'Linchpin' of Hunt for OBL's Courier Apprehended in 2004 in...Iraq

And another leg of the teetering Democrat stool of "There was no reason to be there and nothing good for us ever to come out of Iraq" gets knocked out:

The file suggests that the courier’s identity was provided to the US by another key source, the al-Qaida facilitator Hassan Ghul, who was captured in Iraq in 2004 and interrogated by the CIA. Ghul was never sent to Guantanamo but was believed to have been taken to a prison in Pakistan.

He told the Americans that al-Kuwaiti travelled with bin Laden. The file states:

“Al-Kuwaiti was seen in Tora Bora and it is possible al-Kuwaiti was one of the individuals [al-Qahtani] reported accompanying UBL [bin Laden] in Tora Bora prior to UBL’s disappearance.”

The picture that emerges from al-Qahtani’s Guantanamo file supports statements given in the last 24 hours by US officials, who named Ghul as the “linchpin” in the intelligence operation to find bin Laden.

So the source who gave up OBL's courier was caught in Iraq. Before Obama even set foot in the US Senate.

Whether or not Ghul was in Iraq before 2004 or traveled there to fight the US (aka, flypaper strategy), is irrelevant. That's where his jihad ended and when he became part of the intel operation to get OBL. AKA, thank the Bush Administration, the intel community and the military.

And this:

“Abu Ahmad al-Kuwaiti was a senior al-Qaeda facilitator and subordinate of [Khalid Sheikh Mohammed]. Al-Kuwaiti worked in the al-Qaeda media house operated by [Khalid Sheikh Mohammed] in Kandahar and served as a courier.”
Yeah. KSM. That piece of garbage that we caught soon after 9-11. When Obama wasn't in Congress.

Yeah. This whole operation was pulled off by Obama, all by himself and the Democrats, within the last week.

Uh huh. Will the left be thanking Bush now or later for this?

The CIA gained crucial information confirming the role of al-Kuwaiti from two inmates at Guantanamo Bay – Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and Abu Faraj al-Libi.

Al-Libi’s file, dated 10 September 2008, also refers to his contact with bin Laden’s personal courier, although he gives another name.

In another remarkable twist, the very next sentence in the document includes a reference to al-Libi living in Abbottabad, the town where the al-Qaeda leader was finally found.

We should have closed Gitmo, though.

Read it all - it's fascinating to learn all of this now. Why are we fighting to make sure Bush gets the credit he's due?

Because it's the truth. The historical record is important. And the Party of Clinton has demonstrated repeatedly in the last several decades that the truth isn't something that concerns them when their political fortunes hang in the balance.
