Explosions Reported On Moscow Subway UPDATE: 2 Female Suicide Bombers, Dozens Dead; Terrorists' Website Hosted in US
At least 41 people were killed in two explosions that hit the Moscow metro during rush hour Monday, local news agencies reported.
The first hit the Lubyanka Metro Station in central Moscow about 7:56am local time (3:56am GMT), Russian news agency ITAR-TASS reported. Twenty-six were killed and 15 people were injured.
Sky News reported that a second explosion hit the Park Kultury station, three stations away on the same line, about 30 minutes later. AFP reported at least 15 people were killed.
RIA Novosti reported that a security source told the agency the Lubyanka station was hit by a bomb.
Interfax, quoting a Russian security source, reported the first blast may have been caused by a suicide bomber.
UPDATE by Rusty: Two female suicide bombers, between 24 - 38 dead. Expect that number to rise.
Here's a video from Russia's English language news service.
And some cell phone vid from right after the blast.
Forget Chechnya. This isn't a "Chechen" problem. This is an "Islamic Emirate in the Caucuses" problem. That would be al Qaeda's arm in several Russian republics, Chechnya being one of many.
These Islamist "rebels" operate two websites. Openly.
The most important of these is the Kavkaz Center, which today blamed the blasts on .... Putin's crimes.
The Kavkaz Center operates from Sweden where it openly supports terrorism and raises funds for Islamist terrorists in Russia.
I used to live in Moscow and have been to both the Lubyanka and Park Kulturi metro stations many times. I hope the bastards behind these blasts are found and killed.
