Justice? White Charged With Hate Crime; Black Charged With Misdemeanor For Same Crime
Same crime, different charges.
A few weeks ago, a white man was charged with a hate crime after punching an elderly black man. The attacker videotaped himself committing the cowardly act. He deserved the harsher charge.
But now we are seeing how "hate crime" penalties are being used to dispense racially biased justice based on skin color. In a very similar case, a black man videotaped himself punching out an elderly white woman. But the Rochester police are only charging the attacker with misdemeanor harassment.
While misdemeanor harassment carries little, if any jail time, hate crime charges can add an additional 10 years in a federal prison.
That's white privilege for you.
