Good News: Jihad Jamie was online Buddies with NY al Qaeda Plotter!
The plot just keeps getting thicker and thicker. I'm not sure if the takeaway from this is that the plot to kill Lars Vilks has an al Qaeda connection; or if it is just that the English speaking online jihadi community is just so small that it was inevitable that "Jihad Jamie" and al Qaeda trained would-be terrorist Najibullah Zazi crossed paths?
In either even, this may not be such good news:
Mott said that last year, Paulin-Ramirez began spending considerable time on the Internet in Muslim chat rooms, befriending JihadJane and other Muslim extremists — including Najibullah Zazi, the Aurora airport-shuttle driver who recently admitted his plot to bomb the New York City subway system. She also began wearing fundamentalist Muslim clothing, including a hijab, or head cloth covering everything except her eyes. One also can't help but wondering if the fact that Jamie Paulin-Ramirez was from Colorado and traveled to New York to marry her future husband is just a coincidence with the fact that Zazi was living in Colorado but had lived extensively in New York -- where the plot to attack the subways and his co-conspirators lived -- or if there's something deeper going on here?Paulin-Ramirez left Leadville in September and traveled to New York, where she married an Algerian. The couple, as well as her son, then traveled to Ireland, Mott said.
One also wonders just what chat rooms they were hanging out in? But I suspect I know the answer to that one already...
Thanks to Aaron.
Update from Sinan: Better news still - she's been released in Ireland, which doesn't mean much in terms of guilt or innocence, but it does give her some room to maneuver. Stay tuned...
