Possible Pipe Bomb Closes Capitol

USA Today:

A bomb squad is removing a suspicious pipe-like cylinder found in the street near the U.S. Capitol.

U.S. Capitol Police said Thursday the device was being loaded into a specialized truck operated by their bomb squad and would be taken to Quantico, Va., to be rendered safe. The police statement did not offer more specifics.

The small metal cylinder with some caps on it was found on Pennsylvania Avenue around 7 a.m. Thursday. Authorities haven't been able to determine what it is.

Roads around the Capitol will remain closed until the device is driven away.

Would it be wrong of me to speculate that there could be a risk of political violence from the Occupy Wall Street movement Vis-à-vis the Bill Ayers model?

I guess not.

Several influential New York lawmakers have received threatening emails saying it is “time to kill the wealthy” if they don’t renew the state’s tax surcharge on the millionaires, according to reports.

“It’s time to tax the millionaires!” reads the email, according to WTEN in Albany. “If you don’t, I’m going to pay a visit with my carbine to one of those tech companies you are so proud of and shoot every spoiled Ivy League [expletive] I can find.”
