Sudbury Patch:

Tarek Mehanna, the Sudbury resident accused in a 2010 indictment of conspiring to kill American troops in Iraq, will ask a judge today to dismiss some of the charges accusing him of providing support to al Qaeda, the Associated Press is reporting in the Sacramento Bee.

The report says Mehanna's lawyers will argue today at Moakley Federal Courthouse in Boston that most of his activities are protected by the First Amendment in relation to free speech.

We are in a time of war you know. The enemy's propaganda network is a fair and crucial target. No war is ever fought, won or lost without propaganda.

Arrested Blogger Identified: Tarek Mehanna

Like clockwork, Mehanna's family defends him as a nice boy who just completed his graduate work to become a pharmacist. What his family may or may not know is that Mehanna goes by the online handle "Abu Sayaba" and runs the "Iskandari" website which is devoted to promoting the Salafi ideology.

For instance, Tarek "Abu Sayaba" Mehanna has, literally, dozens of posts recounting the words of Abdullah Azzam, the intellectual backbone of al Qaeda. Also among his favorite authors are Sayyid Qutb.

In addition to friends like Maldanado who has been convicted on terrorism related charges, Mehanna's online buddies include:

Shades of Swords, who glorifies the executed Bali bombers as martyrs.
Inshallahshaheed, who we have an entire category devoted to and who claims he personally doesn't go off to fight the jihad because "it's hard" and who recently has set up his own media division in support of terrorist organizations.
Jihad Fields Are Calling, who's name pretty much sums it up.

And so on and so forth. In other words, the people he associated himself with online are either a) actively engaged in violent jihad; or b) actively engaged in supporting violent jihad through the distribution of terrorist propaganda.

His chances of having this dismissed runs about the same as former Revolution Muslim Emir Zack Chesser who plead guilty to Material Support for similar dissemination and advocacy for al-Qaeda.

I put them at zero/zilch/nada unless his lawyer feels he's gotten a sympathetic liberal judge. Its clear he agreed with al-Qaeda, tried to join the Jihad and wrote many times in support of al-Qaeda and its war against the United States.

Only 2 1/2 days behind us now:

(CNN) -- Younus Mohammad, a New York native and Muslim convert charged with threatening the creators of the TV show "South Park," has been arrested in Morocco, according to the website he co-founded.

"Early on Friday morning brother Younus was arrested by Moroccan authorities," Islampolicy.com said in a posting Sunday. He is being held and awaiting extradition to the United States, the website says.

A criminal complaint against him, alleging the communication of threats, was filed in Virginia earlier this month using his English name, Jesse Curtis Morton.

Morton insists prosecutors misread a document intended to promote dialogue.
He once told CNN that Muslims are commanded by Allah to terrorize, though he said he did not read that as a call for killing civilians. He also professed his love for al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

"His arrest comes in the long line of Muslims who have been imprisoned for speaking out against the United States," Islampolicy.com said. "It is part and parcel of the U.S. war on Islam. It is a war, being waged on two interlink (sic) fronts."

The English-language website, a successor to Revolutionmuslim.com, propagates pro-al Qaeda views.

A senior law enforcement source had told CNN Morton was believed to be in Morocco.

A former resident of Brooklyn, Morton is the second person charged in the "South Park" case.

Wired: Tomorrow, Rep. Peter King convenes his hearing on the radicalization of the American Muslim community. One group is hoping all the scare talk about the — complete with some serious and “expert” scare talk about all those jihadis among us. But there are some other experts out there with a very different perspective on the subject: actual domestic radicals. Turns out, American jihadis are really disappointed in American Muslims for their utter disinterest in al-Qaeda. And no wonder: more than 99.9 percent of U.S. Muslims want nothing to do with the radicals, new statistics show.

Unfortunately, no homegrown terrorists seem willing or able to testify, either because they’re subpoena-shy, in federal prison or playing a high stakes game of hide-and-seek with American drones in Yemen. They’re a chatty bunch, though, and have left a record of their thoughts on Muslims and their representatives here in the United States.

Take Samir Khan, for instance. Before fleeing to Yemen to edit the jihadist magazine Inspire, he freelanced media support for al-Qaeda from his home in North Carolina via the internet. Khan was quick to bemoan American Muslims’ disinterest in his concept of jihad, playing it off as the product of distraction rather than disagreement.

“It is the culture of hating death and loving wealth,” Khan wrote of American Muslim culture in a post to his “Ignored Puzzle Pieces of Knowledge” blog, using a play on Osama Bin Laden’s classic catch phrase. “They don’t want to fling themselves into the spears of the enemies when they could be playing their PlayStation 3 or enjoying their favorite television show or sport whilst eating their favorite dinner meal.”

It was a sentiment he later echoed in the pages of Jihad Recollections, an English-language screed Khan published with fellow extremists. It became the template for Inspire. “Their Islam is limited to the more ‘acceptable’ parts of the Qur’an and Sunnah, whilst they shun Islam’s more controversial or antagonistic teachings,” Khan wrote of those promoting “moderate” Islam. “We find many of our fellow Muslims in America that are absolutely blinded by the inspiring play of American politics, the comfortable practice of ‘moderate’ Islam, and the denunciation of the Islamists.”

Answer: Not one!

Samir Khan AKA A Martyr Allah Willing has spent a lot of time glorifying the death of this or that poor Muslim sucker whom they sent to murder their fellow Muslim brothers. Its about time he put his money where his mouth is, Allah willing of course.

It seems that Allah is willing, Samir Khan not so much.

And after that aks yourself why Ghadafi released all those al-Qaeda just when he got really worried you might become free?

The Jewish Chronicle:

Jews were the most frequently targeted minority group in hate crimes in New York State in 2009, according to a report issued by state officials.

Anti-Jewish hate crimes rose by 15 per cent over the previous year and represented more than a third of hate crimes committed in 2009 in the state, the report issued last week by the Criminal Justices Services Division revealed.
The report came as a synagogue on the Upper West Side of Manhattan said it had received a letter on December 30 threatening to blow up the shul on New Year's Eve.

Ohab Zedek, an Orthodox congregation, was one of a dozen synagogues to receive the bomb-threat letters, Rabbi Allen Schwartz told the New York Post. "We have reasons to believe someone wants to spread fear," Mr Schwartz said.
Police evacuated the synagogue - a 1920s building known for its elaborate Moorish architecture - but found no device. They were unable to confirm the threats to other synagogues.

The state report found an across-the-board increase of about 14 per cent in hate crimes reported to the police between 2008 and 2009.

All the usual suspects are in a high dudgeon over the affair, led by Kim Zetter at Wired.com.

What can we learn from the story?

1. Yasir Afifi, of Santa Clara, California, has been under investigation by the FBI for at least the last six months, based upon a tip that he might represent a threat to US national security.

2. Yasir's friend Khaled posted something to a blog recently. Something about a shopping mall and a bomb.

3. A GPS tracking device was placed on Yasir's car by the FBI. It is likely that they had a warrant to do so, but the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals recently ruled that warrants are not needed in such a case.

3a. California is in the 9th Circuit.

4. Yasir took his car in for an oil change and noticed a wire connected to the tracking device. Doh! The mechanic removed the device and Yasir took it home.

5. Khaled posted pics of the device and questions about it at reddit.com.

6. Khaled's roommates smoke pot, but not to worry, this is California.

7. Yasir's car has expired plates, but that doesn't interest the FBI.

8. The ACLU says it's all because Yasir's dad was a Middle Easterner.

9. One of the FBI agents who recovered the device from Yasir is herself a Middle Easterner.

10. CAIR says this is a more egregious case than they usually see [because the Middle Easterner's don't usually spot the GPS device].

11. Yasir's boring - the FBI says so [of course, they might have been lying - in the absence of enhanced interrogation techniques, deceit is one of the few things federal agents can use to elicit information - and they don't need a warrant to lie to a suspect either].

12. Khaled's an idiot, or he's been smoking too much of his roommate's pot.

13. Did I mention that they probably had a warrant for the GPS device, but didn't need one anyway?

You know Zach. He's the overly confident kid from Virginia who got in too deep with extremist Islam and is now sitting in a holding cell waiting for a court date. Well, it appears that the initial reports about Zach offering to help the FBI once he new the jig was up are true.

Zach is a stool pigeon! Which is an ironic term to use when you think about it. I have a feeling prison will afford dear Zach a few stool related activities.

We all are aware that war leads to difficult situations. In regard to detainees, we've seen terrorists released only to strike again. Yet in the interest of justice we are concerned about detaining potentially innocent people. Difficult times, difficult answers. In summary, some detainees at Bagram are trying to use American courts to chisel their way out.

Last year, a group of people were asked to join in offering an opinion to the court. Those were: Special Forces Association, U.S. Army Ranger Association, Senator Lindsey Graham, Col. (ret) Abraham German, Wade Ishimoto, Prof. Andrew Nichols Pratt, Dr. Dennis Walters, Rear Admiral (ret) George Worthington, Michael Yon and Senator Ryan Zinke.

Tacoma, WA:

A local business owner is flabbergasted after a shipment of 30 toy guns for his store was confiscated by ATF agents in Tacoma.

Brad Martin and his son, Ben, sell the Airsoft BB guns from their store in Cornelius where they’ve been in business for seven years.

The Martins said they buy their stock from Taiwan because the merchandise is less expensive. But the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives seized a shipment of 30 in October. That shipment is worth around $12,000 and the ATF is promising to destroy the entire shipment.

Special Agent Kelvin Crenshaw said the toys can be easily retro-fitted into dangerous weapons.

"With minimal work it could be converted to a machine gun," Crenshaw said...

Ben Martin disagrees that the toy guns could ever be considered dangerous.

"To say these are readily convertible to machine guns is absolutely preposterous,” he said. “The round wouldn't go into the firing chamber and even if the firing pin did strike the primer the gun would basically blow up in your face.”

ATF said it also seized the toys because they are missing the blaze orange tips required on all imported toy guns.

It includes the audio of KSM's actual confession in his military tribunal held in 2007 at GITMO. It is difficult to watch this and not be struck by the lunacy of giving this guy a civilian trial. KSM is a war criminal, which is exactly what the military tribunal concluded.

Justice Ministry spokeswoman Katharina Jahntz on Saturday confirmed a report in Der Spiegel that a German observer would attend the trial to ensure that no evidence provided by Germany would be used to apply the death penalty.

This trial is indeed going to be a circus thanks to AG Holder living in a 9/10 fog.

The U.S. Treasury Department has added a German member of al Qaeda, Bekkay Harrach, to a list of terrorists who's assets are to be frozen and which American companies are forbidden from doing business with.

How effective are these measures?

Well, a Texas and an Oregon company are presently doing business with the Taliban -- also on the same list. After numerous complaints the websites are still up and as far as I know no action has been taken by the Treasury Department.

North Syracuse police went to 115 Elm St. in the village around 1 a.m. after a man called 911 to report that two men kicked in his front door and attacked him. One of the males reportedly was wearing a ski mask, according to officer Jeffrey Tripp of the North Syracuse police.

The resident, identified as Jeff Bush, 22, and another person in the home fought with the men, then fatally shot one with a shotgun, according to Tripp.

The other alleged assailant, who was fighting with the other resident, was also shot by Bush, police said. He died while being taken to a hospital, police said.
