Sandcrawler PSA: Wrong Goal Wrong Strategy

There was never any way to win in Afghanistan, there was a way to exact payback from al-Qaeda and the Taliban.

Weekly Standard:

Earlier this month, an American delegation led by Zalmay Khalil-zad, who was recently appointed U.S. special representative for Afghanistan reconciliation, met with Taliban representatives in Doha, Qatar. This was not a sitdown between two sides equally committed to winning the war. The Taliban, which contests or controls more than half of Afghanistan, knows the United States is desperate to leave and not even trying to win.

And that should have been the goal and the strategy, make the Taliban and al-Qaeda regret ever thinking about attacking the USA and leaving them flat on their back.

No nation building, no establishing a half-assed constitution either there or in Iraq.

Nope, go in there, break shit and then break some more shit and go home. If they get uppity again, break their backs and leave.

We just can't seem to get the simple things. You show that you can make them pay and pay dearly and then declare victory and walk out when its obvious they got their ass handed to them. Its the semantics. Extended conflict snatches defeat from the jaws of Victory every. single. time.

Afghanistan will never be anything other than what it has been. State crushing works so much better than state building.
