Egyptian security forces arrested 23 Egyptians suspected of belonging to a radical Muslim terror group that was planning to attack Jewish worshipers during a pilgrimage to the grave of Rabbi Yaakov Abuhatzeira, who is buried in the Egyptian city of Damanhur, the security forces announced over the weekend.

The suspects, some of whom were arrested several weeks ago, are also accused of planning to blow up American ships in the Suez Canal and carry out terror attacks in Egypt. They are also accused of planning to cripple major banks in Cairo and Alexandria

Various reports indicate that the suspects were caught with a large weapons cache, including warheads for Qassam rockets manufactured by Hamas. Egyptian security forces say they set up training camps where they practiced using explosives.

In response, a seal hunt supporter retaliated with a pie to the face of a female PETA protester waiting for the arrival of Prime Minister Stephen Harper on Friday.

The head of the Taliban in Pakistan, Hakimullah Mehsud, was killed in a U.S. drone attack, Pakistan state television reported Sunday.

A tribal elder told the AP that he attended Mehsud's funeral in the Mamuzai area of Orakzai on Thursday. He said Mehsud was buried in Mamuzai graveyard after he died at his in-laws' home. The elder spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of retribution from the Taliban.

Mehsud issued two audio tapes after the strike denying the rumors. But Pakistani intelligence officials told the AP on Sunday that they have confirmation that the Taliban chief's legs and abdomen were wounded in the strike.

Rumors that the leader of the Movement of the Taliban in Pakistan has been killed in a US airstrike have resurfaced in the Pakistani press. But the Taliban have denied the reports and the Pakistani Army and US intelligence officials have no indication that he was killed.

The source of the claim is Ibrahim Sajid Malick's blog at the end of a typically Pakistani paranoid rant about the trial of Aafiya Siddiqui:

This ruling came a day after Pakistani Ambassador Hussain Haqqani, had a private meeting with Judge Richard Berman, which he described as “positive”.

He does make an unintentionally good point though: he claims that the judge is allowing Siddiqui's statements while she was detained in Afghanistan to be entered in as evidence. Statements given before she was read the Miranda warnings.

Which doesn't show that the trial is somehow unfair, but rather that it's the wrong venue. She should be tried in front of a military court, not flown half way around the world to New York for a civilian trial.

As Michelle Malkin has pointed out several times over the past few weeks, Siddiqui's trial is a shadow of what is to come when her uncle Khalid Shiekh Mohammad takes the stand.

A NATO official says an Afghan interpreter killed two U.S. service members before he was killed himself at a combat outpost in eastern Afghanistan.

NATO forces clashed with Afghan troops Saturday at a snow-covered highway outpost, calling in an airstrike that killed four Afghan soldiers, U.S. and Afghan officials said.

The former? No explanation being offered right now. But the Taliban have publicly announced that they are going to try and and penetrate the Afghan military and government. And then of course there was the recent CIA killings by a Taliban double-agent.

I'm not jumping to conclusions here -- this really could be a couple of heated argument on the relative merits of Jessica Alba vs. Shakira gone bad -- I'm only offering this as one possible explanation on every one's mind yet the MSM unlikely to vocalize it.

Omar Hammami, the face of evil

It's a serious question. Alabama born and Somali al Qaeda affiliate leader Omar "Abu Mansour al-Amriki" Hammami (yes, I said leader) apparently was led to jihad through his connections on Islamic Networking.

That would be the same Islamic Networking that runs Muslim Pad and is run by Sarafaz "Sasjamal" Jamal (in Jordan now?) and Fatimahye, his wife in Houston. In the past, their ClearGuidance website brought together such luminous and 'moderate' Muslims as the Toronto 18. Not-so-incidentally, Hammami spent a year in Toronto.

Here is a partial list of the over 500 messages Hammami left on the forum as "al-Mizzi".

Among the many revelations this excellent piece by Andrea Elliot at the NYT is that Hammami met up with Daniel Maldonado (aka "Daniel Aljughaifi") in Egypt through their contact on the website. The two then went off to fight the jihad in Somalia together before Maldonado was picked up by counterterror agents near the Kenyan border.

From prison Maldonado now claims he never really was fighting for al Qaeda and his online friends him as a case of unjust imprisonment. As do they another Maldonado associate from Islamic Networking also sitting behid bars , Tarek Mehanna. Mehanna's crime? Lying to the FBI about Mehanna going to Somalia to fight in the jihad.

And given that Mehanna and Maldonado are friends, the probability approaches near certainty that Mehanna was also aware that Hammami was in Somalia for jihad as well.

You really do need to read the entire article. It's rather long, but it's got Pulitzer written all over it.

The article really describes how the internet is used in three ways for terrorism. First, Hammami becomes radicalized on the Islamic Networking site (or, partially through it). Second, Hammami uses the internet to hook up with like minded jihadis. Third, Hammami produces propaganda which is widely distrubuted through YouTube and intended to recruit fresh blood and raise money for the cause. Lastly, Hammami's use of Facebook to message his sister suggests that he and al Shabaab are also using social media for their own purposes.

Especially revalatory was that Hammami appears not only to be a fighter and English language spokesman for al-Shabaab, he's also a leader:

In the three years since Hammami made his way to Somalia, his ascent into the Shabab’s leadership has put him in a class of his own, according to United States law-enforcement and intelligence officials. While other American terror suspects have drawn greater publicity, Hammami exercises a more powerful role, commanding guerrilla forces in the field, organizing attacks and plotting strategy with Qaeda operatives, the officials said.

As full of information as it is, the article fails to explore two key points.

First, it's clear that Hammami was an all American boy until his conversion to Islam. Of course most Muslims don't become terrorists, yet nearly all terrorists are Muslim. Islam must, then, have something to do with this.

Second, the piece presents as ironic that Hammami's twin sister went the other way: became a hippie.

In fact, the wanted terrorist actually uses Facebook to chat with his sister from time to time. As the hippie she is, she can't find it in her heart to condemn her brother. Which seems typical. See, for instance, Johnny Walker Lindh's Dad's ever hippy-ish denials that his son was a terrorist.

Hammami's family has suffered because of what he's doing, but one has to wonder if he could have been deterred if someone like his sister had told him that his beliefs that, say, rape victims ought to be stoned to death are bad. Perhaps not. Perhaps he would have cut off all communications with his sister like he has with his parents, but I think morality requires us to condemn evil -- even if that means alienating the evil doer.

And by evil here I mean evil with a capital E -- murder, killing, treason.

It is entirely possible that al Qaeda exploited the financial bubble in the global economy to trigger the catastrophe on Wall Street and the global economy in 2008. Sophisticated trades involving airline stocks accompanied the 9-11 attacks, and al Qaeda has a financial arm that the U.S. government has been trying to shut down.....

That gives President Obama a very persuasive rationale -- national security -- for immediately enacting financial reform. If legislation continues to prove difficult, the president could issue a temporary freeze on derivatives by executive order. For those who still believe that unfettered markets can do no wrong, the unregulated intersection between banks and betting might be seen as too soft a target for terrorists. Economic security and national security are inextricably linked.

But, all signs point to al Qaeda's money well being fairly shallow these days. In other words, they probably don't have the financial power to actually affect the market. And there is zero chance that they had anything to do with the financial meltdown of 2008.

Further, what the hell?

If Congress won't reform Wall Street then .... President Obama can do it himself through executive order?

Linda R. Monk, the lady writing this, is a lawyer, so presumably her underlying Constitutional theory about Presidential capacity to single-handedly regulate the economy is ..... um, WTF?!?!

Even if we grant it that the post-New Deal Court's interpretation of the Interstate Commerce clause gives the government plenary powers to regulate all things commercial, that power specifically resides with Congress.

Art. I, Sec. 8: The Congress shall have power to .... regulate Commerce .... among the several States.

I'm assuming that she wants to grant Obama this power based on Presidential prerogative in national defense, and defending the nation from "sudden attack".

But even granting that the President might have power to close markets or take extraordinary measures should al Qaeda actually attack them (or, are about to attack them) how is a hypothetical that they could/maybe attack at some unspecified time in the future justify this much power in the hands of one man now?

Because I said so, shut up!

In the days following 9/11 I heard a lot of hype and hoopla about unconstitutional and unwarranted powers being exercised by President Bush. Invariably when specifics were called for, those making the accusation would point to the USA Patriot Act; which, the last time I checked, was an Act passed by Congress. You know, that branch of government given the power to, you know, make law.

The accusations were also ahistorical, as most of what was passed under the Patriot Act were actually much less onerous than the wartime measures of, say, FDR during WWII. Like the allegations of possible [maybe] intercepts of foreign communications with Americans by the Bush Administration vs the actual interception of all foreign communications during WWII under FDR.

And in dealing with those powers specifically granted to the President under the Constitution -- like, how to conduct a war-- Bush was a tyrant for detaining or possibly mistreating illegal combatants. FDR, though, was alright for, um, executing them?

And I actually think that some of the arguments against some provisions in The Patriot Act have some merit to them, but I think those can be reduced to good faith disagreements over Constitutional or historical interpretation.

But there is nothing good faith about Monk's argument. It's a policy preference in search of justification.

I can't even begin to imagine HuffPo printing the same article, but instead of arguing for plenary economic powers in the hands of The One, a case was laid out in favor of George Bush taking over Wall Street.

In fact, where was Ms. Monk when the Bush Administration was pushing for reform at Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae? Would the hypothetical threat of al Qaeda interference in the home mortgage derivatives market have justified the White House single-handedly overturning Congressional legislation encouraging the two semi (but now fully owned) government backed agencies from making risky loans to under qualified buyers?

Seriously, it's not just a bad argument it's insincere to boot.

You want policy X so badly that you are willing to come up with any asanine and convenient legal theory to back up policy X -- but only when the right politician is in power.

Also, I'll note that she adds J.D. to her name. It's a resort to authority. You see, if your argument is lame then you remind people that you have some kind of academic credentials.

Why do I have visions of Tracy Morgan goofing on Star Jones by including some reference to being a lawyer in every sentence.

I do it myself as a joke. It's insider ball, but I originally took on the personae of "Dr. Rusty Shackleford" when I was still in grad school and I was goofing on a buddy who the day he defended his dissertation changed all of his emails to "Dr. Leopold Stotch." Well, goofing on my buddy, and Glenn Reynolds.

The gun-watch pair is manufactured by the German company Armatix GmbH and it sells for about $9,700.

Notably, the combo logically places equal importance, if not more, on the control and protection of the watch as with the gun. To assure your firearm is secured, you now have to also make sure your watch is properly secured. After all, what good is the gun if someone steals your watch? (More ....)

I learned from a number of sources that many of Senator Landrieu’s constituents were having trouble getting through to her office to tell her that they didn’t want her taking millions of federal dollars in exchange for her vote on the healthcare bill. When asked about this, Senator Landrieu’s explanation was that, “Our lines have been jammed for weeks.” I decided to investigate why a representative of the people would be out of touch with her constituents for “weeks” because her phones were broken. In investigating this matter, we decided to visit Senator Landrieu’s district office – the people’s office – to ask the staff if their phones were working.

Mahmoud al-Mabhouh, who bravely engineered the capture of Israeli soldiers in the 1980's, died in Dubai about a week ago. He was found dead in his hotel room with the door barricaded closed, as usual for fear of assassination. al-Mabhouh was founder of Hamas' Izz al-Din Qassam Brigades.

Near the end of the article we find out the Israeli soldiers that were captured were later killed. Hamas is blaming Israel for an assassination by poisoning....even though a Dubia source says that Mahmoud was ill and Hamas' original statement upon his death was that he died of a severe bone ailment.

Hey, once you guys get your story figured out, let us know. Until then, don't mess with Israel or all your Hamas will belong to Juice. You have no chance to survive make your time. Ha Ha Ha....

Al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden has called in a new audiotape for the world to boycott American goods and the U.S. dollar, blaming the United States and other industrialized countries for global warming.

In the tape, aired in part on Al-Jazeera television Friday, bin Laden warns of the dangers of climate change and says that the way to it is to bring "the wheels of the American economy" to a halt.

Iraqi and US forces dealt al Qaeda in Iraq a major blow last week during a raid in Mosul that killed the terror group's top facilitator, who was based out of Syria.

The joint US and Iraqi special operations team killed Abu Khalaf, al Qaeda in Iraq's senior most foreign fighter facilitator, during an operation on Jan. 22. Khalaf was killed after he "attacked a security-team member participating in a warranted operation," a US Forces- Iraq press release stated.

The US military said Khalaf's identity was confirmed using "multiple sources, including fingerprint matches."

Khalaf, whose real name is Sa'ad Uwayyid 'Ubayd Mu'jil al Shammari, was placed on the US Treasury Department's terrorist sanctions list in May 2009 and was identified as al Qaeda in Iraq's top facilitator, who operated from Syria. more

(Brooklyn, New York) James Madison High School has been in the news lately with four female teachers being accused of sexual impropriety.

In December 2009, two babe teachers, Alini Brito, 29, and Cindy Mauro, 33, were allegedly caught naked in a classroom, presumably in full rubby-rubby mode. A week later, another female teacher, Alison Musacchio, 31, was accused of engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a male student.

The most recent occurrence made the news today as a female gym teacher, Lisa Guttilla, 37, was arrested for allegedly feeling up and giving a hickey to a 14-year-old girl. The court complaint alleges that the teacher touched, grabbed, squeezed and kissed the girl's breasts and buttocks.

The fact that James Madison High School is garnering a reputation for libidos gone wild would seem to detract from the fact that the school also has a history of graduating students who became prominent citizens. Examples include Senator Chuck Schumer, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Senator Bernie Sanders and songwriter Carole King.

Peshawar, Jan.28 (ANI): The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) chief Hakimullah Mehsud has succumbed to injuries that he had purportedly sustained in US drone strike earlier this month, unconfirmed reports said.

According to sources, Hakimullah's condition had deteriorated over the few days, and doctors who were treating him at his second father-in-law's house in Mamozai village of Orakzai Agency failed to revive the terrorist commander.

When asked about the report, ISPR spokesperson Major General Athar Abbas said the reports regarding Hakimullah's death were yet to be confirmed

10 men were arrested in Malaysia on suspicion that they were somehow linked to Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab. All of but one of them foreigners. Several of them Nigerians.

Which is pretty much par for the course for countries like Malaysia which are always pointing the finger elsewhere, thus denying that they themselves are knee deep in jihadis.

This is not to deny that the 10 weren't real threats, only that the so-called "moderate" Islamic countries like to divert attention away from their own populations of which a large minority do, in fact, support terrorism. A recent example being in Kenya where the authorities are quick to blame Somali immigrants rather then their own Muslim populations for widespread acts of violence.

If the 10 really do have "links" to the al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula plot to blow up an airplane, then what does this say about the international reach of al Qaeda's regional franchises? Let's not focus so much attention on the possibility of terror coming through Europe that we drop the ball and forget that the Salaafi jihad fan base can also be found in Southeast Asia, and thus planes coming from the East are just as vulnerable as planes coming from the West

Police last week acted quickly to forestall a serious threat to national security when they nabbed 10 terror suspects with links to international terrorist organisations.

Visualize for a moment what would happen if San Francisco hosted a rally on the hot-button topic of abortion. How many people would you expect to show up to support each side?

Well, considering that San Francisco is the city that regularly votes in overwhelming numbers for Nancy Pelosi and Barbara Boxer, two of the strongest abortion advocates in Congress, and that San Francisco is perceived as being among the most liberal cities in the nation, you would likely anticipate the pro-choice side to vastly outnumber the pro-life side at any rally.

You couldn’t be more wrong.

Because when the anti-abortion group Walk for Life staged a march in San Francisco last Saturday, January 23, they turned out an overwhelming and jaw-dropping 40,000 pro-life activists, who were met by a well-advertised counter-protest which managed to draw no more than 80 (that’s eighty, eight-zero) pro-choice advocates. 40,000 vs. 80 is a 500-to-1 pro-life advantage, something that seems inconceivable in the sex-positive liberal stronghold of San Francisco. How did this happen?

However, one need look no farther than Fort Hood killer Nidal Hasan to see that inspiration --- without physical contact in meat space and without any training whatsoever -- is sufficient to cause mass casualties.

Al Qaeda’s media and internet adoption and adaptation has been one of its hallmarks since the 1990s—it was by email that the future suicide pilots of the 9/11 conspiracy first made their way to Afghanistan. Another arrest related to the case of the man accused of receiving al Qaeda training and plotting to detonate a bomb in New York City.

Najibullah Zazi's uncle was arrested while in NYC, apparently in an effort to exert pressure on him to testify against his nephew. He had denied that Zazi could be a terrorist, but he now seems to have changed his tune. Given that the uncle testified at a hearing on evidence in Zazi's case, I suspect that the charge was lying to the Grand Jury. The exact nature of the indictment against him remains sealed.

Now, months after Mr. Zazi’s arrest on bombing-conspiracy charges, his uncle, Naqib Jaji, 38, has been secretly arrested in the case. Mr. Jaji, who in his public remarks had indicated some antipathy toward Mr. Zazi, 24, but also said it was “impossible” that he was a terrorist, was arraigned this month in a sealed federal courtroom in Brooklyn, a sign that he may be cooperating in the case.

Court records and interviews with family members indicate that Mr. Jaji was indicted on a single felony charge, but the precise nature of the charge remains sealed. Indeed, the court docket on the case, 10-CR-00028, lists him as John Doe, a standard practice in cases where a defendant is cooperating....

Mr. Zazi was indicted on Sept 24 on a single charge accusing him of conspiring to set off bombs in the United States. Two other young men with whom he attended Flushing High School in Queens, Adis Medunjanin, 25, and Zarein Ahmedzay, 24, have also been charged in connection with the case.

Prosecutors have said that the three men traveled together to Pakistan in August 2008, and then to Afghanistan, to receive Qaeda training, and returned the following January...

How is this not treason?

Is terrorism the outgrowth of sexual repression? I don't actually think there's much to the theory. If there is something to the theory than I would call it a minor causal driver, not a major one. I think something bigger and more immediate is going on here.

But, the Christmas Day underwear bomber's own words on an Islamic forums does suggest that the kid was sexually frustrated:

But I think that Glazov does make some good points about the unhealthy relationship caused by severe power differentials in Muslim societies. But since these power differences occur in most societies (to one degree or another), yet terrorism is almost exclusively an Islamic phenomenon in the modern world, then something other than sex is going on here.

What that thing is, I think, is a political vision of an ordered society. Political Islam -- Islamism.

But, then again, maybe there is some merit to the argument .....

A source close to the Obama administration said the Yemenis had agreed in principle to the establishment of a Reintegration and Risk Reduction Initiative, which would be internationally funded and monitored.

Aimed at steering detainees back into society, it would be modeled on previous efforts in Northern Ireland, Saudi Arabia and Jordan.

The project has support from within the US state department and is gaining ground among White House advisers, said the source....

God help us all....

Since everyone else is running with their smears, hopes, fears, rampant wild speculation (a lot documented at Patterico's site), etc., I thought I'd throw our what I think is a somewhat reasonable theory as to what James O'Keefe and company were doing in Sen. Landrieu's office.

Looking at the affidavit, I noticed an interesting fact on page 2, section 6:

BASEL requested to be given access to a telephone in the office, and WITNESS 1 allowed him access to the main telephone at the reception desk. WITNESS 1 observed BASEL take the handset of the phone and manipulate it. BASEL also tried to call the phone with a cellular phone in his possession. He stated that he could not get through.

As such, I am postulating that the group was trying to document (with video camera) that Landrieu's office had either disconnected or re-routed the phones to deflect incoming calls - hence, why they couldn't get through. There have been anecdotal reports that Landrieu's office has received complaints that it has been inaccessible by phone, particularly around the time when she was bought off by the Democrats for the now-infamous Louisiana Purchase.

The "listening device" with the guy in the car? Perhaps he was recording the audio in the office without being there so that any denials or spin from the staff regarding what happened would be documented. I don't know. Perhaps he was calling in and trying to reach the phones in the office. Perhaps the two "phone repair guys" intended to try to reconnect the phone and maybe document that it was in fact disconnected or re-routed.

If we're all going to wildly speculate, I think this wild theory makes the most sense to perhaps explain an undercover operation of this kind. The intent was to document that Landrieu's office phones weren't inaccessible because they were busy - they were inaccessible because her office had made the phones inaccessible.

It would also partially explain O'Keefe's cryptic Tweet of "I am a journalist. The truth will set me free" and response of "veritas" the press upon his release last night. Once his side gets told, I think the facts will make him look less pernicious than he does now.

Don't mistake me - I'm not trying to rationalize this. Their lying to get into the office almost certainly ran afoul of the law. However, the trumped up "wiretapping" and "infiltration" and "bugging" nonsense does not appear anywhere in the FBI affidavit, despite hysterical claims (mostly from the left) to the contrary. But if that's all they get, than this was a pretty ballsy operation for a relatively small payoff, IMHO.

Time and a fair legal process will tell.

A man who identified himself as Winston Steward, 51, of Frazier Park, Calif., says he made up the name "Ellie Light" to protect himself from criticism and possible physical attacks, and used fake addresses across the country to get local newspapers to publish his letters.

"I am Winston Steward and have been sending the letters from Ellie Light," he told The Plain Dealer in an e-mail late Tuesday, following a phone interview in which he said the same. "I hope this ends any confusion and sets the record straight."

In the interview he spins quite a tale, even disavowing his wife claiming they are divorced. They're not. But probably soon will be as she says

He said, however, that he and Brooks are no longer married, a point Brooks disputed.

"He's making up all kinds of garbage," she said. "We're not divorced. We're not separated. He just doesn't want anybody to trace him because he's afraid of the right-wing crazies up in Bakersfield."

She said she does not condone his use of a fake name.

"Mr President Obama," she writes, "we are a minority in Egypt. We are treated very badly. You said that the Muslim minority in America are treated very well, so why are we not treated here likewise? We are imprisoned in our own home because Muslim clerics called for the murder of my father, and now the Government has set for us a new prison, we are imprisoned in our own country."

As you can see there are few stories about the intolerance of Coptic Christians in Egypt.

Why is it that the more liberal outlets who would call for tolerance of the very same people who are killing these Christians not call them on it? Ignore it.

Pope Benedict and the Italian Foreign Minister have both spoken out, yet America -- supposedly the leader of the free world, and the premier advocate for human rights -- stays quiet."

"Ellie Light" has written me several emails over the past few days. Unfortunately, all of the older emails got diverted to my spam account. But on a whim I wrote "her" back. Surprisingly, "she" responded.

All of the emails produced different IP addresses, so that method of finding out who the real "Ellie" is is out.

The three prevailing theories as to who "Ellie Light" really is are that:

1) She is Barbara Brooks -- a concerned Obama fan who felt justified in lying about her address to 60+ newspapers
2) "She" is Barbara Brooks ex-husband Winston Steward -- a douchebag trying to pass himself off as Brooks and getting her in some sort of trouble.
3) She is not one person, but a sockpuppet character created by a group of people as part of an organized astroturfing effort to garner support for the Obama agenda

I'm not ruling out any of the above, but the letters I received from "Light" might suggest that #2 may be part of the answer. Here's one of the emails:

I'm not sure if the website at the bottom of your email is really yours, but I'm not interested in mixing it up with people who satirize Islam. I'm not Moslem, but I don't find that sort of activity very helpful.

How is this instructive? It may be nothing, but checking on Winston Steward's Kos diary one finds that he has a certain tender place in his hippie heart for Gaza:

But let me point out a few things here.

First, IP spoofing isn't impossibly hard -- but it isn't the kind of thing most people would be able to do without some major preparation. I know, I know what you computer geeks are going to say -- but what techies fail to grasp is that just because something seems simple enough to you it doesn't mean it's going to be simple for all of us.

The fact that each and every email I got from "Ellie Light" was from a different IP suggests that the person/persons behind the emails was either a) already tech savvy or b) went through a great deal of trouble to cover their tracks.

Which is why it made no sense to me that "Ellie Light" would send me an email from an IP address in Brazil (calling Glenn Greenwald!) and then do me the courtesy of also sending me "her" home phone number in Southern Los Angeles County, CA. That makes no sense.

So, what I want to know is: what kind of business is Steward in? Because unless he's an IT guy or a hacker in his spare time than I just don't see some hippie IP spoofing from all over the world (Saudi Arabia was one of them, ha ha funny that!).

Which suggests organization. And if it's organization we're looking after, then I might have to revisit Dan Riehl's theory.

It means that for two straight years Obama and his zealots have waged a massive propaganda war on the world to convince us all that Obama was inevitable and then, after having been elected, was massively popular. The US is contemplating whether it is legal to assassinate Yemeni American Anwar Awlaki in Yemen. Awlaki was never indicted, charged or convicted of a crime. He is an al Qaeda recruiter, and may have taken a more operational role lately. To the extent that Awlaki is involved in planning terror attacks, taking him out would be a strategic plus. But that's not my point. My question is whether authorization that stands the test of time is even possible anymore.

As a near precedent, Kamal al Darwish, an American citizen, was killed in a predator attack in 2002in Yemen, but the target was al Qaeda leader al Harithy who was sitting next to him. But the concept of precedent and lasting authorization may be a thing of the past.

Obama's Attorney General, Eric Holder, overturned the legal findings of a previous Attorney General. And then Holder instituted legal proceedings against persons working for the federal government who followed those legal guidelines. It was the first time in US history.

If Holder determines that the US has legal justification for a hit on Awlaki, what's to say the next Attorney General won't disagree and haul the commander who executed the order into court, as an individual? That's what happened to some CIA operatives. Its no wonder officials are risk averse and dithering for a month, its a whole new world.

A letter from three Democratic and three Republican Senators urging the AG to stop with the nonsense already and give the 9/11 conspirators a military trial for war crimes.

Dear Mr. Attorney General:

In light of recent events, we write to express our continuing concerns regarding the policies of this Administration with respect to those prisoners now detained at Guantanamo, and also any others who in the future might be charged with acts of international terrorism. We remain particularly concerned about using the U.S. criminal justice system for trying enemy combatants.

Of special importance due to time constraints and location, we strongly urge you to reconsider your decision to try Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and the other alleged conspirators in the September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. The attacks of 9/11 were acts of war, and those who planned and carried out those attacks are war criminals. Today, those who subscribe to the same violent ideology as Khalid Sheikh Mohammed continue to plan and execute attacks against innocent civilians all over the world. It is not in our national interest to provide them further publicity or additional advantage.

We and many others have already expressed serious concerns about whether a trial in civilian court might compromise classified evidence, including revealing sources and methods used by our intelligence community. We are also very concerned that, by bringing Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and other terrorists responsible for 9/11 to the federal courthouse in lower Manhattan, only blocks away from where the Twin Towers once stood, you will be providing them one of the most visible platforms in the world to exalt their past acts and to rally others in support of further terrorism. Such a trial would almost certainly become a recruitment and radicalization tool for those who wish us harm.

The security and other risks inherent in holding the trial in New York City are reflected in Mayor Bloomberg’s recent letter to the administration advising that New York City will be required to spend more than $200 million per year in security measures for the trial. As Mayor Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Kelly know too well, the threat of terrorist acts in New York City is a daily challenge. Holding Khalid Sheikh Mohammed’s trial in that city, and trying other enemy combatants in venues such as Washington, DC and northern Virginia, would unnecessarily increase the burden of facing those challenges, including the increased risk of terrorist attacks.

As you acknowledged in your testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee in November, your decision to prosecute enemy combatants captured on foreign battlefields like Khalid Sheikh Mohammed is without precedent in our nation’s history. The challenges of containing and defeating international terrorism do not give us the proper moment to break that precedent. Given the risks and costs, it is far more logical, cost-effective, and strategically wise to try Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in the military commissions that Congress and the President have now established for that very purpose.

Remember the story about Google censoring it's auto-fill function for "Islam is" but not for "Christianity is" and "Hinduism is" etc? If you'll recall, when one typed in "Christianity is" a number of negative phrases popped up into the auto fill box, including "is bullshit" and "is a lie".

Well, Gharqad emails me to say that Google has apparently stopped censoring the phrase "Islam is". Type in "Islam is" now and you get nearly the same results as typing in "Christianity is", with "Islam is bullshit" being the top recommendation from the auto-fill function.

Way to go Google. Now if you'll just stop helping terrorists by allowing them to use your YouTube and Blogspot services to spread their vile terrorist propaganda, then you and I would be squared away.

Sadly, no. If you want to look for the culprit, look no further than the Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2007. Here's the Wikipedia rundown of the wage increases mandated by law in the Act (passed in 2007)

The act raises the federal minimum wage in 3 increments: to $5.85 per hour 60 days after enactment (2007-07-24), to $6.55 per hour 12 months after that (2008-07-24), and finally to $7.25 per hour 12 months after that (2009-07-24).

But what does all that have to do with increased youth unemployment, which is particularly concentrated in the black community?

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says the preliminary cause of death for 77 of the endangered animals is cold stress. They were found from Jan. 1 through Jan. 23.

Yesterday's bombings carry the imprint of AQI. Three attacks all close together. No claim yet.

I imagine the Islamic State of Iraq which includes both AQI and Ansar al-Islam may claim them. AQI is al-Qaeda proper. Ansar al-Islam formerly Ansar al-Sunnah is a particularly brutal group of former Baathists and al-Qaeda sympathizers.

But remember there is no link between the former regime and al-Qaeda.

Joe is a Democrat in my book. He differs with his former Party on two issues, security and fiscal discipline. But other than those two I always think of Joe as a "liberal". He has more support from the right, true Joe's honest, we like that.

If you think those two issues and the honesty don't matter much, just look at what happened to the last crop of Republicans who let fiscal discipline and honesty slip. Oh I forgot they are gone.

New Jersey - Somerset County investigators In New Jersey seized a cache of weapons including a grenade launcher and hundreds of rounds of ammunition today from the Branchburg motel room of a Virginia man, who also had maps of a U.S. military facility and an out-of-state civilian community.

Authorities have not released details of what the man was planning, but from this report, it appears they may have prevented something catastrophic from taking place

Other entities involved in the case now include the FBI, the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives — both part of the federal Joint Terrorism Task Force, as well as the New Jersey equivalent of that task force, Forrest said.

Paranoid schizophrenic Laith Alani, 41, has been kept in secure hospitals for 19 years after he killed consultant cosmetic surgeons Kenneth Paton and Michael Masser at Pinderfields Hospital, Wakefield.

The Home Office wanted to deport him to Iraq on his release, but an immigration tribunal decided such a move would breach his human rights and put people in the Middle Eastern country at risk.

Alani, who told police he carried out the attack because he had received a "command from Allah", could be set free next year.

How crazy is that? What happens next year when he's freed and given another "command from Allah?"

She had been arrested by Afghan forces, allegedly carrying notes about explosives and a list of landmarks including the Statue of Liberty. During an initial attempt to question her, she grabbed his M4 rifle and opened fire on a roomful of U.S. officials and Afghan intelligence officers. He shot her in the stomach with his 9mm pistol.

Ali Hassan al-Majid, a former Iraqi official known as Chemical Ali, has been executed by hanging, a government spokesman has announced.

Majid, an enforcer in Saddam Hussein's regime and his cousin, had earlier been sentenced to death four times for a range of crimes against humanity.

In January, he was sentenced to death for ordering the gas attack on the Kurdish town of Halabja in 1988.

It is believed that about 5,000 people died in the attack.

Lebanese President Michel Suleiman said terrorism was not suspected in the crash of Flight 409, which was headed for the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.

"Sabotage is ruled out as of now," he said.

The chairman of the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), has used bogus claims that Himalayan glaciers were melting to win grants worth hundreds of thousands of pounds.

Rajendra Pachauri's Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), based in New Delhi, was awarded up to £310,000 by the Carnegie Corporation of New York and the lion's share of a £2.5m EU grant funded by European taxpayers.

An abstract of the grant application published on Carnegie's website said: "The Himalaya glaciers, vital to more than a dozen major rivers that sustain hundreds of millions of people in South Asia, are melting and receding at a dangerous rate.

"One authoritative study reported that most of the glaciers in the region "will vanish within forty years as a result of global warming, resulting in widespread water shortages."

And the same charlatans boldly continue to bilk the world without apparent fear of punishment:

The same release also quoted Dr Syed Hasnain, the glaciologist who, back in 1999, made the now discredited claim that Himalayan glaciers would be gone by 2035.

He now heads Pachauri's glaciology unit at TERI which sought the grants and which is carrying out the glacier research.

Critics point out that Hasnain, of all people, should have known the claim that the Himalayan glaciers could melt by 2035 was bogus because he was meant to be a leading glaciologist specialising in the Himalayas.

Patterico, The Cleavland Plain Dealer and some other intrepid souls have uncovered what appears to be a genuine astroturfing campaign by Obamacrats who are writing boilerplate pro-Obama letters to newspaper editorial sections across the nation.

They use different handles like "Ellie Light," "Mark Spivey," and a host of made up names, made up info about their residences and cut-and-pasted replications of Obama Administration propaganda. Newspapers across the country, of course, found these letters very compelling and printed them without knowledge that they were being used as willing dupes in this political astroturf operation.

Thanks to Google, we're finding out that this was a political spamming operation possible links to Obama groups like Organizing for America and is not "grassroots" operation in any sense.

CNN) -- A new audio tape allegedly from al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden claims responsibility for an attempt to blow up a plane en route to Michigan on Christmas Day and warns the United States of more attacks.

The tape, which aired on the Arabic-language news Web site Al-Jazeera on Sunday, says "the United States will not dream of enjoying safety until we live it in reality in Palestine."

The tape continues: "It is not fair to enjoy that kind of life while our brothers in Gaza live in the worst of miseries."

CNN could not independently confirm the authenticity of the message, but the CIA has in the past confirmed Al-Jazeera reports on tapes from the al Qaeda leader.

This appears to be the original Arabic Audio. I can't say much except it in his voice. And I recognize a few of the Arabic words.

Volker Steffens, head of the Thomas-Morus high-school says that twice girls with headscarves punched blond fellow students without headscarves, pushed them to the ground and kicked them.

About 80% of the 500 students in the school are of foreign origin, representing 41 nations. The principal says that once a headscarf-wearing girl muslima[FTFY...ed] tried to set fire to the hair of another blond student, and that the victims are mostly Polish.

Rita Herrmanns of the Berlin school authority says that[Islamic...ed] fundamentalist tendencies have been taking over in Berlin schools as well in recent years. Increasingly, more girls wear headscarves, more Muslim parents forbid their daughters from participating in class trips, swimming and sex-ed classes.

Principal Volker Steffens who sees the consequences on the front lines says that Islamist tendencies and direct racist attacks by girls are striking.

The UK terror threat level is being raised from "substantial" to "severe", Home Secretary Alan Johnson has said.

The new alert level means a terrorist attack is considered "highly likely". It had stood at substantial since July....

Mr Johnson stressed there was no intelligence to suggest a terrorist attack was imminent.

The decision to raise the threat level was made by the UK's Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre (JTAC).

Given the recent events at Fort Hood and Little Rock, I'd be mindful of home-grown jihadis. Even though the Brits are much better at keeping an eye on domestic terrorists, the numbers of would-be jihadists in the UK are astronomical -- literally thousands and thousands of young men with sympathies toward al Qaeda. And with those kinds of numbers, it's really hard to keep tabs.

Yesterday, the Orlando Sentinel published the second article in the past week disclosing alleged recorded conversations between the current Global Revolution Church officials, Brian Smith, Tom Sanchez and Jeff Parker (aka the “Judas Three”) and the former pastors of the church, Blake and Beverly Lorenz. The Judas Three have submitted affidavits through Tarazi with the Ohio court. The conversations were recorded illegally, as Florida law requires all parties being taped to be notified they are being recorded. A criminal complaint for their illegal wiretapping has already been filed with the Orlando Police Department.

Now here's what the Columbus Dispatch and Orlando Sentinel conveniently forgot to report about their supposed "star witnesses" in the case.

Perhaps the most disturbing element to the crimes committed by Brian Smith, Tom Sanchez and Jeff Parker is that they have illegally embezzled and/or misappropriated funds sent to the church from all over the country by Rifqa's supporters intended for Rifqa’s legal defense fund. The Orlando law firm overseeing her defense fund, Fowler, O'Quinn, Feeney & Sneed, confirmed this week that they have not found any records of EVER receiving any monies from Global Revolution Church sent to the church designated for Rifqa’s legal defense. I have been provided copies of checks sent to the church designated to Rifqa's defense fund, confirming that monies were in fact received, but never forwarded to Fowler, O'Quinn, Feeney & Sneed.

Anyone who sent checks to the Global Revolution Church or transferred money through the church's PayPal account since August for Rifqa's defense is encouraged to contact the Orlando Police Department at 321-235-5300 (complaint desk) to report the funds missing.

The “Judas Three” are also facing federal mail tampering charges. After the trio engineered a church leadership coup and fired the Lorenzs back in September, they intercepted personal mail intended for the Lorenzs sent to the church post office box. Instead of forwarding the mail to the Lorenz’s in accordance with federal law, they sent the mail to CAIR attorney Omar Tarazi, who is representing Rifqa's parents in Ohio. Tarazi, knowing that the mail had been illegally obtained, then attempted to use this purloined correspondence to sabotage negotiations with Rifqa's legal team, making him an accessory after the fact to the Judas Three's felonious mail tampering. Additionally, Tarazi never notified postal authorities of the crime as required of an officer of the court. The mail tampering was attested to in an affidavit submitted to the Ohio court last month by Blake Lorenz (posted at Atlas Shrugs).

Anyone who sent mail to the Lorenzs at the Global Revolution Church address are directed towards the USPS website to file a complaint to assist the pending federal mail tampering investigation.

The Judas Three are also facing a lawsuit from former church officials who claim that the trio held corporate meetings for the church without the knowledge or notification of other corporate officers for which there are no notices, meeting minutes or agendas; conducted corporate business without authorization; and submitted falsified information to the state of Florida in order to wrest control of the corporation from other church officers. Based on this information, the Lorenzs are considering a separate lawsuit that they were illegally fired by the trio.

The selective reporting by the Dispatch’s Meredith “Hijab” Heagney and the Sentinel’s Amy Edwards is no surprise. Their persistent bias in “reporting” on Rifqa’s plight from the beginning of the affair has already been widely discussed here at the Jawa Report and elsewhere (e.g. Atlas Shrugs and JihadWatch). The actions of the Judas Three and their open alliance with CAIR appear to be an effort to cover up possible financial and other crimes. And it seems evident now, considering the settlement earlier this week in Rifqa’s case, that CAIR’s strategy in the wake of that stunning legal defeat is to attack in the media and the courts those who helped Rifqa escape an abusive home and the terror-tied Muslim community in Ohio. That the media, Tarazi and the Judas Three have banded together in a criminal enterprise should be no surprise to anyone as well.

We’ll keep you posted on the pending criminal charges and lawsuits against Brian Smith, Tom Sanchez, Jeff Parker and CAIR attorney Omar Tarazi.

For a long time I've maintained that while Jon Stewart has the smartest writers on Comedy Central, Stephen Colbert has the funniest. I'm sorry, I just don't find The Daily Show that funny.

Stewart's wit would find better use as, say, a blogger. A kind of snarky sarcasm nearly always directed at the political opposition. Nearly.

In this big Stewart rails on Keith Olbermann for nearly seven minutes. A much deserved railing, in my estimation But the surprise comes near the end where after refuting the rather lame accusation made by Olbermann that Scott Brown supports violence against women, he uses Olby's attack against long-time friend of the Jawa Michelle Malkin as evidence that Olby -- if measured by his own standards -- supports violence against women.

Classic.

Hopefully we'll get a comment from Michelle later.

Abdifatah Yusuf Isse, 25, pleaded guilty to supporting terrorists and has been cooperating for months with investigators working on the case of up to 20 Minneapolis men who returned to jihad in Somalia. He was released after agreeing to pay $25,000 if he does not appear in court when required.

NEW DELHI — Indian airports were on high alert Friday after intelligence services received information that Al Qaeda-linked militants were plotting to hijack a plane.

Such an attack would be the first major terror strike against India since 10 militants rampaged through Mumbai for three days in November 2008, killing 166 people.

Aviation spokeswoman Moushumi Chakravarty said the airports were placed on alert Thursday after the government received warnings from intelligence agencies.

A report in The Indian Express newspaper, which Chakravarty confirmed, said intelligence officials had uncovered a plot by militants linked to Al Qaeda and the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba group to hijack an Air India or Indian Airlines flight destined for a neighboring South Asian country.

OT: Caught out in the boonies of New York State during the last game of the World Series, I was able to listen to the game on The Big Talker. The sweet, sweet tears of the Philly announcers, as it dawned on them that the Yankees would triumph, were delicious.

I mean, really, isn't that the argument here? An informant goes to a mosque to see if some alleged wrongdoers are actually up to wrongdoing. In the process he discovers that yes they are up to no good.

We're supposed to be upset about this because, um, it turned out that the alleged criminals were actual criminals? Or because the criminals happened to meet in a mosque? WTF?

In related news the CAIR [Columbian-American Ironic Relations] raised concerns over civil-rights violations today when it was discovered that the DEA was allegedly sending undercover agents into the Columbian-American community. CAIR also denies that there is any relationship between Columbia and cocaine trafficking.

UPDATE by Rusty: Related news from the UK where some Muslim police officers are complaining against crackdowns on terrorists. Which is ironic given that they both a) make the case that Islam doesn't inspire terrorism; and b) make the simultaneous claim that cracking down on terrorists is an affront to Islam.

Also, right-wing extremism more dangerous than terrorists who, um, just happen to all be Muslims. I'm no fan of the BNP, but come on: right-wingers were behind the transit bombings?

If you read the whole story the gist is that Muslim police officers might be reluctant to enforce anti-terror laws. Which to me is less an indication of a disloyal fifth column within the police force than it is an indication that these people are stupid.

When Japanese-Americans were wrongly suspected of disloyalty --- and treated, I might add, far worse than anything feigned or imagined by Muslims in the West --- the overwhelming response was to prove their loyalty by volunteering for the Army, where they acted heroicly.

A community who's strategy for rebuffing accusations of disloyalty is by being disloyal? That's just dumb.

To make matters worse, Chicago’s brief makes common cause with precedent that has been properly labeled by civil rights leaders as “among the most misdirected in the history of the Court”

My argument is more common sense. Sure gangs cause trouble, guns are a part of that trouble. These laws were intended to "stop gang violence" and keep guns, "out of the hands of criminals". Er uh hows that working out?

I was in a hospital one day...waiting (what else do you do there).... in a large metro area close to me. The news came on where some people had walked up to a lady at a stop light, drug her out of her car and took it. Oh and they shot her in the head for no reason. They had the car, why kill her?

My response was that criminals would not do this if about half the time as soon as they walked up to the car the driver blew their brains right back on their buddies. It might take a few times, but eventually they will learn...

The reaction of the folks there was WTF did this guy come from. Well I come from where you know better than to try and carjack someone cause out in Bumfuct you might just get shot.

Their reaction is quite understandable. They deal and see gun violence all the time and it is horrific. But they tend to blame the tool rather than the person wielding it and their hate of the tool has led them to disarm and make themselves easy targets.

True, being armed does not mean you won't become a victim. The chance is still high that a criminal will use the element of surprise.

But disarming yourself leaves you no chance at all, and the bad guys with the freedom to select their victim with no fear of immediate and lethal consequences to themselves.

A teenage girl in Saudi Arabia has been sentenced to 90 lashes and two months in prison for taking a cell phone to school, the U.K.'s Daily Mail reported Wednesday.

The 13-year-old's punishment, harsher than that given to some robbers and looters, requires her to be flogged in front of her classmates, the Daily Mail quoted Saudi newspaper Al-Watan.

Honestly, it's been so long since I've reported a blogspot account for abuse that I've forgotten how.

I laughed me arse off reading this:

Yesterday's disappointing election results show deep discontent with the pace of change. I know the OFA community and the President share that frustration.

We also saw what we knew to be true all along: Any change worth making is hard and will be fought at every turn. While it doesn't take away the sting of this loss, there is no road to real change without setbacks along the way.

We could have simply sought to do things that were easy, that wouldn't stir up controversy. But changes that aren't controversial rarely solve the problem.

Our country continues to face the same fundamental challenges it faced yesterday. Our health care system still needs reform. Wall Street still needs to be held accountable. We still need to create good jobs. And we still need to continue building a clean energy economy.

The President isn't walking away from these challenges. In fact, his determination and resolve are only stronger. We must match that commitment with our own.

But it won't be easy. Real change never is. For that reason, I am grateful you're part of this fight with us.

I believe with all my heart and soul that the freedom in the Netherlands is threatened. That what our heritage is, what generations could only dream about, that this freedom is no longer a given, no longer self-evident.

I devote my life to the defence of our freedom. I know what the risks are and I pay a price for it every day. I do not complain about it; it is my own decision. I see that as my duty and it is why I am standing here.

I know that the words I use are sometimes harsh, but they are never rash. It is not my intention to spare the ideology of conquest and destruction, but I am not any more out to offend people. I have nothing against Muslims. I have a problem with Islam and the Islamization of our country because Islam is at odds with freedom.

Future generations will wonder to themselves how we in 2010, in this place, in this room, earned our most precious attainment. Whether there is freedom in this debate for both parties and thus also for the critics of Islam, or that only one side of the discussion may be heard in the Netherlands? Whether freedom of speech in the Netherlands applies to everyone or only to a few? The answer to this is at once the answer to the question whether freedom still has a home in this country.

Freedom was never the property of a small group, but was always the heritage of us all. We are all blessed by it.

Lady Justice wears a blindfold, but she has splendid hearing. I hope that she hears the following sentences, loud and clear:

It is not only a right, but also the duty of free people to speak against every ideology that threatens freedom. Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States was right: The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.

I hope that the freedom of speech shall triumph in this trial.

In conclusion, Mister Speaker, judges of the court.

This trial is obviously about the freedom of speech. But this trial is also about the process of establishing the truth. Are the statements that I have made and the comparisons that I have taken, as cited in the summons, true? If something is true then can it still be punishable? This is why I urge you to not only submit to my request to hear witnesses and experts on the subject of freedom of speech. But I ask you explicitly to honour my request to hear witnesses and experts on the subject of Islam. I refer not only to Mister Jansen and Mister Admiraal, but also to the witness/experts from Israel, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Without these witnesses, I cannot defend myself properly and, in my opinion, this would not be an fair trial.

The prosecution of Geert Wilders is a two fold attack on freedom. First, it violates free speech. Second, if violates freedom of religion. The second point being nearly universally missed since the first point usually suffices as a defense. But think about it: freedom of religion is also about the ability to criticize religions which you don't agree with. The broad religious freedoms enjoyed in the United States have led not only to greater religiosity, but also to a wider diversity of religious creeds. The history of the creation of sects is the history of one group of adherents disagreeing with another set of adherents.

To single out Islam as the sole religion which cannot be criticized is to give it state sanctioned protection not enjoyed by other religious communities. It is, in fact, just what many of the critics say it is: creeping sharia.

Because in the Netherlands, just like in Saudi Arabia, it is perfectly legal to criticize Christianity. But it is against the law to criticize Islam!

Again, I think many so-called examples of creeping sharia that are sent to me are pretty way off base. In fact, some of the email I get is from the paranoid fringe who think there is a super-secret Islamic conspiracy. A bunch of rubbish, all of it. There are much simpler explanations for the underlying motives of groups of people than conspiracy. Like try stupidity. Or maybe fear. As in: the Dutch really are afraid of offending Muslims who have some adherents who will kill you. Offending Christians? Not so much.

In any event I support Geert Wilders. And when I say that it doesn't mean I support everything he says or does, only that I support his right to freedom. Which I do. Unequivocally.

Nothing about this story gives me faith in German airport authorities. If I have the story straight, then they found explosives residue on the man's laptop. But the guy grabbed the laptop and ran into the terminal where they .... wait for it ... couldn't find him.

In the name of Allah, the Most Kind, the Most Merciful.

All praise be to Allah, and may peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, Muhammad ibn Abdullah, and upon his family, his Companions, and those who follow his footsteps until the day of Judgment.

To proceed:

Every once in a while an important event takes place, the significance of which is not immediately apparent. It is only after a period of time passes that the enormity of the event is fully recognised. Such an event took place exactly one year ago today: on January 20th 2009.

On that day an announcement was posted to the jihadist forums, informing the Believers of the merger of two branches of the al-Qaida organisation: the branches in Yemen and Saudi Arabia.

This new organisation would be known as Al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, and would be lead by Amir Abu Basir – Nasir al-Wahayshi (may Allah protect him), along with his deputy Sheikh Abu Sufyan – Said al-Shihri (may Allah protect him)

This merger was in accordance with the command of Allah, the Exalted, who said:

"...and fight the polytheists collectively, as they fight you collectively" (Al-Tawbah: 36)

And it was in accordance with the authentic hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) who said:

"A Believer to another Believer is like a building whose different parts strengthen each other"

Indeed, one of the main objectives of Al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula is to carry out the last request of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said:

"Expel the polytheists from the Arabian Peninsula"

There was a certain amount of enthusiasm on the jihadist forums, people recognised the leadership potential of Amir Abu Basir (may Allah protect him), and looked forward to him slowly rebuilding the capabilities of the Mujahideen of the Arabian Peninsula. Outside of jihadist circles however, the announcement barely raised an eyebrow.

Very few people could have predicted that in just twelve short months Amir Abu Basir (may Allah protect him) would have made Al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula a household name, an inspiration to Muslims the world over, and a nightmare from which the Zionist-Crusaders and the Arab Apostates cannot seem to awaken from.

In twelve short months Al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula have achieved the following:

1.) Targeted the heads of Disbelief even while they hid behind their Palace walls, in the operation which targeted Muhammad bin Nayif. Every one of the Idol Kings of the Arabs will now sleep less soundly: knowing that the Lions of Tawhid are coming for them soon!

2.) Sent the Western world into a spin, forcing the infidels to spend many billions of dollars upgrading their airport security, following the operation of Umar al-Farouq (may Allah free him)

3.) Revealed the treachery of the Yemeni army, their disregard for the blood and honor of the Muslims, their complicity in the crimes of the Zionist-Crusaders; and therefore the obligation of fighting them.

4.) Clearly identified their long and short-term objectives, and proved the religious legitimacy of their acts with stirring speeches from Sheikh Ibrahim al-Rubaish, Commander Muhammad ibn Abdur-Rahman al-Rashid and Sheikh Abu Zubair Adil al-Abab (may Allah protect them all)

5.) Set a wonderful example for the Ummah to follow, with the martyrdom of Abul Khair - Abdullah Hassan al-Assiri, Abu Tamim al-Azdi - Yusuf al-Shehri, and Abu Omar al-Najdi - Raed al-Harbi (may Allah have Mercy on them all)

In conclusion, we congratulate all Mujahideen, especially those in the Arabian Peninsula, on their many victories during 2009, and look forward to even more from them in 2010, with the permission of Allah.

Truly they have warmed the hearts of the Believers who had begun to despair of the situation in the Arabian Peninsula ever being improved.

Our Lord! Protect the leaders of Al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula!

Our Lord! Grant their Mujahideen one of the two best things: Victory or Martyrdom!

Our Lord! Grant victory to the Mujahideen in the Arabian Peninsula, in Iraq, in Afghanistan and Pakistan, in Somalia, in the Caucasus, in the Islamic Maghreb, and all around the world!

Thanks to Carl for this, but he's wrong in concluding that the decision means that detainees are not subject to the Geneva Conventions. What the court is saying, I think, is that the interpretation of treaties by foreign courts cannot be used as a basis for detainees to sue in US courts. In other words, just because some court at the Hague says that such-and-such a treaty means that habeus corpus rights are granted to unlawful combatants, such a court ruling does not establish precedent in the US:

The opinion said all of al-Bihani's arguments "rely heavily on the premise that the war powers granted by the (congressional Authorization for Use of Military Force) and other statutes are limited by the international laws of war. This premise is mistaken. There is no indication in the AUMF, the Detainee Treatment Act of 2005 ... or the MCA of 2006 or 2009, that Congress intended the international laws of war to act as extra-textual limiting principles for the president's war powers under the AUMF. The international laws of war as a whole have not been implemented domestically by Congress and are therefore not a source of authority for U.S. courts. ...

"Therefore, putting aside that we find al-Bihani's reading of international law to be unpersuasive, we have no occasion here to quibble over the intricate application of vague treaty provisions and amorphous customary principles," the opinion added. "The sources we look to for resolution of al-Bihani's case are the sources courts always look to: The text of relevant statutes and controlling domestic case law. Under those sources, al-Bihani is lawfully detained."

The Himalayan glaciers won't be gone by 2035? Well I'll be.....color me surprised

(AP) A U.N. warning that Himalayan glaciers were melting faster than any other place in the world and may be gone by 2035 was not backed up by science, U.N. climate experts said Wednesday - an admission that could energize climate change critics.

In a 2007 report, the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change said the Himalayan glaciers are very likely to disappear within three decades if the present melting rate continues. But a statement from the panel now says there is not enough scientific evidence to back up those claim.

The warning in the report "refers to poorly substantiated estimates of rate of recession and date for the disappearance of Himalayan glaciers," the IPCC said. "In drafting the paragraph in question, the clear and well-established standards of evidence, required by the IPCC procedures, were not applied properly."

Rifqa Bary's dependency case was settled today in an Ohio juvenile court by Rifqa and her parents, and she will remain in state custody until her 18th birthday. In return for her parents dropping their opposition to dependency, Rifqa agreed to plead to the "unruly" charge, which will not count as a criminal charge and jeopardize her upcoming immigration claim.

What prompted this remarkable turn-around? It was clear to CAIR that they were going to lose in trial. CAIR was trying to force Rifqa to make some kind of admission that her statements about the terror-tied Noor Islamic Cultural Center her parents attended weren't true, but when Rifqa's attorneys said no and that they intended to take it to trial where all of Noor and CAIR's secrets would be revealed, CAIR capitulated.

All is not over yet, however.

First, the court recently revealed her foster home location to the CAIR attorney. Rifqa's life is in grave danger. Her attorneys are working feverishly to have the state move her to a new foster care placement and taking immediate measures to ensure her safety.

Secondly, CAIR's new strategy is to target the Ohio pastor, Brian Williams, who assisted in her Muslim apostate underground railroad escape. They are pressuring the Franklin County prosecutor, Ron O'Brien, to have him indicted for kidnapping and other charges related to Rifqa's escape. We will have additional information on his case in coming days.

Thirdly, Rifqa is currently facing severe restrictions on her communications. Her computer and phone have been confiscated, and she is not allowed to visit with any of her friends. There is not another child in state custody in Ohio that has had similar restrictions imposed. Rifqa's attorneys are working to have those shariah-compliant restrictions removed.

This turn of events is important because dependency was exactly the legal goal Rifqa's supporters had been pushing for in both Florida and then Ohio. We've achieved that goal. The legal case is over, but the affair is not at an end. There is more fighting left to do. We will keep you informed.

Who could have guessed that a group with a name that includes the words "al Qaeda" in it were, ahem, terrorists? That's rocket science right there!

The murder of Paul Johnson by the Saudi branch of al Qaeda was one of the reasons I got into the blogging game. The video taped murder by beheading of Johnson and others was so horrible and so gruesome that I could no longer keep quiet.

Are the people at the State Department really this clueless that it takes 6 years to officially take sanctions against one of the most widely known terrorist organizations on the planet? And it's been, what, four months since they made the connection between AQAP front-man Anwar al-Awlaki and Fort Hood murderer Nidal Hasan? Way to go there State. Way to go.

The Secretary of State has designated al-Qa’ida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) under Section 219 of the Immigration and Nationality Act, as amended (INA). The Secretary also designated AQAP and its two top leaders Nasir al-Wahishi and Said al-Shihri under E.O. 13224. Secretary Clinton took these actions in consultation with the Attorney General and the Secretary of the Treasury. These actions prohibit provision of material support and arms to AQAP and also include immigration related restrictions that will help stem the flow of finances to AQAP and give the Department of Justice the tools it needs to prosecute AQAP members.

AQAP is a Yemen-based terrorist organization that has claimed responsibility for numerous terrorist acts against Saudi, Korean, Yemeni, and U.S. targets since its inception in January 2009. Such instances include a March 2009 suicide bombing against South Korean tourists in Yemen, the August 2009 attempt to assassinate Saudi Prince Muhammad bin Nayif, and the December 25, 2009 failed attack on a Northwest Airlines flight from Amsterdam to Detroit, Michigan.

Nasir Al-Wahishi proclaimed himself as the leader of al-Qa’ida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) in January 2009. The press release in which al-Wahishi announced AQAP’s re-emergence also noted that the group’s Saudi militants had pledged allegiance to al-Wahishi as their new leader. Since then, Al-Wahishi has provided significant support for AQAP terrorist operations and has worked with AQAP operatives to facilitate attacks. As AQAP’s leader, al-Wahishi is responsible for approving targets, recruiting new members, allocating resources to training and attack planning, and tasking others to carry out attacks.

Said Ali al-Shihri was publicly identified in January 2009 as the deputy leader of al-Qa’ida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP). As deputy of AQAP, al-Shihri helps carry out terrorist acts by generating targets, recruiting new members, assisting with training and attack planning, and tasking others in the preparation of attacks.

These designations represent just one phase of the United States Government’s response to the threat posed by AQAP and its senior leaders. In addition, the U.S. has requested that similar actions be taken against AQAP, al-Shihri, and al-Wahishi at the United Nations 1267 Committee. If successful, this will require all UN member states to implement an asset freeze, travel ban, and arms embargo against these entities. These designations will occur less than one month after the Security Council adopted resolution 1904, which renewed and strengthened the 1267 regime, and which created major new improvements to the way the UN imposes sanctions on al-Qa’ida and Taliban terrorists. The actions taken today against AQAP support the U.S. effort to degrade the capabilities of this group. We are determined to eliminate AQAP’s ability to execute violent attacks and to disrupt, dismantle, and defeat their networks.

Designations of foreign terrorist organizations play a critical role in our fight against terrorism and are an effective means of curtailing support for terrorist activities and pressuring groups to get out of the terrorism business. The consequences of these designations include a prohibition against the provision of material support or resources to FTOs; the freezing of all property and interests in property of the organization that are in the United States, or come within the United States or the control of U.S. persons; and provide special immigration related options to law enforcement.

Smart money bet that Yemen's announcement of the (accidental) capture of Saed al Shehri would be bogus, as was the three deaths of al Qaeda leader Qasim al Reimi who is quite alive.

The erroneous "exclusive" report announcing Saed al Shihri's capture was not some typo by the Yemen Observer. They pulled the first story that correctly identified the person arrested as Yousef al Shehri, deleted it not corrected it, and replaced it with an article announcing Saed was captured.

Now, after the news is spinning all over the web, they issued a correction. The Yemen Observer is a propaganda front for the Yemeni government and a component of its efforts to delude the world into believing there has been any progress in the battle to diminish the threat from al Qaeda.

So far Yemen's "All Out War" on al Qaeda yielded zero among the top leadership but lots and lots of propaganda to the contrary. Its been like this all along.

Update: Update: Yousef al Shehri was killed in October 2009 trying to cross into Saudi Arabia, dressed in women's clothes. Who the heck had the traffic accident and is custody is anyone's guess at this point, but odds are high that its not anyone of significance or even associated with al Qaeda. Does the Yemeni government just pull a name out of a hat when it comes up with this stuff?

Yemen Observer: YEMEN - The last issue of the Yemen Observer, the al-Qaeda militant that was captured is not Saeed al-Shehri who is the deputy Amir of al-Qaeda AKAP but another militant known as Yusuf al-Shehri. As a result of this error the Yemen Observer apologizes to its readers for this error.

This story is that A car carrying members of al-Qaeda was turned over when attempted to bypass a newly established sudden checkpoint by the Yemeni security units today and resulted in the capture of Yusuf al-Shehri, security source told the Yemen Observer.

The car was going in a high speed and was carrying al-Shehri and other al-Qaeda militants and flipped over in the district of Sylan in Shabwah province near the borders of Marib province. All the militants in the car were captured.

Austin, TX) The Texas Supreme Court has declined to hear the case brought against the Chairman of Americans Against Hate (AAH) Joe Kaufman by seven Dallas-area Muslim organizations. The groups had claimed that Kaufman had libeled them in an article he had written in September 2007 for FrontPage Magazine.

The lawsuit had previously been dismissed by the Texas Court of Appeals, which ruled that the case had no merit to continue.

Kaufman had not mentioned any of the seven groups in the article in question. The article was concerning the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), an organization Kaufman had exposed as being connected to the financing of terrorism oversea

Meanwhile, a report has surfaced that 26 patients died last week in a Cuban hospital due to negligence. It appears that the government was less than expedient about disclosing information to the media on the patients' deaths.

I'm not sure when the Blotter started going downhill, but this stupid report seems pretty close to rock bottom. They've been reporting this "exclusive" story about how some scopes used by the military have Bible verses referenced on them. And then they manufacture "concern" over the references since the DOD prohibits proselytizing and since such versus might fuel rampant conspiracy theories in the Middle East over US intentions in the region.

The way this kind of journalism works: Report a "concern" vocalized by no one. Take this "concern" to this or that government agency and ask for feedback -- usually in ways such as, "Aren't you concerned that....". Said government agency says they're "concerned" that you are "concerned" and will look into it. Report that the government agency is "concerned" since they say they will look into it.

In this case, the Marine Corps told The Blotter that they'll look into it and will sit down and discuss this with the manufacturer. They then headline the post [emph. mine]:

Emergency management talks with Al Qaeda have so far failed to produce an agreement. The unrest began last Tuesday when al Qaeda announced that the number of virgins a suicide bomber would receive after his death will be cut by 25% next January from 72 to only 60.

In an interview, al Shabab spokesman Ali Rage said the Somali terror group intended to provide manpower to Yemen's al Qaeda group, and that Yemen's al Qaeda had provided generous support to al Shabab in the past.

Closer coordination between Somalia's al Shabab and Yemen's AQAP heightens risk of a coordinated attack on the NATO anti-piracy patrols in the Gulf of Aden. Currently AQAP is asking for any information on the US vessels in the Gulf including the names and home states of individual American sailors, blueprints, suppliers and operating procedures.

In a missive released yesterday, AQAP said, “Today, the duty of our Muslim nation is to declare Jihad against the infidels and their apostate cooperatives; not only on land but on sea and in the air too. The Crusader warships are present in the Gulf of Aden, in the Arabian Sea and in the Red Sea, and the American surveillance jets occupy the sphere over the Arabian Peninsula.." This echoes an earlier statement from AQ Central calling for naval jihad.

(RTTNews) - An Israel Air Force (IAF) strike on the northern Gaza Strip is reported to have killed three Palestinian militants and critically injured another, as they were attempting to fire rockets into Israel.

Israeli aircraft struck the militants of the Islamic Jihad outfit, around 7 P.M. (0500 GMT) Sunday night when they were spotted while setting up rocket-launchers east of the city of Dir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip.

One person killed was Awad Nasir, a 29-year-old resident of the city who was a senior commander of the Al-Quds Brigade, the armed wing of Islamic Jihad. His aides Hassan al-Qatarawi, 22, of Bureij refugee camp and Hudhaifa al-Hams, 23, of Nuseirat refugee camp, were also killed in the strike.

But US commanders insisted their forces' focus was on humanitarian work and last night agreed to prioritise aid arrivals to the airport over military flights, after the intervention of the UN.

The overnight swoop in Eastleigh, where many Somalis live, saw 328 people suspected to be sympathisers of the Somali militia rebel group al Shabaab arrested.

Most of the arrests were at the Shariff Centre, 2nd Avenue on 7th street in the sprawling estate.

They were found in possession of identity cards that police believed to be fake.

Last week's demonstration to demand the release of radical Jamaican Muslim cleric Sheikh Abdullah al-Faisal turned violent as rowdy youths engaged police in running battles for six hours.

One person was killed in the chaos and several police officers injured.

The government blamed the violence on "foreign youths with extremist ideas," and assured Muslims that their rights will be protected.

I dunno, He wasn't specific enough about what part of the remote desert he wanted em dropped off in.

The sights are used by U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and in the training of Iraqi and Afghan soldiers. The maker of the sights, Trijicon, has a $660 million multi-year contract to provide up to 800,000 sights to the Marine Corps, and additional contracts to provide sights to the U.S. Army.

U.S. military rules specifically prohibit the proselytizing of any religion in Iraq or Afghanistan and were drawn up in order to prevent criticism that the U.S. was embarked on a religious "Crusade" in its war against al Qaeda and Iraqi insurgents[...]

Spokespeople for the U.S. Army and the Marine Corps both said their services were unaware of the biblical markings. They said officials were discussing what steps, if any, to take in the wake of the ABCNews.com report. It is not known how many Trijicon sights are currently in use by the U.S. military.

A major Taliban attack began on Kabul Jan. 18. The fighting is being reported by both American and Taliban sources. According to one American source, reports of an imminent attack began circulating Jan. 17. Heavy fighting is being reported at multiple locations, apparently focused around the Serena Hotel. The hotel, which is frequented by foreign journalists and government officials, has been attacked in the past. According to the Taliban, 20 suicide bombers are taking part in the attack. They claim the Presidential Palace, Ministries of Justice, Finance, Mines and Industry are among the targets. There are reports of casualties, but numbers and locations are unclear.

I'm also receiving some reports from contacts there on other platforms. The Taliban has posted their usual claims.

"Every family in our village has lost a relative, but no one is weeping," said Mushtaq Ahmed, a gaunt farmer with a black goatee who heads the village peace committee, a euphemism for the anti-Taliban militias. "The bomb destroyed our village, but it has not taken away our courage. Once our 40 days of mourning are finished, we will fight and keep fighting as long as a single man is left in the village."

Yesterday, security authorities arrested three al-Qeada militants in al-Jawf who were in disguise wearing military uniforms. (??!!) Six other al-Qaeda terrorists were killed on Friday by an air strike. (ed- no its not clear yet. Reports today indicate only two may have been killed and Qasim al Reimi escaped.) The killed militants were identified as Qassim al-Rimi, Amar Obad al-Wayly, Saleh al-Tais, Aidh Jaber al-Shabwani, Abdullah Hadi al-Tais, and Abu Ayman al-Mesri (Egyptian). Two more terrorists escaped after their two cars were completely destroyed; security forces are currently hunting them down.

Following Yemen's announcement that al Qaeda head honcho Qasim al Reimi was killed in an air strike this week along with five others, news is starting to leak out that ooops, maybe not.

Al Reimi had been reported killed in two earlier air strikes but this time the announcement was based on an identification, officials said. Security sources now say that perhaps it was a "hasty" announcement. Tribal sources say another of the six dead men was recently spotted eating lunch with his family, and al Reimi was wounded in the leg and escaped.

We can call it the al Nabi syndrome, reported dead but still alive. Old habits die hard. At best, now we're back to "maybe al Reimi is dead," and "maybe the Yemeni government told the truth about al Qaeda for once." Wait and see mode.

Strike that, I only have this thought that's been troubling me: Is it not the greatest of hypocrisy to say that we can kill at will men like Hambali so long as said killing is done with a Predator drone; yet should we give him the gift of life and not kill him then we must treat him as innocent until proven guilty, provide him with a free lawyer, and notify him that no, he really doesn't have to talk?

It seems to me that the one thing I can say -- without reservation -- that I support under President Obama is the increase in Predator attacks on suspected terrorists. So, we can kill suspected terrorists and that is okay, but we can't hurt them a little?

Also, we can give someone in the CIA or DOD the go ahead to make the decision whether or not a suspect deserves life or death -- which is effectively what you are doing when you give the go ahead for a Predator strike, the suspect being immediately executed from the air? But we cannot trust a military tribunal, with many more procedural safeguards, to do the same?

It's not just hypocrisy, it's the height of moral stupidity!

Two intelligence officials in the area and a local administrative official also confirmed the attack and the toll.

The officials said that five US drones flew over at low altitude above the area and two of the drones descended further and fired four missiles at the militants' compound, destroying it completely.

“We are hearing that three of them were foreign fighters but we do not know about their identity and nationalities,” said a senior intelligence official based in the troubled region. Pleading anonymity, the official said to have intercepted militants’ conversation in which they mourned the loss of three ‘guests’, a term used for foreign fighters, particularly those associated with al-Qaeda.

That's the second poll in a row showing Brown up in MA. Yesterday's Suffolk University/7News poll had Brown up by 4 -- within the margin of error. PJM's poll has Brown up well outside the margin of error.

I know the first instinct will be to dismiss PJM's poll as an outlier because it was sponsored by a right-leaning organization. But consider these two facts:

a) PJM's poll had a larger sample size than Suffolk's, meaning the margin of error is less.

b) Democrats outnumbered Republicans in the poll by 16%.

Three exit questions: 1) Is there life after death? 2) Is there a system of punishments and rewards after death -- ie, heaven and hell? 3) Is it out of the realm of possibilities for a just God to punish Ted Kennedy by letting him watch the Brown/Coakley drama unfold?

Terry said his office responded to a call about 7:30 this morning of armed gunmen in the vicinity of the Pantex Plant and located two men who were hunting geese on Farm-to-Market Road 2373.

Terry said deputies located the men, who he said were off-duty plant employees who had pulled off the road about two miles south of Pantex on FM 2373. The men were questioned and officers determined they were not doing anything illegal.

The U.S. government is advising American sports fans travelling to Vancouver for the 2010 Winter Olympics to watch out for al-Qaeda and other extremists, terrorists[FTFY...ed] especially on transit and in restaurants, churches and other areas outside official venues.

"Al-Qaeda's demonstrated capability to carry out sophisticated attacks against sizable structures - such as ships, large office buildings, embassies and hotels - makes it one of the greatest potential threats to the Olympics," the U.S. State Department said in a fact sheet on the Games posted on its website.

No specific credible threats have been identified, the U.S. government said. However, Americans planning to attend Olympic events or participate in large-scale public gatherings during the Winter Games should use caution and be alert to their surroundings, the advisory said.

Americans are advised to be especially alert when outside Olympic venues. "As security increases in and around Olympic venues, terrorists could shift their focus to more unprotected Olympic venues, open spaces, hotels, railway and other transportation systems, churches, restaurants and other sites not associated with the Olympics."[...]

A spokesman for the U.S. Consulate General in Vancouver said the U.S. State Department advisory was posted within the past six weeks, but could not immediately confirm the date.[Sounds familiar...ed]

CHICAGO — Two Chicago men were indicted Thursday on charges they planned a violent attack on a Danish newspaper and helped lay the groundwork for the November 2008 terrorist rampage killed 166 people in the Indian city of Mumbai.

Businessman Tahawwur Rana and his associate David Coleman Headley already had been charged with assistance to terrorism but the 12-count indictment expanded allegations against Rana to include the Mumbai attacks. Both are in federal custody in Chicago.

Retired Pakistani military officer Abdur Rehman Hashim Syed and reputed terrorist leader Ilyas Kashmiri — described as having been in regular contact with al-Qaida's No. 3, Sheikh Mustafa Abu al-Yazid — also were charged in the new indictment. Abdur Rehman and Kashmiri are accused of being involved with the plans to attack the Danish newspaper Jyllands Posten, which in 2005 printed 12 cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad that sparked outrage in the Muslim world.

Officials say the defendants were linked to the terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba, translated as Army of the Pure, which has long been involved in violent conflict with India over the disputed Kashmir territory. The Indian government has blamed the group for the Mumbai attacks and the U.S. government has designated it as a foreign terrorist organization.

The FBI has released a number of digitally enhanced what-would-they-look-like-now pictures of their most wanted terrorists. The images are supposed to give us an idea what the terrorists might look like after aging or altering their appearances in some other way. For instance, all known images of Osama bin Laden show him wearing some sort of head covering. One altered photo shows his hair. Q: how do we know he's not bald?

Some of the pictures are freaky-deaky. Here are two of the images of Osama bin Laden. I know the Rewards for Justice page offers you the $25 million only for information leading to his capture or conviction, but if you see the guy below do us all a favor and .... just kill him. You'll be saving the taxpayers billions and I personally promise to raise the same amount of cash for you.

The most freaky-deaky photo alteration is that of al Qaeda operative and Canadian citizen Faker "Bat Boy" Boussora. Also known as Abu Yusif al-Tunisi, his unaltered photo really does look like the Weekly World News' "Bat Boy". Check it out.

As freaky as he looks in real life, check out the altered pic of what he might look like today.

Bob McCarty has an article over at PJM about the use of Computer Voice Stress Analysis (CVSA) in terror prevention. He implies that had the technology been used, then the underwear bomb plot of Christmas day might have been averted.

I asked him how that would work since my understanding of CVSA was that it was a post hoc analyizing tool that might be used to replace polygraphing. As you know, polygraphing tries to detect lies after the fact. So how could this be used to prevent terrorism?

But Bob explains that the technology is passive but nearly foolproof. In other words, you could use it to monitor the voices of potential airline passengers who are trying to hide something. Those passengers detected by the technology as lying to screeners could then be diverted to secondary screening.

With that in mind go check out his article about CVSA here. And if it's true that professional polygraphers are keeping the technology out only to protect their jobs, then heads should roll.
