Ministry of Irony: Palin's Parents Paid for Canadian Healthcare
Why? Because health care in Yukon was free market in the 60s.
CORRECTION: Whitehorse is in Yukon, not Saskatchewan, and Palin, as a young child, lived closer to Itthan earlier reported.Kudo's to Ben for running his correction, I wonder how many others who picked this up yesterday will do the same?UPDATE: Here's some more context: "My first five years of life we spent in Skagway, Alaska, right there by Whitehorse. Believe it or not - this was in the '60s - we used to hustle on over the border for health care that we would receive in Whitehorse. I remember my brother, he burned his ankle in some little kid accident thing and my parents had to put him on a train and rush him over to Whitehorse and I think, isn't that kind of ironic now. Zooming over the border, getting health care from Canada."
ALSO: Socialized medicine apparently only kicked in in Yukon in 1972, post-Palin.
Yes Kos kidz we're looking at you.
Think Progress? Nope. TPM? Nope. Alan Colmes? Nope. Huffpo? Nope. LGF? Nope.
Will they in the "reality based community" let this lie just go on uncorrected?
You betcha!
In fact I can't find a single liberal blogger or site that has corrected this story other than Politico. If you find one, let the Jawas know and we'll add them.
I'm not holding my breath.

Update: Jawa reader and Canadian citizen Garduneh Mehr points out..
Healthcare is not free in Canada; we pay for it with our taxes. And Sarah Palin's family, not being citizens, would have had to pay full fee.Of course this whole issue stems from Newfoundland premier opting for his heart surgery in the US.
1972At least that's from Canada's official record of their history. But I'm sure Chuck knows more about Canadians than they do about themselves.Yukon creates medical insurance plans with federal cost sharing, April 1.
Palin's father said his family probably boarded the train for the Whitehorse hospital only twice — once when a daughter had rheumatic fever, and once when his son, also named Chuck, severely burned his leg and an infection set in.They add that Palin must be "fibbing"
So this does suggest that either her brother had two accidents, or Sarah Palin was fibbing to the Skagway News a few years ago.)Or possibly the severe burn with infection required more than one visit to a doctor.
