Fort Hood Pt. II -- Active Shooter, Ongoing Updates -- One shooter dead -- Self Inflicted -- Shooter was "Soldier" -- ID'd "Ivan Lopez" -- Live Press Conference Confirms Soldier Being Treated for Mental Health Issues

UPDATE: Picture changed:

(Daily Mail)

Reports of a shooter loose on Ft. Hood.

Ft. Hood on lockdown and reports of several wounded.

UPDATE by Rusty: I rushed to the computer as soon as I heard. As per the "related" link above, this came too close on the heels of reports earlier this week of a "Ft. Hood like" attack in the works. Only we were told that the suspect behind those threats was in a mental institution.

But as I've asked several times now, why would the FBI and military post a warning that bases might be under threat if that threat had been neutralized? And now this on the very same day that I posted said suspect was in a nut house? If this turns out to be a coincidence, then it will be an eerie one.

But John Thomas Jr, the guy who sparked the FBI alert, has been in custody for several weeks now and yet the alert went out any way. This suggests, possibly, that there was a worry that there were co-conspirators.

Fort Hood confirms that a shooting has occurred at the U.S. Army post near Killeen, Texas, “and injuries are reported.” No further details were released.
KGENT is saying that 8 have been injured, 1 dead.

Expect updates.

UPDATE: Let me quote my original post from yesterday:

Law enforcement sources familiar with the alert said it appeared to suggest that there may be others in addition to Booker who also might have expressed similar intentions to commit jihad against U.S. military installations. [emphasis mine]
So, maybe this was a bigger plot? Of course, this is just speculation at this point. But the timing .....

Also, CNN reports that there may be more than one shooter.

UPDATE: KCEN just reported that one of the shooters dead.

UPDATE: The AP is upping that to 14 dead, but that there was only one shooter who is also dead (or one of the 14 dead, not sure)

UPDATE: Ed over at Hot Air has a report that the military now says that it was a single shooter, and that he's dead.

UPDATE: The AP is reporting that the Justice Dept. is already saying that the shooter died of a self inflicted wound:

Justice Department internal report: Fort Hood gunman dead of self-inflicted wound.
I don't have a link for that, but Tom Elia sent it to me and I just heard the same report on the TV station I'm watching.

UPDATE: The latest report is that the shooter was "in uniform" and that the DOD is saying it was "soldier on soldier".

But you know who else was a soldier in uniform shooting other soldiers? Nidal Hasan.

UPDATE: Fox News via Hot Air:

A shooting at Ft. Hood that reportedly left three injured Wednesday was a “soldier on soldier” incident without any terrorism link, a senior Department of Homeland Security source told FoxNews.com.
Given yesterday's alert about a "Ft. Hood style attack" on military bases, then an actual attack at Ft. Hood you can see why terrorism was the first thing to suspect.

But if this turns out to be anything but terrorism? You can expect in the next few hours that the narrative will turn to PTSD. And then the talking heads will begin to blame Bush.

Mark. My. Words.

UPDATE: The suspect is being ID'd on CNN right now as "Ivan Lopez". CBS:

Sources identified the suspect as 34-year-old soldier Ivan Lopez.
UPDATE: I posted a photo of Spc. Ivan Lopez, who was stationed at Ft. Hood and attached to the 1st Battalion, Warrior Transition Brigade from this link.

So, does that mean he helped those having a hard time transitioning from a combat zone? Or does it mean that he was being treated because he was having a hard time transitioning?

Thanks to Tom Elia for that link.

We're also now hear that at least four are dead. Not sure if that's four victims + 1 shooter. --->Apparently that was four dead, including the perp. So, our prayers go out for the families of three of them.

UPDATE: I think Iowahawk nailed it

Update: Mediate has this:

According to KWTX-TV, Lopez was an active-duty soldier, who worked as a truck driver for the U.S. Army.
So, if he was a truck driver but last year was attached to the Warrior Transition Brigade ... yeah, the PTSD/blame Bush thing seems kind of inevitable.

UPDATE: The press conference has finally started at Ft. Hood. We'll see if we learn anything new.

He confirms that 3 are dead, and that shooter killed himself. Injured are being treated.

No evidence related to terrorism, but not ruling it out. <--well said, normally these guys automatically rule out terrorism even when they have no motivation.

Being treated for "mental health issues" and PTSD, although hadn't been diagnosed with PTSD (undergoing diagnosis process). Was being treated for depression .... not wounded in action, no record of purple heart

Let blame Bush begin!

Used small sidearm, .45 apc Smith & Wesson

In addition, 16 others injured

So, we've come full circle. Nidal Hasan was at Ft. Hood to treat returning soldiers with PTSD, this guy was at Ft. Hood being treated for PTSD. Both were mass murderers under Obama's watch, but Bush will be blamed.

Not that there's anything political about this -- at least, as far as we know -- but some people make everything political.

UPDATE: As for the picture above, I am not the source of it. This is. It may not be the shooter and some have suggested that since the shooter was only recently transferred to Ft. Hood, it couldn't be him. [Ed: Picture has been changed.]

Possibly. Except that nothing about this guy adds up. A bunch of MSM sources report that he was 34 and still an Spc. (example here). He also was deployed to Iraq for 4 months and saw combat. So that was years and years ago now. The fact that he's been in the military for some time now and was still an Spc. says something about this guy.

Moreover, given his length of service and Iraq deployment he could have been stationed at Hood a few years ago and then just recently came back.

Just a theory, and I'm not that invested in it. But saying that since the above photo is 4 years old, this can't be the shooter just misses some basic things.
