Meanwhile in Free Libya

Free Libya? Heh.. gasp choke.....

Armed men have shut down a gas facility in the mountainous western region of the country, predominantly inhabited by members of Libya's Berber minority - also called Amazigh.

The facility taken by the gunmen is near the town of Nalut.

Various groups have blockaded oil and gas facilities in different parts of Libya over the past few months.

The ministry of electricity has warned that the latest closure will lead to severe power cuts.

The BBC's Rana Jawad, in Tripoli, says some in the region's Berber minority fear they will be marginalised as an ethnic group when Libya's constitutional drafting process eventually begins.

The head of Nalut's local council, Salah Ghardaa, told the BBC that the protestors "are fed up with the Libyan Congress's inaction".

Map of Libya showing Nalut
The assembly which will draft Libya's new constitution has not yet been formed.

British Court Clears Way to Seize Home Used in Terror Financing

Fund the Taliban, lose your home:

Three judges said the trial of Munir Farooqi, from Longsight, Manchester, and two other men had been fair.

The Court of Appeal decision paves the way for the first ever seizure of a family home as a terrorist asset....

His trial heard that he had used the family's large Victorian home to hold meetings to radicalise recruits. One of Farooqi's sons was acquitted at trial of charges relating to his father's actions.

Following his conviction, Greater Manchester Police and the Crown Prosecution Service said they would seek to take the property because it had been used for a terrorist purpose and had been "in the possession or control" of Farooqi at the time he committed the offences.

Too bad Rachel Corrie won't be there to lay in front of the wrecking ball.

What, too soon?

Obama Falls For Fake Iranian Fatwa

President Obama insists Iran can be trusted with nuclear technology because Iranian leaders have issued a fatwa against nuclear weapons. The only problem, aside from trusting Iran to abide by such a fatwa, is that the fatwa doesn't exist:

No documentary evidence backs up President Barack Obama's claim that Iran's theocratic rulers have issued a religious edict against the development of nuclear weapons, according to the Middle East Media Research Institute, which monitors and translates news reports from Arab and Persian outlets.

The claim is an eight-year old hoax promoted since 2005 by Iran's diplomats and by Turkey's Islamist prime minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, says MEMRI.

The Islamic "fatwa," or religiously-justified law, "was never issued by [Iran's] Supreme Leader [Ali] Khamenei and does not exist; neither the Iranian regime nor anybody else can present it," MEMRI reported on Sunday.

Obama is expected to face media questions on Monday when he holds a meeting about Iran's nuke programs with Israel's prime minister Bibi Netanyahu.

Obama claimed on Friday that the fatwa does exist, and could lead to a deal with Iran to end its development of nuclear weapons.

Assuming such a fatwa did exist and was found to be relevant by the Obama Administration, one has to wonder why other fatwas are not considered when dealing with Iran.

For example, one fatwa by an Iranian supreme leader allows "thighing" and sodomizing girls as young as 3 years old. Another fatwa approves of rape in order to obtain confessions or to prevent virgin girls facing execution from being admitted into paradise.

I'm sure the Obama Administration would be quick to assert, like many Muslims do, these fatwas have no authority in Islam. So, even if Obama's "no nuclear weapons" fatwa did exist, what authority would it have?

Absolutely none.

Good News: Al Qaeda Goes Silent After White House Leaks

In the epic battle between Barack Obama and Edward Snowden over who will do more damage to our national security: Obama 1, Snowden 0:

As the nation’s spy agencies assess the fallout from disclosures about their surveillance programs, some government analysts and senior officials have made a startling finding: the impact of a leaked terrorist plot by Al Qaeda in August has caused more immediate damage to American counterterrorism efforts than the thousands of classified documents disclosed by Edward Snowden, the former National Security Agency contractor.

Since news reports in early August revealed that the United States intercepted messages between Ayman al-Zawahri, who succeeded Osama bin Laden as the head of Al Qaeda, and Nasser al-Wuhayshi, the head of the Yemen-based Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, discussing an imminent terrorist attack, analysts have detected a sharp drop in the terrorists’ use of a major communications channel that the authorities were monitoring. Since August, senior American officials have been scrambling to find new ways to surveil the electronic messages and conversations of Al Qaeda’s leaders and operatives.

Now, let's grant that the media has more of a vested interest in protecting Snowden then they have in protecting the White House. The article goes on to quote contrary voices in the intel community saying that both leak sources are to blame for the drop in al Qaeda using a particular "communications source" -- (Read: al-Shamikh forum's "private" rooms).

But still the best case scenario here is that the White House leak was just as bad as Edward Snowden's. And aren't these same people trying to prosecute Edward Swowden???

So maybe someone in the White House should be prosecuted, too. Not that Eric Holder is going to prosecute the President any time soon.

Canada Revokes ISNA's Charitable Status

It's a good start and I hope the IRS does the same. The next step would be to prosecute them as a terror front:

The Canada Revenue Agency has revoked the charitable status of an Islamic group after it says it distributed over $280,000 to an agency allegedly linked to a terrorist organization in Pakistan.

The CRA announced Friday it will strip the Islamic Society of North America Canada’s Development Foundation of its charitable status.

After a nearly two-year-long audit of its books, the CRA said it found evidence linking the group to an organization that funds a terrorist organization in Pakistan.

Maybe if the IRS were less focused on the Tea Party we could get them to look into ISNA, ICNA, & CAIR more carefully?

Saudi Cleric's Mind Affected by Sitting on His Testes Which He Uses to Think

Saudi Sheikh Saleh bin Saad al-Lohaidan is effing retarded double-clutch:

A conservative Saudi Arabian cleric has said women who drive risk damaging their ovaries and bearing children with clinical problems, countering activists who are trying to end the Islamic kingdom's male-only driving rules.

A campaign calling for women to defy the ban in a protest drive on October 26 has spread rapidly online over the past week and gained support from some prominent women activists. On Sunday, the campaign's website was blocked inside the kingdom.

In an interview published on Friday on the website, Sheikh Saleh bin Saad al-Lohaidan said women aiming to overturn the ban on driving should put "reason ahead of their hearts, emotions and passions".

Also apparently the Sheikh Saleh bin Saad al-Lohaidan doesn't know that Single Mom's 1987 Dodge Caravan seats up to nine screaming snot noses for a reason.

The poor girl may have problems, but her ovaries are not one of them.

Islamists Praise "Battle Of Nairobi"

Apparently Islamists consider the slaughter of defenseless shoppers to be an "epic battle":

On Saturday 21 September 2013, and which was just 10 days after the anniversary date of the blessed 911 operations, a battle which is among the epic battles in the history of Islam began in Nairobi, and in which some of the Mujahideen Martyrom Seekers have written with their blood. Allah has honoured the Mujahideen fighters to write this epic battle - the Badar of Nairobi - with their blood and to change the course of history and avenge the deaths of the weak, oppressed Muslims.

Nice to see Twitter collaborating with terrorists.

It is also nice that these Islamists quote Quranic verses that support their terrorism. The next time someone says these extremists are misunderstanders of Islam, you have the ammunition to prove them wrong. Terrorism against non-Muslims is supported in the Quran. Thank God not all Muslims follow the Quran and obey Muhammad's orders.

Jihad Watch has more.

Bad PR Move

Dozens killed in Islamic terrorist raid on college:

Islamic terrorists dressed in Nigerian military uniforms assaulted a college inside the country Sunday, gunning down dozens of students as they slept in their dorms and shot those trying to flee, witnesses say.

"They started gathering students into groups outside, then they opened fire and killed one group and then moved onto the next group and killed them. It was so terrible," on surviving student, who would only give his first name of Idris, told Reuters.

As many as 50 students may have been killed in the attack, which began at about 1 a.m. in rural Gujba, Provost Molima Idi Mato of Yobe State College of Agriculture, told The Associated Press. [...]

Almost all those killed were Muslims, as is the college's student body, said Adamu Usman, a survivor from Gujba who was helping the wounded at the hospital.

I guess Boko Haram didn't get the al Qaeda memo about bad PR. Moderate Muslims are expressing their dislike with down thumbs.

Al Qaeda's Lessons: Killing Muslims Equals Bad PR

I would think killing any civilians would be bad PR, but apparently al Qaeda's target audience - Muslims - only frowns upon indiscriminately killing other Muslims with Kuffars:

Al Qaeda has since realized that the indiscriminate killing of Muslims is a strategic liability, and hopes instead to create a schism between Muslims and everyone else, whom they consider "kuffar," or apostates.

"What this shows is Al Qaeda's acknowledgment that the huge masses of Muslims they have killed is an enormous PR problem within the audience they are trying to reach," said Daveed Gartenstein-Ross, director of the Center for the Study of Terrorist Radicalization. "This is a problem they had documented and noticed going back to at least Iraq. And now we see al-Qaida groups are really taking efforts to address it." [...]

"They are now sending a clear message that, 'Look, we're different ... We're no longer indiscriminately killing. We're protecting innocent Muslims and we are trying to kill quote-unquote 'infidels,' nonbelievers."

A similar tactic paid off in January after Al Qaeda-linked terrorist Moktar Belmoktar attacked a gas installation in Algeria, Atallah said. When his fighters freed hundreds of Muslim employees, a Facebook page dedicated to him exploded with "Likes." (Source)

An explosion of "Likes" despite the fact he killed dozens of non-Muslims. An explosion of "Likes" because he spared Muslims during his killing spree.

We know what the Islamic terrorists are. But what are the Muslims who posts "Likes" for killing Infidels and sparing Muslims? Well, they are moderate Muslims. The ones who don't pick up weapons to kill non-Muslims, but who support and praise those who do.

American Hostage Michael Scott Moore Alive in Somalia

Somali pirates issued a proof of life photo showing Michael Scott Moore being held at .... RPG point? That is an RPG they're pointing at the hostage, right? Maybe it's just me, but it seems kind of like overkill. Even for Somali pirates.

Beheading Christians Not Just For Romans

Given all the statements that come out of al-Qaeda and Sunni extremists about "Rome" and Khorasan.

Its just a little ironic that now they are the ones torturing and murdering Christians in the city that once was famous for producing one of the first Martyrs for Christ at the hands of Rome.

It is a terrible story in this most beautiful of towns, with its 17 churches and holy relics and its great cliff-side caves. Now the fighters of Jabhat al-Nusra – a rebel group with links to al-Qa’ida – are surviving in the caves and shooting down at the Syrian soldiers in Maaloula’s streets with Russian sniper rifles. You have to run from house to house, and one bullet smashed the windscreen of a parked car scarcely 10 metres from the balcony on which Georgios was telling his awful story. Up the road, a mortar round – apparently fired by Nusrah men – has torn a hole in the dome of a church. The Syrian army says it has driven the Islamists from Maaloula, which is technically true; but to leave the town, I had to ride in the back of a military armoured vehicle. It is not a famous victory for anyone.

Not one of the 5,000 Christian residents – nor a single member of the 2,000-strong Muslim community – has returned. Maaloula is, almost literally, a ghost town. Only Georgios and his friend Hanna and a few other local Christian men who joined the “national defence” units to defend their homes, are left. At least 10 Christians were murdered when the Nusra militia began its series of attacks on Maaloula on 4 September, some of them shot – according to Hanna – when they refused to convert to Islam, others dispatched with a knife in the throat. And there is a terrifying historical irony about their deaths, for they were slaughtered within sight of the Mar Sarkis monastery, sacred to the memory of a Roman soldier called Sergius who was executed for his Christian beliefs 2,000 years ago.

To take a page from AQI's propaganda, "but the hypocrites know not."

Qaeda al-Jihad has become a parody of its own propaganda.

The Sex Jihad?

Is some of the propaganda about the Sunni Sex Jihad or Jihad al-Nikah just propaganda with little credibility produced by the Syrian regime to make Sunnis look bad.

The only real evidence of women embarking on "sex jihad," comes not from Syria but from Tunisia's Chaambi Mountains, an area in the west of the country that has often been the site of clashes between the military and jihadists. Tunisian security forces there arrested several girls who were allegedly involved in the practice. Guellali said that she spoke to the mother of an 18-year-old female who was involved -- the mother said that a woman close to the Tunisian militant group Ansar al-Sharia got her daughter tangled up in a network of girls in the area.

But the scope of the problem -- and whether it is related to Syria in any way -- remains a complete mystery.

"It's a bit disturbing that we have these kind of declarations and then there is no follow-up," said Guellali. "[The authorities] threw out this information that they had several cases of women coming back pregnant, but there is no tracking of the cases either by the Ministry of Women or the Ministry of Interior. And they won't give any further information.

But do the Sunni terrorists really need any help to look bad.

Terrorism advocates are similar to some market traders. They do not hesitate to promote certain beliefs for the sake of marketing their products. Al-Qaeda used all means, including sex, to recruit young men and women from anywhere they have a recruitment network. They promise them martyrdom, gardens of delight and 72 virgins after death and they seduce them with female slaves while alive. Algerians suffered from these barbarous groups for two decades. They took refuge in the mountains and then attacked towns and city suburbs in order to loot, kill and kidnap women to use them as sex slaves and maids.

Let us remember that raping the mind poses the biggest threat. It is through this act that brainwashed people can be directed to commit any crime. These victims of brainwashing enter Syria, where people are either besieged or pursued and the world has given up on them. They have deceived many people into joining them under the slogan of fighting the Syrian regime. People have thus found that the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant is not any less evil than the Assad regime which they revolted against.

Its like Rusty says, on one side you have a bunch of evil lying semi civilized anti-American Shai butchers whereas on the on the other you have a bunch of evil lying so bloodthirsty we don't even pretend Anti-American Sunni butchers.

You must choose.

al-Shabaab's Savagery Detailed

The Independent:

A police doctor scouring Nairobi’s Westgate mall for bodies after a four-day siege by Islamist gunmen that claimed dozens of lives has said victims were tortured before they died, according to a Kenyan newspaper.

“Those are not allegations. Those are f****** truths,” the doctor, a forensics expert, told The Star newspaper. “They removed balls, eyes, ears, nose. They get your hand and sharpen it like a pencil then they tell you to write your name with the blood. They drive knives inside a child’s body. Actually, if you look at all the bodies, unless those ones that were escaping, fingers are cut by pliers, the noses are ripped by pliers.”

Ghoulish accounts on the fate of the hostages have circulated Nairobi and there have been claims that the military was forced to blow up part of the Westgate complex not just to bring the siege to an end, but to end the appalling suffering of hostages amid reports that hostages were raped, and others beheaded and their heads thrown out of the windows.

Remember al-Shabaab believes they did this in the name for Islam.

Terror Financier Arrested in Belgium

This guy was the financial chief for a group working out of Spain and North Africa. They send recruits down the pipeline to Syria, where said recruits blow themselves up:

Spanish authorities say Belgian police have arrested a suspected top member of a terrorist recruitment network based in Spain that allegedly sent militants to carry out attacks for al-Qaida-linked groups in Syria.

A Spanish Interior Ministry statement said Ismail Abdelatif Al Lal was arrested Thursday in Vilvoorde, north of Brussels, on a European Arrest Warrant issued by Spain.

Shock: CNN Covers Up Iranian Holocaust Denial

While CNN runs with headlines claiming Iran's new President condemned the holocaust, what he really did was dodge the question. In fact, his dodging of the question was a classic non-denial. In other words, Rouhani did exactly the opposite of what CNN continues to give him credit for.

When you claim that "I'm not an expert, I'll let the historians quibble over whether or not the holocaust really happened" you are, in fact, a Holocaust denier.

It's like all those 9/11 Truthers who claim, "We're just asking questions." Questions. Right.

I feel dirty posting the link, but here's Iran's own official newspaper calling CNN out:

The American news channel CNN fabricated the Iranian President's remarks in response to the network's question about the Holocaust in an interview which was aired on Tuesday and Wednesday.

During the interview, the CNN aired an English translation of President Rouhani's remarks which was totally inacurate and untrustworthy, and in some parts contained sentences which were not at all uttered by the president.

They then go on to note that since Christian Amanpour's father is Iranian and that since she spent much of her childhood in Tehran, that she would have known that CNN's translation was wrong since she speaks fluent Farsi.

Here's their translation, which, as you can see, is clearly a non-denial of the Holocaust:

"I have said before that I am not a historian and historians should specify, state and explain the aspects of historical events, but generally we fully condemn any kind of crime committed against humanity throughout the history, including the crime committed by the Nazis both against the Jews and non-Jews, the same way that if today any crime is committed against any nation or any religion or any people or any belief, we condemn that crime and genocide. Therefore, what the Nazis did is condemned, (but) the aspects that you talk about, clarification of these aspects is a duty of the historians and researchers, I am not a history scholar."
It's the kind of answer you get from terror supporters when you ask them if they condemn 9/11: we condemn all terror.

So, what was CNN's motivation for covering up this Holocaust denial? Do these people actually think: a) they could get away with it; b) that by doing so they could usher in a new age of love, peace, and harmony with the Iranians?

Remember, this is a network that sponsored an alternative to the Olympics as a way to try to end the Cold War. That's the kind of people we're dealing with here.

And I just love the fact that the Iranians are all up in a hissy fit over a suggestion that their President is not a Holocaust denier. Detente!

Tragically, British "White Widow" Not Killed in Kenya Mall Attack: Interpol Issues Arrest Warrant

News of Samantha Lewthwaite's demise have been exaggerated:

Interpol has issued an arrest notice for Samantha Lewthwaite, the fugitive Northern Irish woman whom news media have dubbed the “White Widow”.

The international police agency says the notice was issued at the request of Kenya, where she is wanted on charges of possessing explosives and conspiracy to commit a felony in December 2011.

Ms Lewthwaite was married to one of the suicide bombers who attacked London’s transport network in 2005.

She is wanted by Kenyan authorities over alleged involvement in a plot to bomb holiday resorts there.

Given that she's the one behind al Shabaab's twitter account that continues to spew ... of course she's alive!

Al Shabaab: Women, Children, Infidels are "Legitimate Targets"

Know thy enemy:

At least 18 foreigners were killed, including six Britons, citizens from France, Canada, Trinidad, the Netherlands, Australia, Peru, India, Ghana, South Africa and China, when the militants entered the Westgate Mall on Saturday, slaughtering men, women and children with assault rifles and grenades. The current death toll is 67 and is likely to climb with uncounted bodies remaining in the rubble of the Nairobi mall.

"The Mujahideen carried out a meticulous vetting process at the mall and have taken every possible precaution to separate the Muslims from the Kuffar (disbelievers) before carrying out their attack," al-Shabab said in an email from the HSM Press Office.

When we intentionally kill women and children, we're ashamed of it and we prosecute those responsible. When they kill women and children, they're proud of it and call those responsible heroes.

Al Qaeda Breaking Ties to Secular Syrian Rebels

Given the recent violence between the FSA and al Qaeda linked groups -- including the latter's mass beheading of prisoners from the former -- it was bound to happen:

Several Syrian rebel groups, including a powerful al Qaeda-linked faction, said Wednesday they reject the authority of the Western-backed opposition coalition.

In a joint statement, 13 rebel groups led by the al Qaeda-linked Nusra Front slammed the Turkey-based Syrian National Coalition, saying it no longer represents their interests....

The rebel groups' statement called on all those trying to topple Assad's government to unite under a "clear Islamic framework" - an apparent reference to the al-Qaeda faction's aspirations to create an Islamic state in Syria.

Given that Salaafi jihadis represent somewhere between 24 - 50% of those fighting in Syria, are we now seeing the end game with Assad finally able to sit back and enjoy the popcorn as infighting tears apart the rebellion that started out so hopeful and ended in the cannibalism all of us thought wouldn't appear until after the regime had fallen?

Actual Science! Man Made Global Warming Hypotheses False

Actual peer reviewed science is a, gasp, climate denier.

Check out Climate Change Reconsidered II for yourself. It is the top, No. 1, presentation of the other side to the Democrat Party’s controlled media on the issue. If you want to see what that is, this is your one stop source. If you personally want to believe that using the traditional, carbon based energy sources that have fueled the Industrial Revolution and modern prosperity will destroy the planet, and that we can fuel the modern economy with windmills and dancing on sunbeams at minimal net cost, then it is your personal right to pursue your alternative reality fully ignorant of your errors.

Besides the models, the UN’s IPCC tries to argue that circumstantial evidence is consistent with its theory of catastrophic, man caused global warming if it were true. This again is not the scientific method. As Karl Popper explained, “observations in science are useful to falsify hypotheses, and cannot [rigorously] prove” any hypothesis is correct. In other words, the true scientific method involves a null hypothesis which is the logical opposite of the hypothesis being explored, and is assumed correct until the evidence proves it false. That is because experimental or physical evidence can only rigorously prove something false, not prove it true.

But as Climate Change Reconsidered explains, “the IPCC assumes its implicit hypothesis [catastrophic, man-caused global warming is real] is correct and that its only duty is to collect evidence and make plausible arguments in the hypothesis’s favor.” This is political science, not actual science.

True dat.

But there are some folks who believe that a politician who's energy policy, "will necessarily cause energy prices to skyrocket." is anti Big Oil profits and helping the little guy.

I mean higher prices means higher profits, no?

These same folks believe that policies that cut through regulation, promote lower pump prices and more well paying jobs on the oil industry are Pro Big Oil and are oppressing "the little guy"

Yeah, having a job and affording to fill your tank and pay your power bill is really really bad, Mkay. I'm not sure how either but that's what they tell me.

Jawa Q&A

If a "translation" isn't a really a true Koran, then would the destruction or banning of such, "Al-muhartik" or heretic texts still inspire outrage and violence?

A: Yes, yes it would.

Russia's senior Islamic clerics warned the country's leaders on Friday unrest could erupt in Muslim communities in Russia and beyond if a court decision ordering the destruction of a interpretive translation of Koran is not overturned.
Go figure.

Two Brits Charged w/ Jihad Training in Syria

A follow up to the story that two Brits had been arrested while returning from jihad in Syria. The two have now been named publicly and formerly charged. The next stage with be another preliminary hearing at the end of next month.

It appears that they were returning home with five rounds from an AK-47, probably souvenirs. But check out what online magazine written by a now deceased North Carolinian who once threatened my life was on their computer:

Two brothers who were stopped by police in Dover have appeared in court accused of travelling to a terrorist training camp in Syria.

Mohommod Hassin Nawaz, 29, and his sibling Hamza Nawaz, 22, were arrested at the port last Monday after travelling from Calais in France, when police found five rounds of ammunition for an AK-type gun allegedly in their possession.

It is alleged that officers who stopped the car they were in also found a balaclava, some "heavy-duty clothing", six mobile phones and a sim card inside a Qur'an.....

Mohommod Nawaz is also accused of being in possession of a laptop containing "information of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism". It is claimed that this includes four copies of the al-Qaida magazine Inspire.

I like how they hid the sim card in the Quran. You know, because if the authorities touched it then .... Islamophbia! Quran desecration! Blasphemy!

Stupid Jihadi Bitch Samantha Lewthwaite Dead!

Daily Mail:

'White widow' Samantha Lewthwaite may have been killed during the Nairobi siege.

As attempts to flush the remaining militants out of a Kenyan shopping centre continued, officials said three Islamist extremists had died during attempts to free their hostages.

Insiders said one was a white woman – adding weight to the theory that Lewthwaite, the fugitive widow of 7/7 bomber Jermaine Lindsay, was behind the attack that has left 62 dead and 170 injured.

Part of the group that carried out the attack on the mall was formed by US citizens, according to Kenya's foreign minister Amina Mohamed.

Its not 100% for certain she's dead, but don't kill my dreams.

Her first husband died in the 7/7 attacks on the London tube. Her second, Habib Ghani, was reportedly in the attack that killed Omar Hammami.

Its a little confusing how she became on the side of Godane and murdering civilians given the recent death of Ghani who appears to have been aligned with Hammami. Hammami repeatedly stated that he believed the outright targeting of non combatants civilians was Haram or forbidden under Islam.

That certainly wasn't Lewthwaite's opinion as she opined several times praising the 7/7 tube bombings and expressing her desire to die in a similar attack.

A twitter feed thought to be associated with her has been silent since the 21st. As has this Tumbler blog associated with her.

Her blogspot blog, well lets just say it ran into problems. As in more than one problem.

Muslim Brotherhood Totally 100% Banned!

The more things change, the more things stay the same.

An Egyptian court Monday ordered a ban on activities of the Muslim Brotherhood and froze its finances, according to state-run news website EgyNews.

The move is the latest in an anti-Muslim Brotherhood crackdown that began when the military ousted President Mohamed Morsy, who was backed by the Brotherhood, in early July.

The country's Ministry of Social Solidarity said earlier this month that it was considering punishing the group, accusing it of violating a law regulating non-governmental groups, EgyNews reported. The law prohibits such groups from operating as political organizations and forming militias.

The Brotherhood has a political wing, the Freedom and Justice Party, and the current government has accused the Brotherhood of inciting violence.

Nation Completely Unstunned that Terror Fundraising Front CAIR Receives Most $ From Overseas (WTF Update!)

I'll take this breathless moment of unshock to consider how I will continue living my life normally after learning nothing whatsoever about the SOB's over at CAIR:

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) conceals donations from overseas through a series of shell organizations, according to documents from court actions involving the Muslim advocacy group....

“Plentiful legal evidence, acquired in the course of a lawsuit—plus CAIR’s own official filing documents to the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs (DCRA) and IRS—make clear that CAIR has engaged in a thinly-disguised money laundering operation,” David Reaboi, vice president for strategic communications at the Center for Security Policy, told The Daily Caller.

“In addition to violating its 501(c)(3) regulations, CAIR’s undisclosed and hidden foreign donations amount to violation of the Foreign Agent Registration Act as well,” Reaboi continued.

I was also completely unstunned to learn that the largest donor to CAIR was the government of the UAE. And I didn't come close to falling off my chair to learn that their second biggest donor was Saudi Arabia.

But I'm an Islamophobe like the rest of you so the fact that our suspicions about CAIR were completely founded, based on empirical evidence, and not related to prejudice against Muslims at all only reinforces the fact that I'm a bigot.

Update by Howie: WTF!

Council on American-Islamic Relations ... just changed their name to Washington Trust Foundation.

Or perhaps more to the point, WHY?

Well maybe Nadhira just didn't think of that, why do you bigots expect her to understand crazy of color American acronyms, she was only born here.

Report: Al Qaeda Beheads 40 FSA Rebels

I keep getting emails from people with links to videos showing "the Free Syrian Army beheading Syrian soldiers", or things to that affect. The sources of these videos are convoluted at best and at their worst outright propaganda videos of the worst sort made by the Baathist Assad regime. Some of them are even recycled videos from Iraq showing al Qaeda affiliated terrorists committing attrocities and then simply renamed "Syria".

The problem with the Free Syrian Army has been their affiliation with al Qaeda fighters. Their tolerance of them. The occasions when they work with al Qaeda. This is the kind of guilt by association that is legitimate criticism. It is not innuendo based on proximity, it's the actual guilt of those aiding and abetting terrorists.

But more and more we are getting reports that the alliance between the FSA and al Qaeda affiliated groups is falling apart. This would to be further evidence of that:

The terrorists of the Al-Qaeda-Affiliated Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant beheaded 40 FSA armed rebels in Al-Ba’ab region in the Eastern parts of Reef (countryside of) Aleppo on Saturday, FNA dispatches said.
So, is this a good sign? We all know Assad is a terrorist supporting despot which is why many people are eager to see him go. And the reason many don't support arming the rebels is that many of the rebels are al Qaeda or al Qaeda sympathizers. But if the FSA starts fighting al Qaeda and Assad, would that change your mind?

Personally, I don't think we have a bone in this particular fight. No national interest in Syria. Or at least, not enough of a national interest to justify action. So, even if the FSA were all secularists bent on creating a government of constitutionally limited power I still wouldn't support intervention. I'd cheer for the FSA. I'd be happy when they won battles, sad when they lost. But it's their fight, not ours. And if the Israelis felt it was in their national interests to help the FSA, then I wouldn't mind us vetoing Russian objection in the UN. But that's as far as I'd be willing to go.

What do you guys think?

Taliban Murders 78 Christians Injures 141 in Suicide Bombing on Church

Jesus wept:

A pair of suicide bombers blew themselves up amid hundreds of worshippers at a historic church in northwestern Pakistan on Sunday, killing 78 people in the deadliest-ever attack against the country's Christian minority.

A wing of the Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the bombing, raising new questions about the government's push to strike a peace deal with the militants to end a decade-long insurgency that has killed thousands of people.

The Jundullah arm of the Taliban said they would continue to target non-Muslims until the United States stopped drone attacks in Pakistan's remote tribal region. The latest drone strike came Sunday, when missiles hit a pair of compounds in the North Waziristan tribal area, killing six suspected militants.

The attack on the All Saints Church, which wounded 141 people, occurred as worshippers were leaving after services to get a free meal of rice offered on the front lawn, said a top government administrator, Sahibzada Anees.

Muslims Storm Kenyan Mall; Target Non-Muslims: UPDATE -- Dozens Dead, Over a Hundred Wounded (BUMPED)

From CNN:

Gunmen ambushed an upscale shopping mall in the Kenyan capital on Saturday, leading to a fierce gunbattle with police and at least 20 people killed, the Kenyan Red Cross said.

Fifty people more people were wounded in the attack at the mall in Nairobi, said Abbas Gullet, head of the Kenyan Red Cross.

The gunmen burst into the mall and shot indiscriminately, taking some people hostage, according to a senior Kenyan government source.

What CNN left out about the attack:

lijah Kamau, who was at the mall at the time of the midday attack, said that the gunmen made a declaration that non-Muslims would be targeted.

"The gunmen told Muslims to stand up and leave. They were safe, and non-Muslims would be targeted," he said.

The Religion of Peace™. When will the Islamophobia end?

UPDATE by Rusty: This is bad. Really, really bad:

At least 39 people were killed and over 150 others wounded, including foreigners, after gunmen stormed an upscale mall in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi, the country's president said
I'm hearing that number might even climb. There's video at the link, if you can stomach it.

This is the kind of thing al Qaeda has been aspiring to do here in the US for years. I'm actually surprised it hasn't happened here yet.

Our prayers go out to the victims.

Update: Matt Damon: The President of Kenya has told his nation among the dead are "very close members" of his family... This just went up another notch..

Update by Howie: The death toll is still standing at 68. There are reports of two terrorists killed this morning.

Live feed from Kenyan television here.

Twitter has suspended al-Shabbab's @HSM_Press and another HSM_Press2. Announcing your new terrorist twitter feed wasn't enough I guess.

This image is circulating of what appears to be al-Shabaab terrorists inside the mall, although it unconfirmed.

al-Shabaab released the names of the murderers inside the mall, although this is totally based on their word so grain of salt. Update Shabaab denies list. Like I said grain of salt.

The operation to finish them is still ongoing. I fully expect the rest of the hostages to be murdered. Its also probable the death toll will rise even further when the entire scene is secured.

I know its unfair to bomb and burn men women and children in villages of scrub brush with a high tech military, but in Shabaab's case we should make an exception.

Also circulating, a rumor that Stupid Jihadi Bitch Samantha Lewthwaite is involved in the attacks. Known as the White Widow, her Husbands have a habit of finding themselves dead. Her latest reportedly killed recently with Omar Hammami.

But there are also reports that male terrorists disguised themselves as women.

Update: Here is a copy of al-Shabaab's statement.

Update: Hashtag for Muslims rejecting Westgate murder and violence in the name of Islam? Actually no.

Vanilla Anal Secretions

My question is, who thought it was a good idea to test it in order to find out how it tasted?

"Natural aromas can be extracts from plants, fungi, and in some cases animals. The labelling provisions do not require that the kind of flavour is indicated, with the exception of coffee and quinine," Ulla Beckman Sundh at the agency said.

Vanilla flavour, it has been established, is not only derived from the vanilla bean. It can also come from conifer trees, or indeed from the anal passage of a beaver.

Beckman Sundh however questioned whether the beaver is likely to become a common a source of flavouring for baked goods, sweets, soft drinks and other items.

"As far as I know the beaver is not an animal which is bred, so supply is not that great," she said. (Source)

Nigerian Grad Student Uses Science To Prove Homosexuality Is Wrong

Grad student Chibuihem Amalaha proves gay marriage is unnatural:

"A recent publication on May 3, 2013 shows that France is the 14th country in the world that have legalised gay. I asked myself why should a man be marrying a man and a woman marrying a woman, does it mean that there is no more female for a man to marry or there is no more male for a woman to marry? And recently, Britain told Nigeria to legalise gay marriage of forfeit international aid. I thank God for our lawmakers who refused to sign the bill legalising gay marriage. And so God gave me the wisdom to use science as a scientist to prove gay marriage wrong.

"In the area of physics, I used physics with experiments, I used chemistry with experiments, I used biology with experiments and I used mathematics to prove gay marriage wrong."

Read the results of the experiments HERE.

Next, Amalaha plans to use astronomy to prove Miley Cyrus is actually the love child of Elton John and Lady Gaga.

US nearly detonated atomic bomb by accident in 1961: file

Holy smokes!!!

LONDON (AFP) – The US Air Force came dramatically close to detonating a huge atomic bomb over North Carolina in 1961, according to a newly declassified document published by Britain's Guardian newspaper on Saturday.

Two hydrogen bombs were accidentally dropped over the city of Goldsboro, North Carolina on January 23, 1961 when the B-52 plane carrying them broke up in mid-air, according to the file.

One of the bombs began to detonate -- a single switch was all that stopped it from doing so. The three other safety mechanisms designed to prevent an unintended detonation failed.

The US government has acknowledged the accident before, but the 1969 document is the first confirmation of how close the United States came to nuclear catastrophe on that day.

"It would have been bad news in spades," wrote its author, US government scientist Parker F. Jones.

The bomb was 260 times more powerful than the one that devastated Hiroshima in 1945, according to the Guardian.

The accident happened at the height of the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union.

The last gasp of an American traitor, I guess.

In both communications, al-Amriki, who is also known as Omar Hammami, focused on his virulent opposition to Godane's leadership.

"The cause of the problem is basically that [Godane] left the principles of our religion and he is trying to change al-Shabaab into an organisation that oppresses every single Muslim in an effort to make him the next Siad Barre of Somalia," al-Amriki told VOA when questioned about his differences with Godane, also known as Abu Zubayr.

Godane wants to be the "leader of Somalia regardless of whether he is ruled by sharia or by any other laws," al-Amriki said. "Basically he has lost the entire principles of what we began jihad for."

Why The Doxing of LadyLiberty1885 and Other Conservative Female Bloggers Matters

They say, you have nothing to fear because we outed your online Sock puppet.

Blogger Stacy McCain has more on the intimidation campaign against conservative bloggers in North Carolina:
Lady Liberty is a blogger, but she is also a mother worried about her children. Greg Flynn (an editor at the left-wing blog, a former employee of the state department of education and a Democrat Party activist) apparently decided that identifying Lady Liberty by name would be a good way to shut her up, exposing her family to harassment from his radical Democrat allies. Every conservative in North Carolina — no, by God, every conservative in America — should be mad as hell about Greg Flynn‘s vicious intimidation tactics.
Mad-as-hell conservative North Carolina blogger Sister Toldjah has experienced firsthand what the vicious Left is capable of:
No, nothing to fear at all.
Floyd Corkins gets 25 years for trying to shoot up the Family Research Council’s headquarters in Washington DC.
WASHINGTON (AP) — A man who planned a mass shooting at the headquarters of a conservative Christian lobbying group in Washington last year was sentenced Thursday to 25 years in prison for the plot that injured a security guard. Floyd Corkins II was carrying 15 Chick-fil-A sandwiches and nearly 100 rounds of ammunition during the shooting at the headquarters of the Family Research Council. He later told authorities he planned to kill as many people as possible and to smear the sandwiches in his victims’ faces as a political statement. Chick-fil-A was making headlines at the time because of its president’s opposition to gay marriage, and the Family Research Council also opposes gay marriage.
Hats off to these ladies for the standing brave in the face of a liberal Fatwa.

Cornhole Watch: Romain of Ansar al-Haqq Forum is a French Jihadi board similar to the English Ansar al-Mujahideen.

France has arrested the webmaster of a jihadist site on charges of "provoking" terrorism, prosecutors said Thursday just as the government warned hundreds of homegrown Islamist militants were signing up for Syria.

The 26-year-old, identified as Romain, was detained Tuesday for his role as administrator of the Ansar al Haqq website, a "reference" for the radical Islamist movement, and as a translator of magazines put out by militant group Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), Paris prosecutors said.

The announcement comes as French Interior Minister Manuel Valls warned that more than 300 nationals or residents were either fighting in Syria's devastating civil war, planning to go or had recently returned from there.

Eventually, (DRs) McCarthy and Cordell pinpointed the culprit: an overabundance of brewer's yeast in his gut.

More Awesome: al Qaeda, FSA Continue to Clash in Syria

The good news: more reports of clashes between al Qaeda aligned fighters and more moderate, secular forces in Syria.

The bad news: if Syrian rebels keep this up then it will be easier for Assad to win this thing:

The latest round of fighting started when [al Qaeda] fighters tried to abduct a German doctor in Azaz and Northern Storm fighters tried to stop them, rebels said. After expelling their opponents, ISIL fighters spread throughout the town and positioned snipers on rooftops.

Northern Storm fighters moved to the border crossing, joined by fighters from the powerful Tawheed Brigade who came from Aleppo to try to broker a truce. Tawheed has a large presence in Aleppo, Syria's largest city, about 30 km south of Azaz.

"Reinforcements from the Tawheed Brigade were sent to impose a ceasefire on the two sides," said Abu Obeida, a Tawheed spokesman. "There is still no ceasefire yet ... There are negotiations under way."

I keep hearing people say we're supporting the wrong side. No we aren't. Supporting any side is the wrong side when you have an Iranian Hezbollah supporter on one side vs. rebels aligned with Salaafi jihadists and al Qaeda on the other.

Confirming what Everybody Knows: al Qaeda Trying to Produce Chemical Weapons

It's one thing to want to produce chemical weapons, another to train people to produce them, and still another to get them to work. Luckily the path from aspiration to using them successfully is usually a lot longer and harder than people suspect.

However, is it really "news" that al Qaeda wants to use chemical weapons? They want to use nukes, but the fact that they haven't yet is evidence not of lack of intention but rather lack of ability.

I think the same thing can be said about their chemical weapons program. Sure, they want to make them. And, in fact, they've probably tried to use them on several occasions. But homemade chemical weapons almost never produce the mass casualties aspired for.

So, this isn't so much news as it is "news":

On Wednesday, CBS News obtained a document filed by the United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York indicating that three men charged with being members of the al-Shabab terrorist group in Somalia had "substantial knowledge regarding an al-Shabaab research and development department that was developing chemical weapons." ..

The new document says the defendants' planned to join al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, or AQAP, the terror network's branch in Yemen which has orchestrated numerous recent, high-profile a terrorist attacks, including plots targeting the U.S. mainland.

So, al Shabaab had people who they thought could produce chemical weapons. And these guys decided to go to Yemen and join al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, bringing that knowledge with them.

I post this not so much as "news" as a reminder of what we've known for a long time but seem to lose focus on from time to time: al Qaeda is not dead, and the fact that they haven't hit the homeland since 9/11 is not for lack of trying.

Non-Sarcastic Good News in Syria: FSA Killing al Qaeda

Last week the leader of al Qaeda central, Ayman al-Zawahiri, instructed fighters in Syria not to collaborate with the Free Syrian Army. Over the weekend, al Qaeda forces openly clashed with the FSA.

Is it just wishful thinking to suppose that al Nusrah and al Qaeda are on the outs with the FSA? That we'll see the FSA cleaning house and ousting the more extremists among them. Or is this just another localized event with no broader implications?

Mahmoud al-Aboud, commander of the eastern front for the Free Syrian Army, told The Daily Beast on Sunday in a Skype interview that the fighting began Saturday with a car bomb. Killed in the attack, said Aboud, was the brother of Saddam al-Gamal, a local commander of Allahu Akbar Brigades, a group aligned with the FSA in al-Bukamal. After the bombing, Gamal’s men launched a counterattack with small arms fire that killed four fighters in the opposing rebel group....

But this weekend’s clashes, which came after a September 12 message from al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri instructing his followers in Syria not to collaborate with the FSA councils, could mark a more violent stage for the opposition’s fractured ranks. “I think this message means al Qaeda forces are willing to take this fight against us into the public,” Aboud said. “I think this is happening now because there is a political vacuum.”

The thinking in the pro-arm the FSA camp is that after Assad fell then the guns would be turned on al Qaeda. It now seems likely that the various rebel factions are going to turn the guns on each other long before Assad falls.

But the basic problem is that even if the FSA does turn against al Qaeda after Assad falls, it's not clear that they have the means to getting rid of them so easily. Just today in Iraq a car bomb killed 35, probably by the same al Qaeda group now fighting in Syria. And this would be in a country with something resembling a functioning government.

Imagine what they could do in the chaos of statelessness. We need only look at Libya, Somalia, tribal Pakistan, and Yemen to see what these guys are capable of when there is no government to ensure that they operate only in the shadows.

Two British men were being questioned tonight on suspicion of plotting terrorism abroad after they were arrested entering the UK.

The pair, aged 22 and 29 and understood to be of Pakistani heritage, were detained at Dover after arriving from Calais.

Ammunition was seized during the arrests, which triggered raids on an East London property and two vehicles, Scotland Yard said.

That was stupid, bringing some ammo back from Syria.

On the one hand, when our extremists go overseas we benefit in two ways: One, they are likely to get themselves killed meaning one less extremist for us to deal with; Two, they are SEP (Somebody Else's Problem).

On the other hand, a recent study suggests that when extremists come back from jihad abroad that they are more likely to commit acts of violence at home. So those who don't get themselves killed are much more likely to do bad things here. Making them somebody else's problem no more.

All Your Skyscrapers Are Belong To US

The United States is set seize control of a midtown Manhattan skyscraper prosecutors claim is secretly owned by Iran, the justice department said, though the ruling is to be appealed.

The seizure and sale of the 36-story building, in the heart of New York City on Fifth Avenue, would be "the largest-ever terrorism-related forfeiture," the statement added.

A federal judge ruled in favor of the government's suit this week, saying the building's owners had violated Iran sanctions and money laundering laws.

Manhattan Federal Prosecutor Preet Bharara said the decision upholds the justice department claims the owner of the building "was (and is) a front for Bank Melli, and thus a front for the Government of Iran."

Active Shooter at Washington Navy Yard: Terrorism or Crazy? UPDATE: 1 Shooter Down Update II Disgruntled Worker Batshit Crazy Dead Shooter Identified as Aaron Alexis

The Washington Navy Yard was placed on lockdown after multiple shots were fired inside a building on the base, the U.S. Navy said. There were reports of several fatalities.

At least 10 people were injured in the shooting, including eight civilians, one Washington, D.C., Metro police officer and one base officer, D.C. Metro Police said.

The Navy said three shots were fired at the Naval Sea Systems Command Headquarters building on the base at 8:20 a.m., and police were treating it as an active shooter situation. According to the Washington Post, the officer was shot near the room where a lone gunman had barricaded himself. According to the paper, police had the shooter "pinned down" between the third and fourth floors.

A description of the shooter via CNN:
Kelly described the suspect as an adult male, about 6 feet tall with a bald head and medium complexion, dressed in a black top and black jeans.
There's not many details at this time other than reports of up to 10 injured, some fatally.

We'll update when more is known.

Update: Washington Post is reporting at least two shooters as are some other sources. If confirmed multiple shooters make it very likely this is a terrorist attack, rather than your lone nut.

WAPO also has a description of one of the subjects.

A woman who gave her name as Terry Durham said that as she and co-workers were evacuating, she saw a man down the hall raise a rifle and fire toward them, hitting a wall. “He was tall. He appeared to be dark-skinned,” she said.

“He was a tall black guy,” said her co-worker, Todd Brundage, who is black. “He didn’t say a word.”

UPDATE by Rusty: I can't help but think this is terrorism. It fits the MO. Then again, it might just be that I'm a hammer so everything looks like a nail to me.

But as of this writing it looks like they may have at least one of the shooters surrounded. We'll update when we can.

UPDATE by Rusty: Watching the local Fox affiliate live and they are claiming that one of the shooters is reportedly dead, but no official confirmation.

Update by Howie: The police are searching for other possible suspects but the dead shooter has been identified as " A former Navy official in his 50's whose work status recently changed".

He was reportedly targeting specific people with a shotgun

Authorities say the shooter was targeting specific people.

Witnesses say the gunman wore was in all blue and had a double-barrel shotgun.

So it may be the reports of other gunmen are just from the confusion created by the incident combined with all the military and police on site. Its looking very likely that this is a lone crazy disgruntled worker scenario.

We'll update if any other suspects are identified or caught.

Update: The dead perp is identified as 34-year-old Aaron Alexis formerly of Ft. Worth.

Hat Tip: Oliver.

Final Update: Its been determined that Aaron Alexis was batshit crazy, bought a shotgun the day before, despite police contact that indicated he was batshit crazy and hearing voices at a hotel. Navy Yard authorities were notified by police of the batshit craziness of Aaron Alexis.

This was all six weeks before he went off. Somebody um, you know, effed this up royally.

Victims Identified by Syrian Observatory

I've seen this video of al-Qaeda in the Levant (syria) murdering what are claimed to be regime soldiers in the town square in Raqqah before. We ran it I think.

The victims have been identified as...

It later turned out that 2 of them were Muslim A'lawis from the al-Achrafiya village of northern Reef Homs (a doctor called Mustafa al-Jani and his nephew, a school teacher, called Iyad Nofal), based on what activists from Homs city stated to the Observatory

The Common Thread Between Islam and Communism

And don't forget Nazism too. Anyway its the dead bodies.

ike every intellectual worthy of that description, let us be skeptics. When we tried to understand National Socialism, we began with intellectual conceptions. In vain, until we saw the bodies. Neither nationalism nor socialism nor any combination of the two explains what National Socialism is. It is the emaciated, shrunken, martyred bodies, the heaped up corpses, the wounded, burned, tortured, suffering flesh turned to ash. What people say is not important, but what they do. Communism is not to be found in the sacred texts of Marx, Lenin, Engels, Mao, Trotsky, Pol Pot, etc., but in the wasted, starved, martyred bodies which were incinerated behind the barbed wire; in the heaps of bodies and frozen corpses in Siberia. The truth comes from the prisons, the torture chambers, the gulags and the laogai — the death camps — not from The Communist Manifesto and not from Mein Kampf.

...When the facts are established, they can be connected to the Manifesto, Mein Kampf and the Koran, to determine what it is in these basic texts that moves the faithful to kill those who do not share their faith. The Manifesto of the Communist Party — the sacred text of Marxism — and other “Korans” of Marxism, justify the extirpation of the noxious classes. Mein Kampf — the basic Nazi text — maintains the imagined superiority of a people. The Koran leaves no doubt. It affirms the superiority of the chosen race of true believers who are adjured in the name of this superiority to kill, throttle, murder, torture the “infidels” to make them pay the “jizya”. Muslims explain: “There are 123 verses in this book that command killing and making war.” The best-known is “Kill the infidels everywhere where you find them.”

Cornhole Watch: Yassin Ahmed Laarbi

The alleged leader of an Islamic militant cell in Spain who escaped arrest in June when eight of his suspected colleagues were detained has been taken into custody, the Spanish Interior Ministry said Monday.

The suspect, Yassin Ahmed Laarbi, a Spaniard, was arrested Monday in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta on Morocco's north coast, where the eight other suspects also were detained on June 21, an Interior Ministry statement said.
The suspected cell was "a structure based in Spain, with connections in Morocco, Belgium, Turkey and Syria, dedicated to radicalizing, recruiting and sending mujahedeen (fighters) to Syria with the aim of conducting jihad and achieving martyrdom," according to a court order issued in June.

Well that's what he gets for hanging out with Yousef al-Khattab, no?

Creepy Northampton clown terrifying residents by standing around on street corners staring at passers-by

According to the Northampton Herald and Post the clown has appeared in several locations in the Abington and Kingsley areas of the town. On each sighting, he or she has worn the same white face makeup, red wig, all-in-one suit and oversized bowtie.

He is also sometimes seen carrying a clown teddy.

The newspaper also reports that the clown knocked on someone's door and offered to paint their window sills despite having no painting equipment. She reported the men to police for their suspicious behaviour stating they looked like clowns. The article stated: “A number of sightings of people dressed as clowns have also been reported across Northampton in recent weeks”.

The newspaper reported: "He doesn't juggle. He doesn't twist balloons into animal shapes. He just stares."

Creeps me out..

AQIM Sends Video of Hostages to INA

Al-Qaeda’s North African branch has released a video purporting to show seven kidnapped Westerners, the Mauritanian news agency ANI reported, footage France’s foreign ministry deemed “credible.”

The hostages are four Frenchmen kidnapped from a uranium compound in northern Niger exactly three years ago along with a Dutchman, a Swede and a South African who were abducted from Timbuktu in northern Mali in November 2011.

“Based on an initial analysis, the video seems credible to us and provides new proof of life of the four French hostages kidnapped in Arlit (northern Niger) on September 16, 2010,” foreign ministry spokesman Philippe Lalliot said Monday, adding that the eight minutes and 42 seconds of footage were being authenticated.

In the video, released to the Mauritanian news agency ANI, Frenchman Daniel Larribe introduces himself as the head of the French group and says he was kidnapped by al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM).

ANI reported on its website that he was speaking on June 27 and said he was in good health.

There was nothing to show whether the seven hostages were filmed at the same location.

The video includes statements from Arribe’s compatriots Pierre Legrand, Thierry Dol and Marc Feret as well as South African Stephen Malcolm, Dutchman Sjaak Rijke and Swede Johan Gustafsson.

“Of course we react positively every time we see that they are alive and in relatively good health,” said Legrand’s grandfather Rene Robert.

We pray for their quick and unconditional release.

Good News! Obama Waves Ban on Arming Terrorists for Syrian Rebels

Washington Examiner:

President Obama waived a provision of federal law designed to prevent the supply of arms to terrorist groups to clear the way for the U.S. to provide military assistance to "vetted" opposition groups fighting Syrian dictator Bashar Assad.

Some elements of the Syrian opposition are associated with radical Islamic terrorist groups, including al Qaeda, which was responsible for the Sept. 11 attacks in New York, Washington, D.C., and Shanksville, Pa., in 2001. Assad's regime is backed by Iran and Hezbollah.

The president, citing his authority under the Arms Export Control Act, announced today that he would "waive the prohibitions in sections 40 and 40A of the AECA related to such a transaction."

Those two sections prohibit sending weaponry to countries described in section 40(d): "The prohibitions contained in this section apply with respect to a country if the Secretary of State determines that the government of that country has repeatedly provided support for acts of international terrorism," Congress stated in the Arms Control Export Act.

Well al-Qaeda is not a state... yet. But helping them acquire a state somehow apparently became in our national interest.

"Ph.D" Leading us to War in Syria ... Never Even Enrolled in Ph.D. Program

Well, looky here:

Elizabeth O’Bagy, the Syria researcher at the center of a week-long controversy surrounding her academic credentials and her work with the Syrian opposition, admitted for the first time to The Daily Beast she was never enrolled in a Ph.D. program despite representations she made to the press and multiple organizations for whom she worked.
Why does this matter? Because it's easier to lead the gullible from a position of authoritay, especially when they are predisposed to the narrative being peddled by said authoritay figure.

So, Kerry and McCain wanted to believe in the opposition and wanted to bomb Syria and when this "Dr" came around saying that the opposition was mostly "moderate" they could say, "Hey, a Ph.D. says they're moderate so stop spouting off wingnuts!"

The real problem with O'Bagy's research, though, is neither her affiliation with Syrian opposition groups nor with her phony Ph.D. The real problem is the research itself, which appears to me to be nothing more than her going to Syria and talking with her friends who really are moderates. So, of course it looks like most people are moderate when, in fact, most of the people you talk to are moderates.

The Terrorist and the Analyst

Somehow I cannot avoid thinking that I'm the annoying yet unnamed terrorism writer.

Toward the end of May, Omar stopped tweeting. With no new information, except for a steady stream of contradictory rumors about his status that flew around Somali media and government circles, people began to lose interest. I periodically emailed him trying to find out if he was still alive, but I received no response. After several efforts to keep the conversation going, I gave up and assumed we were finished.

In October, Omar surfaced again with another urgent video about the danger he faced with al-Shabab. After posting the video, he went silent again in public but responded to a few direct messages on Twitter. He said he no longer had access to email (he was using Twitter on his phone) and complained about another terrorism writer's clumsy attempts to bait him into a conversation.

Yeah I'm annoying, call it a gift.

But Jawa Report and my now defunct Howiejawa Youtube channel quickly put more eyeballs on Omar's message than anyone. At a time when the only journalists lending weight to the story were Christof Putzel and myself.

In private even Rusty questioned the veracity of the Abu_M twitter feed but deferred to my "Its him ,I swear!" protests.

But to be fair, I was pretty sure Omar was captured and it was a Zionist false flag operation. Christof Putzel was ahead of the whole crowd.

Shortly after everyone wanted to chit chat with Omar. I just regret that the story didn't end better despite my, you know, annoying front page personality.

Can't win them all ;-)

Regrets not so much for Omar, he made his bed, but for his parents Debra and Shafik. And also for the children of his Somali wives, born of an American, who are now in the hands of al-Shabbaab. Because his stubbornness and selfishness to be a martyr Omar denied his children their birthright as Americans, education, food, a better life. Which to me is the greatest tragedy of this entire mess.

Hot Filipino on MILF Action!

You remember that peace deal the Philippines made with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front? That didn't last long:

The Philippines launched air strikes against Muslim rebels as President Benigno Aquino sought to bring an end to a week-long standoff that has killed 62 people and complicated efforts to bring peace to the south.

“We are gaining ground as far as our calibrated response is concerned,” military spokesman Brigadier General Domingo Tutaan told reporters in Manila. Two helicopters fired three rockets between 1 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. yesterday with forces on the ground checking on casualties among Moro National Liberation Front members, another military spokesman, Captain Jefferson Somera, said in a mobile-phone message.

I've been meaning to comment on this for a few days, ever since a faction of the MILFs took dozens of Christians hostage, but kept getting sidetracked. It's good to see the government responding with force.

Thanks to Rantburg for the reminder.

Islamic Fatwa Issued Against al-Shabaab for Murder of Omar Hammami

American jihadi Omar Hammami was murdered "in cold blood," a Somalia-based Islamic center said, backing up reports that the militant from Alabama was killed Thursday by his rivals within the Somali Islamic extremist group al-Shabab.

The Islamic World Issues Study Center published a tribute online in which it describes the killings of Hammami, 29, and two other militants as a "tragedy," saying al-Shabab should be "directing their arrows at the enemies of the group," according to a report issued Saturday by SITE Intel Group, an American private company that analyzes terror threats.

"Here they are today being killed in cold blood at the hands of those who belong to jihad ... and the world is watching," the tribute said, according to SITE Intel Group.

"One wonders who will be next," the eulogy said. "And more importantly, who will be responsible for the blood of those brothers?"

The Islamic penalty for murder is death.

Death to Shabaaab!

I always wanted to say that ;-)

Study: 50% of Syrian Rebels are Islamists

The good news just keeps gettin' gooder:

The new study by IHS Jane's, a defence consultancy, estimates there are around 10,000 jihadists - who would include foreign fighters - fighting for powerful factions linked to al-Qaeda.

Another 30,000 to 35,000 are hardline Islamists who share much of the outlook of the jihadists, but are focused purely on the Syrian war rather than a wider international struggle.

There are also at least a further 30,000 moderates belonging to groups that have an Islamic character, meaning only a small minority of the rebels are linked to secular or purely nationalist groups.

But I'm sure we'll be able to keep weapons out of the hands of the worst-of-the-worst. Just not the second-to-worst-of-the-worst after we've given them to the second-best-of-the-best --- which is really just a euphemism for the third-in-line-to-the-worst-of-the-worst.

Remember When Jesus Turned to the Thief and Said, "Cut off his hand!"?

Busy day for me, including two midterms I had to give. Then my wife's minivan had a flat -- which pissed me off, because I had the same flat tire "fixed" on Saturday. So I took it back to the shop today, all ready to chew them out (I had the whole thing rehearsed) when, lo and behold: it was a different hole in the tire!

Ugh. I hate when that happens.

Anyway, I thought I'd throw out a little red meat. AFP:

A Yemeni court on Sunday ordered the amputation of the right hand and left foot of a man convicted of robbery, the official Saba news agency said.

The court in Sanaa found Abdulrahman al-Juri guilty of attacking a man and robbing a sum of cash he was transporting in a vehicle belonging to a money exchange firm, Saba reported.

Amputation of limbs is a punishment stipulated by sharia, or Islamic law for robbery.

Al Qaeda Fighters on American Help in Syria

Over at the Daily Beast a reporter sits down for dinner with four members of al Qaeda in Syria. Each was from a Gulf state but had been educated in the UK or Canada. On the prospects of receiving weapons and/or troops to help fight Assad:

Even if I didn’t have this, I wouldn’t take one from the Americans,” said Faraz, as he patted his Kalashnikov. “The Israelis would make sure it exploded in my hand. You [Americans] have your reasons to get involved now, and the reasons are not humanitarian.” He recited a long litany of U.S. military actions in the Muslim world that rarely if ever saved lives, and most often brought death and destruction.

“If the U.S. dares to ‘put boots on the ground’ here, they need to know that we will blow them out of Syria,” said Mohammed, staring intensely. “If they want another battle with us, we are ready for them like we are in Afghanistan, like we are in Iraq. If the US cared about the Syrian people, they would have done something before 100,000 Muslims [Syrians] were killed.”

With this, Faraz added: “Tell America: we will fight you where ever you kill more Muslims. We are ready when you are.

For once, I'm in total agreement with al Qaeda. I don't want to help them, and they wouldn't want our help even if we offered.

Its a Financial War Silly: Those Who Forget the USSR Are Doomed to be The Next USSR

Now after 9/11 we needed to get some payback. I'm all for payback.

But were we ever going to turn Afghanistan into New Mexico? No probably not.

Would the toppling of Sadam Hussien result in dominoes of western freedom falling all over the middle east? Um, no. No it didn't.

In fact when the despot dominoes fall they are more often replaced with a more radical Islamic Sharia state rather than freedom. You know, like Tunisia which is probably the most successful of the Arab Spring states. Its now a state where your daughters are not safe to be let out alone.

I know a lot of folks are resisting the warnings Vladimir Putin is giving about intervention in Syria. But maybe, just maybe we should give it a little more consideration. I mean considering the USSR. You know, what USSR?

Russia cannot even keep the peace in Syria, which was a responsibility of the former USSR. Mainly because they were trolled into an overreaction and invasion in Afghanistan.

Tough lesson.

Two days ago al-Qaeda's leader Ayman al-Zawahiri said.

- Al-Qaida's leader on Friday marked the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks by calling on Muslims to strike inside the United States, with big attacks or small, using any opportunity they can to "bleed" America financially.

"We should bleed America economically by motivating it to continue its huge expenditure on its security as America's weak point is its economy, which already has begun stumbling because of the military and security expenditure," he said. "America is not a mythic power and the Americans, after all, are humans who can be defeated, felled and punished."

So there you have it, al-Qaeda's strategy is the same as the strategy that caused the fall of the Soviet Union. Russia has faced Islamic insurgency ever since, in Chechnya , Beslan . And has a lot less resources to do so since the breakup of the USSR.

Islamic terrorists allied with al-Qaeda murder Russian soldiers just as savagely as any American civilian in Iraq.

That's not to say we and Russia should not fight al-Qaeda and their allies. But we should be much smarter about it and work together much more than we have.

Because al-Qaeda does not seek to defeat either of us in a strait up battle. In fact in many cases when western forces show up, the Jihadi crowd moves on to the next lowest hanging fruit. The next anarchic region where they can impose their will free of forces that can truly oppose them. al-Qaeda are the ultimate oppressors despite their narrative, they chose to impose themselves on the people least able to defend themselves. Afghanistan, Somalia, Mali, Libya, Yemen. Wherever there is a vacuum they can fill. Most people, even Muslim peoples do not want to live under the radical 6th century butcher's state al-Qaeda is selling. Its why they prey those who can't resist.

They troll us not into acting, which we should, but into overreacting. To over expend blood and treasure in the swatting of a fly.

More war and anarchy is always in al-Qaeda's interest. So to interfere further in Syria and get ourselves expending blood and treasure on a non solution is not only folly, its what al-Qaeda wants.

If the US and Russia can work together to end the Syrian conflict, well that's not in al-Qaeda's interest. Its never in their interest for us to act smartly, but to act out of hast and emotion.

Because their ultimate defeat and our victory depends not so much on how many we kill nor how many invasions we can pull off. But on the financial health of the west combined with the long term ability to strike al-Qaeda's and their allies as needed. Denying them control and safe havens, yet not giving them a gift of a larger wars that help breed experienced and resistant Jihadist pests while also assisting them in their goal to run us broke.

al-Qaeda seeks to make us financially unable to interfere where and when needed. Deny them that and al-Qaeda and the jihadist movement become a minority that cannot win.

It certainly makes a lot more sense than doing exactly as bin-Laden and Zawahiri predicts and wants us to do.

Thanks to Intelwire.

US Consulate Attacked in Afghan City on Iranian Border

We tried to rebuild. We tried to civilize these people. We failed. I think there is a lesson here:

U.S. State Department deputy spokeswoman Marie Harf said in a statement that the assault began around 5:30 a.m., when "a truck carrying attackers drove to the front gate, and attackers -- possibly firing rocket propelled grenades and assault rifles -- starting firing at Afghan forces and security guards on the exterior of the gates. Shortly after, the entire truck exploded, extensively damaging the front gate."

Harf confirmed that the attack ended after Afghan security forces took control of the outside of the Consulate and that there were no American casualties. It was not entirely clear whether any attackers managed to breach the facility.

I'll just note that Herat is near the Iranian border, so a large percentage of the population is Shia. So, I guess the question is ..... do we know these were Taliban?

Our Ally Pakistan Also Finds Compulsion in Religion

And you thought needing to register and have identification to vote was a tall requirement, I mean its not like actual, count these jellybeans voter suppression, but the libs think its unpossible.

They should try being a Ahmadi Muslim in Pakistan:

Regardless of their religious beliefs, Ahmadis have the right to lead private lives, being citizens of this state, which if seen logically, is granted to them by the very constitution that takes away their right to practice religion freely

evel occurred when right before the May 2013 election, separate voter lists were released for them. This led to the disassociation of the Ahmadiya community from the general election. They were of the view that being citizens of Pakistan, they have the right to vote like every other Pakistani irrespective of his/her religious beliefs. If there are no separate voter lists for other minorities residing in Pakistan then there should not be any separate voter list for Ahmadis. However, this reservation was never addressed by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). The hatred against Ahmadis is so deeply rooted in our society that even representatives of the government and its institutions avoid taking sides with Ahmadis.

In Pakistan religious persecution of the Ahmadi is not just a practice, its celebrated.
Just a few days ago, on September 8, 2013, an anniversary was celebrated all over Pakistan. This anniversary marked 39 years of the passing of the Second Amendment that pronounced Ahmadis as non-Muslims. Some of the most shameless and hate-filled statements were released by many a prominent religious leader of Pakistan on this day. Some called for the social and economic boycott of Ahmadis, some branded their activities as suspicious and called for serious action against them.

Syrian Rebels Find There is Compulsion in Religion

Washington Times:

Al Qaeda-linked Syrian rebels who seized the ancient regime-held Christian town of Maalula last week forced at least one person to convert to Islam at gunpoint and executed another one after he refused, residents said Tuesday, Agence France-Presse reported.

“They arrived in our town at dawn on Wednesday and shouted ‘We are from the Al-Nusra Front and have come to make lives miserable for the Crusaders,’” an Islamist term for Christians, a woman, who identified herself as Marie, told AFP in Damascus.

Then al-Nusra insulted the Prophet Isa AKA Jesus.
AFP reported that the most tragic story was that of Rasha, whose fiance Atef was brutally murdered by the jihadists.

“I rang his mobile phone and one of them answered,” she said.

“Good morning, Rash rush,” the voice said, using her nickname. “We are from the Free Syrian Army. Do you know your fiance was a member of the shabiha (pro-regime militia) who was carrying weapons, and we have slit his throat.”
The man told Rasha her fiance had been given the choice to convert to Islam or die.

“Jesus didn’t come to save him,” he taunted.

Oh, I'm sure Atef will find grace, where the al-Nusra murderers will not.

Allah doesn't take kindly to murderers, or those who try and place themselves in the his judge's seat.

War in Syria Back on?

I think we'll wake up one morning to news that Obama green lighted war on Syria? His motivation will be I'm so sick of this! One day one way, next day another. Let's just bomb these people to get it over with so we can move on to more important things. Like immigration reform:

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is rejecting Syrian President Bashar Assad’s suggestion Thursday that he begin submitting data on his chemical weapons arsenal one month after signing an international chemical weapons ban.

Speaking at a news conference with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Kerry noted that Assad said a 30-day lead time would be standard.

“There is nothing standard about this process,” Kerry said, because Assad has used his chemical weapons.

“The words of the Syrian regime in our judgment are simply not enough.”

Also, middle class!

An eight-year-old child bride has died in Yemen of internal bleeding sustained during her wedding night after being forced to marry a man five times her age, activists have claimed....

Yemen once set 15 as the minimum age for marriage, but parliament annulled that law in the 1990s, saying parents should decide when a daughter marries.

Omar Hammami Reportedly Killed by al-Shabaab?!?! ***Bumped***

Its not the first time he's been reported dead. But it seems that Abu Mansoor Al-Amriki's luck may have finally run out.Z

A US Islamist fighting in Somalia was killed Thursday in a shootout with Al-Qaeda linked Shebab militants, former comrades he had fallen out with, witnesses said.

Alabama-born Omar Hammami -- better known as Al-Amriki or "the American" -- was one of the most prominent foreigners fighting in Somalia, and the US State Department had offered a $5 million (3.8 million euro) bounty for his capture.
"There was a gun battle between Amriki and his men and other fighters, the reports are that Amriki is among those killed," said Moalim Ali, a resident in Bardhere, a small settlement in southern Somalia.

Two other extremists were also killed in the battle, including one other foreigner.
There were conflicting reports of the latter's identity, with some reporting he was Egyptian, others suggesting he may have been British or Pakistani.

"Amriki and two other fighters, one of them foreigner, have been killed near Bardhere," said Mohamed Wardhere, another resident.

There was no immediate response from the Shebab.

"Pics or it didn't happen", is a good rule for Somalia. But wire services are abuzz with eyewitness accounts lending greater credibility to these reports.

If or when absolute proof of life or death comes out we'll follow up.

O I Nbro you from the oppression of innocent people and we seek refuge in You from gloating enemies
Hat Tip:Switched.

UPDATE by Rusty: I'm ambivalent about this. Me and J.M. Berger have been trying to talk Omar into turning himself in for a while now, ever since he broke with al Shabaab. If Omar isn't dead yet then it's inevitable he soon will be.

So, on the one hand a wanted terrorist is (or might be dead). On the other hand, this particular wanted terrorist broke with the very same terror group that his membership in put him on the wanted list, and has been doing his best to undermine the terror groups legitimacy.

It didn't have to end this way Omar. You could have turned yourself in. But, alas, it ended in the very way you hoped it would end when you first went to Somalia: martyrdom.

I'd say win-win, but the fact that it was Shabaab that killed him makes me suspect that the outcome of this is a little more complicated then when terrorists usually die.

Does the Jihad Benefit Muslims?

If you've net yet read J.M. Berger's open letter to Jihadis yet you should.

I’ve spent some years now reading what you write and say to each other, and talking to you directly from time to time. I’ve been thinking about those conversations a lot, and I have a few things I want to say.

I think most of you are trying to do the right thing. Sure, some of you are jerks, sometimes very violent and homicidal jerks (and you don’t have a monopoly on that). But I believe many of you, perhaps most, get involved with jihadi movements because you genuinely care about the welfare of Muslims and about doing the right thing according to the dictates of your religion and individual consciences.

It is not what you believe, but how you pursue those beliefs, that leads to conflict between us. Al Qaeda’s ideas guide your movement, and the philosophy of Al Qaeda (unlike that of Islam) is based entirely on destruction. This ideology is best expressed in the “Constants on the Path of Jihad,” a text famously interpreted by Anwar Awlaki, which boils down to one simple idea: “If you’re winning, the strategy is kill, and if you’re losing, the strategy is kill.”

“Constants” states – explicitly – that the outcome of your actions doesn’t matter. Win, lose, help people, hurt people, it’s all the same to Al Qaeda.

"As long as there is slaughtering, we're with them. If there's no slaughtering, there's none, that's it. Buzz off," as one member of your movement put it, in an unguarded moment. The only real constant is death.

Berger then goes on to note how the Jihad really has not resulted in a better life for Muslims.

I'd made a similar statement to some stupid Jihadi Bitch hiding in Kenya that runs an al-Shabaab fan feed.

That none of the Muslims living under the Arab Spring or in areas where Qaeda al-Jihad are better off now then they were 12 years ago. Not in Libya, not in Afghanistan, Mali, Somalia, Iraq. The list never ends.

The death, destruction of heritage and treasure spent in the Jihad have left Islamic countries and the lives of Muslims and the reputation of Islam in the world are worse off, not better off than they were before the Jihad.

At least in western eyes.

But that overlooks something. The Jihad is not about bringing a better life to Muslims. Its about Islam and the influence of Islam. In their eyes everything else is secondary. The Jihadis believe they are advancing their particular brand of radical butchery.

And you have to admit, they've certainly advanced butchery in today's world.

There are those who would argue that this is against Islam, that Muhammad commands to leave the Muslims and the world a better place than how you found it. That's a belief that we in the west, like Berger and myself included, would find noble, "Like us." A value that is much more a a projection of our own values onto the Muslim world than one that world holds itself.

But then again as we so often found out, They're not us.

Not All Victims are Heroes

This piece by Phyllis Chesler goes side by side with Rusty's Recent editorial When Academics Flop on the Couch of a "Syrian Moderate"

I once married a Muslim "man of color" and assumed, unthinkingly that, as an outsider himself, he might somehow identify with and make common cause with women.

I found that this misguided assumption was untrue and, in my new book, "An American Bride in Kabul," I write about my unsentimental education in such matters, an education which took place both in America and in Afghanistan long ago.

I had also once assumed that all formerly colonized peoples and Third World impoverished countries were filled with naturally noble inhabitants who were instinctively spiritual and kind to each other.

I quickly discovered that barbarism is indigenous to such regions, and that tribal and religious wars, the most profound misogyny, cruelty, and corruption were accepted asnormal." It was only a crime to criticize such practices.

We aspire to relate to them, to find common ground. To see that we're all the same, but the reality is we're not.

Bikers vs. Muslims: Come on, Who do you Think was Gonna Win?

It's kind of funny how some people think that 9/11 should be a day to air grievances. They should wait for the appropriate time to complain about the US government oppressing them. Like Festivus:

A few dozen demonstrators attending a rally on the Mall once billed as the Million Muslim March were vastly outnumbered Wednesday by a Christian group objecting to their event and a counterprotest consisting of motorcycle riders honoring Sept. 11 victims....

Ruby Sous, from Kansas City, stressed that Muslims and American-Muslims “stand with America against terrorism.”

“We want to stand here in solidarity with the American people against hate and violence,” she said.

But other speakers addressed fringe topics, condemning what they called the use of U.S. tax dollars to kill innocent people in the Middle East and advancing conspiracy theories around the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks

So, they stand against terrorism ... also, 9/11 was an inside job?

After reading that, I began to hope that after the Airing of Grievances they would have gone to Feats of Strength. I'd put my money on the bikers in that event.

Despite being denied a no-stop permit, thousands of bikers are riding through DC to show support for the victims of 9/11, and to counter the truly distasteful and insulting Muslim rally, which is gathering on this sacred day to protest the treatment of Muslims since 19 Muslims flew planes into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and a Pennsylvania field in 2001.

Some Muslims on Facebook Celebrate 9/11 with Cake

Hey, at least they're not blowing up sh*t.

Follow the link for more.

To be fair to the owners of the Facebook page, I don't think they can be held responsible for what a commenter posts. Some people have lives and don't monitor everything said on their Facebook page. Or their blogs. I'm one of those people.

And there are a few Muslims there who responded that the cake was in poor taste.

But the majority of the comments? 9/11 was an inside job. You know, to make Muslims look bad.

Because claiming 9/11 was an inside job makes Muslims look good.

Some days you want to just punch people like this in the face. Some days more than others. And today, most of all.

*I'll also note that the page is that of a group of British Muslims, but this cake was definitely not baked in the UK. Look at the 110v outlet in the background. That's North America. I'm guessing the cake and the pic are old and some kind of artistic commentary which I'm sure is lost on me. But it's the kind of thing which gets circulated for various reasons, and in this context, to literally celebrate 9/11. So, regardless of the intent of the person who took the photo (some commentary on blood for oil, Bush-Hitler, no doubt) the pic is certainly being used here as a statement of support for the 9/11 murderers.

Extradition Hearings Begin in Ireland Over Man in Jihad Jane Plot to Murder Lars Vilks

Ali Charaf Damache was the ringleader in the Jihad Jane plot to murder Swedish cartoonist Lars Vilks and commit other acts of terror in Europe. He's now fighting extradition to the US, claiming his "human rights" would be in jeopardy should he be transferred to the US for trial.

I dunno, is there a human right to cornhole virginity?

AN Algerian-born Irish citizen, who is wanted in the US on terrorism charges, planned for a group to train in explosives with al-Qa'ida in order to support terrorist attacks against US and European citizens, a court has heard.

Ali Charaf Damache (48), who has been living in Ireland for a decade, is wanted in the US to face charges relating to the conspiracy to provide material support for terrorists and attempted identity theft to facilitate an act of international terrorism.

Oh, yeah, Damache is also suing the Irish government over abusing his human rights in a Cork prison. He claims the other inmates and guards "insulted" him. No, I'm serious. If he thinks his rights are being violated when people insult him, I can't wait to see his reaction when they tell him to pick up the soap.

It's Time for a Select Committee on Benghazi - Here's How to Make it Happen

On September 11, 2012, one year ago today, the U.S. Diplomatic Mission in Benghazi was attacked by a heavily-armed group of 125-150 gunmen, whose trucks allegedly bore the logo of Ansar al-Sharia, an Islamic militant group.  U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens, Foreign Service Information Officer Sean Smith, and former Navy SEALs Tyrone S. Woods and Glen Doherty were killed during a series of raids, commencing at nightfall and continuing for over eight hours through the next morning.  At the time of the attack, dozens of federal employees were on the ground in Benghazi.  To date, most of these eyewitnesses have been kept away from investigators by the Obama Administration.

It is now a year after the terrorist attack that took four American lives at Benghazi.  A year later, and after numerous part-time investigations, the American people are today faced with more questions than answers.  This is partly due to successful stonewalling effort by the Administration, but half-hearted efforts by congressional leaders are aiding and abetting.

In an effort to find answers, a coalition of over one million Americans, 1,000 special forces veterans and nearly 170 members of Congress has publicly backed a move to establish a House Select Committee on Benghazi, which would be a full-time committee focused on this one issue.

Unfortunately, the bill by Rep. Frank Wolf to create the Select Committee (HR 36) co-sponsored by nearly 170 House Republicans, has been bottled up in committee by House Rules Chairman Pete Sessions of Dallas, who steadfastly refuses allow a floor debate or vote on the proposal.  Challenged by constituents, Rep. Sessions has indicated that he doesn't personally believe a House Select Committee investigation is necessary or worthwhile, and thus feels justified in bottling up the bill and preventing a floor debate.  He also claims (oddly) that Senator Harry Reid would somehow control a House committee investigation.

Many Americans, including many of his own constituents, disagree with Rep. Sessions.  It's been over a year since the attacks, and the families of Stevens, Smith, Doherty and Woods deserve real answers as to why their loved ones died.

A few key questions:

Although Ambassador Stevens was officially operating in a diplomatic capacity in Libya, the mission in Benghazi is still not fully understood at this time, and may never be known.  There are credible allegations that Stevens and other operatives at the Benghazi installation were arranging the transfer of anti-aircraft weapons to Islamic militant groups fighting in Syria against the regime of Bashar Al-Assad.  This has not, however, been officially acknowledged.

The various investigations to date have been unable to determine with any certainty what the mission was at Benghazi, why Ansar al-Sharia found it a useful target and what assets, if any, were secured by the militants during the attack.  The American people deserve answers to these questions.

We know that in the months leading up to the September 11, 2012 attacks, Benghazi had become a hotbed of violence.  At least a dozen violent events had taken place in Benghazi between April and September, 2012.  According to reports, over 200 security incidents took place in Libya between June 2011 and July 2012, a quarter of which took place in and around Benghazi.

Well prior to the Benghazi attacks, State Department officials in Libya made repeated requests for additional security.  These requests were denied in Washington despite ample documentation of the threat posed by violent extremist militias.  As an example, on March 28, 2012, Ambassador Cretz sent a cable from Tripoli to Secretary Clinton requesting additional security assets in Libya.  On April 19, 2012, the response cable from the Department of State to Embassy Tripoli, bearing Secretary Clinton’s signature, acknowledges Ambassador Cretz’s request for additional security but instead articulates a plan to scale back security assets for the U.S. Mission in Libya, including the Benghazi Mission.

On June 7, 2012, Ambassador Stevens asked the State Department to keep the two security teams the Clinton April cable ordered removed from Libya. This request is denied.  On July 6, 2012, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Diplomatic Security Lamb strongly asserted that Stevens should not make a formal request for an extension of the security teams.  On July 9, 2012, Ambassador Stevens responded with a cable that stressed that the security conditions in Libya had not met the requisite benchmarks established by the State Department and the U.S. Mission in Libya to warrant initiating a security drawdown.  He requested that a sufficient number of security personnel be permitted to stay.

According to reports, a Benghazi security official and a battalion commander had met with U.S. diplomats three days before the attack and had warned the Americans about deteriorating security in the area. The diplomats had been advised, "The situation is frightening, it scares us."  Stevens' diary entries from the time expressed his concern about the growing al-Qaeda presence in the area and his worry about being on an al-Qaeda hit list.

To date, the various investigations have been unable to determine why the repeated requests for improved security were denied and why the Benghazi installation was left virtually defenseless.  The families deserve answers.

According to reports, the attackers entered the compound around 9:40 pm under a barrage of automatic weapons fire and RPGs, backed by truck-mounted artillery and anti-aircraft machine guns.  Phone calls were apparently made to the embassy in Tripoli, the Diplomatic Security Command Center in Washington and a U.S. Quick Reaction Force located at a an annex just over a mile away.  Ambassador Stevens telephoned Deputy Chief of Mission Gregory Hicks in Tripoli multiple times to tell him the consulate was under attack, but his initial calls went unanswered.

Security agents informed their headquarters in Washington about the attack soon after it began.  Approximately an hour later, Pentagon officials informed Defense Secretary Leon Panetta about the attack.  Apparently, one or more surveillance drones were deployed, which arrived over the mission beginning at 11:10 pm local time (5:10 pm Eastern Time) to provide a video feed to Washington. At approximately 5:41 pm Eastern Time (11:41 local time,) Secretary of State Hillary Clinton telephoned CIA Director David Petraeus to confer on the attack.  At this point, the attack on Benghazi had been underway for approximately two hours.

It is not known what Barack Obama was told during this period, what orders, if any, Obama gave, or whether his orders were carried out.

Former Navy SEAL Tyrone Woods was part of the small response team at the CIA annex, approximately a mile from the compound where Ambassador Chris Stevens and his team were under attack. When he and others heard the shots fired, they requested permission to go to the main compound, but were told to "stand down," according to sources.  Woods and at least two others ignored those orders and made their way to the main compound, which at that point was on fire.

Upon learning of the attack at Benghazi, another team of Americans in Tripoli, including former Navy SEAL Glen Doherty, decided to travel there to respond to the attack and hopefully rescue the besieged Amercians.  In order to travel to Benghazi, they commandeered a small private jet in Tripoli and paid the pilots to fly them to Benghazi.  After being held up at the airport for several hours, the team arrived at the CIA annex around 5:00am.   Upon arrival, Doherty began searching for his friend and former Navy SEAL Tyrone S. Woods.  He found Woods on the roof of the annex manning a MK46 machine gun with two other agents.  Doherty and Woods subsequently came under intense mortar fire from the terrorists.  During this barrage, a mortar round hit Woods' position, fatally wounding him.  A second round fell on Doherty, killing him instantly.

Despite the fact that the attacks on the main compound and annex went on for over eight hours, there was not, at any time, any official military response to the militant attack on the main compound.  To date, none of the various investigations have determined who in the chain of command was giving the orders during the attack, including the alleged "stand down" orders.

Again, we still do not know, over a year later, what Obama knew about the Benghazi attack, when he knew it, what orders he gave, or whether his orders were faithfully carried out.  The families deserve answers to these questions.

After the attacks, the Administration perpetuated a deliberately misleading and incomplete narrative that the violence grew out of a demonstration caused by a YouTube video. The Administration consciously decided not to discuss extremist involvement or previous attacks against Western interests in Benghazi.

It is now well-known and acknowledged that the attack on Benghazi was a preplanned terrorist attack and not a spontaneous event in response to an online video.  It is also well-known that there was no reason whatsoever for Barack Obama or any member of the Administration to believe, at any time after September 11, that the attack on Benghazi was some spontaneous event in response to an online video.  What is not known or understood is why President Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, White House Spokesman Jay Carney, U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice and others were provided talking points identifying the controversial video as the cause of the attack.  None of the various investigations have determined how this false narrative came to be the official story line distributed by the Administration.

The Administration's response to the attack was to announce that the FBI would conduct an investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice.  A year after the attack on Benghazi, not a single arrest has been made by the FBI in connection with the attack.

The families of Chris Stevens, Sean Smith, Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty deserve answers to these questions--and so do the American people.

It's time for a House Select Committee.

If you agree, please contact Rules Chairman Pete Sessions and tell him:

Maybe the US War on Syria Isn't On After All?

I just don't see The One going through with it after Putin's move and less than 50 votes in the Senate. I know a lot of you guys think Obama has some dictatorial ambitions, but the truth is he's a weak President who's only source of power was partisanship and a cult like following from low information voters and progressive hipster clowns. With one move he's managed to lose both sources of power.

Sure, he could act, but I just don't think he cares enough about Syria to knuckle down and take on his base of power. Without them, he won't be able to do all of the important things he really dreams about. Like, a giant statue of himself which shoots flames from its eyes.

More Evidence That Syrian Rebels Committed Chemical Attacks

Some of the child victims from Syria's chemical attacks may be Alawite children kidnapped by the Obama-supported Syrian rebels back in August:

The horrifying pictures of dead children being used by the Obama administration to justify an attack on Syria, with the claim that the Assad regime carried out the chemical attacks that killed those children, while emotionally heartbreaking, do not tell the story of those children and do not tell you the main point the Obama administration is trying to coverup.

Those children were kidnapped over a week earlier, before they were slaughtered... by the Obama backed Syrian rebels.

August 11, 2013 a report discussed the rebels attacking the Latakia village and Sheikh Mohammed Reda Hatem, an Alawite religious leader in Latakia said "Until now 150 Alawites from the villages have been kidnapped. There are women and children among them. We have lost all contact with them."

The children were identified through pictures and videos of the children dead or dying.

The Telegraph has more on the kidnappings.

More Released Gitmo Detainees Engaged in Terror

An unclassified version of a September report from the Director of National Intelligence reveals that another five former Guantanamo Bay detainees have either been confirmed as reengaging in terrorism or are suspected of doing so. The report comes just as a judge in Algeria has approved parole of two detainees recently transferred to Algerian custody from the Cuba-based detention facility.

Of the 603 former detainees tracked by US intelligence services, a total of 100 have now been confirmed as reengaging in "terrorism" or "insurgent" activities, while another 74 are suspected of reengaging. This brings the total rate of recidivism to nearly 29 percent, up from 28 percent as of the last report six months ago.

Bangladesh Indicts Bloggers for "Blasphemy"

Remember, we are told that Bangladesh is a "moderate" Muslim country. The four atheists accused of "blasphemy" on the internet could face up to 14 years in prison each for their "crime":

In Bangladesh, four atheist bloggers have been indicted on charges of blasphemy, accused of hurting people's religious feelings by defaming Islam and the Prophet Mohammed....

Last April, hundreds of thousands of Muslims rallied in Bangladesh's capital, chanting "God is great, hang the atheist bloggers," and demanding that authorities enact anti-blasphemy laws to punish people who insult Islam.

It's funny, you'd think a god as "great" as Allah would have thicker skin. You ever notice how it's the insecure ones that get pissed off at what people are saying about them?

In related news, Pastor Terry Jones plans to burn a Koran on the anniversary tomorrow of 9/11. Normally I don't encourage this kind of thing, but it's actions like Bangladesh's that make me want to burn my own copy of the Quran. Not so much that I'm trying to piss off Muslims as the fact that I'd really like to piss off governments that limit freedom of speech and religious expression.

And you know what? When some Muslims react to "blasphemy" like they did in Bangladesh it does kind of make me want to piss them off, too. You know, just for kicks and giggles.

Pissing fascists off: it's therapeutic.

Taliban Beats, Tortures, And Murders Woman Who Wrote That The Taliban Abuses Women

Banerjee's bullet-riddled body, with some of the hair ripped off her head, was found on Thursday morning.

The militants who barged into the Afghan home of Indian author Sushmita Banerjee and later shot her asked her why she wrote nasty things about them, the victim's in-laws told her Kolkata-based relatives on Saturday. [...]

In 1998, she wrote the bestselling memoir "Kabuliwalar Bangali Bou" (A Kabuliwala's Bengali Wife), offering a vivid description of the suffering of women under the Taliban.

Saudis Ban Terrorist Propaganda on Internet

I thought they already did this, but I guess not:

Saudi Arabia said Monday it will outlaw the dissemination of information on the Internet for the benefit of "terrorist" groups, in line with a decision taken by Gulf Arab monarchies....

The legislation targets those who "create sites and publish information on the Internet or a computer network for the benefit of a terrorist group to enable contacts among its leaders or its members, to promote its views or funding," said the agency.

In related news, the Saudis banned themselves from the internet.

One Punch, One Kill

A black man screams that he hates white people and will knock out the next white person he sees. The next white person was Jeffrey Babbitt, a friendly 62 year old who cared for his ailing mother and spent his days helping friends and neighbors:

A 62-year-old man who was brutally attacked in Union Square last week died Monday.

On Wednesday, a man shouting that he "hated white people" punched victim Jeffrey Babbitt - who is white - in the face, witnesses said, causing him to fall and strike his head on the ground.

Lashawn Marten, 31, who is black, "made statements to the effect that I'm going to punch the first white man that I see," said NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly.

Investigators have not yet concluded whether this was a hate crime or not. I hope Lashawn Marten will at least be made aware that killing creepy ass crackas is frowned upon.

And some people think George Zimmerman should have taken a few more punches before using lethal force...

An American Jew Was First to Die on 9/11

Shameless book plug for the biography of Danny Lewin.

ewin died on September 11, 2001, at age 31. He was on American Airlines Flight 11, the first plane to hit the World Trade Center, and was almost certainly the first person killed in the attacks on that horrible day.

Lewin was sitting in seat 9B. With his Israeli military training and understanding of Arabic, he may have figured out what was going on, perhaps even tried to stop it. According to flight attendants' calls relayed to authorities on the ground, the first passenger to be killed was seated in 9B. He was stabbed to death.

Never forget.

Meanwhile in Afghanistan

The Nation Building continues.

Fifteen months ahead of the planned withdrawal of U.S. combat troops from Afghanistan, an anti-Christian hate campaign involving several leading Afghan lawmakers and some media outlets is raising additional concerns about the future of religious freedom in the conservative Islamic country.
Advocacy groups say the anger is directed at Afghan Christians in India – where thousands of Afghan refugees remain and a small church congregation meets in New Delhi – and that the lawmakers concerned are calling for them to face the death penalty.

Converts from Islam to Christianity should be killed according to Islamic law (shari’a), in a bid to stop the growth of Christianity among Afghans inside and outside the country, according to one leading member of parliament cited by the Afghan Voice Agency news service.

Congratulations to Australia for Electing Conservative Government

You might have missed this, but Australia just elected a new government headed by a truly conservative PM. How conservative is this guy? I was searching for news and found this picture of the new Prime Minister Tony Abbot (center) pictured next to .... Mark Steyn.

How cool is that?

He won running as an outspoken conservative in a country with compulsory election laws (yes, they make low information voters go to the polls) and by a landslide.

I think some of our politicians in the US could learn a thing or two. Here's some commentary from a British Tory sick and tired of the current Cameron government's wishy-washy, milquetoast toast, "moderate" style of governing:

As head of the Liberal/National coalition, he unseated a Labor government which had been in power since 2007. But here's the rub: Mr Abbott stands for all the things which, in this country, the Cameroons repeatedly claimed would make the Conservative Party unelectable.

An Oxford-educated devotee of the late Lady Thatcher, Mr Abbott wants to cut taxes and is against gay marriage, thinks man-made global warming theory is bunkum, wants to reduce immigration, and intends to end increases in overseas aid.

And on Syria?
For unlike President Obama and Mr Cameron, the new Australian PM understands that, in Syria, the alternative to the bad guys may be even worse guys.
Anyway, congrats to The Realist of Queensland and to any of our other Aussie readers.

AQ Linked Group Claims Attack on Egyptian Interior Minister

The inside-the-beltway zombies keep spouting off the conventional wisdom that the reason the American people aren't gung ho about a war in Syria is because of Iraq. In other words, they're blaming Bush. That has some explanatory power. Some people are still blaming Bush. These people are called Democrats.

But why aren't Republicans supporting this? Iraq? Partially. But I think a lot of us are Middle East intervention weary because of Libya and Egypt. We don't have to go back years and years to be aware of the after the fall of the dictator, what next? question.

We know what comes next. Benghazi. The Muslim Brotherhood. And stuff like this:

An Al-Qaeda-inspired group based in Egypt's Sinai has said it was behind a bombing that targeted the interior minister in a failed assassination attempt, a statement on militant Islamist forums said.

"God has allowed your brothers in Ansar Beit al-Maqdis to shatter the security organisation of the murderer Mohamed Ibrahim through a martyrdom operation," the group said in the online statement, pledging further attacks.

A car bomb ripped through the interior minister's convoy as he was leaving home for work on Thursday, killing one person.

Ibrahim, who was travelling in an armoured car, was unscathed.

When the Assad regime falls, one of the greatest enemies of humanity will have fallen. But what comes next will probably be just as bad. Or worse.

We tried engaging the Muslim world. We failed. The lesson here? Never try.

U. S. Postal Stalkers

Now it makes sense.

Everyday there's this U.S. Postal Service vehicle driving down my street. Even when it's raining, or sleeting, or snowing, they drive by. When I'm out shopping or running errands, their trucks are always around.

They are stalking me.

Youtube user Interminably Abused has been chronicling her own stalking by the U.S. Postal Service. She has plenty of video evidence:

Even ComCast is stalking her:

She also has videos of other stalkers, including her landlord, landscapers, carpet cleaners for her building, janitors in office buildings she visits, various people in all different private vehicles on the road, shoppers in stores, Google search results, and advertising signs along the street.

I think Time-Warner cable may also be involved, as I frequently notice their vehicles in my area.

Frightening big brother stuff.

Study: Red Unicorn, Rainbow Brigades Dominate Syrian Opposition

rebel unicorn flag syria.jpg

Ah, now I know where President Obama, John Kerry, and John McCain are really getting their information:

The Levantine Rainbow Brigade

One of the most diverse and inclusive groups in Syria, the Rainbows are a true symbol of the original values of the Syrian revolution. Openness, plurality and equality represent the central ideas of this group, whose membership sometimes rises to double digits.

They often shame their radical opponents by appropriating their language and using it in a positive manner. For example, they say things like ‘we are on a jihad of love’, and ‘let’s behead hate’. It’s not quite clear why, but those slogans are seen as irritating and vaguely hippy-ish by many Syrians. Yet, as the Rainbows say, it’s better to be irritating and be heard than to be ignored like a passing cloud.

Now that's some funny stuff right there.

Syria - Recommended US Strategy

Here's a crib sheet for the confusing armed conflict in Syria which will hopefully help people formulate an informed opinion regarding possible US involvement.

Syrian Mess explained.jpg

With that clarification, I recommend that Pentagon planners use the ground pepper and fly feces technique for their Syrian conflict military strategy. On a large map of Syria, use pepper and fly feces to indicate strongholds of the opposing sides. Then pick the preferred winner. (More....)

The US Capital on Fire Doesn't Necessarily Mean Terrorist

Maybe they are just concerned about the super cold winters in DC or something?

I ask you John McCain.

As debate grows over the extremism of some armed factions battling to overthrow Syrian President Bashar Assad’s regime, an incendiary illustration on the Facebook page of one such group leaves little doubt where its leaders envision the uprising ending – with masked Islamic fighters marching through Washington, D.C., as the U.S. Capitol burns in the background.

The image is one of eight photos posted on the official Facebook page of the “Al-Aqsa Islamic Brigades,” a small armed Sunni rebel faction fighting with the Free Syrian Army, the main umbrella military organization of the opposition forces. Two other photos posted on the group’s page feature the widely recognized black flag of the al Qaeda in Iraq terrorist group, which operates freely in Syria.

Brave Mujahideen of the Taliban Murder Middle Age Indian Woman

Her crime? She didn't like the Taliban:

Suspected Taliban militants in Afghanistan on Thursday shot dead an Indian woman whose memoir about marrying an Afghan and life under the Islamist militia was made into a Bollywood movie, officials said....

Her husband, Jaanbaz Khan, answered the door, only to be quickly bound and blindfolded, provincial police chief Gen. Dawlat Khan Zadran told The Associated Press.

The militants then dragged Banerjee outside, took her to a nearby road and shot her at least 15 times, Zadran said.

She escaped the Taliban going back to India only to .... return to Afghanistan? I'm not blaming the victim here, but what possesses a woman to want to return to that sh*thole?

Good News: Syrian Rebels May Finally Wipe Out Pesky Aramaic Language

If it were a language spoken by some obscure tribe of Native Americans the liberals would lining up to stop this horror, but since its the language Jesus spoke to the Bible Thumper's..... meh.

like the unnerving evangelical support of Israel, like the not-too-subtle hum on the right that some lives, Christian lives, are simply more important than other, Muslim ones.
You know who else thinks Christian lives are less valuable than Muslim lives, I mean besides Julia, Muslims... but they don't feel guilty about it.

The sound of artillery reverberated Thursday through a predominantly Christian village north of Damascus as government troops and al-Qaida-linked rebels battled for control of the mountainside sanctuary.

The hit-and-run attacks on the ancient village of Maaloula, one of the few places in the world where residents still speak Aramaic, highlighted fears among Syria's religious minorities about the growing role of extremists among those fighting in the civil war to topple President Bashar Assad's regime.

...Maaloula, about 40 miles (60 kilometers) northeast of Damascus, had been firmly under the regime's grip, despite sitting in the middle of rebel-held territory east and north of the capital. The village was a major tourist attraction before the civil war. Some of its residents still speak a version of Aramaic, the language of biblical times believed to have been used by Jesus.

In 2008, Assad and his wife, Asma, visited the St. Takla convent, eating with Christian orphans there. In the same year, Assad took former U.S. President Jimmy Carter for a stroll in the area.

The attack highlights fears among Syrian Christians that the alternative to Assad's regime, made up mostly of Alawites – followers of an offshoot of Shiite Islam – would not tolerate minority religions.

The nun who spoke to AP said there were reports that the militants threatened villagers with death if they did not convert. The report could not be independently confirmed.

Not to be outdone Egyptian Islamists moved against the Cross Worshipers in Dalga
The Coptic Orthodox priest would only talk to his visitor after hiding from the watchful eyes of the bearded Muslim outside, who sported a pistol bulging from under his robe.
So Father Yoannis moved behind a wall in the charred skeleton of an ancient monastery to describe how it was torched by Islamists and then looted when they took over this southern Egyptian town following the ouster of the country’s president.

“The fire in the monastery burned intermittently for three days. The looting continued for a week. At the end, not a wire or an electric switch is left,” Yoannis told The Associated Press. The monastery’s 1,600-year-old underground chapel was stripped of ancient icons and the ground was dug up on the belief that a treasure was buried there.

“Even the remains of ancient and revered saints were disturbed and thrown around,” he said.

A town of some 120,000 — including 20,000 Christians — Dalga has been outside government control since hard-line supporters of the Islamist Mohammed Morsi drove out police and occupied their station on July 3, the day Egypt’s military chief removed the president in a popularly supported coup. It was part of a wave of attacks in the southern Minya province that targeted Christians, their homes and businesses.

Shabaab Loses Twitter

Business Week:

NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) — The flagship Twitter account of al-Shabab, Somalia's al-Qaida-linked terror group, was closed Friday for the second time this year, less than 24 hours after a U.S.-based terrorism expert reported violations of Twitter's terms of service.

The closure comes only days after al-Shabab claimed a failed assassination attempt against Somalia's president and tweeted that the next time the president wouldn't be so lucky.

Al-Shabab uses Twitter mainly to make claims of enemy kills and to spread its view of events in Somalia and East Africa. A United Nations report on Somalia released last month said U.N. experts believe the person running the English-language account is a British member of al-Shabab.

Bias Confirmed: When Academics Flop on the Couch of a "Syrian Moderate"

I don't like to play seven degrees of Kevin Bacon even though I'm only three steps from Kevin Bacon. No, really, it's true. I have a close relative in the business who worked with a guy who worked with Kevin Bacon. Even without this relative I'm only four degrees from Kevin Bacon. I have a buddy who has family in the business. Etc, etc. It's actually both a sociological and mathematical phenomenon based on overlapping social circles and geometric progression of numbers. The point being that every one is socially connected to every one in far more ways thane we'd like to imagine.

So, I don't like to play connect the dots. When you start playing the connect the dots game then you are already halfway to becoming Charles Johnson.

Remember Charles Johnson from Little Green Footballs? He used to make claims like this leftist is connected to that dictator before he switched to claiming this right winger is connected to that white supremacist. Those connections sometimes being as tenuous as they had their photo taken with some third person thus tainting the first person in his mind with the stink of the latter person for the crime of being connected by a third party.

Anyway, this kind of stuff drives me bonkers. It's why I never ran any articles on Hillary Clinton's connections to terrorists because her aide (Mrs. Anthony Weiner) had cousins in Palestine who were sympathetic to terrorists. I got news for you: I have a cousin who is a dedicated Marxist and teaches at a major university in the greater Boston area and I have another cousin who is a white supremacist who likes to use the word "mulatto" a lot.

I'm tainted because I'm connected.

These "connections" are then used to explain some phenomenon that we don't like. Hillary's stance on Israeli-Palestinian peace can be explained by her connections to terrorists in Palestine.

Or, if you're still a reader of Little Green Footballs, it might be something more along the lines of: Robert Spencer's stance on Islam is explained by his connections to white supremacists in Europe. Those connections being that he had his picture taken with people who once had their own pictures taken with white supremacists.

You get the point.

With that caveat in mind, let's play connect the dots on why it is that so many of our lawmakers think that the Syrian opposition is mostly populated by "moderates".

I don't think the answer is really "connect the dots" as Bryan Preston, elucidating in PJMedia on an earlier article in Front Page Mag, suggests. Or, at least, I don't think we can rightfully say that just because Elizabeth O'Bagy from the Institute for the Study of War has connections to Syrian activists who have connections to Sunni Islamists that this explains it all.

What Preston's revelations do, though, is perfectly illustrate the point I made last week about academics, journalists, and bias in the Arab world:

The problem that Westerners have is that when we talk to people in the Middle East we talk to people who share our values. Our friends in the Middle East are liberals. So, when an academic or journalist goes to Egypt they crash on the couch of their buddy who they went to grad school with. ...

And then our buddy connects us with their buddies. And what do the friends of this over educated, Mac using, iPhone tweeting, beer drinking, nominally Muslim guy or gal look like? Why, he hangs out with a bunch of people like him. A bunch of other liberals.

So, our "researcher" gets a first hand view of the "Arab street" which, oddly enough, seems to be filled with people not so different than them....

We conclude from our "experience with the Arab street" that any change will be a change for the better. From a more repressive regime to a more liberal regime. Shiny happy thoughts....

I have to wonder where Dr. O'Bagy got her information from on who controls what territory in Syria? From her interview, if I'm understanding it correctly, she's been on the ground in Syria recently. I'm betting that she was shown around by ... her friends in Syria. See above.

Which is exactly what Bryan shows in his report, that as a member of The Syrian Task Force Dr. O'Bagy friends in Syria -- the people she got her information from -- have an agenda. And that agenda is not strict neutrality, it's getting rid of Assad.

And, more from my earlier post:

Of course John McCain thinks we should be supporting the Syrian opposition militarily. When McCain went to Syria, who did he meet? Well, other than a terrorist or two accidentally thrown into the mix, he met with the liberal/secular opposition. He met with the people he was meant to meet with. And this isn't a conspiracy
I suggested that McCain's meeting was set up by the State Department, in fact it looks like it was set up by Dr. O'Bagy as reported by Front Page Mag.

So, naturally McCain's view of the "facts" on the ground are tainted by the same biases that Dr. O'Bagy's "facts" on the ground. This is how bias works. It's not a conspiracy, it's just what happens when humans interact with one another.

Last, let me suggest that the Syrian rebels the Dr. O'Bagy and McCain are backing are in fact "moderates". This isn't a case of taqqiya, but one of not understanding that a "moderate" in Syria is most likely anti-Israel and at best ambivalent about Islamism.

The sad fact is that most Muslims in the world can't be called "moderate" if by "moderate" you mean a "supporter of secular liberalism". Groups like the Muslim Brotherhood really are "moderates". That's kind of the whole point: their "moderates" are our "extremists".

This isn't the overt deception of lying liars who lie, it's the more subtle deception of seeing a world we want to believe in coupled with with a strong belief in unicorns, rainbows, and whirled peas. We want to believe they're like us because .... wouldn't it be nice if every one were as awesome as me?

I guess that my larger point is that we don't have to believe that the people we are being led into war by are lying to us (Bush lied, millions died! -- remember that one?). Remember that old line from George Costanza? It's not a lie if you believe in it. It was supposed to be a joke, but it's actually a pretty astute observation. Well, as far as any observation which is true by definition can be astute.

These people really think that we should go to war in Syria because they really think the opposition is mostly populated by moderates (in the Western sense of the word) who really will be able to take control of the state once Assad falls.

This is how subtle biases, bad social science, and activism can meet in the perfect storm and lead to bad foreign policy decisions and worse. Sometimes when academics get it wrong, people die.

NYT on Syrian Rebels: What an incredible smell you've discovered!

Rebels in Syria eagerly await the beheading of a Priest in June of this year

File under: information the American public would like to have known before President Obama decided to go to war with Syria:

The moment the poem ended, the commander, known as “the Uncle,” fired a bullet into the back of the first prisoner’s head. His gunmen followed suit, promptly killing all the men at their feet.

This scene, documented in a video smuggled out of Syria a few days ago by a former rebel who grew disgusted by the killings, offers a dark insight into how many rebels have adopted some of the same brutal and ruthless tactics as the regime they are trying to overthrow.

You'll notice that the NYTimes claims the video was "smuggled" out of Syria only "days ago". Like, this is all new -- you know news -- to them.

If that's the case, then I'd like to know what rock the staff at the NYTimes has been hiding under for the last two years. It's a happy place. I'm guessing there are ponies and rainbows there too.

For literally dozens of similar videos of rebels murdering people in Syria, just scroll through our Syria archives. Unfortunately there are so many of these same type of snuff videos coming out of Syria that our archives can't store them all, only the ones from the past 6 months or so.

Lars Vilks Attacked at Art Gallery! UPDATE: False Alarm, it was "Art"

No English news that I can see at this moment, but here's a Google translation from the original Swedish:

A man in their 70s have been arrested after an alleged attack on Lars Vilks.

He went into a gallery with a submachine gun-like weapon...

Police have cordoned off a large area around Gallery Rönnquist & Quist in Malmo after the alleged attack.

Bomb Technicians are on the way from Gothenburg.

It now arrested the man went at 15 o'clock in the gallery near Gustav Adolf Square in Malmö.

He was carrying a red briefcase and said he wanted to show his art.

- Those who take care of Lars Vilks said he may show outside bag. When he opened the bag and the bag was there any kind of firearm. It looks like an old machine gun, says gallery owner Henry Rönnquist.

Lars Vilks bodyguards then drew guns and forced the man on the street.

Too bad they didn't shoot the suspect. But, then again, this is Sweden. I'm surprised the government let the bodyguards have guns at all.

As you can see from the image above, calling what Vilks does "art" is ... er ... a stretch. But inasmuch as anything "edgy" is "art", which is more controversial today: hardcore pornography or poorly drawn cartoons of Muhammad as a dog playing soccer?

UPDATE: Speaking of edgy "art" ....

It later turned out that the gun was not real, but a work of art that man should have liked to show off, police said.
Everything is art these days. Let me suggest that showing your piece of "art" that looks exactly like a gun to a guy who has hundreds of death threats each year isn't exactly what we'd call "smart".

Now you'll have to excuse me, my bowels are telling me it's time to leave some "art" in the "porcelain art gallery".

Meanwhile in Libya... Remember Libya?

The Independent:

A little under two years ago, Philip Hammond, the Defence Secretary, urged British businessmen to begin “packing their suitcases” and to fly to Libya to share in the reconstruction of the country and exploit an anticipated boom in natural resources.

Yet now Libya has almost entirely stopped producing oil as the government loses control of much of the country to militia fighters.

Mutinying security men have taken over oil ports on the Mediterranean and are seeking to sell crude oil on the black market. Ali Zeidan, Libya’s Prime Minister, has threatened to “bomb from the air and the sea” any oil tanker trying to pick up the illicit oil from the oil terminal guards, who are mostly former rebels who overthrew Muammar Gaddafi and have been on strike over low pay and alleged government corruption since July.

But Gaddafi and Osama are still dead, right?

Besides their guy won the election, performance in office is like so not important.

Videos Implicate Syrian Opposition In Chemical Attacks

(Screenshot of Saudi chemical bags labeled in Arabic and English)

Walid Shoebat writes:

Recent news of a chemical weapons attack in Syria smacks of desperation. The question comes down to who is most desperate right now, the Assad regime or the Muslim Brotherhood rebels? Consider that since June, Assad's forces have been winning. According to a CBS News report from last month, victories for the rebels had become "increasingly rare" and that the Muslim Brotherhood-backed opposition fighters were sustaining "some of their heaviest losses" near Damascus.

The New York Times echoed this sentiment, even saying that before gaining the upper hand, concerns were that Assad would use chemical weapons; he did not.

In fact, even before Assad's forces gained the momentum, a UN official reportedly found evidence of rebels using chemical weapons but no evidence Assad's regime did.

One of several videos with Shoebat's article purporting to show chemical tip missiles being launched by Syrian Rebels:

The whole thing is an excellent read. I highly recommend it. I hate to quote a quote but within Shoebat's article is a quote from historian Mark Almond. He explains why Obama and most Western leaders are so desperate to pin the blame on Assad:

"Western governments... want to say 'Gotcha'. They have been demanding the fall of Assad for more than two-and-a-half years now and it has become increasingly frustrating that his regime has shown much more resilience than they had expected, despite the resources that they and the Gulf Kingdoms have thrown into the war on the other side.

It is also like a distraction from the embarrassment of Egypt, where we see the European and the US governments basically using weasel words to avoid any kind of condemnation of a massacre in the streets of Cairo. So there are both the specifics of Syria and the context of what is going on elsewhere in the Arab world, especially in Egypt."

Omar Hammami's Wives Kidnapped by al-Shabaab

And also they murdered his friend for sheltering them. Or so he said yesterday in a telephone interview to VOA Somalia.

Here's an English summary of the story.

Omar Hamami said even after he has left from Al Shabab and Al Qaeda he still believes that he is a terrorist man wanted by the U.S government and the western countries.

When Omar Hamami was asked about his decision to relinquish from Al Shabab and Al Qaeda he answered that he has survied from assassination attempts against his life by the Al Shabab’s senior leader Ahmed Abdi Godane.

“Godane made Al Shabab as his own group and used to suppress the Muslim people.” he said.

Hamami has described Al Shabab’s leader Ahmed Godane like former Somali dictator Mohamed Siad Barre who was ousted by armed militias in 1991 which led Somalia to a lawless state.

The foreign fighter in Somalia has complained that his two Somali wives were kidnapped by Ahmed Godane and even he foes not aware of their fates.

“IO am also hiding my self in the Baay and Bakool regions.” he added rejecting to name which of the two regions he is living.

There is no word on the fate of his wives or children. Although its the first indication in some time that Omar AKA Abu Mansoor Al-Amriki is alive.

Cleveland Monster Saves the Taxpayers Millions of Dollars

GOP Leadership: It's Okay to Kill 100k Innocent People, But Kill 1k with Chemical Weapons and, by Golly, You've Crossed a Line

Has. Everyone. In. Washington. Lost. Their. Minds?

So, we're going to war over ..... credibility? Okay, I get that credibility is actually in our national interest. But given that the current credibility gap has been created by a President who has a speak loudly but carry a small stick approach to foreign policy then I'm not sure how this helps.

Especially given that the President wants a proportional response. Striking "proportionally" has never worked. If you have enemies you kill them. You destroy them. Unless you're Grotius or a less than average IQ'd part-time Constitutional lawyer, you understand that in war proportionality is a sure recipe for losing.

The pundits keep talking about "no good options" or "just a choice of bad options" in Syria. I agree. But what kind of lunacy is it when we have a President who is given an array of bad options, and continually chooses the worst among them?

For instance, let us assume for arguments sake that military strikes against Syria are among the less bad options. Okay, now having decided to do something (won't somebody think of the children!) the President decides to ..... do the least effective something?

When you go to war, you don't pull punches. When you strike, you strike to kill. If you're not willing to go all the way, then the war isn't worth fighting. Period. End of story.

Which is just one more reason we shouldn't let this moron drag us into war.

Of Course, Christians Always Shout "Thank God!" While Beheading Infidels...

On Tuesday, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) suggested that Fox News host Brian Kilmeade was Islamaphobic because he said that Syrian opposition groups shouting "Allahu Akhbar! Allahu Akhbar!" as rockets hit government offices demonstrated Islamist influence among the opposition.

"I have a problem helping those people screaming that after a hit," Kilmeade said. McCain responded: "Would you have a problem with an American or Christians saying 'thank God? Thank God?'" He added, "That's what they're saying. Come on! Of course they're Muslims, but they're moderates and I guarantee you they are moderates." McCain provided no evidence to suggest that Syrian opposition groups are moderate, as opposed to the wide swath of evidence suggesting that the opposition is heavily infested with al Qaeda. (Source)

Moderates in action:

20% of CIA Applicants in "Subset" Had Terror Ties

I like how all the reporting about this certain "subset" of individuals applying for CIA jobs are rejected for having potential terror ties. It kind of makes you wonder out of which "subset" of the larger population do 20% have sympathies with groups like Hezbollah, Hamas, or al Qaeda?

Now, let me think about it. One in five of this group of people supports terror or at least has some sympathies with the goals of those terrorists.

That's a tough one. Meditating. Thinking. Wheels turning. Light bulb appearing over head. I got it! I bet they're talking about ...... wait a minute. I had it. It's slipping. It was something that starts with an .... was it N? No. M? Yeah, that was it. It starts with an M!

M ..... Mu .... Ma .... Mo ..... Me ..... Mennonites? Yes, that must have been it. Mennonites!

The CIA found that among a subset of job seekers whose backgrounds raised questions, roughly one out of every five had “significant terrorist and/or hostile intelligence connections,” according to the document, which was provided to The Washington Post by former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden.

The groups cited most often were Hamas, Hezbollah, and al-Qaeda and its affiliates, but the nature of the connections was not described in the document.

The catch 22 here is that while the people in this *cough* "subset" are the most likely to have sympathies with terrorists, it is also true that people in this *cough* "subset" are also the most likely to have the skills necessary for infiltrating, collecting info, and analyzing those same terror groups. So, before you go saying that we should ban all people from this *cough* subset from working for the CIA, keep in mind that a lot of the work that goes into catching terrorists came from people from this *cough* "subset".

But the fact that the Washington Post is using a euphemism and can't bear to use the actual "M" word says a lot about our MSM. And I think it also says a lot about the state of denial which exists within this "subset" about the extent of radicalization.
