Small Plane Crashes into Building (UPDATED Bumped)

A small single-engine plane crashed into a building in Northwest Austin Thursday morning, sparking a fire.

The crash happened near MoPac and Highway 183.

Smoke could be scene pouring from the Echelon building on traffic cameras and in photographs send in by KVUE viewers and reporters.

KVUE’s Noelle Newton reports most of the windows are blown out. People were evacuated. There is so far no word on how many people have been injured.

Hat Tip: Brad.

Update: News is reporting FBI field offices are in the building. This report is false. The IRS, CSICIU are some of the offices in the Echelon Building No 1 Unfortunately 2 people are unaccounted for. I pray they are found safe.

A Piper Cherokee 140 Cirrus sr22 was the plane that hit the building, unfortunately a driver of a Lexus was hit before the plane hit the building. The Lexus is unrecognizable at this time. Driver is safe, just clipped his car.

Update 2: DHS is saying this is a stand alone accident and not terrorism related. Wow, that was quick to put out that report. A eye witness is reporting he saw the plane circle over a Babies R Us store nearby, level off and fly directly into the building.

Update 3: Another eyewitness was interviewed and he commented when training to fly that plane one slows down if in trouble. He said the plane hit the building full throttle.

Update 4: Joseph Andrew Stack was the pilot (it appears but not confirmed)

Update 5 By Howie: FOXNEWS:

An NTSB official told Fox News that they are investigating this as an intentional act, and said it appears the pilot set his own house on fire and then got in his plane and flew it into the building. An NTSB spokesman, however, told FoxNews.com that "we can't confirm any of that."

Authorities said they have identified the pilot, but are not yet releasing the name.

Update at Jammie Wearing Fool:

The suicide pilot in Austin has been identified as Joseph Stack.

Authorities said they have identified the pilot as Joseph Andrew Stack.

Here is what one Joe Stack had to say. Consider this his suicide note. read the whole thing. Here's an excerpt.

As government agencies go, the FAA is often justifiably referred to as a tombstone agency, though they are hardly alone. The recent presidential puppet GW Bush and his cronies in their eight years certainly reinforced for all of us that this criticism rings equally true for all of the government. Nothing changes unless there is a body count (unless it is in the interest of the wealthy sows at the government trough). In a government full of hypocrites from top to bottom, life is as cheap as their lies and their self-serving laws.
Despite Stack's statement indicating he's one of theirs, a neo-commie, the Kos kids have already determined he was a Tea Bagger.
The communist creed: From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.

The capitalist creed: From each according to his gullibility, to each according to his greed.

Booosh hating, commie loving, big brother conspiracy theory sounds more like the Kos Kidz than a Tea Party activist to me.

UPDATE by Rusty: This was his website where he left his "manifesto/suicide note". It is, in fact, registered to one "Joe Stack" of San Marcos, Tx.

And, to be honest, after reading his online drivel he just sounds like a nut with some tax problems.

Update 6 by Abu Fatima: Live news conference on now (12:26) here There is a suicide note but investigators haven't confirmed it belonged to Stack. It's confirmed, see note here( h/t Kaffir_Kanuck)

Update 7 by Abu Fatima: Stack is dead.

Update 8 By Howie: Hot Air:

My lefty pal Michael Roston scolds me for trying to place political blame vis-a-vis a nut whose political beliefs seem uncategorizable. I actually couldn’t agree more: I’m not calling the guy a leftist, merely stressing that he’s not some dogmatic right-winger either. But it ain’t my side that’s spent the better part of a year trying to frame tea partiers as some sort of racist neo-militia movement. Remember the fiasco over the Kentucky census worker murdered by conservatives — who wasn’t murdered by conservatives? I sure do. Roston, to his credit, urged caution at the time about jumping to any conclusions in that case, but a lot of his friends on the left weren’t so cautious. And given the early reaction at dKos and Democratic Underground, they’re ready to make the same mistake again.
Well put AllahP.
