Taliban: We've Been Hacked!

Well, this explains a lot. My first day back and one of my biggest questions behind the scenes to the other Jawas was, "Where are the Taliban?".

The URLs of their main "Voice of Jihad: The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan" were all down -- including their backup and several related "online magazines" (eg, al Somod, and that of my oldest yet favorite online nemesis "Murchal")

The only thing I could find as of this AM was a backup of the backup here. It was working this morning, but the last post was dated June 1st.

As of this writing, even the backup of the backup is sporting an SQL database error message.

According to Wired's Danger Room:

Abu al-Aina’a al-Khorasani, an administrator an elite jihadi forum endorsed by the Taliban, warns in an online post that the “group’s main site and the site of its online journal Al-Sumud, have been the subject of an ‘infiltration operation.’”

Khorasani’s post on Fallujah forum warns online jihadis “to not enter any of the links that concern these websites, and not even to surf [the content] until you receive the confirmed news by your brothers, Allah-willing.”

I'd like to claim this one for myself, but the truth is I didn't do it. In fact, Wired speculates that maybe this was the work of the US military. In which case I say kudos and it's about freaking time.

And to my "good friends" Qari Yousef "Ahmadi" Mohammad, Zabihullah Mujahid, and Adil "Murchal" Watanmal I bid you a hearty .......

Thanks to Canoneer #4.
