Democrats Now Have to Win War They Wanted American Right to Lose
It is important to remember that this all could have been avoided with a status of forces agreement. There is no evidence currently available that would lead us to believe that ISIS would have been able to make such advances if a strong American presence in Iraq had been realized, hence, solidifying our wartime success. Its took the immanent extermination of an entire people for Democrats to finally do the right thing. But it remains to be seen if Obama will follow through to ISIS defeat or just screw around long enough to appear to have tried no to lose the war he's been trying so hard to lose.
In my view, the failure of securing victory of hard fought wars is entirely politically motivated. In both Vietnam and Iraq, we have largely unpopular wars that were won by republican leadership while the anti-war and anti-American left did whatever they could to undermine efforts leading us towards mission completion. The anti-war left is a large portion of the Democratic Party’s voting base, and appeasing these zealots is high priority for democrats seeking political office. The last thing the democrats can allow to happen is for republicans to win wars that they opposed. This would mean that Nixon was able to do what LBJ could not, and it would mean that George W. Bush lead our country to victory against an enemy the left said we could not defeat.
To put it clearly, democrats lose wars that have been won in order to appease their voting base. These actions will have dire consequences in the future, and may lead to even larger and costlier conflicts in that region.
