The Abode of Peace To Begin Amputations And Stoning Executions

Do you ever get the sickening feeling the world is regressing instead of progressing?

The "Abode of Peace" is adopting the most severe forms of Sharia Law:

The sultan of Brunei reportedly announced strict Islamic criminal punishments to go into effect May 1. [...]

The penalties reportedly will include flogging, severing of limbs and death by stoning.

Islam often has alternate meanings for many common words. For example, what passes for "honor" or "respect" in Islam can be very different, even contradictory, in the rest of the civilized world.

"Peace" is another one. To most, "peace" is a concept of calmness, a time of harmony, or a lack of animosity or violence. In Islam, "peace" means an acceptance of subjugation.

It is ironic a country calling itself an "Abode of Peace" would seek to further enslave its citizens. Unless that country is Islamic. Then it makes sense.

OK Execution Takes Forty Minutes

So what?

A death row inmate spent forty minutes writhing in agony before dying of a heart attack following a new cocktail of drugs administered in a lethal injection on Tuesday night.

Oklahoma prison officials halted Clayton Lockett's execution after the experimental drug left the man writhing and clenching his teeth on the gurney.

The 38-year-old, who was found guilty of shooting a woman and watching his friends bury her alive, was declared unconscious ten minutes after the first of the state's new three-drug lethal injection combination was administered.

Three minutes later, though, he began breathing heavily, writhing, clenching his teeth and straining to lift his head off the pillow.

It later emerged his vein had ruptured.

This animal twice shot a young woman and then buried her alive. How long did it take for her to die? According to the other victims, the entire ordeal took hours.

So, cry me a river. Even after forty minutes of "writhing in agony," Lockett got off too easy.

Ministry of Irony: Radical Cleric Calls ISIS "The Dogs Of Hellfire"

When is a Radical Islamist too radical for a Radical Islamist?

When they are such butchers that even Muslim's refuse to live under them.

I tried my utmost in private and in public to repel all harm from all those affiliated with Jihad and the people of Jihad, however some of them are drowning in falsehood, evil and misguidance. Their main priority is to ruin the Jihad and not to do good towards it. The onus these words should be held by the command of the Islamic State of Iraq and their branch in the land of Ash-Shaam (Syria).

It has become clear for me with certainty and without a shadow of doubt that this group with its military and Islamic leadership, and whose actions testify that they are ‘the dogs of Hellfire’. And they are most deserving of the description of the Prophet (peace the peace and blessings be upon Him): “They kill the people of Islam and they leave the people of the idols [idol worshippers]. By Allah! If I live to see them, I will kill them like the people of ‘Aad were killed.”

Ha the irony is dripping. The solution to extremist killers is more killing. Islam the one trick pony.

9/11 First Responder Gets Street Name After Him

There were countless heroes that day. Hundreds of police officers and firefighters sacrificed their lives on that horrible morning. But one first responder was singled out.

Why? Was he more courageous than the others? Did he save more lives? No doubt, he should be honored with all the others who died on 9/11. They all deserve recognition.

But in this case, it appears the only exception is that he was a Muslim.

Endless concessions and accommodations to Islamic demands only give way to more. Not to rain on anyone's proselytizing parade, but why this guy? Why does this first responder get a street named after him? Because he’s a Muslim? What about the other hundreds of first responders who died that day? Why don’t they have streets named after them?

Is it because Mohammed Salman Hamdani is a unicorn? Is it really so extraordinary that a Muslim helped people that he gets singled out? Why is his sacrifice greater than that of all the other first responders who were killed?

Apparently New York City thinks so. And so does the Hamas-tied Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).

I'm all for honoring first responders, Hamdani included. But none should be singled out for special recognition simply because of their religion.

Bombshell: Emails Prove Obama Administration Orchestrated Benghazi Attack Lies

I'm literally speechless. Not because I didn't believe this already, just that the Administration would be so stupid as to put this in writing. Consider it a smoking gun. It's a press release, which I guess means I can quote it at length:

Judicial Watch announced today that on April 18, 2014, it obtained 41 new Benghazi-related State Department documents. They include a newly declassified email showing then-White House Deputy Strategic Communications Adviser Ben Rhodes and other Obama administration public relations officials attempting to orchestrate a campaign to “reinforce” President Obama and to portray the Benghazi consulate terrorist attack as being “rooted in an Internet video, and not a failure of policy.” Other documents show that State Department officials initially described the incident as an “attack” a possible kidnap attempt....

The Rhodes email was sent on sent on Friday, September 14, 2012, at 8:09 p.m. with the subject line: “RE: PREP CALL with Susan, Saturday at 4:00 pm ET.” The documents show that the “prep” was for Amb. Rice’s Sunday news show appearances to discuss the Benghazi attack.

The document lists as a “Goal”: “To underscore that these protests are rooted in and [sic] Internet video, and not a broader failure or policy.”...

In the days following the Knopf email, Rice appeared on ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox News and CNN still claiming the assaults occurred “spontaneously” in response to the “hateful video.”

In other words: lie to the public about the video so that they will be distracted from the Administration's failure.

Value Of A Modern Day Slave: $12.45

The slave trade is alive and well in Islam. Young girls are abducted and then sold as "child brides."

Most of the 234 Borno schoolgirls in Boko Haram captivity have been ferried abroad to Chad and Cameroon after they were married off to sect members on N2,000 bride price each, an elder told Daily Trust yesterday.

(Hat Tip: Jihad Watch)

2,000 Nigerian nairas equals $12.45 in US currency (as of today's date).

Of course, not all Muslims would condone slavery. Many would deny it is an Islamic practice. However, forced marriages and slavery is condoned in Islam. In fact, Islam's perfect example, Muhammad, traded and sold female captives a sex slaves . He also married captive girls.

Some will call Boko Haram extremists who do not represent Islam. Yet they are behaving as the Quran says they should behave - they are following Muhammad's example. So, what does that make them?

'Culling' Tornadoes Create Twitter Avalanche

As many of you may already know, tornadoes across the south have killed at least a dozen people, with more casualties expected.

For most of us, such news bring sympathy for the victims and the desire to help in any way we can. But for some on the 'tolerant' left, it is a source for amusement and humor:

Tweeters responded.

The interesting thing about the tweet above is that it came from a supervisor at Goodwill Easter Seals of Minnesota. Her name is Jeannette Madden (aka Chapman). Her public profiles are at linkedin and facebook.

It's very sad that, even as a supervisor for a charitable organization, this woman can find no compassion for those suffering through a deadly, natural disaster. She is so politically biased and so filled with hate, her initial response to a disaster is to mock the victims solely because the states in which they live lean opposite to her own political beliefs. That she would praise the deaths of ideological "opponents" - even children - confirms a disturbing trend of leftist hatred and intolerance.

I'm sure not all who identify with liberal thought are as insensitive and vile as this woman. Many on the right and the left respond to disasters in the same way - by putting aside differences and seeking to help those in need. But just as we demand Muslims to speak out and condemn Islamic terrorists, we also need the influential on the left to speak out against such disgusting bigotry coming from among their ranks.

Islamophobe Arrested in N.J.

Will no one stop this rampant Islamaphobia?!?

Police at Montclair State University have charged a student with filing a false report after an investigation determined that his claim that he was assaulted outside a residence hall was untrue, the school said Monday.

Navjoat Aulakh, 18, of Carteret allegedly said three white men assaulted him and called him an “Islamic terrorist” outside Whitman Hall Thursday night. An alert was issued to students and staff.

But in an email on Friday, Police Chief Paul Cell said an investigation determined Aulakh’s story was “fabricated.”

Like I've said all along, there really is such a thing as Islamophobia. But like racism, it's much more rare than our betters on the Left would have us believe.

Also, stuff like this always reminds me of that one scene from Blazing Saddles ...

Remember when the Left claimed that the US was the CAUSE of violence in Iraq?

Not that every one on the Left made this argument. Some, we'll call them 'realists', made a much more subtle argument that I don't think is in dispute: We weren't responsibly for the mess Iraq had become when we were there, but we were responsible for removing the only thing keeping the lid on it: the harsh thumb of a brutal dictator.

Ok, that's not a terrible argument.

But many others on the Left made the claim that our presence as an "occupying force" was the cause of instability and violence in Iraq. Remove the cause, and the violence is reduced. This kind of argument is neo-Marxist in origin and is very much in line with all neo-Marxist arguments: America is bad, mmmkay.

The thing that differentiates scientific theories from "theories" is that scientific theories are testable. They are falsifiable. If a theory predicts X causes Y, and then it can be empirically shown that X does not in fact cause Y, then that theory is disproven. (Indeed, scientific theories are not "provable" as many believe, but only falsifiable)

So what can we say about the theory that the US "imperialism" was to blame for violence in Iraq?

A pair of back-to-back bombs ripped through an outdoor market northeast of Baghdad on Tuesday, killing at least 17 people and wounding 42, officials said, the latest spasm of violence to convulse Iraq ahead of parliamentary elections...

Earlier Tuesday, the al-Qaida splinter group known as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant claimed responsibility for a wave of deadly attacks across Iraq on Monday, including a massive suicide bombing in a Kurdish town northeast of Baghdad that killed at least 25 people.

The bomber in the Monday evening attack in the Kurdish town of Khanaqin in the turbulent Diyala province blew himself up among a group of Kurds who were celebrating the appearance on local TV of Iraq's ailing president, Jalal Talabani, also a Kurd.

It's almost like the underlying cause of the violence isn't related to the US at all ...

The Courageous Story of Irena Sendler

Irena_Sendlerowa.jpgRosa Parks became a household name within days of her courageous stand in refusing to move to the back of the bus. It took over 50 years for another heroine, Irena Sendler, to receive the honors that she was due.

Sendler was a Polish non-Jew who is credited with saving over 3000 Jewish lives in Nazi-occupied Poland. Over 2500 of the lives saved were those of children whom Sendler smuggled out of the Warsaw ghetto and hid amongst sympathetic Poles. Sendler risked her life daily to try to save these children's lives but aside from an awards ceremony that was held in 1963 in Jerusalem naming her a "Righteous Gentile," her bravery went almost unnoticed until, by chance, a group of Kansas schoolgirls saw a brief mention of her actions and decided to investigate.

Sendler lived in Warsaw in 1939. When the Germans invaded Poland she joined the Zagota underground which specialized in helping Jews escape Nazi persecution. Sendler was asked to head Zagota's Children's Unit and she put all of her energies into helping Jewish children elude the Nazis.

When the Nazis built the Warsaw Ghetto in 1940 they interned close to half a million Jews in a small three-square mile radius with little food, water or medicines. Sendler obtained a pass that identified her as an expert in infectious diseases. She was allowed to freely travel into and out of the ghetto.

During her first forays into the ghetto she tried to smuggle food to the starving inhabitants but she quickly saw that these little food parcels made little impact. Together with Zagota, she determined that the best course of action would be to smuggle children out of the ghetto. Sendler began to devise strategies for doing just that. She sedated young children and hid them in luggage or in carts under garbage and barking dogs. She covered the children and brought them out under her legs when she traveled by tram. Older children were led out through sewers and by way of underground tunnels.

Many of the children that Sendler saved were "street children" whose parents had been killed or simply disappeared. Others were children whose parents Sendler had approached to convince them to allow her to take their children to the "free" side of Poland – and to the unknown.

"I talked the mothers out of their children" Sendler told interviewers almost 60 years after the war.

"Those scenes over whether to give a child away were heart-rending. Sometimes, they wouldn't give me the child. Their first question was, 'What guarantee is there that the child will live?' I said, 'None. I don't even know if I will get out of the ghetto alive today."

Once in Zagota's hands, the children were taken to orphanages and convents, or to Polish families, where they lived in hiding. Sendler recorded all of the names of the children on slips of paper which she stuffed into glass jars and buried in her backyard. She hoped that, somehow, they would be able to be reunited with their families, or with the Jewish community, after the war.

In October 1943 Sendler was arrested by the Gestapo who tortured her to try to learn where the children had been taken. Sendler withstood the torture and didn't reveal any information about the children or about her Zagota comrades, but her legs were broken and she was crippled for life.

Sendler's activities were almost relegated to the dustbin of history but in 1999 four schoolgirls in Uniontown Kansas read a short account of her story and decided to research the events for a school project. Their investigations evolved into a long-ranging project which brought them to Warsaw to interview Sendler. Following a presentation of their findings, including a dramatic presentation of Sendler's work, major news networks picked up the story and followed it through with more interviews with the elderly Sendler.

Today interested individuals can learn more about Sendler's activities and the lives that she saved through the Lowell Milken Center run Life in a Jar project which encompasses a book, a website and a dramatic presentation.

It'll bring tears. The good kind.

Thanks to Sol for helping with the post.

1695 Tour Book Contains No Arab Settlements In Palestina

While Jews can trace their presence in the Israeli territory back thousands of years, there were no Palestinian people in the area until recent history. In fact, according to this book, the very few Muslims and Arabs in the territory were migrant and season workers.

palestine_book.jpg

From the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict via Jihad Watch:

The author Relandi[1], a real scholar, geographer, cartographer and well known philologist, spoke perfect Hebrew, Arabic and ancient Greek, as well as the European languages. The book was written in Latin. In 1695 he was sent on a sightseeing tour to Israel, at that time known as Palestina. In his travels he surveyed approximately 2500 places where people lived that were mentioned in the bible or Mishnah. His research method was interesting.
He first mapped the Land of Israel.

Secondly, Relandi identifies each of the places mentioned in the Mishnah or Talmud along with their original source. If the source was Jewish, he listed it together with the appropriate sentence in the Holy Scriptures. If the source was Roman or Greek he presented the connection in Greek or Latin.

Thirdly, he also arranged a population survey and census of each community.

His most prominent conclusions

1. Not one settlement in the Land of Israel has a name that is of Arabic origin.
Most of the settlement names originate in the Hebrew, Greek, Latin or Roman languages. In fact, till today, except to Ramlah, not one Arabic settlement has an original Arabic name. Till today, most of the settlements names are of Hebrew or Greek origin, the names distorted to senseless Arabic names. There is no meaning in Arabic to names such as Acco (Acre), Haifa, Jaffa, Nablus, Gaza, or Jenin and towns named Ramallah, El Halil and El-Kuds (Jerusalem) lack historical roots or Arabic philology. In 1696, the year Relandi toured the land, Ramallah, for instance, was called Bet'allah (From the Hebrew name Beit El) and Hebron was called Hebron (Hevron) and the Arabs called Mearat HaMachpelah El Chalil, their name for the Forefather Abraham.

2. Most of the land was empty, desolate.
Most of the land was empty, desolate, and the inhabitants few in number and mostly concentrate in the towns Jerusalem, Acco, Tzfat, Jaffa, Tiberius and Gaza. Most of the inhabitants were Jews and the rest Christians. There were few Muslims, mostly nomad Bedouins. Nablus, known as Shchem, was exceptional, where approximately 120 people, members of the Muslim Natsha family and approximately 70 Shomronites, lived.

In the Galilee capital, Nazareth, lived approximately 700 Christians and in Jerusalem approximately 5000 people, mostly Jews and some Christians.

The interesting part was that Relandi mentioned the Muslims as nomad Bedouins who arrived in the area as construction and agriculture labor reinforcement, seasonal workers.

In Gaza for example, lived approximately 550 people, fifty percent Jews and the rest mostly Christians. The Jews grew and worked in their flourishing vineyards, olive tree orchards and wheat fields (remember Gush Katif?) and the Christians worked in commerce and transportation of produce and goods. Tiberius and Tzfat were mostly Jewish and except of mentioning fishermen fishing in Lake Kinneret - the Lake of Galilee - a traditional Tiberius occupation, there is no mention of their occupations. A town like Um el-Phahem was a village where ten families, approximately fifty people in total, all Christian, lived and there was also a small Maronite church in the village (The Shehadah family).

3. No Palestinian heritage or Palestinian nation.
The book totally contradicts any post-modern theory claiming a "Palestinian heritage," or Palestinian nation. The book strengthens the connection, relevance, pertinence, kinship of the Land of Israel to the Jews and the absolute lack of belonging to the Arabs, who robbed the Latin name Palestina and took it as their own.

In Granada, Spain, for example, one can see Arabic heritage and architecture. In large cities such as Granada and the land of Andalucía, mountains and rivers like Guadalajara, one can see genuine Arabic cultural heritage: literature, monumental creations, engineering, medicine, etc. Seven hundred years of Arabic reign left in Spain an Arabic heritage that one cannot ignore, hide or camouflage. But here, in Israel there is nothing like that! Nada, as the Spanish say! No names of towns, no culture, no art, no history, and no evidence of Arabic rule; only huge robbery, pillaging and looting; stealing the Jews’ holiest place, robbing the Jews of their Promised Land. Lately, under the auspices of all kind of post modern Israelis - also hijacking and robbing us of our Jewish history.

Don't expect actual history to be relevant to the leftist pro-Palestinian agenda.

Pro-Israeli Woman Now A Target Of Leftist Racism

This incredibly intelligent young, black student has become a target of leftist hatred because she has voiced support for Israel:

In case you don't remember, I did a few posts about Richard Silverstein and Jillian York of the Electronic Frontier Foundation. The EFF claims to protect the freedom of speech for anonymous bloggers, but director Jillian York came out in support of Silverstein after he maliciously exposed the real name and address of Aussie Dave.

Despite such exposure being very dangerous for Aussie Dave and his family, Silverstein is smugly proud of his accomplishment.

Now, it looks like Silverstein's new target is Chloé Simone Valdary.

Return of the USSR?

Just a quick thought on the US vs Russia hub hub. I trust we're probably not going to nuclear war, but if you'll notice the Russian aligned powers are acting as one. In a similar manner as Russian clients behaved during he cold war.

The result, Nothing moves on Syria or Iran. Those issues are on the back burner. Even the Norks will take advantage.

Russia gaining clout and has thrown a wrench into any effort to get them to use their influence on Iran's nuclear program or on Assad's chemical weapons.

If the US and western powers cannot act as one, or continue to act weakly Putin continues to win and some bad situations continue to fester.

The more things change the more they stay the same. It might be to our benefit to dust off some of those old cold war strategies.

But does this disturb me? Not really. The two big dogs fighting will tend to suppress the other conflicts to a point. Besides I've lived through the threat of world destruction before. Ourselves and the Russians had enough sense not to do it. I can't say I trust some of the other powers that far.

Meh. Just don't nuke me ;-)

UK: Liberty GB Leader Arrested For Quoting Winston Churchill

This is what the U.K. has become.

Quoting from the great WWII statesman Winston Churchill's literary work, for which he won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1953, has become a criminal offence in the UK - as it seems.

Paul Weston, chairman of the UK's Liberty GB party and a candidate in the 22 May European Parliament Elections, was arrested by the British police on 26 April for quoting a passage from Winston Churchill's book. [...]

Reportedly a woman, who found the passage "disgusting", came out of the Guildhall and called the police.

The passage Weston quoted was from Churchill's 1899 book, The River War:

How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property - either as a child, a wife, or a concubine - must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men.

Britain: The Face of Shiny Happy Slavery to the State

I love the UK. In fact, I'll be going there once again two weeks from today. I love the history. The cultural variations found all over the island. The people -- who are, in my experience, generous and warm at the personal level.

The British people live in a democracy. Yet, like most of Europe, they are slaves to the state. Many examples of this illustrate the point, but here's an example I saw while skimming the news this morning:

The Electoral Commission has been forced to make an embarrassing apology after allowing an extremist party to use a slogan featuring murdered soldier Lee Rigby.

"The party description 'Remember Lee Rigby' that was registered for use at the European Elections in May by 'Britain First' should never have been permitted.

I'll admit that the slogan is in bad taste. It probably shouldn't be used.

But whenever a political party has to seek permission from the government for its own slogan then we are not headed toward slavery, you're already there.

A happy and content slave with a kind and generous master is still a slave.

This is the model the Left in America would have us follow. Not theoretically. Not is some slippery slope way down the line kind of way. They want this here, now, concretely, in actuality.

Oh, wait, you think all this "the Federal Elections Commission must reign in the Koch brothers" rabble-rousing is just all fun and games?

Hammer time! Youssef al-Khattab Sentenced to 2.5 Years

Joey "Yousef al-Khattab" Cohen prepares for his new cellmate "Bubba"

Yet another foe of the Jawa is at last in jail. Joseph "Yousef al-Khattab" Cohen has finally been sentenced for trying to incite his followers to murder Jews.

And the reason that Cohen's incitement wasn't just normal, every day stupid internet incitement that no one really takes serious? As of 2010 nearly 1/3 of all domestic terror plots in the US had links to Cohen and his Revolution Muslim website. And the people he had ties to weren't just retarded wannabes like Jihad Jane, Emerson Begolly, or Terry Lee Loewen -- all one time followers or friends with Yousef -- but also bona fide terrorists like Samir Khan, Tarek Mehanna, and even Nidal Hasan. Yousef knew his audience and what they were capable of.

As many of you know, Joey and I go way back. Way, way, back.

Part of me is kind of sad. But only in that now what am I going to do after I've killed the arch villain? comic-book/movie sort of way.

The other part of me? This is the time at the Jawa where we dance:

A New Jersey man who used his Islamic organization’s Web site to advocate violence against those whose ideals he found offensive to his religion was sentenced Friday to two and a half years in prison — a modest term that a federal judge said he imposed so people would “understand the line” between free speech and criminal calls for violence.

Yousef al-Khattab, 45, renounced his postings during the hearing in federal court in Alexandria, asking district Judge Liam O’Grady to hold him responsible only “for what I say, not how other people understood it.”

Derisively calling himself a “clown” and “the Gilbert Gottfried of the Muslims,” al-Khattab said he did not intend to incite violence but would not make the postings today that he did years ago.

“I look back now, and I’m very wrong,” al-Khattab said.

Gilbert Gottfried is rolling over in his grave right now. He is dead, right?

Anyway, I have no idea if Joey feels actual regret for trying to get his readers to kill his own people -- Jews (with apologies to our Hebrew friend, but the guy was at least born Jewish)-- or if he feels that sorrow of getting caught and then having to face the consequences of his actions. I honestly don't know. At least in his public personae, he did undergo a change over the past four years or so since he and Jesse "Younes Abdullah" Morton, co-founder of Revolution Muslim, broke up.

Here's the thing about Joey that maybe he doesn't even realize about himself. Even after he and Morton parted ways and Yousef embraced a more moderate version of Islam, he remained a supporter of terrorism. It's just that, like many other "moderate" Muslims, he defined terrorism in such a way as to exclude acts of violence against "Zionists" and US soldiers.

See, it was an error of his youth when he supported Osama bin Laden and was threatening to behead me like a sacrificial Eid lamb. But supporting Nidal Hassan? There's nothing wrong with that!

Khattab quoted in al Qaeda's Inspire magazine edited by his (now droned) friend Samir Khan

And remember, he defended nuking Israel and praising Nidal Hassan after CNN ran a story about how the "former radical" had found true religion and had moderated.

But, who knows, maybe he's moderated even more since then? Maybe now he only supports Nidal Hassan and instead of nuking Israel would now be content with merely rounding all the Jews in the Levant up, putting them in concentration camps, and confiscating their property.

A very moderate position compared to his former genocidal tendencies.

So, while we will miss the not-so-friendly rivalry that existed for the past decade between the staff at The Jawa Report and the now completely incarcerated staff at Revolution Muslim, for the most part we will be doing the M.C. Hammer dance.

And as a courtesy, please Hammer, don't hurt 'em!

Jewish Students At NYU Served With Eviction Notices

This has happened several times in the past at other universities, but the culprits are usually pro-Palestinian activists. It is disturbing, to say the least.

"Dorm Storming" is a tactic used by anti-Israel activists at many campuses to slide mock eviction notices under student bedroom doors in the middle of the night, allegedly to let students know how Palestinians feel when served with eviction notices prior to demolition of their homes. The content of the flyers, including the frequency, number, and practice of such pre-demolition eviction notices is disputed, but that’s somewhat besides the point.

Students for Justice in Palestine frequently is the perpetrator of these dorm stormings, as happened at Northeastern University recently, resulting in SJP's suspension.

The point of sliding political flyers under dorm doors, rather than handing them out on the street as students enter and exit, is to intimidate students in their most vulnerable place, their bedroom, and at their most vulnerable time, while they sleep. That is why many if not most universities ban the practice.

Story Time!

Tales of Shckleford, Goldstien from the dawn of the conservative blogosphere.

The incongruity of the scene struck me as I handed Jeff a fresh bourbon. Details of his Socratic colloquy have long escaped my memory, but there were three or four guys and a girl or two in the college Republican group. This was one crucial factor in the toxic atmosphere: Jeff’s intellectual challenge to the boys amounted to showing them up in front of their girlfriends. Standing behind Jeff, meanwhile, were Ace, Rusty and Attila, who had been trying to mediate or at least keep Jeff calm.

Just as it seemed that fisticuffs were inevitable, however, Ace made a clever sarcastic jab that suddenly evaporated all the tension. You could ask Ace what he said and maybe he would remember exactly, but it was sort of an inside joke about Jeff’s rhetorical tactics.

Jeff burst out laughing hysterically and the frightening stand-off with the college Republican kids ended happily, although the kids certainly must have left wondering what it was all about.

If not for Ace they would have had to have Shackleford sit on Jeff, that would have done him in.

U.S. Fails To Object; Iran Gets Seat On UN Women's Rights Commission

woman_hanging_iran.jpg
(Sure, let's give Iran a voice in the proper treatment of women!)

Another politically correct blow to human rights, with the current Administration culpable:

The Obama administration on Wednesday criticized Iran's election to the U.N.'s Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) - but neither the U.S. nor any other delegation objected when given the opportunity to do so, thus allowing Iran to get the seat "by acclamation."

Iran will now serve on the CSW, a body dealing with gender equality and the advancement of women, for another four-year term, having already been a member since 2011.

NY Imam OUTRAGED By 9/11

Swiping title from TROP...

A New York Imam is outraged by 9/11. Not by the terrorist attacks, but by a museum video that has the audacity to suggest the attacks were carried out by Muslims waging jihad.

A prominent Muslim cleric is ripping the 9/11 Memorial Museum for planning to show visitors a short film on terrorists that will "greatly offend" members of his faith. [...]

After attending a screening of the film - "The Rise of Al Qaeda" - the religious leader objected to how it called the terrorists "Islamists" and described their killer mission as "jihad."

How about greatly offending the victims of 9/11 by whitewashing the ideology of the attackers? Let's hope the museum doesn't cave to this political correctness.

In related news, Sharon Otterman of the New York Times reached out to Robert Spencer for his take on the terminology used in the short video. Spencer wrote:

It is not the museum's job either to indict or exonerate Islam. They should not go out of their way to depict Muslims mourning 9/11, unless it is part of a presentation showing all kinds of people mourning 9/11. The museum's job is to depict the events of 9/11 accurately. That is all. The idea that it has to show Muslims positively in order to offset the effects of showing what happened on that day is as absurd as saying that a museum about the Civil War should have a wing about how nice some Southern slaveowners were to their slaves, to offset anti-Southern feeling arising from the institution of slavery.

As for "militant jihadist" or "militant/radical Islamist," these are absurd formulations that reassure jittery multiculturalists that Islam is really a religion of peace at heart, no matter what jihad terrorists do in the name of Islam. They arise as a response to the quite successful campaign by Islamic supremacist groups such as the Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations to tar any opposition to jihad terror as "hate," "bigotry" and even "racism." The museum should call the jihadis of 9/11 what they called themselves: jihadis. Mujahideen. Warriors in the cause of Islam.

Of course, the NYT article does not quote any Spencer's words. In fact, the NYT's article concludes with this ridiculous statement:

"What helps me sleep at night is I believe that the average visitor who comes through this museum will in no way leave this museum with the belief that the religion of Islam is responsible for what happened on 9/11," said [Joseph C.] Daniels, the president of the museum foundation. "We have gone out of the way to tell the truth."

If the museum leaves the impression that Islam was not, in any way, responsible for the events of 9/11, then the museum has failed. It has failed in presenting the truth, it has failed in informing visitors of the facts, and it has failed in honoring those who died as a result of the Islamic terrorist attacks.

Gun Control Ad FAIL

More evidence that gun control idiots have no clue how a gun works. Bloomberg's new anti-gun advertisement shows a weapon firing a bullet that includes the casing:

bloomberg-bullet.jpg

(Hat Tip: Gateway Pundit)

Obviously, the morons who put this ad together simply googled "bullet" and then grabbed the first image that fit the color scheme. (The bullet image they used is currently in the third row.)

Below the fold, I redesigned their ad to better reflect the group that made it.

UPDATE: It looks like the original above is a parody. But I think my parody below the fold is still legitimate.

Hammer Time: AQ Chief Bombmaker Killed

Al Qaeda's chief bombmaker, Ibrahim al-Asiri, is thought to be behind the design that went into the underwear bomber, Umar Farouk "Crispy Crotch" Abdulmutallab's, undetectable explosives. And we know how that "ingenious design" turned out? Sure, it had no metal parts and therefore could be easily passed through airline security but we're not half glass empty around here. Half glass full: the wearer now sings soprano and no one else was hurt.

I know, it's easy to laugh at al-Asiri and part of me says "hey, we should have let this guy live and keep blowing up more jihadis" if not for the likelihood that he would probably have kept improving the design of this and other devices over time. When the other side has no regard for human life, including the lives of their own foot soldiers, then failures like Abdulmutallab are viewed as human experiments in the furtherance of jihadi science. It's all fun and games as they prematurely detonate themselves all the way up until the point that they don't.

In any event, the other notable thing here is that al-Asiri and the 54 other jihadis killed in Yemen weren't droned -- a US special forces team took them out the old fashioned way. It's an interesting development. Since bin Laden was killed by SEALs a few years ago I can only think of one other time (offhand) that we've gone with boots on the ground rather than drones in the sky. That would be the SEAL raid last year into a Somali village which was nixed before the target was achieved. Am I missing any others?

Al-Asiri has been reported as killed before -- the last time in a drone strike -- but it turned out to be a false alarm. This time, at least if MSM reports are to believed, the remains were identified. The operators behind the hit are reported to have brought dogs with them to help them search through the hit zone and find remains, apparently to aid in identifying the targets. But maybe we got lucky and the dogs found survivors? Too bad Obama shut down our Black Sites and got rid of anything approaching harsh interrogation.

It's not clear that al-Asiri was even the primary target, for included among the dearly departed was also Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) leader Nasir al-Wuhayshi, who just last week showed up in a propaganda video talking to close to one hundred jihadis in Yemen. And if we just killed 55 bad guys ... Let's see here, 100 - 55 = time to dig deep into the bench and go to al Qaeda's third stringers.

INN:

Reports indicate that a massive US military operation in Yemen on Saturday and Sunday killed well over 55 Al Qaeda terrorists. Among the dead reportedly is Ibrahim al-Asiri, the chief bombmaker of the terrorist organization.

A 4x4 truck which the 32-year-old al-Asiri was thought to be in was ambushed by US special forces over the weekend, according to the Daily Mail.

The US special forces, who were dropped in by helicopter, reportedly took position by the road and waited for the truck to arrive before showering it with a hail of bullets. While the occupants managed to fire back, all were killed in the barrage.

Now is the time at the Jawa that we dance!

FSA Captures Enemy Combatant

syrian_hostage_baby.jpg

From Raymond Ibrahim via TROP:

According to Sham Times and other Arabic websites, jihadi social media networks posted the above picture of a child sitting on the ground while surrounded by armed men pointing their rifles at him. The caption appearing with the picture, purportedly posted by a supporter of the Free Syrian Army, is "Our youngest hostage from among the hostile sects of Kessab."

Kessab is a predominantly Christian Armenian village in Syria near the Turkish border. Earlier it was invaded by jihadis, who terrorized, pillaged churches, and prompted some 2000 residents to flee. Initial reports had stated that about a dozen families remained as hostages.

Since the picture appeared on Arabic social media, many have expressed shock and outrage, condemning the Syrian "rebels," while others cast doubt on the authenticity of the picture.

Of course, those wondering what the jihadis have to gain from taking such a picture and making it public would do well to remember that these are the same "rebels" who decapitate people and wave their severed and bloodied heads in front of cameras while smiling; these are the same "freedom fighters" who literally eat their victims on camera.

Surely "teasing" an infidel toddler - a subhuman - with their rifles and sharing it with their sadistic comrades via the Internet for a "laugh" should not be too surprising?

As horrible as this abuse is, it may get worse. The Free Syria Army has a reputation for parading hostages and, later, killing them so they can film propaganda videos blaming Assad's army. I wouldn't be surprised if this poor child ends up victim in one of those videos.

Out: Teen Girls Running Away to Hollywood in Search of Stardom -- In: Teen Girls Run Away to Syria in Search of Martyrdom

AustrianGirlsSyria.JPG

Didn't Guns & Roses have a song about this?

Interpol is searching for two Austrian teenage girls who they believe were tricked into going to Syria to fight for Islamist rebels.

Samra Kesinovic, 16, and Sabina Selimovic, 15, vanished from their homes in Vienna on April 10.

But the first hint their parents received as to where the girls might have gone was a spate of social media posts claiming they had gone to fight a 'holy war'...

n the latest posting they announced plans to marry so that they could become 'holy warriors' and in the messages they say: 'Death is our goal'.

The parents, Bosnian refugees living in Austria say the girls were "tricked" into going to Syria. Presumably by a guy in a limo.

Patriots' Day 2014

There are many ways to show you are a patriot.

By serving our great country, at home and afar. By caring for wounded warriors. By defending the freedom of speech, even if it means listening to things you don't like. By not being afraid to speak the truth, even if it means offending someone else. And by protecting our rights and looking out for each other.

Last year, Patriots' Day was about terrorism. But it should never be about that. It should always be about standing up for what is right.

He Is Risen *Sticky*

Photobucket

20:1 Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb.

2 So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.”

3 So Peter went out with the other disciple, and they were going toward the tomb.

4 Both of them were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first.

5 And stooping to look in, he saw the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in.

6 Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen cloths lying there,

7 and the face cloth, which had been on Jesus' head, not lying with the linen cloths but folded up in a place by itself.

8 Then the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed;

9 for as yet they did not understand the Scripture, that he must rise from the dead.

Oops: When Terrorism Goes Right (Part IV)

'Splodey Taliban:

A local Taliban commander was among five militants killed following an explosion inside a mosque in eastern Ghazni province of Afghanistan.

Local government officials said the militants were killed while they were making an improvised explosive device (IED) to carry out a roadside bomb explosion.

But remember, Mosques are off limits to U.S. Troops because Muslims would never use a house of worship to store weapons or build bombs!

Canadian Imam: A Beating Isn't Violence If It Isn't Agonizing

Just another example of words and phrases having a different or hidden meaning in Islam.

A Canadian Imam agrees domestic violence is wrong. However, according to him, it is perfectly Islamic and acceptable to beat women. You see, it isn't violence if it doesn't cause agony.

Sheikh Omar Subedar of the Imam, Islamic Society of Peel in Canada, signed the White Ribbon pledge to: "never commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women and girls."

But the White Ribbon folks should have explored his definition of "violence" a bit more closely.

At the Canadian Council of Muslim Theologians, the Imam writes, "Strike them: If the problem still does not get resolved then as a final resort Allah has permitted the husband to discipline his wife by striking her, however this does not imply that Allah is promoting domestic violence. The Prophet (P.B.U.H.) has made it very clear that the beating should not be agonizing in any shape or form."

Copy Cat Of DC Snipers?

It looks like the Kansas City sniper may have been copying the DC snipers in individual jihad. Fortunately, he was nowhere near as deadly.

Mohammed Whitaker, suspect in the Kansas City-area highway shootings, is charged with 18 felony counts covering nine incidents, Jackson County's prosecutor said Friday. Two counts are "A" felonies alleging he shot someone by firing into a motor vehicle. Seven are "B" felonies alleging he fired into a motor vehicle. The other nine counts accuse him of armed criminal action, Jean Peters Baker said.

There's no evidence to suggest that anyone else besides the arrestee was involved in the Kansas City highway shootings, she said. (Source)

At Least They're Honest: Pakistani Madrassa for Girls Dubs Library "Osama bin Laden"

It's a lot easier differentiating friend from foe when they're honest. Don't you wish all our enemies did this?

Jamia Hafsa, a religious school for women in the Pakistani capital Islamabad connected to the notorious Lal Masjid has renamed its library in honour of slain al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden....

“It is true that we have named the library after Osama bin Laden,” a source told AFP Thursday, speaking on condition of anonymity.

“He might be a terrorist for others but we do not consider him as a terrorist. For us he was a hero of Islam.”

A small printed sign stuck over the library door gives bin Laden's name and refers to him as a “martyr.”

Kassim Al-Himidi Found Guilty in Murder of Wife Shaima Alawadi

Kassim tried to throw off police by leaving an Islamophobic note behind after he bashed his wife's skull in, didn't work.

NBC:A broken family’s screams erupted in a San Diego courtroom after a guilty verdict was announced in the trial of an Iraqi immigrant who killed his wife.
As the defendant cried out in Arabic "not guilty," his mother-in-law flailed her arms, screaming "you killed my daughter," while his two teenage sons chose opposing sides.

Jurors found Kassim Al-Himidi, 49, guilty in the death of his wife Shaima Alawadi -- a bloody, brutal beating once considered a hate crime that was, in the end, an act of domestic violence.

After Judge William McGrath handed off the verdict for reading, several family members began screaming, including the defendant's oldest son, who yelled profanities, saying he disagreed with the jury's verdict.

Somehow I doubt that CAIR will be running this verdict on their blog?

Noted Friend of Convicted Jihadi w/ Mustache Fetish and Former Jawa Troll Sentenced for Helping Jihad Jane

It looks like all my old enemies from the Ansar Mujhadeen English Forum (AMEF) are all in prison now. I guess I can retire.

I'm too busy to go into the background of the entire case. Above I've posted part of a conversation between Khalid and his friend Emerson "Abu Nancy" Begolly as laid out in the federal complaint against him. Begolly was convicted of assaulting an FBI agent after they went to talk to him about his online activities in support of al Qaeda. The pair were part of a larger network that spent a lot of time online at the AMEF forum.

While it's true that most of their online friends form that forum are in jail, and that the forum also had a rather creepy obsession with me, Howie, and Aaron from SOFIR/Internet Haganah, contrary to popular belief I had nothing to do with any of their arrests nor have I been called to testify against any of them.

The fact that they've all landed in the federal penitentiary (or, in the case of Samir Khan, got themselves droned)? No, it's not a coincidence, but neither is it evidence that I had anything to do with it. It just means that a bunch of jihadis who couldn't help but draw attention to themselves by publicly stating their love of Osama bin Laden also happened to have mustache fetishes and angst about my sexual orientation. It's not causation so much as it is a correlation.

FBI Press Release:

PHILADELPHIA—Mohammad Hassan Khalid, 20, a Pakistani citizen and U.S. lawful permanent resident who resided in Maryland, was sentenced today to five years in prison for conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists. Khalid participated in a scheme to support, recruit, and coordinate members of a conspiracy in their plan to wage violent jihad in and around Europe. He pleaded guilty on May 4, 2012.

Khalid conspired with Jamie Paulin-Ramirez and Colleen LaRose, aka “Jihad Jane,” who were charged separately, in a conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists. LaRose also pleaded guilty to conspiracy to kill in a foreign country, making false statements, and attempted identity theft and was sentenced to 10 years in prison; Paulin-Ramirez pleaded guilty to conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists and was sentenced to eight years in prison.

In addition to the prison term, U.S. District Court Judge Petrese B. Tucker ordered three years of supervised release, with limited access to computers, and a $100 special assessment. The sentencing result was announced by United States Attorney Zane David Memeger, FBI Special Agent in Charge Edward Hanko, and Assistant Attorney General for National Security John Carlin.

Khalid’s co‑defendant, Ali Charaf Damache, aka “Theblackflag,” an Algerian man who resided in Ireland, is in custody in Ireland pending extradition to the United States.

From about 2008 through July 2011, Khalid and Damache conspired with LaRose, Paulin-Ramirez, and others to provide material support and resources to terrorists, including logistical support, recruitment services, financial support, identification documents, and personnel. Khalid, Damache, and others devised and coordinated a violent jihad organization consisting of men and women from Europe and the United States divided into a planning team, a research team, an action team, a recruitment team, and a finance team, some of whom would travel to South Asia for explosives training and return to Europe to wage violent jihad.

As part of the conspiracy, Khalid, Damache, LaRose, and others recruited men online to wage violent jihad in South Asia and Europe. In addition, Khalid, Damache, LaRose, and others allegedly recruited women who had passports and the ability to travel to and around Europe in support of violent jihad. LaRose, Paulin‑Ramirez, and others traveled to and around Europe to participate in and support violent jihad. In addition, Khalid, LaRose, and others also solicited funds online for terrorists.

For example, in July 2009, Khalid posted or caused to be posted an online solicitation for funds to support terrorism on behalf of LaRose and later sent electronic communications to multiple online forums requesting the deletion of all posts by LaRose after she was questioned by the FBI. In August 2009, Khalid sent a questionnaire to LaRose in which he asked another potential female recruit about her beliefs and intentions with regard to violent jihad. In addition, Khalid received and concealed the location of a U.S. passport that LaRose had stolen from another individual.

The Khalid case was investigated by the FBI field division in Baltimore, in conjunction with the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force in Philadelphia and the FBI field divisions in New York and Washington, D.C. Authorities in Ireland also provided assistance in this matter.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Arbittier Williams and Trial Attorney Matthew F. Blue from the Counterterrorism Section of the Justice Department’s National Security Division. The Office of International Affairs in the Justice Departments Criminal Division also provided assistance.

In light of Khalid's helping the Feds track down and prosecute his former associates, let me be the first to wish him pleasant times and a cell mate with a mustache that would make Tom Selleck jealous.

ABC Shows Boston Bomber's Boat Note

Dzhokhar-Tsarnaev.jpg

ABC News has released the contents of a letter written by Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. It reads, in part:

"The U.S. government is killing our innocent civilians, but most of you already know that... I can't stand to see such [bullet hole] go unpunished," says the handwriting captured in the image obtained by ABC News from a law enforcement official in Massachusetts. "We Muslims are one body. You kill one of us, you hurt us all."
As an Infidel, allow me to retort with my own letter:
"The Islamic umma is killing innocent civilians, theirs and ours. Most know this but refused to acknowledge it... We can't stand to see such [terrorism] go unpunished. We civilized humans are one body. Today We Laid To Rest A Hero

My father-in-law. Saw combat in Korea defending the Pusan Perimeter. Supported the troops in Vietnam while doing two tours in Thailand loading bombs on planes. He was an Air Force lifer, retired with full pension.

He taught me how to hunt deer. He taught me pretty much everything I knew about firearms. His job in the USAF was weapons. Yet he thought the 2nd Amendment applied to hunting rifles.

So he was also a staunch Democrat. The kind I look at and go "you voted for Obama"?

I don't care, I will always love and miss him.

RIP Pops.

Awesome: Russian Backed Separatists Said to be fighting Ukrainian "Fascism & Antisemetism" Requiring Jews to Register

Flag_Russia1914.jpg
Russian Imperial Flag

The tragic irony here is that despite this report, my friends in Russia will continue to believe that the "fascists" behind the "junta" in Ukraine are also "antisemitic" nationalists. When in fact it is their own government that is fascist. They honestly think they have a free media because they can watch music videos and late night TV runs softcore porn. Porn and MTV: the bread and circus of the New Rome:

Jews in the eastern Ukrainian city of Donetsk where pro-Russian militants have taken over government buildings were told they have to "register" with the Ukrainians who are trying to make the city become part of Russia, according to Israeli media.

Jews emerging from a synagogue say they were handed leaflets that ordered the city's Jews to provide a list of property they own and pay a registration fee "or else have their citizenship revoked, face deportation and see their assets confiscated," reported Ynet News, Israel's largest news website...

Consequences for non-compliance will result in citizenship bein g revoked "and you will be forced outside the country with a confiscation of property." A registration fee of $50 would be required, it said.

I use "the new Rome" here intentionally. I do not think Putin wishes to resurrect the Soviet Union, as some commentators are suggesting. Putin hates communism and hates the old notion of the "Soviet man". No, his lamentations on the collapse of the Soviet Union are because the Soviet Union was nothing more than the communist version of the Russian Empire. His real beef is that Russia has lost it's imperial greatness.

And you know what they call the Emperor in Russia? The Tsar. Which is just Russian for "Caesar". No, it's not a coincidence. They named themselves Caesar on purpose.

It's also the reason that the old Imperial Flag had the double headed Eagle. It represents Russia as the legitimate heir of Rome, both the Eastern empire in Constantinople (the eagle facing right) and the Western Empire in Rome (the eagle facing left).

Putin fancies himself Caesar of a new Holy Russian Empire. Or, at least, this is what he aspires to.

Thanks to Josh

The Putin is Hitler and the Ukraine is the Sudetenland Thing Again

A few weeks ago I noted that historical analogies can be both a blessing and a curse. A blessing when we learn the right things from correctly applying lessons learned from history to similar current events, and a curse when we make the wrong comparisons and thus draw the wrong conclusions.

Is Putin a modern day Hitler? We, especially in the US, tend to focus on Hitler's antisemitism and genocide when thinking about what made Hitler so bad. But WWII didn't start because Hitler was persecuting his own people. It started because he invaded country after country in order to 'protect' German minorities, to right the wrongs of maps that didn't mesh with his dreams of ethnic unity.

Given that, then, yes, Putin is a modern day Hitler. Over at Forbes, Paul Johnson agrees. But he takes the analogy one step further: The Western leaders are modern day Chamberlains:

What’s to stop Putin? The West is led by the modern equivalents of Chamberlain: President François Hollande of France is a political nonentity repudiated by his own compatriots; Prime Minister David Cameron of Britain and Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany have both ruled out the use of force to stop Putin from annexing Ukraine; and worst of all, President Barack Obama–the one man who has the power to stop Putin in his tracks–does nothing. He makes Neville Chamberlain seem like a bellicose activist.
Johnson goes on to say that we need to intervene militarily now, before it's too late. As I noted before, it's the same argument that Shirer made in The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich -- had the Western powers intervened when Hitler sent troops into the Rhineland they would have nipped the problem in the bud before Germany had fully built up their military.

The question is ... what should our response be to Putin? Send the military into Ukraine to ensure that Putin doesn't invade is Johnson's idea. He thinks Putin wouldn't dare invade the remaining portions of Ukraine if US/NATO troops were there.

Me? I'm not so sure. If I understand correctly, the US has zero tanks left in Europe. I've no idea how many our NATO allies have but I can't imagine it would be enough to stop a land invasion through the Ukrainian steppe. We have air and sea superiority, but that only goes so far.

Also, the Ukraine isn't a member of NATO. We have no obligation to help it. If the Ukraine wanted our help, it should have signed on the dotted line years ago.

I guess there are two questions that I don't have great answers for: Should we even try to deter Putin from more land grabs so he won't try the same thing in NATO countries like Latvia & Estonia (also with large ethnic Russian enclaves)? And if we should try to nip this in the bud, then what are our feasible options given our weakened post-Cold War military stance in Europe and Europe's chronic under-spending on the military?

Mark Steyn on Freedom of Speech

The whole thing is a must read, here's a teaser:

I heard a lot of that kind of talk during my battles with the Canadian ‘human rights’ commissions a few years ago: of course, we all believe in free speech, but it’s a question of how you ‘strike the balance’, where you ‘draw the line’… which all sounds terribly reasonable and Canadian, and apparently Australian, too. But in reality the point of free speech is for the stuff that’s over the line, and strikingly unbalanced. If free speech is only for polite persons of mild temperament within government-policed parameters, it isn’t free at all. So screw that....

As it happens, the biggest ‘safe space’ on the planet is the Muslim world. For a millennium, Islamic scholars have insisted, as firmly as a climate scientist or an American sophomore, that there’s nothing to debate. And what happened? As the United Nations Human Development Programme’s famous 2002 report blandly noted, more books are translated in Spain in a single year than have been translated into Arabic in the last 1,000 years. Free speech and a dynamic, innovative society are intimately connected: a culture that can’t bear a dissenting word on race or religion or gender fluidity or carbon offsets is a society that will cease to innovate, and then stagnate, and then decline, very fast.

As American universities, British playwrights and Australian judges once understood, the ‘safe space’ is where cultures go to die.

Read it all.

Man Beats Son To Death, Set Free Under Sharia Law

Are we really considering allowing Sharia law in our court system?

ABU DHABI // A father who whipped his 12-year-old son to death has had his one-year jail sentence overturned by the court of cassation.

Emirati R M admitted repeatedly hitting his son with an electrical wire and a cane, claiming he only wanted to discipline him for poor school grades.

The beating was so severe the son was left unconscious and covered in blood.

He was driven to hospital by his mother where he was declared dead.

Prosecutors originally charged R M with causing death by beating, which holds a maximum jail term of 15 years.

At the first trial in Abu Dhabi Criminal Court, the charge was changed to premeditated murder.

As the boy’s heirs, the father’s parents, waived their rights to a death sentence, R M was sentenced to three years in jail and a blood money settlement of Dh200,000.

His sentence was later reduced by the appeals court to one year, as the boy’s mother also waived her right to blood money.

On Wednesday, the court of cassation ruled that the heirs should not have been consulted in this case.

The law states that a father cannot be charged with premeditated murder unless he confesses, which R M did not, or if it was a straightforward murder act.

In this case, as the tools he used to kill his son were not weapons, it proved it was an attack driven by anger and not planned.

Also, Sharia states that a parent cannot be executed for killing his or her own child.

Cleveland: Muslim Cabdrivers Refusing Airport Duty Over Gay Games

As J.P. Travis at IHateTheMedia points out, Christian bakers and photographers are prosecuted and run out of business for refusing to perform at gay weddings.

But don't expect leftists to go after Muslims for similar refusals.

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Some drivers of the zone-based taxis operating out of Cleveland Hopkins International Airport have notified their companies they don't want to drive the cabs for religious reasons, citing rooftop placards that are advertising the upcoming Gay Games.

Hopkins released a statement saying that two of the three taxi companies operating at the airport -- Ace and Yellow Taxi – were informed by several of their drivers they will no longer participate in the airport's dedicated taxi cab program.

Patrick Keenan, general manager for the third company, Americab, said two of his drivers also have opted not to drive because of the Gay Games ads. The drivers are Muslims, Keenan and Hopkins spokeswoman Jackie Mayo said.

'Heroic Restraint'

Regardless of how you feel about the Confederate flag, what it boils down to is this: two students carry a piece of cloth in exercise of their first amendment rights and the school praises minority students for not resorting to violence.

SOUTH HUNTINGTON, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) – Two Long Island high school students have been suspended for allegedly bringing a Confederate flag to school.

Brother Gary Cregan, principal of St. Anthony's High School in South Huntington, said the two seniors walked in with a Confederate flag draped around their shoulders during an after-hours sporting event at the school.

As CBS 2′s Kathryn Brown reported, there is outrage and disgust on Long Island.

"The African-American students who immediately saw it really exercised heroic restraint and fortunately a teacher immediately confiscated the flag and took the students out of the gym," Cregan said.

This is indicative of what is wrong with today's educational system. In this one incident, the school administration displays its ignorance, its political correctness, its intolerance, and its double standard for acceptable violence.

Frankly, African Americans should be offended more by the principal's comments about 'heroic restraint.' Is he suggesting blacks are more prone to violence so it takes some grand effort just to behave civilly?

That's sounds horribly racist if you ask me, even more so than carrying a Confederate flag. Really, which is more 'heroic' - restraining from committing violence against someone displaying something you don't like, or carrying a harmless, albeit controversial, symbol in such a hostile environment?

*Secret* Document Surprises No One: Afghanistan Not Ready to Govern Self

When I read the headline over at the Washington Times regarding a super-secret State Department memo that claims that Afghanistan won't be ready to govern itself by the time US troops pull out I had to laugh out loud (LOLing, to you younger readers).

That is a .... secret?

Confidential U.S. assessments, which the State Department tried to hide from the public, show nearly all Afghan Cabinet ministries are woefully ill-prepared to govern after the U.S. withdraws its troops, often describing the gaps in knowledge, capability and safeguards as “critical” and describing an infrastructure in danger of collapsing if left to its own accord.
Earth to Captain Obvious: how can something that every single person in America knows* be a "secret"?

*I use know here as an epistemological certainty

UN Human Rights Expert: UK Is Most Sexist Country On Earth

Some of you may immediately ask, "but what about Islamic countries that allow men to legally abuse women and prevent them from leaving the house? What about countries that demand women provide witnesses to rape or face execution? What about countries that don't allow women to drive, to vote, or even leave their own house without a man's permission? What about countries that ignore 'honor killings'? What about countries that still allow slavery? What about places that publicly beat women for not covering their bodies?"

You have to be kidding. Those things are nowhere as bad or as sexist as availability of porn or taking pictures on a subway.

Sexism in Britain is more widespread than in any other country due to a 'boys' club culture', a United Nations official has concluded.

Rashida Manjoo, a South African human rights expert, was charged by the UN Humans Rights Council to monitor violence against women in the UK and report back to them. [...]

In particular, she highlighted "the easy availability of porn, the use of social media including influencing young children around images" and "harassment on the [London] Tubes", referencing the current 'Women Who Eat On Tubes' trend of people taking pictures of women eating on the London Undergound, and posting them onto Facebook.

And, in case you are wondering, Manjoo is a Muslim. That may explain why she completely ignores the abuses of women in Islamic countries while condemning western countries.

FBI: Real Terrorist Threat Isn't From Middle Eastern Men But U.S. Citizens Talking About Big Government

An FBI agent walks into a gun store...

Sounds like the start of a bad joke. But, unfortunately, it isn't.

From SHTF Plan via Gateway Pundit:

After showing proper identification, the agent told the shop owners that he was tasked with all the gun shops in the general area and that he was charged with investigating "suspicious purchases" in accordance with counterterrorism operations.

The suspicious purchases he mentioned, however, were completely normal transactions. This included, paying with cash, purchasing long guns, and other similarly innocuous behavior.

However, what surprised the owners the most was his statement regarding what he was most interested in tracking.

According to the witness, the agent stated, "If you see some Middle Eastern guy come in. You don't have to be so worried about that. What we're really looking for are people talking about being sovereign such as sovereign citizens or people talking about Big Government."

Hundreds Of Al Qaeda Members And Leaders Gather; Obama Administration Misses The Boat

From CNN:

A new video shows what looks like the largest and most dangerous gathering of al Qaeda in years. And the CIA and the Pentagon either didn't know about it or couldn't get a drone there in time to strike.

U.S. officials won't comment on that, but every frame of the video is now being analyzed by the United States.

In the middle of the clip, the man known as al Qaeda's crown prince, Nasir al-Wuhayshi, appears brazenly out in the open, greeting followers in Yemen. Al-Wuhayshi, the No. 2 leader of al Qaeda globally and the head of al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, has said he wants to attack the United States. But in the video, he looks unconcerned that he could be hit by an American drone.

The video started appearing on jihadist websites recently, drawing the attention of U.S. officials and global terrorism experts. U.S. officials say they believe it's authentic.

Hit Them Wherever You Find Them And Call Them Poopy Heads

Islam classes in German schools are producing more hatred for non-Muslim. Yet one German dhimmi disagrees. Germany's Education Minister claims Islam spreads peace. No where in the curriculum, he says, does it command Muslim students to hit [non-Muslims] when you find them (@ 00:37).

Of course, the Quran doesn't say to hit non-Muslims so why should the curriculum say it? Either this Minister is completely clueless or he is hoping no one will find out, what the Quran actually says is "kill them wherever you find them." (v. 2:191)

Let's not let facts get in the way of a good, multicultural narrative...

Kansas City Shooting is Terrorism, Not 'Hate Crime'

What exactly is this mythical 'hate crime' that Frazier Glenn Cross, the man who opened fire at a Jewish center in Kansas, is going to be prosecuted for? The problem I have with 'hate crimes' is not that I don't think that what he did deserves a separate and distinct legal category from ordinary 1st degree murder, it's that we already have a legally distinct category. We call this category "terrorism".

Motive does actually matter in the committing of a crime. For instance, motive is what distinguishes murder from manslaughter. In the former you intended to kill the victim, in the latter you accidentally killed the victim through some act of negligence.

Mens rea is what lawyers call it -- the guilty mind.

The problem I and others have with "hate crimes" is that our betters in Washington have decided that hate as a motive for murder deserves more punishment than, say, greed as a motive for murder. I'll agree that if you accidentally kill someone I know I will be less angry than if you intentionally kill someone I know, but I can't see me being less angry or feeling less violated if you killed him because you wanted his money vs. killing him because he was Jewish.

If I may paraphrase my old skate-boarder buddies: hate is not a crime.

But terrorism is a crime treated differently than other crimes and much (but not all) of what passes for 'hate crimes' is actually just terrorism.

In this case for instance I have no problem calling this particular piece of excrement a terrorist. The fact that he actually killed no Jewish people in his murder spree only shows that he, like most terrorists, was an idiot. The point of his act of terrorism, like all acts of terrorism, was to kill people belonging to a particular class of people (in this case, Jews) in order to send a message to all people in that class: be afraid, be terrorized.

Hence, the oldest terrorist group in the US remains the Ku Klux Klan and those groups related to it. When the Klan would burn a cross on a black family's lawn, they did so not just to intimidate that particular family. No, they did it to intimidate (terrorize) all black families who might challenge the status quo.

Killing random Jews (or trying to kill Jews) is an act of terrorism in the same way that blowing up a pizza shop in Israel is. The perpetrators in both cases aren't targeting an individual out of jealously, greed, or avarice like the more common murderers. The perpetrators are instead randomly killing Jews (or in the Kansas case trying to kill Jews) in order to intimidate all Jews.

The best definition of terrorism is something like this: the intentional targeting of civilians by non-state actors in order to cause fear or intimidation in the furthering of political goals.

This is exactly what our suspect in Kansas City was doing. The fact that his larger political goal -- some sort of white supremacy -- is not feasible and based on delusional conspiracy theories of the ZOG (Zionist Occupied Government) really doesn't matter. In fact, many al Qaeda types would agree with the paranoid ZOG theories and would only replace white control with Islamic control.

Now you might argue that my objection to hate crimes is simply semantic, that in the end what matters is that we recognize that pieces of crap who commit crimes aimed at a race or class deserve prison sentences longer than ordinary criminals and so whether we call them 'hate criminals' or 'terrorists' the outcome is the same.

Maybe. But it seems to me that semantics actually matter a whole lot more than such dismissiveness.

By acquiescing to that am I not acquiescing to the very notion that hate is a bad thing? It seems to me that much of squishy modern thinking starts with that premise, but it is a premise that I cannot agree with. Hate, in my mind, can be a valuable emotion under certain conditions and in certain contexts.

I, personally, hate terrorists. I kind of count that as a good thing.

WaPo:

The suspect, Frazier Glenn Cross, who also used the name Frazier Glenn Miller, is believed to have links to various hate groups. He was a former “grand dragon” of the Carolina Knights of the Ku Klux Klan.

The hate crime designation means that Cross could face both federal and state charges in connection to the killings at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City and at the Village Shalom Retirement Center, both in Overland Park, Kan., a Kansas City suburb.

“The U.S. attorney’s office will file hate crime charges against the defendant,” said Barry Grissom, U.S. attorney for the District of Kansas. “We will be presenting it to the grand jury in the not too distant future.” ...

Rabbi Herbert Mandl, chaplain for the Overland Park Police Department, told CNN that the shooter was shouting neo-Nazi slogans as he was taken away. Mandl also said he was asking people whether they were Jewish before he fired. And KCTV reported he was yelling “Heil Hitler” during the arrest.

None of the victims of the shooting were identified as Jewish, authorities said.

Also, I hate this guy.

Hypocrite Harry Reid: "It's Not Over."

Harry Reid responds to BLM backing down in seizing Clive Bundy's ranch:

"It's not over. We can't have an American people that violate the law and then just walk away from it."

Had the report who took that quote had any balls, he would have asked Reid about his missing campaign money. Or the millions of illegal immigrants pouring into our country. Or the continued persecution of George Zimmerman, despite a trial acquittal. Or ACORN voter fraud. Or the Del Webb land swap. Or fast & furious. Or the IRS targeting right-wing groups. Or Obamacare delays. Or countless other illegal activities by Reid and this administration.

Freedom Outpost writes:

No greater example of hypocrisy has ever been seen in history than the likes of Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV), Barack Hussein Obama, and Eric "You don't want to go there, Buddy" Holder. These individuals are the epitome of repeated lawbreakers who function with impunity. As the stand-off between the Bureau of Land Management and Cliven Bundy winds down, for the moment, in Nevada, Sen. Harry Reid, on Monday, told KRNV- TV, "Well, it's not over. We can't have an American people that violate the law and then just walk away from it. So, it's not over." [...]

If you have any doubt what a lawbreaker looks like, take a good look in the mirror then look at your "idol" Obama and his sidekick, Holder. When you are done with that, continue on to Nancy Pelosi, Dianne Feinstein and every Democrat in Congress. You can also include every Republican in Name Only under the lawbreaker status. Every alphabet agency in Wash**ton (yes, this is intentional), DC is also filled with lawbreakers: Lois Lerner, Jeh Johnson, Kathleen Sebelius, James Clapper, Keith Alexander - but, you get the picture.

The entire Wash**ton, DC area is littered with lawbreakers and traitors who walk around with impunity. You might take a look at history, Mr. Reid. You will learn that Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were put to death after being convicted of treason for less infractions than what has been committed by the likes of you and your ilk in the nation's capital.

Israeli Hackers Expose Anonymous Members

Israeli_Elite_Force_Hackers_Official_Twitter_Logo.jpeg

Israeli hackers hijacked the webcams of several Anonymous members and posted their images online:

Israeli hackers have gone on the offensive against their anti-Israel opponents in revenge for the #OpIsrael hacking attack against Israeli sites and servers.

After the failed "operation" by members of the "Anonymous" hacker network, Israeli hackers from Israel Elite Force took the fight to them - robbing them of their anonymity by posting details and even photos of some of the hackers on their website.

The hacker behind the counterattack, an Israeli known as "Buddhax", said that he did it to make anti-Israel hackers "think twice" before attacking Israeli sites, and to expose them as amateurs. [...]

After infiltrating the target computers via a Trojan horse, he managed to lure the hapless hackers to their computers and take pictures of them using their own webcams - which he promptly posted online together with a list of personal information and a direct message to his targets: "Next time don't take part in OpIsrael. Long live Israel."

Abu Hamza Trial Begins

Jury selection has started in the trial of the hooked handed Mustafa Kamel Musfa, the al Qaeda supporter better known as Abu Hamza. Let the fun begin:

Jury selection begins on Monday in the trial of a disabled Egyptian Islamic preacher who was extradited from Britain on charges he conspired to support al-Qaida, in part by trying to create a training camp in Oregon 15 years ago....

Prosecutors say Mustafa conspired to support al-Qaida by trying in 1999 to set up a terrorist training camp in Bly, Oregon, by arranging for others to attend an al-Qaida training camp in Afghanistan, and by ensuring there was satellite phone service for hostage takers in Yemen in 1998 who abducted two American tourists and 14 others.

Too bad we can't give this guy the death penalty.

A Dutch teen at the centre of an airline bomb hoax scare has been arrested in Rotterdam.

Twitter user @QueenDemetriax, who calls herself Sarah on the website, sent an apparently threatening tweet to American Airlines on Sunday morning and within minutes received a reply from the airline saying her IP address had been forwarded to the FBI.

Dutch police have today confirmed they have arrested a 14-year-old over the incident, which saw the girl inundated with angry messages.

Cowboys Win

cowboys_at_bundy_ranch.jpg

We at TJR haven't posted on the Bundy Ranch standoff, but we have been keeping a watch on the developments. As most of you already know, the government has backed down. Clive Bundy will keep his cattle. At least, those that survived.

But this dangerous situation wasn't about cattle or endangered desert tortoises. This was something much bigger. It was a shot across the bow in an ultimate confrontation between big government and free citizens. This meme illustrates the absurd claims by the government that the seizure of Bundy's herd was about endangered wildlife:

Bundy-ranch.jpg

There is speculation, probably accurate, that Harry Reid is behind this standoff. Reid and his eldest son are in a deal with a Chinese contractor to build a giant solar plant. How will that affect the desert tortoise's habitat? Quite a bit, I would guess.

But it was never about the tortoise.

The tortoise was just an excuse to flex government muscle. What the government didn't expect was American citizens - the militias - to flex back. And that they did, beyond anything modern federal authorities have ever seen in this country.

Hopefully, this confrontation isn't a prelude to something much bigger. If it is, we will each have to decide whether we are willing to sacrifice to collectively defend our individual rights or are content to be mere observers. Either way, we will all be witness to this history in the making.

There's an old Chinese saying, "May you live in interesting times." Interesting is not synonymous with pleasant or safe. It can also have negative meaning. In fact, the Chinese expression quoted is often considered a curse.

We certainly do live in interesting times.

Islam To Replace Ethics In Norway School (And Other Islamophobe News)

A school in Norway will soon be Muslim only. The curriculum will essentially stay the same, according to officials, with the exception of ethics being replaced with Islam:

The opening of Norway's first Muslim-only school has caused controversy in the Scandinavian country's capital, with anti-immigration activists and politicians expressing their concerns over how the taxpayer-funded move might harm integration in the country. [...]

According to the Local.no, the school is set to "teach its pupils Arabic and Islamic values as well as the standard subjects on the curriculum, replacing the subject of Religion, Philosophy and Ethics with Islam, Religion and Philosophy."

BREAKING: George Bush Uses Common Images To Paint Portraits!

OMG! The humanity! If you didn't hate George Bush before this discovery, surely you will now!

George W. Bush's solo art show "The Art of Leadership: A President's Personal Diplomacy" has just opened at the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum in Dallas, Texas. Moving on from paintings of dogs and bath time, the exhibit features 30 oil-on-board paintings of world leaders. It appears as if they are all lazy reproductions of some of the first Google image search results.

Here's an example of the blatant, STOLEN artwork of which Bush is accused by this left-wing investigative journalist:

Ayaan Hirsi Ali's Brandeis Speech

Here's what Ayaan Hirsi Ali planned to say at Brandeis University, had they not cowed to CAIR:

One year ago, the city and suburbs of Boston were still in mourning. Families who only weeks earlier had children and siblings to hug were left with only photographs and memories. Still others were hovering over bedsides, watching as young men, women, and children endured painful surgeries and permanent disfiguration. All because two brothers, radicalized by jihadist websites, decided to place homemade bombs in backpacks near the finish line of one of the most prominent events in American sports, the Boston Marathon.

All of you in the Class of 2014 will never forget that day and the days that followed. You will never forget when you heard the news, where you were, or what you were doing. And when you return here, 10, 15 or 25 years from now, you will be reminded of it. The bombs exploded just 10 miles from this campus.

I read an article recently that said many adults don't remember much from before the age of 8. That means some of your earliest childhood memories may well be of that September morning simply known as "9/11."

You deserve better memories than 9/11 and the Boston Marathon bombing.

Her very last comments in the speech (not included above) are the real kicker.

Read it all.

Common Core Test Nazis: "No Ice Cream For You!"

commoncoreproblems.jpg

Many parents don't know they can have their children opt out of participating in common core testing, supposedly without retribution. But some New York students are discovering that conformity results in rewards, while exercising the right to opt out results in punishment:

Seirra Olivero, a 13-year-old student at Orange-Ulster BOCES, claims she was suspended from school last week after telling classmates they could opt out of taking the Common Core English test -- a decision few students and parents in the area knew was possible, according to the girl's mother.

The eighth-grader was suspended for two days for "insubordination," following the April 1 incident, in which she informed her friends they had a choice whether or not to take the exam on the day of the test. [...]

In Arkport, N.Y., meanwhile, parents are complaining over a decision by school officials to reward students who took the Common Core English test with ice cream, while denying it to those children who opted out of the exam.

Child Bride Kills Husband And Three Of His Friends

Holy crap! Revenge of the child bride!

A child bride forced into marriage in Nigeria killed a groom and three of his friends with a poisoned meal, police said Thursday.

Fourteen-year-old Wasila Umaru was married last week to 35-year-old Umaru Sani, according to assistant superintendent Musa Magaji Majia.

Over the weekend, the groom invited a dozen friends to celebrate at his Ungwar Yansoro village, about 60 miles from the northern city of Kano.

The teenager told police she bought rat poison at a village market and used it to prepare a dish of rice.

The saddest part will be the brutal punishment this young girl will have to face for killing a Muslim male. Muslim men may kill their children or wives with little or no punishment. But a woman killing a man will bring the harshest sentence.

TJR Common Core Math Lesson

The problem: Make a 10 in order to solve for 13 minus 7.

common_core_math_wtf.jpg

Here's my take: 13 - 7, change the 13 to 10 then subtract 3 and then pull a 4 out of your ass and subtract that. Show your hidden partners on your fingers to an adult. Miraculously, that will result in 13! Then you just have to subtract 3 again, which results in the original 10, and then subtract 4 to get your answer -- 6.

You didn't think it would be as simple as subtracting 7 from 13, did you? Ridiculous!

US to Trade Spy in Return for Terrorists Being Released and No Hope of Actual Peace Deal

I think the headline pretty much sums my thoughts on this up:

Sources in Jerusalem confirmed Thursday that Israel has presented the Palestinians with a new package aimed at extending peace talks, and the US has not taken the possible release of Israeli agent Jonathan Pollard off of the table.

A diplomatic source said that "if the Palestinian Authority agrees to stop its plans to join a number of international treaties and conventions, Israel will agree to a new prisoner release package in return for the continuation of negotiations until the end of the year at a minimum."

I don't know what to think about Pollard. There's a lot of misinformation about him in the Israel, namely that he's some kind of a hero. Ok, right, whatever: the guy did what he did for money.

On the flip side -- he turned over secrets to a friendly country. Which isn't cool, but it's not the same thing as spying for, say, the Soviets.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is that he seems like he's served enough time. This part of the deal I don't care so much about.

But whenever the Palestinians have to be placated with a "prisoner release" I'm again reminded of the moral sewer that these people live in. These prisoners are mostly common murderers, thugs, and terrorists. When you demand the release of those people? Yeah, you're a douche.

Oakland Unified School District Lesson Plan To Equate Convicted Cop-Killer To Martin Luther King, Jr

Leftist darling Mumia Abu-Jamal killed Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner during a traffic stop in 1981. Faulkner had stopped Abu-Jamal's brother while Abu-Jamal approached the scene on foot. The Black Panther militant was found at the crime scene having been wounded by the young officer who returned fire in self defense.

The weapon used to kill Faulkner was found beside Abu-Jamal. He was wearing a shoulder holster for the weapon. Four witnesses saw Abu-Jamal cross the road toward Falkner and shoot him. Two witnesses at the hospital where Abu-Jamal was being treated heard him confess to shooting Faulkner.

A jury unanimously found Abu-Jamal guilty after only three hours of deliberations.

The Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) now has a lesson plan asking students to compare parallels between Mumia Abu-Jamal and Martin Luther King, Jr. The plan suggests Abu-Jamal was being targeted by the US Government and falsely accused of the crime that sent him to death row. (The death sentence was later dropped and, during an appeal, Abu-Jamal was re-sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.)

The lesson plan, which was authored by teacher Craig Gordon for 11th-graders within the 37,000-student district, suggests to "critically examine a possible parallel" between King and "someone else many believe is currently targeted by the U.S. government, Mumia Abu-Jamal."

It also asks students to consider the following statement: "The media, prison system and law enforcement organizations have censored Mumia Abu-Jamal. On one hand, there have been occasional stories in print and broadcast media about Mumia Abu-Jamal. On the other, despite the widespread support for Abu-Jamal that has made his case the most renown and controversial of death penalty cases in the world today, these stories are extremely rare and always refer to him as a 'convicted cop-killer.'"

California is teaching children that a violent cop-killer is no worse than a peaceful civil rights activist. For shame.

Pessimism Reaches New Lows As Analyst Predicts a Nuclear Saudi Arabia and an Empowered and More Dangerous al Qaeda

The House Committee on Foreign Affairs had a subcommittee meeting a couple of days ago which asked the question, "Is al-Qaeda Winning? Grading the Administration's Counterterrorism Policy?" There were five people giving testimony, all of whom seemed to agree that al Qaeda was not on the run despite the "core" in Pakistan losing some ground and who's assessments ranged from the administration is doing what it can to counter the threat but we shouldn't let our guard down to god of the sweet meteor of relief, we pray that you will send end it all before it's too late:

All conditions are set for a series of significant terrorist attacks against the US and its allies over the next few years. But that's not the worst news. Conditions are also set for state collapse in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, and possibly Jordan. Saudi Arabia, facing a complex succession soon, is likely to acquire nuclear weapons shortly, if it has not already done so. Turkey and Egypt confront major crises. Almost all of Northern and Equatorial Africa is violent, unstable, and facing a growing al Qaeda threat. And Vladimir Putin's assault on Ukraine is likely to empower al Qaeda-aligned jihadists in Crimea and in Russia itself. That eventuality is, of course, less worrisome than the prospect of conventional and partisan war on the European continent, likely threatening NATO allies. The international order and global stability are collapsing in a way we have not seen since the 1930s. There is little prospect of this trend reversing of its own accord, and managing it will require massive efforts by the US and its allies over a generation or more.
And on that cheerful note ... HOPENCHANGE!

Red on Red: ISIS & al Nusrah Continue to Kill Each Other in Syria

Popcorn levels now at critically low:

Syria's Al-Qaeda affiliate lost ground to its jihadist rivals around a town on the Iraqi border on Thursday in heavy fighting that left 24 people dead, a monitoring group said.

Fighters of the Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS), a cross-border group which has been disowned by Al-Qaeda's leadership, launched a three-pronged assault on positions held by Al-Qaeda affiliate Al-Nusra Front and its allies, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said....

"ISIS are attacking our positions in Albu Kamal, and the battles since yesterday (Wednesday) are in three different areas about 15 kilometres (10 miles) from the centre of the city. The battles are still continuing."

Let's hope they've improved their collective aim and the only ones killed are each other.

UN Blames Palestinian Wife Beating On Israel

(Hat Tip: TROP)

Apparently, Palestinian men hate Joos so much, when they can't blow up Israeli citizens they are forced to vent by lashing out at their wives:

In her recent report to the U.N. Human Rights Council, High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay revives the bizarre charge, made by one of her colleagues in 2005, that when Palestinian men beat their wives, it's Israel's fault:
Women in the Occupied Palestinian Territory face multiple layers of violence and discrimination. The analysis made by the Special Rapporteur on violence against women in 2005 remains valid. She found that the combination of decades of Israeli occupation, the use of force against Palestinians by Israel, the different forms of resistance used by Palestinians against such use of force and the patriarchy prevailing in Palestinian society expose women to a continuum of violence in all spheres of life.

Of course. It has nothing to do with Quran verse 4:34 or with Muhammad's example.

Everything is Israel's fault.

Ban Knives!

A student, who, no doubt, didn't have access to guns, went on a stabbing rampage at a Pennsylvania school:

A male sophomore went on a stabbing spree at his Pittsburgh-area high school early Wednesday, an emergency management agency spokesman said.

At least 20 students at Franklin Regional Senior High School in Murrysville were injured, and the alleged attacker is in custody, said Dan Stevens, a spokesman for Westmoreland County Emergency Management.

Pennsylvania is a licensed carry state. That is, no permit is needed to purchase or own a weapon, but a permit is needed to carry a weapon.

Obviously, the perpetrator in this case had no access to guns, which proves preventing mass shootings isn't a matter of restricting weapons, but a matter of responsible ownership.

Fort Hood Soldier Recounts Sacrifice Made By Fellow Soldier

From 1st Lt. Patrick Cook’s Facebook post via Gateway Pundit:

My name is First Lieutenant Patrick Cook of the 49th Transportation Battalion, Fort Hood, Texas, and this past Wednesday I found myself trapped in an enclosed room with fourteen of my fellow Soldiers, one of whom was barricading the door against a madman with a .45 pistol when he was fatally shot. Through what I can only describe as a miracle, he somehow found enough strength to continue pushing against that door until the shooter gave up and went elsewhere, at which time he collapsed. Nearly a week later, I can still taste his blood in my mouth from when I and my comrades breathed into his lungs for 20 long minutes while we waited for a response from the authorities. This Soldier's name was Sergeant First Class Daniel Ferguson, and his sacrifice loaned me the rest of my life to tell this story.

But I write to you today not to memorialize this brave Soldier, nor to tell a war story about how we made the best of a losing situation, but to express the part of that story that some in high positions of power clearly do not want told: I knew this was going to happen. I had been saying for five years that Fort Hood was a tinderbox of another massacre waiting to happen. It had to happen, because our betters failed to learn the obvious lesson of five years ago. Worse yet, I know it will happen again. More will die, more will be wounded, more families will be torn apart, needlessly. It happened again, and will happen again, because Fort Hood is a gun free zone.

When the first shots rang out, my hand reached to my belt for something that wasn’t there. Something that could have put a stop to the bloodshed, could have made it merely an "ugly incident" instead of the horrific massacre that I will surely remember as the darkest twenty minutes of my life. Stripped of my God-given Right to arm myself, the only defensive posture I had left was to lie prostrate on the ground, and wait to die. As the shooter kicked at the door, I remember telling myself, "oh well, this is it." It is beneath human dignity to experience the utter helplessness I felt that day. I cannot abide the thought that anyone should ever feel that again.

Read it all.

The victims should have just thrown paper clips at the shooter. That would have stopped him. At least according to the Department of Homeland Security instructional video on how to survive an "active shooter" situation in a gun-free zone.

Eric Holder Wants To Mandate That Gun Owners Wear Bracelets To Activate Weapons

From The Daily Caller:

Attorney General Eric Holder wants to explore "common sense" gun reforms, like mandating that gun owners would have to wear bracelets before they could activate their firearms.

Holder made his remarks while testifying before a U.S. House of Representatives appropriations committee on Friday. He acknowledged the existence of the Second Amendment, which gives people the unqualified right to own and carry weapons, but nevertheless expressed support for several gun control measures that he described as "common sense reforms," according to The Washington Free Beacon.

If you recall, I posted about the "smart gun" bracelet technology a couple of months ago. Not only are these guns much more expensive, but they are much slower to engage. It takes more than 13 seconds just to activate the bracelet so the gun can be fired - and that is assuming you make no programming errors and the batteries are fresh. Then imagine trying to do that while someone is breaking into your home.

How about this for identifying legal gun owners:

gun-owner-yellow-star-germany.gif

We all know nothing short of total persecution will satisfy gun-control leftists and those who want to see gun owners cower in shame.

CBS 60 Minutes Adds Gasoline Engine Sound Effects To Tesla Vehicles

(Hat Tip: IHateTheMedia)

CBS admitted adding erroneous audio effects to a recent 60 Minutes report on Tesla founder Elon Musk. Tesla vehicles, in fact, are electric and make little noise.

The battery-powered Tesla Model S is one of the world’s fastest and quietest luxury cars, but you might not know the latter if you watched the "60 Minutes" interview with Tesla founder Elon Musk that first aired on Sunday.

Now CBS says it regrets the "error" that led to that impression.

Following an introductory segment by Scott Pelley, whose wife owns a Model S, there is a series of shots provided by Tesla of a Model S driving down a road accompanied by the out-of-sync sounds of an internal combustion engine and the shifting of a transmission.

The Model S has neither of these things.

Here's a snippet from the CBS report:

CBS has since removed the edited audio from the segment. The interview with original sound effects can be watched HERE.

(Yes, the video above is a parody of the report. Those are not the actual sound effects CBS used.)

U.S. Envoy On Africa: "In The World Today, We’re Seeing Far Too Many Victims Of Ethnic And Religiously Motivated Violence And Hate"

We all know that. But wait, she isn't referring to jihad against Christians. She is referring to violence against Muslims:

"In the world today, we're seeing far too many victims of ethnic and religiously motivated violence and hate," Power said. [...]

The country has been in chaos since a March 2013 coup, and the violence has been splitting the country into Muslim and Christian areas.

Power said the situation "is extremely alarming" with most Muslims in the capital, Bangui, forced to flee their homes and many killed by armed Christian militants.

The United Nations will be taking over peacekeeping duties in the Central African Republic from the African Union but not until Sept. 15, she said.

Until then, Power said, there's a huge amount to be done to protect the Muslims still in Bangui who feel very vulnerable, to mobilize funding for desperately needed humanitarian aid, and to support transitional President Catherine Samba-Panza's efforts to get the police and civil service back to work.

Powers does not mention Muslim aggression in Nigeria or the persecution of Christian Copts in Egypt.

Jihad Watch has more.

HHS Pads Obamacare Numbers By Starting Applications

Wonder how Obamacare managed to sign up over two million new applicants in the final days before the deadline when it took months to get to 5 million?

Simple. They just started your Obamacare applications themselves.

From The Shark Tank via Gateway Pundit:

In the closing days of the open enrollment period for the Affordable Care Act (ACA) , the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) was mailing out letters notifying certain Americans that they had already started a healthcare coverage application on their behalf.

The HHS letter stated that the information they used to begin the application for individual Healthcare was obtain by the state agency in charge of implementing Obamacare.

The Administration is claiming, so far, 7.1 million have signed up for Obamacare. They cannot (or will not) specify how many are illegals, how many signed up to replace lost policies, how many have actually paid any premiums, or even how many have completed the application process.

What we do know is that 4 out of every 5 people who signed up for Obamacare qualify for subsidies.

UPDATE: Insurance Companies may refuse to sell health coverage beyond government mandated enrollment periods.

UPDATE II: Some new enrollees are prison inmates. States are signing them up so costs can be pass to federal government (i.e. the US tax payers).

It's on? Lebanon Cracking Down on al Qaeda Supporters, Omar Bakri Muhammad on the Run

Omar Bakri Mohammad's stripper daughter Yasmin. Because, why not?

The thing about Lebanon is this: it's a failed state where terrorists actually control lots and lots of territory. The fact that Hezbollah has its own army which basically runs much of Southern Lebanon is telling about the place.

My Lebanese brother-in-law loves the place. Which is odd, because if Lebanon was so awesome why the hell is he living in California?

In any event, I guess the Lebanese government will tolerate some terrorists, just not others. So, deciding to put the hammer down on al Qaeda supporters in a single town -- Tripoli -- is a start, but won't be nearly enough:

Omar Bakri Mohammad is on the run in Lebanon, officials say, after his house was raided as part of an operation to end the sectarian violence in Tripoli....

The Lebanese army said it had arrested 75 people during Tuesday's operation in Tripoli, which saw troops moving into the main conflict areas - the Sunni district of Bab al-Tabbana and the neighbouring Alawite district of Jabal Muhsin - to try to quell the clashes.

But when the soldiers stormed Mr Bakri's house in the city centre, they found that he had already fled. His wife told local media that she did not know where he was.

Bab al-Tabbana would be the same place where Vice sent in a crew and filmed a bunch of al Qaeda flags and where one Islamist leader could be heard wondering why the US wasn't helping them, and then praising Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden. Yeah, why the US isn't helping them is a huge mystery.

'I Hate My Job, I Hate My Job, I Hate My Job...'

New York court stenographers make an average of $25 per hour transcribing courtroom proceedings.

Makes you wonder why a court couldn't also spring for a camcorder...

An alcoholic Manhattan court stenographer went rogue, channeling his inner "Shining" during a high-profile criminal trial and repeatedly typing, "I hate my job, I hate my job" instead of the trial dialogue, sources told The Post.

The bizarre antics by Daniel Kochanski, who has since been fired, wreaked havoc on some 30 Manhattan court cases, sources said, and now officials are scrambling to repair the damage. [...]

Sources said the Manhattan DA's Office arrested Kochanski and forced him to try to make sense of his shorthand typing.

But that effort apparently failed. Judges have been holding "reconstruction hearings" at which everyone involved in a case has to testify about what they remember. (Source)

CAIR: Women Having Human Rights Is Anti-Islamic

That can be the only message since CAIR is opposing a film about "honor killings" and female genital mutilation. Apparently, exposing abuses women endure under Islam is 'Islamophobic":

CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations) is at it again. This time they have succeeded in shutting down a screening of the film, "Honor Diaries," at the University of Michigan, Dearborn last Thursday night, claiming that the film is 'Islamophobic.'

"Honor Diaries" is a recently-released documentary profiling nine Muslim women and their horrific experiences in Islamic societies living with practices such as female genital mutilation, honor violence, honor killings and forced marriage at young ages.

CAIR started a Twitter campaign a few days ago against the film, calling it ‘Islamophobic,’ the term groups such as CAIR use not to mean prejudice or fear against the religion, but a fabricated term used to denote anything unflattering to Islam.

Makes you wonder where their priorities are... oh, wait. Never mind. We already know their priority is to defend Islam no matter what.

Piers Morgan: Guns Turned Ft. Hood Shooter Bad

Piers Morgan tweeted that the Fort Hood shooter was a good guy until he got an evil gun:

Leftists just can't see the hypocrisy between how they view law-abiding gun owners and followers of The Religion of Peace™. Law-abiding gun owners don't share an ideology that demands others be harmed or killed. Yet, in the leftist mind, they are somehow more prone to violence than followers of an ideology that does.

That's not to say all Muslims are prone to violence. But why are liberals so quick to defend all Muslims when a few commit acts of terrorism, but so quick to condemn all gun owners when an individual goes on a rampage?

Ft. Hood Shooter Didn't See Combat, But that won't stop the Blame Bush/PTSD meme

Ivan_Lopez_facebook.JPG
Ivan Lopez from his Facebook account

So, you have PTSD -- or you think you do -- and yet you didn't see any combat?

The soldier who shot three people to death at Fort Hood apparently did not see combat during a tour in Iraq three years ago but was clearly troubled, under treatment for depression and anxiety and being evaluated for post-traumatic stress disorder...

There is no record that Lopez saw combat or was injured during a four-month deployment in 2011 to Iraq, where he was a truck driver, military officials said. At that time, American forces were withdrawing from Iraq.

Records show no combat citations or ribbons, the officials said. They stressed that it did not mean Lopez was not suffering serious psychological problems — only that they did not appear combat-related, as is often associated with soldiers suffering from PTSD.

They said there was also no medical confirmation the Lopez suffered a traumatic brain injury. Milley said that the soldier “self-reported” a brain injury.

I see Drudge has a headline up noting that the guy was taking Ambien because he wasn't sleeping well.

Why is it that when a guy is crazy that we always try to blame it on something? Combat stress. Brain injury. Ambien. His mother died.

Aren't most people who are crazy just, you know, crazy? Like they were born that way. That it's something in the brain.

My impression from the Ph.Ds in Psychology I work with is that pretty much most of the psychological theories stemming from Freud and those that followed his lead in tying psychological disorders to life experiences or events have pretty much fallen out of favor. Yet in the popular mind & media we try to create a causal string of traumatic life events to psychological disorders.

But, what do I know? I'm: a) not a psychologist; b) never been in the military.

So, I'll link you over to this at a great milblogger over at This Aint Hell:

Yesterday, thousands of veterans suffering from PTS didn’t shoot anyone...

Well, we know that people who do have PTS don’t normally hurt other people, they hurt themselves, but not the rest of us. So it’s unfair of Milley and the media to check off the PTS box as the cause for this incident.

And this followup:
As I’ve been saying all along, PTS has become an excuse for bad behavior, but on closer examination, something the media is largely unequipped to accept, that’s all it is – an excuse. An excuse largely accepted by the social engineers and our intellectual betters who have all of the answers and none of the experience.
Sounds about right to me.

Still, this is going to be laid to blame on Bush. Somehow.

Also, note that Ivan Lopez is a "white Hispanic". They say he's from Puerto Rico, which is a suburb of Peruvia. I think.

Oh, one other thing. The right-wing equivalent of the Blame Bush meme is that this is somehow Obama's fault for not allowing guns on military bases. I agree that it makes absolutely zero sense to not allow soldiers to carry weapons on bases. Of all the people in the world most trustworthy as a group to carry guns, those that serve in uniform are them.

So, I'm tempted to blame Obama fort this too. The only problem? Apparently the no guns rule goes way back to 1992 -- when George H.W. Bush was President. And was implemented in 1993, when Bill Clinton was President. (sorry, no link for this, but I read it somewhere last night but forgot to save the link)

Whenever an insane person murders someone it is tempting to blame larger forces. But in the end the only person to blame is Ivan Lopez. And thank God, he's dead.

UPDATE: I just talked to one of the Psychology professors and he pretty much verified what I wrote above. One thing he mentioned that I thought worth passing on was that he says that the current thinking is that traumatic or stressful events can affect the mind, but that such stresses have to be prolonged in order for any lasting damage. Single events don't cause psychological damage, but prolonged exposure might.

Also, he tells me that in his opinion Ivan Lopez, "is an Assh*le." That's a clinical diagnosis.

Fort Hood Pt. II -- Active Shooter, Ongoing Updates -- One shooter dead -- Self Inflicted -- Shooter was "Soldier" -- ID'd "Ivan Lopez" -- Live Press Conference Confirms Soldier Being Treated for Mental Health Issues

UPDATE: Picture changed:

lopez_daily.jpg
(Daily Mail)

Reports of a shooter loose on Ft. Hood.

Ft. Hood on lockdown and reports of several wounded.

Related.

UPDATE by Rusty: I rushed to the computer as soon as I heard. As per the "related" link above, this came too close on the heels of reports earlier this week of a "Ft. Hood like" attack in the works. Only we were told that the suspect behind those threats was in a mental institution.

But as I've asked several times now, why would the FBI and military post a warning that bases might be under threat if that threat had been neutralized? And now this on the very same day that I posted said suspect was in a nut house? If this turns out to be a coincidence, then it will be an eerie one.

But John Thomas Jr, the guy who sparked the FBI alert, has been in custody for several weeks now and yet the alert went out any way. This suggests, possibly, that there was a worry that there were co-conspirators.

Fox13:

Fort Hood confirms that a shooting has occurred at the U.S. Army post near Killeen, Texas, “and injuries are reported.” No further details were released.
KGENT is saying that 8 have been injured, 1 dead.

Expect updates.

UPDATE: Let me quote my original post from yesterday:

Law enforcement sources familiar with the alert said it appeared to suggest that there may be others in addition to Booker who also might have expressed similar intentions to commit jihad against U.S. military installations. [emphasis mine]
So, maybe this was a bigger plot? Of course, this is just speculation at this point. But the timing .....

Also, CNN reports that there may be more than one shooter.

UPDATE: KCEN just reported that one of the shooters dead.

UPDATE: The AP is upping that to 14 dead, but that there was only one shooter who is also dead (or one of the 14 dead, not sure)

UPDATE: Ed over at Hot Air has a report that the military now says that it was a single shooter, and that he's dead.

UPDATE: The AP is reporting that the Justice Dept. is already saying that the shooter died of a self inflicted wound:

Justice Department internal report: Fort Hood gunman dead of self-inflicted wound.
I don't have a link for that, but Tom Elia sent it to me and I just heard the same report on the TV station I'm watching.

UPDATE: The latest report is that the shooter was "in uniform" and that the DOD is saying it was "soldier on soldier".

But you know who else was a soldier in uniform shooting other soldiers? Nidal Hasan.

UPDATE: Fox News via Hot Air:

A shooting at Ft. Hood that reportedly left three injured Wednesday was a “soldier on soldier” incident without any terrorism link, a senior Department of Homeland Security source told FoxNews.com.
Given yesterday's alert about a "Ft. Hood style attack" on military bases, then an actual attack at Ft. Hood you can see why terrorism was the first thing to suspect.

But if this turns out to be anything but terrorism? You can expect in the next few hours that the narrative will turn to PTSD. And then the talking heads will begin to blame Bush.

Mark. My. Words.

UPDATE: The suspect is being ID'd on CNN right now as "Ivan Lopez". CBS:

Sources identified the suspect as 34-year-old soldier Ivan Lopez.
UPDATE: I posted a photo of Spc. Ivan Lopez, who was stationed at Ft. Hood and attached to the 1st Battalion, Warrior Transition Brigade from this link.

So, does that mean he helped those having a hard time transitioning from a combat zone? Or does it mean that he was being treated because he was having a hard time transitioning?

Thanks to Tom Elia for that link.

We're also now hear that at least four are dead. Not sure if that's four victims + 1 shooter. --->Apparently that was four dead, including the perp. So, our prayers go out for the families of three of them.

UPDATE: I think Iowahawk nailed it

Update: Mediate has this:

According to KWTX-TV, Lopez was an active-duty soldier, who worked as a truck driver for the U.S. Army.
So, if he was a truck driver but last year was attached to the Warrior Transition Brigade ... yeah, the PTSD/blame Bush thing seems kind of inevitable.

UPDATE: The press conference has finally started at Ft. Hood. We'll see if we learn anything new.

He confirms that 3 are dead, and that shooter killed himself. Injured are being treated.

No evidence related to terrorism, but not ruling it out. <--well said, normally these guys automatically rule out terrorism even when they have no motivation.

Being treated for "mental health issues" and PTSD, although hadn't been diagnosed with PTSD (undergoing diagnosis process). Was being treated for depression .... not wounded in action, no record of purple heart

Let blame Bush begin!

Used small sidearm, .45 apc Smith & Wesson

In addition, 16 others injured

So, we've come full circle. Nidal Hasan was at Ft. Hood to treat returning soldiers with PTSD, this guy was at Ft. Hood being treated for PTSD. Both were mass murderers under Obama's watch, but Bush will be blamed.

Not that there's anything political about this -- at least, as far as we know -- but some people make everything political.

UPDATE: As for the picture above, I am not the source of it. This is. It may not be the shooter and some have suggested that since the shooter was only recently transferred to Ft. Hood, it couldn't be him. [Ed: Picture has been changed.]

Possibly. Except that nothing about this guy adds up. A bunch of MSM sources report that he was 34 and still an Spc. (example here). He also was deployed to Iraq for 4 months and saw combat. So that was years and years ago now. The fact that he's been in the military for some time now and was still an Spc. says something about this guy.

Moreover, given his length of service and Iraq deployment he could have been stationed at Hood a few years ago and then just recently came back.

Just a theory, and I'm not that invested in it. But saying that since the above photo is 4 years old, this can't be the shooter just misses some basic things.

IRA 'Splodey Dope?

Daylight saving time thwarts bomber:

A mix-up with daylight saving time may have caused a car bomb to blow up in the face of a bumbling bomber in Dublin.

The unidentified bomber was seen fleeing from the wreckage of a ruined Volvo SUV on Sunday evening, while "dripping in blood" after the device that was attached to the vehicle went off early.

Clocks in Ireland were turned ahead on Sunday night.

"It would appear that the bomber got his timings wrong. It could be a case where he didn't put his watch forward on Sunday [at 1am] and the timer went off too soon," the Daily Mirror reported.

Awesome: Moderate Syrian Rebels "Happy to fight Alongside of al Qaeda" -- Provide Arms

With everything else happening around the world, I tend to forget that there's still a civil war raging in Syria. And our "allies" are fighting alongside al Qaeda. "Happily":

The leader of a Syrian rebel group [Jamal Maarouf} feted as an alternative to the tide of Islamism which dominates most other rebel brigades has said he has no interest in fighting Al Qaeda...

Moreover, Maarouf - who has been forced to flee the front lines in Syria to neighboring Turkey out of fear of assassination by ISIS - says his forces have often fought side-by-side with the Nusra Front (Jabhat al-Nusra), Al Qaeda's official franchise in Syria...

"It’s clear that I’m not fighting against Al Qaeda," Maarouf said. "This is a problem outside of Syria’s border, so it’s not our problem. I don’t have a problem with anyone who fights against the regime inside Syria."

He goes on to say that not only does he fight side by side with al Qaeda, but that:
Perhaps more worryingly for western state, he admits to having "shared" his arms with Islamist fighters at time
Great.

Just. Freaking. Great.

Al Qaeda Attacks Yemen Army HQ

At least 20 dead:

Al-Qaeda attacked a Yemeni army headquarters in a heavily patrolled district of Aden on Wednesday, sparking a gun battle that killed 20 people, most of them militants, officials said.

The building targeted is located in the supposedly tightly secured coastal district of Tawahi that hosts intelligence and political police headquarters, a naval base and a presidential residence.

"We have regained control of the situation," an army official told AFP, adding that the fighting went on for several hours.

Ten of the assailants were killed, along with a suicide bomber who detonated his explosives-laden car at an entrance to the base, the official said.

Unfortunately 6 soldiers were also killed and 3 civilians.

File under: al Qaeda on the run.

Sooo sad: Islamist Sanctioned by US for Supporting al Qaeda Murdered in Kenya

I got to tell you, I'm having a hard time fighting back the tears:

A radical Islamic leader who had been sanctioned by the United States and the United Nations for supporting an al-Qaida-linked Somali militant group was assassinated late Tuesday, his lawyer and officials said...

Attorney Mbugua Mureithi said Abubakar Shariff Ahmed was shot dead along with another unidentified man near the Shimo la Tewa prison in the coastal town of Mombasa. The killings threaten to spark retaliatory violence.

UPDATE: Would-be Ft. Hood Copycat in Mental Institution

UPDATE 4/2/2014 PM -- Shooting at Fort Hood on the very day I posted this!

Ok, this explains why we were told that John Thomas Booker, Jr. (aka: Muhammad Abdullah Hassan) was "not a threat". Apparently the threat had been neutralized and he's in an insane asylum (presumably involuntarily):

But the FBI interviewed him in March and alerted the Army, which formally discharged him last week. He is now in an undisclosed mental health facility,
More here.

The real question is why the FBI and the military issued a security bulletin based on a plot from a guy who was first detained and then institutionalized?

One more note: insane and dangerous are not mutually exclusive categories and in fact often go together.

Arab Spring! 529 Death Sentences Handed Out to Muslim Brotherhood Members

Viva La Revolution!

The 529 death sentences handed down to supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood represent the largest number issued collectively in living memory in the country. That these sentences were delivered after a two-day trial, without benefit of defence testimony, has sparked international outrage - yet many in Egypt have greeted the move positively.
I mean yeah, seems positive to me. I mean on the down side you're being executed by a military regime that had overwhelming street support, on the upside Martyr for Allah.

It kinda evens out, so positive.

Kassim Alhimidi's Murder Trial Begins

Kassim's wife's murder was at first played in the press as an act of violence inspired by Islamophobia

EL CAJON, Calif. – The killing of Kassim Alhimidi's Iraqi wife in the city of El Cajon drew international attention after their daughter said she found a note by her mother's bludgeoned body that read: "Go back to your country, you terrorist."

But police say the evidence points to Alhimidi as the only suspect for the murder of 32-year-old Shaima Alawadi.

His trial gets into full swing Tuesday when prosecutors and his attorney are scheduled to present their arguments to San Diego Superior Court in El Cajon.

Defense Attorney Richard Berkon Jr. says no blood was found on Alhimidi and his client does not speak English, raising doubts he planted the note.

Police say lab tests showed the note was a photocopy and divorce documents were found in Alawadi's car.

later on its gotten less play in the press.

Update: Good coverage here from The Republic:

An Iraqi man accused of killing his Muslim wife in their California home in what initially appeared to be a hate crime lied to police about his whereabouts on that fateful day and his troubled marriage, prosecutors say.

But defense lawyers say Kassim Alhimidi, who does not speak English, initially gave police contradictory statements about his marriage because he was distraught about Shaima Alawadi's fatal beating and was afraid he could be accused of a crime he didn't commit. They pointed out that no blood, fingerprints or DNA has been found that links him to the murder, and his wife, who was contemplating divorce, also had problems with their teenage daughter, who was dating a Christian boy.

Alhimidi sobbed loudly during the opening of his trial Tuesday when the prosecution played a recording of the 911 call from their eldest daughter on March 21, 2012, to report that she had found her mother in a pool of blood in their kitchen area. At one point, Alhimidi dropped his head to the table, shaking and crying out in Arabic. The judge halted the proceedings briefly and asked Alhimidi through an interpreter to use a cloth to muffle the sounds, so jurors could hear.

*Bumped* Army Recruit Seeking Ft. Hood Style Attack on the Lam -- (UPDATE) *Exclusive* Suspect is John Thomas Booker, Jr. --UPDATE: No Immediate Threat (Rebumped ***Busted! ***)

And you'd be wrong.

LAST YEAR the FBI announced it was searching for an ex-army recruit suspected of plotting a Fort Hood-inspired Islamist attack.

Rusty Shackleford at The Jawa Report has identified the suspect – John Thomas Booker, Jr.

He goes by the alias Muhammad Abdullah Hassan on Facebook.

Federal prosecutors have announced an arrest in a case involving a “national security matter.”

U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom and an FBI special agent announced that 20-year-old John Thomas Booker from Topeka was arrested in Manhattan for trying to support ISIS.

He wanted to set off a bomb at Fort Riley. The arrest was made Friday morning.

Oh and Hassan, watch the cornhole bud.

*** End 2015 update original post below***

UPDATE 4/2/2014 PM -- Shooting at Fort Hood on the very day after I posted this!

Muhammad-Abdullah-Hassan-Booker-Facebook.jpg
Selfie of "Muhammad Abdul Hassan from his FB page

Critical above the fold update: The reason he's not a threat? He's been put into a mental institution! So, this kind of explains why the Feds didn't release his name. But then why the security alert on military bases if the guy making the threats was already at a funny farm? Collaborators maybe?

UPDATE: I've ID'd the suspect as John Thomas Booker, Jr. Scroll down to see how I found him.

-----------

The good news here is that the man, known only as "Booker", never showed up for basic training. So, this isn't an "imminent" attack of any sort. The news so far suggests that he planned to join the military, infiltrate the ranks, and only then follow in the footsteps of Nidal Hasan in committing mass murder against his fellow soldiers.

The bad news? Apparently, "Booker" is on the run:

On 20 March 2014, the Kansas City Division FBI became aware of an individual named BOOKER aka Muhammad Abdullah Hassan who had publicly stated his intention to commit jihad, bidding farewell to his friends and making comments indicating his jihad was imminent. BOOKER had been recruited by the US Army in Kansas City, Mo., in February 2014 and was scheduled to report for Basic Training on 7 April 2014. Kansas City Division Agents interviewed BOOKER on 20 March 2014.
There's a BOLO out on "Booker", but it's not clear to me if the FBI and military want to catch this guy why they don't publicly release his real name along with a picture? If he decided not to show up for basic training, then here are the reasons as I see them: a) he suspected that his plot had been detected so he ran (Update: I don't know how I overlooked this, but the FBI interviewed him in March so of course he realized they were on to him); b) he got cold feet, in which case was there really any crime committed since he may have decided not to carry out the original plot; c) he decided to commit some other act of terror.

One last thing that may be cause for worry:

Law enforcement sources familiar with the alert said it appeared to suggest that there may be others in addition to Booker who also might have expressed similar intentions to commit jihad against U.S. military installations. [emphasis mine]
A bigger plot with multiple suspects on the loose?

So, it sounds like the military is treating this as a potential threat against bases within the US ... so we go with option "C", even if it is only a precautionary alert as to what "Booker" might do.

I'm a little late to this party, so has anyone heard anything else about this guy?

UPDATE: Apparently this guy's Facebook page was a treasure trove of information, but it's down now. The Heavy grabbed some photos before FB suspended his account. I've posted one of those pics at the top. This one is from his Linkedin account.

Muhammad-Abdul-Hassan-Linkedin.JPG

Apparently, the guy went to Topeka West High School and graduated in 2012 and was recently in the Job Corps. His phone number is an 816 area code, so he may have recently lived in the Kansas City area (Topeka looks like it's 785 to me).

So, with all these clues, can we put together this guy's real name?

UPDATE: The suspect the FBI and military are searching for is named John Thomas Booker, Jr. How do I know? Well, "Booker" graduated from Topeka West High School in 2012. According to this list of graduates, a "John Booker, Jr." graduated from that school in 2012. And a "John Thomas Booker, Jr." was in that school's ROTC program in 2011 as cited here. And since Cadet Booker is quoted in that article as celebrating Christmas, we can surmise that he is a convert to Islam.

Here's a pic of "Booker" wrapping Christmas presents with his ROTC group in high school.

John_thomas_booker-ROTC-terrorism.jpg

Be on the lookout for --

John Thomas Booker, Jr.
Black, male
19 years old
b. Auguest 12, 1994
AKAs:"Booker", "Muhammad Abdullah Hassan"
If you encounter Mr. Booker contact your local FBI office

Also, email me if you see any more pics of this guy or have any more information.

UPDATE: Via @C1TYofFL1NT this looks like it's his YouTube account. Standard jihadi stuff, but he does post some comments in which he asks people to pray for him to become a martyr.

Muhammad-Abdullah-Hassan-Youtube-martyr-comment.JPG
"I wanna be a martyr (shaheed)!!! YA, brothers and sisters. Make a dua for me asking Allah to make me a martyr, PLEASE!!!!!!!!!! My name is above in blue"

He actually posted that same comment over and over on a bunch of videos. Apparently, the guy wants to be a martyr. That might make him a tad more dangerous.

Oh, and I forgot to mention this -- the one video he did upload and which plausibly could have been made by him? It's a CGI type edited video entitled "Muslim blows up House of a person in the Illuminati (Dajjal" [Dajjal means false messiah, kind of like the antichrist]. If he made the video with some sort of editing software then I'm guessing that's his voice we hear saying, "Allahu akbar" as the residential house blows up.

Another UPDATE: Maggie asks a good question: If the Feds are looking for this guy, why haven't they released a photo of him?

I don't have a good answer for that. Thoughts?

UPDATE: Uh, so it looks like this all may have been ... overstated. Here's an update from Fox News, who broke the story in the first place:

But although the reference was to the 2009 shooting on a Texas military base in which 13 people were killed and more than 30 injured, the FBI downplayed the threat on Tuesday and said it was not hunting for the man.

“We have interviewed this individual,” an FBI spokesman said. “There is not a manhunt and there never was one. There is no imminent threat to public safety, nor should the public be concerned that this threat exists from an individual at large."

Dudes, next time just say that at the beginning!

So, what's the deal with this then? Thanks to WTD for that last update.

Four Senators Attacked By Tiger During Show

WASHINGTON -- Four United States senators are reportedly recovering in Washington-area hospitals today following a shocking and grisly incident Thursday night, when a 480-pound male tiger brutally mauled the elected officials in front of a full audience at the nightly Congressional Exotic Live Tiger Show held in the senate chamber.

"At the time of the incident, [Sen.] Dianne [Feinstein (D-CA)] and I were performing a routine flaming ring jump - a trick we've done hundreds of times during the show's nine-year run - when Marduk, one of our white Bengal tigers, swatted her to the ground and then proceeded to clench her in his teeth and toss her around on the podium for several seconds," said chief congressional tiger-master and two-term Georgia senator Saxby Chambliss, appearing deeply shaken as he explained how the tiger then leapt into the crowd and attacked Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Carl Levin (D-MI), and Pat Roberts (R-KS), dragging the latter by the neck out to the Capitol rotunda

One Shot, Six Kills

sniper_six_kill.jpg

(Hat Tip: IHateTheMedia)

British sniper kills six Taliban with single shot:

With a Taliban fighter looming in his sights half a mile away, the British sniper knew a clean shot would take down his enemy.

What he could not have known was that the single bullet he fired would account for five more insurgents.

But, incredibly, his rifle round triggered the explosive vest worn by his target, killing all those around him.
