US Soldier Killed in Kabul Attack

Just a reminder that the Taliban are still there. And that our people are still in harm's way.

First Sgt. P. Andrew McKenna, of the Army Special Forces, was killed by a suicide bomb attack in Kabul, Afghanistan on Friday evening, according to U.S. Sen. Jack Reed's office.
McKenna, a Bristol native, was a 1998 graduate of Mt. Hope High School.

I join all Rhode Islanders in mourning the loss of Andrew McKenna," Reed said in a statement. "I've had the privilege of meeting Andrew and his family. Sgt. McKenna was an extraordinary young man with a big heart and a dedicated, distinguished soldier."

About a month earlier, Reed and state Rep. Raymond Gallison Jr., D-Bristol, honored McKenna by presenting him with an award for "coming the farthest" to the July 4 Bristol Parade.

"This is absolutely devastating to the family and the entire town of Bristol," said Gallison. "Everybody is just devastated."

We pray the Lord accept him and comfort his family.
