Awesome: Al Qaeda Hosts Family Fair in Syria
Non-Sarcastic Awesome: YouTube suspends al Qaeda Video Channel

So, you come home from a hard day killing apostates (ie, Shia) and beheading traitors (ie, that guy who didn't cheer loud enough) and just need a little down time with the family. With all the movie theaters closed down for showing too much forearm and the bowling alley closed because .... Zionist-Crusaders! What's a jihadi dad to do?

Hold a family fun fair, natch:

An event organised by al-Qa’ida’s branch in Iraq and Syria produced the bizarre sight of an ice cream eating competition between two young boys, while the militant group’s black flags hung in the background.

The event was part of a family fun day of sorts put on by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) during Ramadan, videos of which were posted online over the weekend.

The day’s activities included a tug-of-war between ISIS and members of Jabhat al-Nusra, another Islamist rebel group based in Syria, and a Quran reciting competition for girls.

That's ..... surreal, no?

But, as I've argued many times in the past, this is what evil looks like. Evil people are only evil in one area of their lives, while the rest of what they do was described by Hannah Arendt as banal.

After a good day of killing infidels the normal jihadi really does come home and act like the rest of us. For instance, this video of British jihadi wives in Syria illustrates the point pretty well.

Anyway the good news here is that the video linked by the article above has been taken offline and the user's account suspended. Thank God for small miracles, I guess.

UPDATE: The Daily Mail saved the video and uploaded it to their own website. Here's the segment showing the ice cream eating contest (you'll have to wait through the commercial). You can click the link above to see the tug of war clip.

Update by Howie: I found a working copy from Sky News that embeds much better. We'll see how long it lasts.
