Good News: Islamists Taking Over 4th Branch in Egypt

We've all heard that the ruling Islamists in Egypt flexed their muscles over the weekend and fired military officers seen as too cozy with the West. What went under the radar screen and is equally important is that they've also fired all of the editors of the state run papers and replaced them with more reliable apparatchiks -- namely, Islamists.

This latter phenomenon is much more indicative of the direction of Egypt than the former. Firing generals can be taken as a good sign by some of a civilian government exercising authority over the military. But replacing the former sycophants in the state run media with a new cadre of sycophants is the kind of move which signals that Egypt's revolution is less about democracy than it is about replacing the old system of oppression with a new system of oppression.

And although I'm against oppression in all its forms in all nations of the world, as an American let me suggest that who oppresses the Egyptian people is really none of my business. It's not that I don't care, I do, it's that I care more about us than I do about them.

So have fun with that Islamism thing, Egypt. Because you actually elected these guys then you get what you deserve.
