritual nicking, as it has been called, has been put forward as a way of satisfying cultural sensitivities without making a lot of difference to a woman's genitalia but we do not support that either."

The practice involving cutting a girl's genitals, sometimes with razors or pieces of glass, could be allowed in a clinical setting to stem illegal backyard procedures which are leaving young girls scarred for life.

The Royal Australian New Zealand College of Obstetricians will next month discuss backing "ritual nicks", a modified form of genital mutilation[...]

But experts are divided on whether to allow the practice, given that in some cultures it is used to remove the sexual feelings of women.

Female genital mutilation has been outlawed in Australia since the 1990s but is common among African, Asian and Middle Eastern communities.

Police in Kenya say they have mistakenly released a terror suspect wanted in connection with planned attacks in Australia, though there are rumors that a bribe was paid for his freedom. Three Kenyan police and two businessmen have been arrested in connection.

Hussein Hashi Farah was detained this month by Kenyan authorities after crossing into the country from Uganda at the border town of Busia on an Australian passport. The BBC reports that border police conducting a check on the man found his name on an international terror watch list due to “credible information” linking him to a 2009 terror plot against targets in Australia.

Muslims across the country are licking their lips at the thought of utilising a resource that has been overlooked for decades, but was once used to pioneer central Australia.

An abattoir near Alice Springs is on the verge of signing a contract to supply at least 10 per cent of Australia's Muslim population with halal camel meat....

Pending certification, it's a plan that has the full support of Imam Kafrawi Hamzah from the Alice Springs Mosque.

"Eating camel meat has become popular now," he told AAP.

He said interest in the product would grow even further once halal camel meat was readily available for purchase nationally.

But what's not mentioned in the article is whether or not the camel meat is halal should someone have sex with the camel first. Here's what the Ayatollah Khomeini had to say on the subject:

“A man can have sex with animals such as sheeps, cows, camels and so on. However, he should kill the animal after he has his orgasm. He should not sell the meat to the people in his own village; however, selling the meat to the next door village should be fine.” ...

“If one commits the act of sodomy with a cow, an ewe, or a camel, their urine and their excrements become impure, and even their milk may no longer be consumed. The animal must then be killed and as quickly as possible and burned.”

Yesterday, Justice Anthony Whealy sentenced five Muslim terrorists , who conspired to blow up a few objects here and there just to show us the right path to Allah.

Unfortunately for the five wanna-be jihadiis, Khaled Cheikho, Moustafa Cheikho, Mohamed Ali Elomar, Abdul Rakib Hasan, and Mohammed Omar Jamal – the jail terms are rather hefty.

The 44-year-old ringleader of the group received the most severe sentence of 28 years with at least 21 years to be served behind bars.[..]

The jailing of the men was challenged by members of the Muslim community, with cleric Sheik Taj Din al-Hilali saying the case had the "scent of hysteria", and the five had "no connection to acts of terror whatsoever"

THEIR smiles said it all. Moments after judge Anthony Whealy ordered the five Sydney terrorists to serve jail sentences ranging from 23 to 28 years, the men looked calmly around the courtroom and smirked.

If nothing else, their reaction seemed to confirm the judge's assessment that not one of the five had any remorse for plotting violent jihad on Australian soil.

In fact, the judge said, the men seemed to "wear their imprisonment like some kind of badge of honour", seeing it as "a test of their faith and a burden willingly borne as a duty arising from their fundamentalist religious conviction".

SYDNEY — An Australian court Monday sentenced five Muslim extremists to prison terms of 23 to 28 years after convicting them of preparing for terror attacks on unspecified targets by stockpiling explosive chemicals and firearms.

Justice Anthony Whealy of the New South Wales Supreme Court said he had little hope that the men, aged 25 to 44, could be rehabilitated, saying they were motivated by "intolerant, inflexible religious conviction" and had shown contempt for the Australian government, its leaders and laws.

The men were found guilty last October on charges linked to preparing for a terrorist act between July 2004 and November 2005. The men — Australian-born or naturalized citizens with Muslim immigrant backgrounds — had all pleaded not guilty to the charges.

JPHizbullah-sponsored TV network Al-Manar TV has been granted permission to broadcast in Australia, after having been banned on two occasions.

Dr. Colin Rubenstein, executive director of the Australia/Israel & Jewish Affairs Council, said the decision Friday by the Australian Communications & Media Authority that Al-Manar TV did not violate government anti-terror laws was "regrettable, if unsurprising."

"This is because the anti-terrorism standards, as revised last December, are grossly ineffective on the issue of incitement to violence and fundraising for terrorist organizations," Rubenstein said.

"Al-Manar is banned in France, Germany, Spain and the United States. It should also be banned in Australia," he added. Crazy, they are asking for trouble allowing Hizbollah's propaganda to be aired there.

Australia doesn't have Somali alQaeda linked terrorist group al Shabaab listed as a terrorist organization either. Al Shabaab sympathizers are accused of planning the terrorist attack at the Holsworthy Army base.

The four are Nayaf El Sayed, Saney Aweys, Yacqub Khayre and Abdirahman Ahmed. Apparently they heart alQaeda linked Somali group al Shabaab. They liked using the telephone and kept in touch with each other through text messaging all of which led to their arrest.

Nick Robinson, prosecuting, told the court that the men, named as Nayaf El Sayed, Saney Aweys, Yacqub Khayre and Abdirahman Ahmed, planned to arm themselves and enter the Holsworthy base to try to kill as many soldiers as possible.

"To become self-proclaimed martyrs?" Peter Reardon, the magistrate, asked.

"Yes," Mr Robinson replied.

Text messages uncovered by investigators were read out to the court, including one sent from another suspect on March 24 that read: "Can you give me the address of the Australian A and the name of the train station."

Mr Robinson said another text message had been sent from a pay phone on March 27 giving directions to the Holsworthy base from the train station.

He said that CCTV footage showed that the suspect had "attended" the Holsworthy base on March 28. The man then allegedly sent a text message which read: "I strolled around... it is easy to enter."....

Operation Neath was launched after police intercepted a phone call between an Australian-Lebanese man they had been monitoring, and a Somali living in Melbourne, in which the Lebanese asked for help to travel to Somalia to fight with al-Shabaab, The Australian reported.

The Lebanese man’s calls had been monitored after he came to the attention of the authorities for espousing extremist views at his local mosque in Melbourne. Over the following months the police became increasingly concerned as the group discussed ways in which they could obtain weaponry and planned to seek a religious ruling supporting an attack on Holsworthy barracks.

Apparently the supposed terror cell was inspired by alQaeda linked al-Shabaab.

The Australian - A PLOT by Islamic extremists in Melbourne to launch a suicide attack on an Australian Army base has been uncovered by national security agencies.
Federal and state police, armed with search warrants, swooped on members of the suspected terror cell this morning, as they seek to arrest Australian nationals of Somali and Lebanese background in what will be the second-largest counter-terrorism operation in the nation's history.

The men are expected to be charged with a range of terrorism-related offences.

Authorities believe the group is at an advanced stage of preparing to storm an Australian Army base, using automatic weapons, as punishment for Australia's military involvement in Muslim countries. It is understood the men plan to kill as many soldiers as possible before they are themselves killed

Electronic surveillance on the suspects is believed to have picked up discussions about ways to obtain weapons to carry out what would be the worst terror attack on Australian soil.

The cell has been inspired by the Somalia-based terrorist movement al-Shabaab, with two Melbourne men, both Somalis, having travelled to Somalia in recent months to obtain training with the extremist organisation, which is aligned with al-Qa'ida.

One of those men has already returned to Melbourne. The other is still in Somalia.

The Australian government is finalizing negotiations with both China and Russia to sell billions of dollars-worth of yellowcake uranium for use, ostensibly, in electric power generation only.

Despite news that China has increased production of nuclear warheads recently, Beijing has committed to a safeguard agreement which reportedly prevents the use of Australian uranium in nuclear weapons. There has been no mention, however, about weapons use of the plutonium extracted through reprocessing of spent fuel.

Russia has not obligated itself to similar measures as the Chinese. Sources say that the Russians are perusing the issue.

Interestingly, while all these negotiations are occurring, Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has a bug in his britches to rid the world of nuclear weapons. Ironically, Rudd wants to sell the stuff that's used to make the stuff he wants to eliminate.

I'd suggest that Mr. Rudd order some new britches and then try to un-ring a bell. I'd also suggest that Australian voters elect someone else.

EA, Australia — Police arrested a suspect Friday in connection to one of the deadly wildfires in southern Australia that killed more than 180 people and left about 7,000 homeless.

Police did not release any details about the suspect, but a newspaper report said he was a 39-year-old man who would likely be charged with arson causing death in what police call the Churchill fire.

Correction - Per comments, the above dude is wanted for starting the fire at Ivanhoe not the Churchill fire.

Firefighters and distraught survivors searching through the scorched rubble of homes and other destroyed buildings discovered more bodies early today, raising the official death toll to 130. Officials feared the number might double.

AUSTRALIAN Muslims are "seething with anger" at what they perceive as the Australian Government's one-sided treatment of last month's Israeli incursion into Gaza, a Melbourne leader said yesterday.

Ramzi Elsayed, president of the Islamic Council of Victoria, said he had never seen the community so hurt or aggrieved, especially after acting Prime Minister Julia Gillard said Israel was responding to Hamas aggression after Hamas broke the ceasefire.

"It's as though they think one Jewish life is worth 100 Palestinians," he said. "Enough's enough. It's time to call the facts as they are. Israel broke the ceasefire on 4 November."

The leader of a Melbourne-based terrorist cell has been sentenced to 15 years' jail.

Abdul Nacer Benbrika, 48, of Dallas, was sentenced to a non-parole period of 12 years. He has already been in custody for 1184 days.

Justice Bernard Bongiorno in the Supreme Court said a terrorist organisation led by Benbrika had been dedicated to the destruction of non-believers but the group had not planned specific attacks despite the evidence of a key prosecution witness[ed..leftist judges also in Australia eh?]

Benbrika became the first Australian to be convicted of leading a terrorist group last September, following the country's biggest terrorism trial that lasted seven months and cost tens of millions of dollars.

The father-of-seven faced a maximum 25 years' prison for directing the terrorist group that the jury heard had discussed attacking Melbourne's Crown Casino and bombing the MCG.

Benbrika was also convicted of possessing a compact disc connected to the preparation of a terrorist act

Tourism officials in Australia are describing it as "the best job in the world".

They want someone to work on a tropical island off the Queensland coast.

No formal qualifications are needed but candidates must be willing to swim, snorkel, dive and sail.

In return, the successful applicant will receive a salary of A$150,000 ($103,000, £69,000) for six months and get to live rent-free in a three-bedroom villa, complete with pool.

An Australian MP, Fred Nile, wants to ban topless bathing in order to protect muslims. Mr. Nile stated that topless bathing risked "raising the ire of Muslim men". So that means he has received no complaints and is just acting in dhimmi fashion.

Who in they're right mind would want to ban topless beaches? Thats why Mr. Nile has received no complaints from muslim men, they're probably for them.

Conservative MP Fred Nile says he wants topless bathing banned in NSW to protect Sydney's Muslim and Asian communities.

The Reverend Nile has rejected allegations that prudishness is behind a bill he has prepared to ban nudity, including topless sunbathing, on the state's most popular beaches.[...]

"Our beaches should be a place where no one is offended, whether it's their religious or cultural views," he said.

"If they've come from a Middle Eastern or Asian country where women never go topless - in fact they usually wear a lot of clothing - I think it's important to respect all the different cultures that make up Australia."

The practice was at risk of raising the ire of Muslim men in particular, Mr Nile said.
