What Happens When The War Booty Runs Out
The Islamic State runs its operations by stealing oil and by stealing from the people they conquer. War booty they call it, its Halal they say.
Since its inception, ISIL has fought other groups and focused its operations on controlling oil fields in order to fund its existence and "push forward with its criminal plan", observers said. But what happens when the war booty is spent and the daily grind off actually running a state comes around?
They warned against buying black market oil originating from ISIL-controlled regions, as profit made from these sales "ensure the group's continuity".
In a July 28th statement, the UN Security Council warned member states against the purchase of oil from groups such as ISIL and al-Nusra Front and required them to "ensure that their nationals and any persons within their territory do not trade in oil with these entities".
"Such engagement constitutes financial support for terrorists and may lead to further sanctions," the statement said.
IN BETWEEN chopping off the heads of its adversaries, crucifying miscreants and committing acts of genocide, the Islamic State (IS), the al-Qaeda-minded extremist group that straddles Iraq and Syria and is being targeted by American airstrikes, is dealing with more mundane issues—such as the school curriculum. Its a lot less glorious running a School Board than doing Jihad. And the ISIS adrenaline junkies quickly lose interest.
This month IS called in teachers in Raqqa province in eastern Syria and set out new conditions for them to receive their salaries, according to the Syrian Observatory of Human Rights (SOHR), a Britain-based group that has a network of informants in Syria. IS told the teachers to dedicate more hours to Islamic studies, and to drop subjects including philosophy and chemistry.
