THE Muslim wedding of a seven-year-old boy and a five-year-old girl has been raided by police.

Cops arrested the Muslim cleric conducting the sick ceremony and the children’s parents in Pakistan’s largest city.

The cleric had not yet begun the ceremony of Mohammad Waseem, seven, and his bride Nishain Karachi, five – which was attended by 100 guests.

The Cindy Sheehan for Congress campaign headquarters was attacked yesterday. It was unoccupied at the time. A computer was stolen.

Supporters of Sheehan's opponent for California's 8th Congressional District, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, could be involved. As a skeptic, however, I wouldn't be surprised if Sheehan supporters were the culprits. In any event, police are investigating the incident.

We've all heard the interview in which Barack Obama described the radical Warren Court as "not that radical," and explained that the Founding Fathers' failure to incorporate "redistribution of wealth" into the Constitution meant that the document is "fundamentally flawed."

Whatever else he may do, I can guarantee you that Obama will, if given the opportunity, pack our federal courts at the district, appellate and national level with judges picked in consultation with groups like the ACLU, National Lawyers' Guild, Brady Campaign, Planned Parenthood and People for the American Way. (If you don't know, you can trust me when I tell you that these people are not your friends.)

Over the past few years, we've all read many a news story about this or that ruling by "Federal District Judge so-and-so" that just makes you go "WTF???" Nine times out of ten, you will notice that the seriously "WTF?" rulings are being handed down by judges appointed by Democrat Presidents--the kinds of judges that believe the Constitution somehow serves as an ever-flowing fountain of new and ever-expanding rights for criminals, illegal immigrants and enemies shooting at our soldiers on foreign battlefields, but ever-narrowing rights for law-abiding American citizens living right here on American soil.

Anyone who reads this blog much should know how much of a John McCain fan I'm not. I may very well be bitching like hell at half (or maybe more) of the stuff John McCain tries to do if he's elected President.

That said, there is every reason to believe that Barack Obama and his fringe left-wing associates will, if given the opportunity, BRING THE CRAZY to our Federal Courts and our case law at a level we have never before seen.

Property rights, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, contract rights, immigration law, election law, affirmative action...it's all fair game for the kind of radical left-wing activist judges we can expect from Barack Obama.

If there was no other reason to oppose Obama (and there are many), that one reason should be enough.

"If the Cameroon government does not respond to our requests in three days' time, we will start killing them one by one," Dari said. He said the attack was carried out jointly with another group called the Bakassi Freedom Fighters.

Just two days after Pakistan summoned the US ambassador to Pakistan to protest US missile strikes inside Pakistan, Predator drones fire two missiles killing up to 22 terrorists. A mid level al Qaida commander, Abdur Rehman Abu Atasha, from Iraq was also killed in the missile strikes.

So I guess Pakistan got its reply from the US today regarding missile strikes targeting terrorist scum inside Pakistani territory.

Intelligence officials in Pakistan say two separate suspected U.S. missile strikes Friday killed at least 22 people in northwestern Pakistan, near the Afghan border.

In the first attack, officials say at least 15 people died when two missiles struck a house near Mir Ali village in North Waziristan. The strike appears to have targeted a mid-level al-Qaida militant, Abdur Rehman Abu Atasha, believed to be Iraqi. Intelligence officials and local militants say he was killed, but that has not been confirmed.

In the second strike, two more missiles were fired into a house in South Waziristan, near Wana, from what is believed to be a U.S. unmanned (drone) aircraft. Local officials say at least seven people were killed.

Bash has a few choice words for Obama and Friends, as he "articulates" his case for McCain / Palin.
For the most part, I agree with the substance... and as always, I find his style highly amusing.

It seems that Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner is closely tied to the leadership of ACORN.

So our Secretary of State shares a campaign advisor with ACORN, takes direction from ACORN's voter registration arm, and refuses to verify over 200,000 mismatched registrations while claiming there is no voter fraud going on in Ohio...and that attention to such frivolous issues distracts her from doing her job.

I dunno never seen this blog before. But hey they're a blog, we're a blog. So be it.

As I noted yesterday, mish-mashing polls together is very problematic from a mathematical point-of-view. It's not 100% clear what the results of any poll means by itself. When you take two polls and mash them together, it's even less clear what you've got.

The graph above is a graph of the results of polls from FOUR separate and independent organizations, taken at different points in time, with each organization using a given methodology multiple times.

Each of these four polls shows McCain enjoying a late rally of support, and Barack Obama suffering a drop.

These are not the only polls out there, of course. There are other polls out there that may show different behavior. The Rasmussen numbers are not included above, but they follow a similar pattern.

BOTTOM LINE : Don't believe the hype, folks. This is still a race.

Remember a while back, when the press and the lefties claimed that because some Jihadi moron on a forum thought that al-Qaeda would/should attack us to troll the American voter into electing McCain? Remember that al-Qaeda supports McCain1!111!!!1!! crap? I said at the time that this was incorrect and not al-Qeada's strategy. I was right... ... again.

Mr Schulz's family and friends are in my thoughts and prayers.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) _ The remains of a North Dakota civilian taken hostage and killed in Iraq nearly three years ago have been recovered along with remains believed to be those of his fiancee, an interpreter for the military, his sister and FBI officials said.

Ronald Schulz's family plans a burial Saturday in Jamestown, a day after his remains are expected to arrive in his hometown.

Schulz's remains and those of the Kurdish woman to whom he was engaged were found by the U.S. military in a grave in September and were turned over to the government, FBI agent E.K. Wilson said Wednesday. He would not say what led the military to the remains.

The Islamic Army in Iraq claimed in December 2005 that it had killed the 40-year-old Schulz, of Eagle River, Alaska. He was working as an electrician when he was kidnapped.

I can only hope the bastages that did this are dead or soon will be.

McCain has only $80 million to spend, while Obama's burning through $600 mil as fast as he can, and he doesn't really need to spend a dime given the wall-to-wall media adoration. And tonight Chris Matthews' doctors announced that his leg tingle has metastasized leaving his entire body like a vibrating cellphone whose ringtone is locked on "I'm In Love, I'm In Love, I'm In Love, I'm In Love, I'm In Love With A Wonderful Guy."

And yet an old cranky broke loser is within two or three points of the King of the World. Strange.

I watched the Obama infomercial on YouTube. Viewed objectively for its merit as effective propaganda, I rate it an EPIC FAIL.

Going into this, the American people don't have many doubts that Obama is going to spread goodies around and be more willing to spend money than John McCain.

Thus, the people who vote based on maximum goodies are already voting for Obama.

Obama's primary task at this point in this election is to somehow become a "safe" choice for middle class suburban white voters who hate Bush, and don't particularly like McCain, but are concerned about Obama's inexperience in foreign affaris and what his socialist tendencies might do to the economy.

Bottom line : if Obama is seen as a SAFE choice, he wins this election. If Obama is not seen as a safe choice, he LOSES. It really is that simple.

The 30-minute infomercial did nothing at all to persuade those voters.

There should have been at least 5 minutes of old white military guys talking about how smart Barack Obama is, what an incredible military officer he would have been and how they'd follow him into battle in a heartbeat.

There should have been at least another 5 minutes of old white foreign policy experts (and Colin Powell) talking about how smart Barack Obama is, how informed he is on foreign affairs, and how much he reminds them of the best qualities of the presidents they served.

There should have been at least some time with old white Wall Street guys and Nobel prize-winning economists talking about how AMAZING Obama's economic program would be for the American economy.

Why the emphasis on old WHITE guys? Because suburban middle class white people tend to trust old white guys. If Obama is OK with the old white guys, he must be a safe choice.

This would all be complete bullshit, of course, but that's not the point. If Obama wanted to put together an infomercial that would change minds and change votes, that would've been it.

Instead, he blew a bunch of cash for nothing.

Navy Secretary Donald C. Winter has announced that the newest Zumwalt class destroyer will be named the Michael Monsoor for a SEAL who died in Iraq when he threw himself on a grenade to save two teammates.

Winter made the announcement last night at a Navy SEAL Warrior Fund benefit gala in New York City, according to a Department of Defense news release.

Monsoor was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor earlier this year for his actions in Ramadi, Iraq in September 2006.

Al-Shabaab, alQaeda's front in Somalia, was likely behind the bombings.

Al-Shabaab is the youth arm of the Islamic terrorist movement. February of this year al-Shabaab were designated a Foreign Terrorist Organization under Section 219 of the Immigration and Nationality Act and as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist under Section 1(b) of Executive Order 13224.

Apparently Shabaab terrorists didn't like the condition of the "peacetalks" held Tuesday.

Three car bombs attack UN, diplomatic and government institutions in the breakaway Somaliland region[...]

Analysts believe the timing of the bombings was no accident. Regional heads of state, including Somalia's president, Abdullahi Yusuf, were meeting yesterday in Nairobi to discuss the country's future. Peace efforts had received a boost over the weekend when Yusuf's government and the opposition Alliance for the Re-liberation of Somalia (ARS) signed a deal in Djibouti agreeing to a ceasefire, and a phased withdrawal of Ethiopian troops.

But a breakaway wing of the ARS, as well as the Shabaab, rejected the deal. They refuse to enter negotiations before the complete withdrawal of the Ethiopian forces that invaded Somalia in December 2006 to oust an Islamist authority from power.

Previously during peace negotiations the Shabaab has launched large attacks, mainly in Mogadishu, to demonstrate that they have control on the ground.

Negotiating with terrorists works so well - not.

This drift started on a personal level with the fall of former Senator John Edwards. It got stronger during the Democratic National Convention when I counted the substantive mentions of poverty on one hand and a whole bunch of bad canned partisan lines against Senator John McCain.

Some faith was lifted after Senator Hillary Clinton’s grace during a difficult hour. But that faith was dashed when I saw that someone had raided the Caligula set and planted the old columns at Invesco Field.

The final straw came the other week when Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher (a.k.a Joe the Plumber) asked a question about higher taxes for small businesses. Instead of celebrating his aspirations, they were mocked. He wasn’t “a real plumber,” and “They’re fighting for Joe the Hedge-Fund manager,” and the patronizing, “I’ve got nothing but love for Joe the Plumber.”[...]

The party I believed in wouldn’t look down on working people under any circumstance. And Joe the Plumber is right. This is the absolutely worst time to raise taxes on anyone: the rich, the middle class, the poor, small businesses and corporations.

Burton used the old cliche "I didn't leave the Democratic Party, they left me". I have heard a lot of people saying that recently.

(Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) A leading Islamic cleric is calling for a fatwa against the practice of yoga by Muslims.

Mr Harussani Zakaria, a controversial cleric from the northern Perak state, said the government-backed National Fatwa Council would soon release a decree, or 'fatwa', which would decide if Muslims were allowed to practise yoga.

'If it involves any faith or religious elements it is definitely not permissible but if it is just a form of exercise that is all right,' Mr Harussani said.

'Muslims cannot practice yoga in its original form because it involves another religion,' he said in response to a call to ban Muslims from engaging in yoga.

A rolling average of the polls posted at RealClearPolitics shows a similar pattern:

I'm not sure anyone knows what an average of two completely different polls means, much less 30-odd of them, having very different methodologies and sample sizes, all mashed together. I suspect purist statisticians shake their heads at the way we, the great unwashed, commingle completely disparate data together willy-nilly. Whatever the true numbers may be, I think it's fair to say that McCain's numbers appear, on average, to be rising and Obama's numbers appear, on average, to be dropping. The graphs above may not prove anything other than this: the numbers are NOT STATIC. Y'all should not believe the media hype. This election is not a "done deal."

As anti-Stevens as I am, it seems to me that voting for Ted Stevens probably remains the right thing for Alaska conservatives to do. If Stevens is re-elected, he'll have to step down, and will be replaced by someone appointed by Gov. Palin. She can be expected to appoint an ally, which will serve to strengthen Palin's position within the party power structure. As a Palinista myself, this is something I'm all on board for.

If, on the other hand, Stevens' Democrat opponent is elected, that's just one more seat for the Democrat Party, putting them one step closer to a filibuster-proof majority. That's not small potatoes, folks.

Thus, despite my disdain for the corrupt (and embarassing) Ted Stevens and the embarassing (and corrupt) Don Young, and despite my deep respect for the very smart guys at RedState, I have to disagree with their call for Alaska's conservatives to stand down and let the Democrats take over by default.

No, the Republicans don't deserve to retain power, but we don't deserve to be ruled by leftist Democrats.

Obama hearts Syria?

Obama says that the United States should strike at al Qaeda in Pakistan without the consent of the Pakistani government.

So, he favors attacking al Qaeda in Pakistan, but presumably not in Syria, even though al Qaeda thrives in Syria not because of lawlessness (as in Pakistan) but because the group enjoys the hospitality of the Syrian government.

Maybe if the Pakistani government began openly collaborating with al Qaeda, Obama would withdraw his support for military strikes.

I previously reported on the fact that the NRCC has dropped its support for Michele Bachmann.

Earlier today I found out that the NRCC has pulled all its support for Marilyn Musgrave.

Marilyn Musgrave is the most conservative member of the U.S. House, and one of the most conservative members overall. She received a rating of 94 from the Club for Growth in 2007, and consistently rates 90-100% ratings from Gun Owners of America. She's one of the last people any conservative should want to see lose her race, and the NRCC is pulling its funding:

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - In a room full of television industry executives, no one seemed inclined to defend MSNBC on Monday for what some were calling its lopsidedly liberal coverage of the presidential election.

The cable news channel is "completely out of control," said writer-producer Linda Bloodworth-Thomason, a self-proclaimed liberal Democrat.

She added that she would prefer a lunch date with right-leaning Fox News star Sean Hannity over left-leaning MSNBC star Keith Olbermann.

Olbermann was criticized by many who attended Monday's luncheon sponsored by the Caucus for Producers, Writers & Directors at the Beverly Hills Hotel. The event was dubbed "Hollywood, America and Election '08."

Bloodworth-Thomason and others seemed especially critical of the way MSNBC -- and other media -- has attacked Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin while demeaning her supporters.

"We should stop the demonizing," she said, adding that Democrats have been worse than Republicans as far as personal attacks on candidates are concerned. "It diminishes us," she said of her fellow Democrats.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Two white supremacists allegedly plotted to go on a national killing spree, shooting and decapitating black people and ultimately targeting Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, federal authorities said Monday.

In all, the two men whom officials describe as neo-Nazi skinheads planned to kill 88 people - 14 by beheading, according to documents unsealed in U.S. District Court in Jackson, Tenn. The numbers 88 and 14 are symbolic in the white supremacist community.

The spree, which initially targeted an unidentified predominantly African-American school, was to end with the two men driving toward Obama, "shooting at him from the windows," the court documents show[....]

Sheriffs' deputies in Crockett County, Tenn., arrested the two suspects - Daniel Cowart, 20, of Bells, Tenn., and Paul Schlesselman 18, of Helena-West Helena, Ark. - Oct. 22 on unspecified charges. "Once we arrested the defendants and suspected they had violated federal law, we immediately contacted federal authorities," said Crockett County Sheriff Troy Klyce.

I also heard on local news they planned on wearing white tuxedo's and hats. They were willing to die to carry this out.

I don't care for Obama but this is just damn sick.

Also killed were some foreign militants who had attended the funeral of a younger brother of Mehsud, Yahya Mehsud, an intelligence official said.

Police later identified the slain man as the brother of Mehsud, who leads the country’s umbrella Taliban organisation, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Shinwari said.

The reason for the murder was not immediately clear, he said. Residents said Yahya, 35, was not involved in Taliban activities and people opposed to Mehsud may be involved in the killing of his brother.

UPDATE: There are conflicting reports floating around the intrawebz, so I guess we need to wait for confirmation of Mullah Omar's death. Yahoo News is reporting that a low level taliban commander with links to Haqqani was killed along with foreign terrorists who were attending the funeral of Baitullah Mehsud's younger brother who was killed yesterday.

UPDATE: There seems to be some confusion about who was killed in the latest Predator strike. Hotair is reporting that the Mohammad Omar that was killed is not Mohammad Omar, aka Mullah Omar, leader of the taliban.

Armed assailants attacked a man and gouged out his eyes in front of his family during a gruesome assault in southern Afghanistan, officials said Sunday.

Sayed Ghulam, 52, was recovering in a hospital in the country’s largest southern city, Kandahar.

Ghulam said three armed men knocked on his door in the Sangin district of Helmand province late Thursday. When he opened the door, they punched him in the face, put the barrel of a Kalashnikov rifle in his mouth and gouged out his eyes with a knife in the presence of his wife and seven children.

"I was crying, along with my children and wife, who was screaming for help, but they didn't listen," Ghulam told The Associated Press from his hospital room in Kandahar.

As far as I've been able to determine, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) and the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) exist for the purposes of propping up the GOP establishment's power structure as least as much as they exist for the promotion of any principles one might find in the GOP platform.

I haven't donated to either group for years.

The NRCC's decision to stand behind the corrupt and free-spending Rep. Don Young is a prime illustration of the fact that I made the right decision.

Their decision to not support the rock-solid conservative Rep. Michele Bachmann is just one more.

Three Palestinians were killed at dawn on Saturday when a tunnel collapsed under Egypt's border with the Gaza Strip, an Egyptian security official said.

Police found the bodies after hearing a loud explosion near the Salaheddin Gate which leads from the Egyptian side of the border into the impoverished Palestinian coastal territory.

Several Palestinians have died in similar incidents in recent months in the tunnels, which are used to smuggle arms, fuel and other supplies into Gaza.

"She would call the opposing campaign and pretend she was on their campaign to get information," Mr. Costine said last night. "We had to remove her because of the tactics she displayed. After that we had nothing to do with her."

About a month earlier, he said, Ms. Todd sent an e-mail to the Ron Paul group saying her tires were slashed and that campaign paraphernalia had been stolen from her car because she supported Mr. Paul[...]

On her MySpace profile, where her screen name is "Italian Pajamas," Ms. Todd gives her occupation as "Being a badass." Next to her picture, she references the title of a song by the group Panic at the Disco: "Lying is the most fun a girl can have without taking her cloths (sic) off," but adds to it "but its (sic) better if you do."

Florida TV reporter Barbara West asked hard hitting questions of Joe Biden in an interview broadcast Wednesday. Friday, the Obama campaign called West and complained that her questions were "unprofessional and combative".

Hmm, she better be prepared to have her backgound checked as Joe the Plumber's was.

"State and local officials are investigating if state and law-enforcement computer systems were illegally accessed when they were tapped for personal information about "Joe the Plumber."

Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher became part of the national political lexicon Oct. 15 when Republican presidential candidate John McCain mentioned him frequently during his final debate with Democrat Barack Obama.

The 34-year-old from the Toledo suburb of Holland is held out by McCain as an example of an American who would be harmed by Obama's tax proposals.

Public records requested by The Dispatch disclose that information on Wurzelbacher's driver's license or his sport-utility vehicle was pulled from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles database three times shortly after the debate.

Information on Wurzelbacher was accessed by accounts assigned to the office of Ohio Attorney General Nancy H. Rogers, the Cuyahoga County Child Support Enforcement Agency and the Toledo Police Department.

The Tulsa Republican made the comment in an interview published Thursday by the Alva Review-Courier.

Inhofe says he was mayor of Tulsa at the time and the Association of Community Organizers for Reform Now, known as ACORN, was mad at him over a housing issue involving Cuban refugees.

OK, here's the thing: PUMAs and conservatives (though apparently not Republicans in general) have a common enemy. The Obama Machine screwed Hillary and her supporters over in the primary, and is set to screw the nation over in the next four years.

Let's be honest. Obama will, quite frankly, be a boon for the GOP if he's elected. If even HALF of Obama's policies are put into place, we can reasonably expect that the nation's "Joe the Plumber" and "Sarah the Gunner" types will recoil in horror and throw the incumbents out of office in 2010--thus creating a "windfall" for the GOP that, quite franly, they don't even come close to deserving. Sad but true.

Thus, if you are a big believer in the Democrat Party uber alles, there is every reason for you, as a party activist, to oppose Obama's candidacy on purely tactical and strategic grounds.

If you subscribe to that way of thinking, my question is not directed to you.

My question is directed to the PUMAs, if any, who oppose Barack Obama because they believe, in their hearts, that Barack Obama has amply demostrated, by his tactics and philosophy, that he is simply WRONG FOR AMERICA.

To those PUMAs, my question is this: what is it that keeps us apart? What is it, in other words, that you find unacceptable or undesirable about the "conservative" philosophy? Is it the "limited government" thing? The pro-life thing? The gun thing? Taxes? Spending? Borders and immigration?

It occurs to me that we may have "irreconcilable differences." It also occurs to me that we may not.

The American Islamic Congress (AIC) today launched a letter-writing campaign calling for the immediate release of a California State University student arrested in Tehran after interviewing women’s rights advocates.

Esha Momeni is a native of Los Angeles who was visiting Tehran last week to conduct academic research on Iran's women's rights movement, filming video interviews with local activists.

Security officers arrested her during a traffic stop, seized her video tapes, and have held her in solitary confinement ever since in Tehran’s notorious Evin Prison. When her family tried to visit her they were sent home.

Locals said that two spy drones buzzing overhead targeted seminary Sirajul Uloom in Dandi Derpakhel on the outskirts of Miramshah at about 2.30am. They said that three loud explosions were heard as planes were flying over the area.

In general, I've got plenty of sympathy for "disgruntled Republicans"--hell, I AM one. I firmly believe that frank, open and vigorous debate over REAL issues and the track records and philosophies of our candidates makes for a stronger conservative movement--and even a stronger Republican Party.

That said, there's a huge difference between acknowledging an elephant (or, perhaps, a RINO) in the room and inventing an elephant (or, perhaps, a moose) that isn't really there. There's also a big difference between having a serious OFF-SEASON debate about whether to keep the coach around next season (which is appropriate and necessary, and which I do a lot) and walking off the field when your team 4th and inches in the Super Bowl.

Kathleen Parker, Peggy Noonan, Christopher Buckley and others who have essentially jumped ship in protest over the fact that we have a midwestern working-class mother for a VP candidate have a whole lot more in common with the latter group. They've walked off the field at the worst possible moment with no reasonable and rational motivation they are able to articulate.

Whatever vitriol they may send her way, you may have noticed that Palin's Republican (and former Republican) critics don't really have anything solid or substantive to attack her on. They don't have a problem with her resume or her successful track record of leading people, running big organizations, cleaning up corruption or going toe-to-toe with the oil companies and the Government of Canada. No, there's nothing but success to be found there, and that's no small potatoes. The attacks seem to me to be all about Palin's style, about her Christian, working-class point-of-view and about her getting tripped up on a few "gotcha" questions from a very hostile media.

I don't care who you are, how much you know or how smart you think you are. Give me an afternoon of your time and a video camera, and I guarantee I can come up with at least a minute or two of footage proving you're a stone cold moron. And yes, that includes you, Charlie Gibson.

I have a message for any of y'all who cringe at the idea that the champagne, pate de fois gras and polo might just might be replaced with beer, mooseburgers and target shooting at the next company picnic: there's a whole lot more of us out here in the woods than there are of y'all down at the country club. We are the backbone of the conservative movement and the Republican Party, and you'd do well to keep that in mind. You seem to have forgotten that over the last few years, and you may have noticed that things haven't gone so well for you come election time. To paraphrase the immortal Tyler Durden:

We walk your precincts. We man your phone banks. We stuff your envelopes. We get out your vote. We guard you while you sleep. Do not fuck with us.

As an aside, I note that a whole lot of the self-appointed "elites" have done little, if anything, to merit that title. If you consider yourself a member of the "elite" (even in private) do this experiment: find a list of the top 50 performers in your business or career field. Is your name on the list? If not, that might tell you something.

No, I don't live in Manhattan, or even in the northeast. That's by choice. Most of us who live in "flyover land" could move east or west (or north) if we were so inclined. We just aren't. I used to live inside the beltway. I lived in Chicago for a while. I've been to Manhattan many times, and I must confess I've always had a great time there. That said, with all due respect to my friends who live out there, y'all can keep it. It's just not for me.

The vast majority of us didn't get degrees from Harvard or Yale, or any of the other schools that the chattering class apparently considers important. If you did, good for you. You probably received a decent education in exchange for the vast sums your parents spent, but you certainly didn't receive a monopoly on knowledge. A whole lot of us got our education at public schools, and yet, we probably learned our biology and math and history from the same overpriced textbooks you did. Our library probably had the same books on the shelves that yours did. The folks who taught our classes were probably about as famous as the ones who did yours--which is to say, not at all famous. The newspapers and history books are full of the names of men and women who can't boast of ivy league diplomas: Bill Gates, Michael Dell, Sam Walton and Ronald Reagan, to name just a few.

None of this is to say that performance isn't important or that we should be against success. Quite the contrary. Performance and a proven track record are critical. America was, after all, built on what Thomas Jefferson referred to as "The Natural Aristocracy of Talent." In other words, talent, actual performance and a track record of success trump most of the things that the self-appointed elites seem to consider important, such as who your parents were, where you grew up, where you went to school, whether you have a sufficiently "sophisticated" view of "spiritual matters," what hobbies you enjoy or what kind of accent you have.

When the Republican "elites" go after Sarah Palin because she has a working-class, midwestern accent, or she lives in the woods, or she likes guns, or she has a big family, or actually believes in God, or isn't quite certain what the "Bush Doctrine" is, they're hitting awfully close to home in my case. I've looked into the "Bush Doctrine," and I'm still not sure what it is.

Most of my family is in the construction business. When the media goes after Joe the Plumber because he may be a little behind on his bills or may not have all his government licenses up-to-date, they're talking about a good piece of my family there. We're not "elite," and don't claim to be. We're just regular people. Sometimes we drop our "g's" when we talk, and we use words like "y'all" and "donchaknow" and "youbetcha". We go to church, we like our guns and we believe unborn babies are babies, too. And, yeah, sometimes we may get a little behind on our bills. And we like Sarah Palin and Joe the Plumber--a lot.

Bottom line: we don't begrudge you for the way you choose to live your life out there in Yankeeland. We're willing to accept that y'all do things a little different than we do. All we ask is that you extend us the same courtesy.

And I, for one, would ask that you consider celebrating, rather than cringing, at the fact that the one person who's keeping John McCain in this race at all, and electrifying the conservative grassroots for the first time in far too long, is a down-to-earth, God-fearing, gun-toting, baby-loving, working-class mother from the heartland of America.

BAGHDAD, Iraq -- Iraqi Security Forces captured 66 people believed to be connected to al Qaeda in Iraq terror cells, the U.S. military said Thursday.

The suspects included 45 men from al Qaeda in Iraq and 21 suspected terrorists from an umbrella group of al Qaeda in Iraq known as The Islamic State of Iraq, the statement said.

The suspects are believed to be part of terror cells responsible for bombings, torturing of civilians, conducting attacks and warning insurgents about upcoming Iraqi and U.S. military operations, the military said.

Wow, double whammy! al-Qaeda in Iraq and Islamic State of Iraq. Hats off to the Iraqi Security Forces!

Pittsburgh police spokeswoman Diane Richard tells Channel 4 Action News that the victim was robbed at knifepoint on Wednesday night outside of a Citizens Bank near Liberty Avenue and Pearl Street just before 9 p.m.

Richard said the robber took $60 from the woman, then became angry when he saw a McCain bumper sticker on the victim's car. The attacker then punched and kicked the victim, before using the knife to scratch the letter "B" into her face, Richard said.

Five law lords ruled the human rights of the Lebanese woman, EM, and her 12-year-old son, AF, who cannot be named for legal reasons, would be "flagrantly violated" and "nullified" if forced to return to Lebanon.

Under Sharia law, her "violent" ex-husband would automatically be granted full custody rights.

Republicans, furious about negative campaign phone calls made by Democrats last week in Billings, did everything but label the tactic un-American.

Turns out, they could have.

The calls were made from Romania, according to phone records submitted this week to the state commissioner of political practices.

Jack Sands, a GOP candidate in Senate District 27 and the target of the Oct. 12 calls, filed the complaint alleging that the people making the calls didn't identify who they were calling for. Senate District 27 includes parts of Billings and Yellowstone County. State law prohibits anonymous election material.

"They're obviously spending thousands of dollars to defeat me," Sands said. "You'd think the least they could have done was to provide some jobs in Montana instead of exporting jobs to Romania. Maybe they couldn't find Montanans with the stomach to make the calls."

WEST PALM BEACH — Dogs, strippers and aliens have helped save the Veterans Day parade.

Parade fund-raiser Dennis Koehler said Wednesday that the Nov. 9 march on Clematis Street, which had been on the verge of cancellation, has been rescued by contributions from Lois Pope, widow of tabloid king Generoso Pope, the Palm Beach Kennel Club, the Cheetah strip clubs and other donors.

A $2,000 pledge from Pope put organizers over the top.

"That will bump us over the $12,000 mark and the parade will go on," Koehler said.

The parade is organized by a coalition of Palm Beach County veterans groups. It was imperiled because, in the tough economy, contributions fell $12,000 short of what was needed for insurance, law enforcement and sanitation.

I've been on this planet nearly thirty years and I've followed every presidential election since I can remember. I supported George H. W. Bush as a child because he was what the country needed to close out the Cold War. I supported and actually campaigned for Bill Clinton in the sixth grade on the premise that George H. W. Bush raised taxes when he campaigned on the premise he wouldn't. I stood in an auditorium of my peers and spoke out for Bob Dole based on the fact that Bill Clinton was not what was morally right for the country (myself and a friend were booed out of that auditorium). I supported George W. Bush because Al Gore was not what the country needed in a time of great economic uncertainty that was apparent at the end of the Clinton administration. I then supported George W. Bush again for a myriad of issues to include John Kerry's flip-flopping on the issues. I have now voted (absentee in the great state of Florida) for John McCain because, let's face it folks, Barack Obama scares the life out of me.

I am talking about a state Senator from Illinois who has not even completed a full term in the U.S. Senate (his first real decision of substance to others ever made would affect this country so greatly and it would come from the White House). I'm talking about a man who went to a church whose pastors have antagonized Conservatives while damning our nation. I'm talking about a U.S. Senator who associates with a known, unrepentant domestic terrorist. William Ayers killed no one, the left states, but if I set of a bomb in your car while it was parked in your garage at your home would you be okay with it since I didn't kill anyone? I think not. Barrack Obama said he would take federal funding and then didn't; will he threaten sanctions one day and not impose those sanctions a next? Will Barack Obama tell the world we're here to help and then decide maybe our response should be limited? Hell, I looked up the definition of scare and there was a Barack Obama advertisement on the page (dictionary.com if you want to go look for yourself). I understand that these points might be considered right wing talking points and while I might still be a Conservative I'm certainly not going to throw written bombshells at Barack Obama without some sincere justification (from a personal level of course).

I ventured over to Barack Obama's web site this evening. It was quite easy to pull up Mr. Obama's stance on three key issues to me; defense, economy, and taxes. I am a stickler for etiquette and procedure and upon pulling up the defense page I instantly noticed the phrase, "soldiers, seamen, airmen and Marines." The proper term for those serving in the U.S. Navy is sailors; you're telling me that someone on Barack Obama's staff hasn't pointed that out? Then the web site states that recruitment is essentially down and that problems in that arena have been swept under the rug. When since President Bush has assumed the Commander-in-Chief role has there been a recruitment problem? The U.S. Air Force spent quite some time downsizing to fit into the mold that Congress restricted it to while the U.S. Army has met nearly every goal they've set out. The plan ahead for Barack Obama's would be administration is, "… we must build up our special operations forces, civil affairs, information operations, and other units and capabilities that remain in chronic short supply…" Isn't that the "Rumsfeld Doctrine" which the left has said repeatedly failed us? It is. Then there are calls for an increase in the size of the Army and Marine Corps; another Bush administration run Department of Defense effort. Then there is a call for DoD protection of cyberspace, which I wholeheartedly agree with, but Congress put the brakes on an Air Force Cyber Command recently (the same Congress that Mr. Obama is serving in). What great new ideas is Barack Obama bringing to the Department of Defense? None it would appear. Yet, hope and change are the tenets of his campaign.

When I pull up the economy page I was disturbed by a simple play on numbers, "The Bush tax cuts give those who earn over $1 million dollars a tax cut nearly 160 times greater than that received by middle-income Americans." Shouldn't those making more money get a bigger tax break in dollars and cents than those making less money when a tax break is issued? That's simple numbers isn't it? If I make two-million dollars a year and I get a 10% tax cut then obviously I will get a bigger (in dollars) tax cut than someone making twenty-five thousand dollars a year who gets a 10% or even 30% tax cut. This claim by the Obama campaign is a ploy at best and a predicated falsehood at worst. Barack Obama says he's going to work to renegotiate NAFTA. That's the same NAFTA that gives the United States a big claim of relatively affordable, non-terrorist sympathizer oil from our good friends in Canada. Is Barack Obama willing to drill more at home so that we can deal with Canada's biggest bargaining chip in NAFTA negotiations? No. How is that going to help our economy? There are also numerous mentions of "programs" to create jobs. These are along the same lines of the programs that have a city like Hickory, North Carolina seeing more people getting out of the furniture industry, taking unemployment, and federal funding for continued education so that they can go get an associate's degree in nursing then not use that degree for anything other than to say they have a degree. What good does that do our nation? This isn't the grand change that Barack Obama campaigns on. This is, most certainly, not the hope I'm looking for; it is simply more of the same and that is quite scary. Yet, the Obama campaign is yelling from the hilltops that John McCain is more of the same; the double-talk bothers me greatly.

Then I jump over to the Barack Obama page on taxes. Let me preface this by saying that any man that when asked by another man (the proverbial Joe the Plumber) if they are making too much money and Barack Obama flat out says he is, that is beyond scary. I think I know how to spend my money better than Congress with their bridges to nowhere (which Sarah Palin fought against) and their millions of dollars funding art projects that have no impact on my well being. But, again, there are talks of cuts for the low income folks, those of us that are saving up money for college, and our nation's retirees but no talk of maintaining the current tax cuts that have done me and many others so well over the past eight years. No mention of the death tax; why do I get taxed for dying? How can you tax a man for doing one of two things guaranteed in life? Why is it that my family must pay the United States for me doing the one thing at this point that there is no doubt I will do? Yet, somehow, this is acceptable. The Obama tax plan page is probably the least informative of the three key issues I've looked at.

In conclusion, I leave you with this one true thought. What is Barack Obama going to do that President Bush didn't already do? Nothing, other than raise taxes, continue the current defense strategy already laid out and lay waste to the economy. What is Barack Obama's reaction going to be when he is faced with his Cuban Missile Crisis, his stock market crash, or even worse, his 9/11? Nobody knows.

I want you to imagine sitting in a room with 25 people, most of whom have graduate degrees from Columbia and other well-known educational centers and hear them figuring out the logistics for the elimination of 25 million people and they were dead serious.

Obama's radical friends especially communist friends doesn't make me feel too comfortable at this point.

DESPITE being shot twice during an ambush in Afghanistan, an SAS soldier lashed himself to the front of his patrol vehicle so he wouldn't be left behind if he passed out from loss of blood and kept on fighting.

The Digger is expected to be recommended for a high level bravery award.

Suffering from serious upper body wounds, the soldier struggled on to the front of his SAS long range patrol vehicle (LRPV) and, under heavy fire, used a rope to attach himself firmly between the vehicle's bull bar and radiator.

Once he was secured, and there was no chance that he would fall off if he fainted, he picked up his rifle and resumed firing at the enemy during a two-hour fighting withdrawal.

SAS troops and their special forces comrades from the Commando Regiment are well aware of the slow and painful death that awaits them if they are captured by the Taliban.

The Digger, who cannot be identified, faded in and out of consciousness, emptying several magazines as volleys of enemy rounds and rocket propelled grenades, rained down around him.

He was finally evacuated from the battle field at high speed still lashed to the front of the LRPV. [...]

A source told The Courier-Mail the Digger was now "up and about" and would recover fully from his serious gunshot wounds. His heroic deeds will be recognised when he is recommended for a high level bravery award.

Several others engaged in the do-or-die battle on September 2 are also in line for top honours.

This is one heck of a story about bravery and survival. Hats off to this digger and I wish him a speedy recovery.

There was a downer to this story as due to a "glitch" the pay was docked of 100 SAS soldiers, some serving in Afghanistan. Luckily this has been fixed. This such "glitch" is no way to treat our finest and bravest allies!

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — U.S. Special Forces soldiers conducting a daring nighttime operation freed a kidnapped American working for the Army Corps of Engineers — the first known hostage rescue by American forces in Afghanistan.

The American, who was abducted in mid-August, had been held in a growing insurgent stronghold 30 miles west of Kabul, U.S. military officials told The Associated Press. They said several insurgents were killed in last week's mission to free him.

Taliban militants have kidnapped dozens of international aid workers, journalists and other foreigners in recent years and have demanded large ransoms or the release of imprisoned Taliban fighters for their freedom. Increasingly aggressive crime syndicates have also raked in big money by kidnapping wealthy Afghans and foreigners and demanding ransoms.

Hostage rescues are rarely attempted and are difficult to pull off successfully. Only two such missions are known to have occurred, both in 2007. In one, both Italian captives were wounded in a raid by Italian commandos.

Last week's rescue came to the attention of the AP after a U.S. military official sought to bring its successful outcome into the public eye. Officials declined to reveal even the smallest detail or the captive's identity, saying they did not want to compromise military tactics or the man's safety.

US airstrikes in southern and southeastern Afghanistan met with both success and tragedy over the past 24 hours. A strike in Helmand province killed a senior Taliban commander, while another in Khost accidentally killed nine Afghan soliders. The attacks come as NATO has come under pressure to reduce civilian casualties while fighting a resurgent Taliban and al Qaeda force.

The Helmand strike killed a senior Taliban commander named Mullah Ghafar and two other fighters, the US military said in a press release. Ghafar operated along the border between Kandahar and neighboring Helmand province. He is also thought to have been behind numerous attacks in Farah and Nimruz province.

In 2006, the BBC reported Ghafar commanded a Taliban force estimated to have between 300 and 500 fighters. "He is allegedly in regular contact with the Iranian secret service via an Iranian-Baloch tribal family which is heavily involved in the opium trade," according to the report. Ghafar was reportedly wounded in an airstrike that killed Mullah Janan, another senior Taliban leader, in Kandahar's Panjwai district in July 2008

(London, England) The British Humanist Association (BHA) has raised money to place atheist ads on and inside London's buses. Prominent leader in the atheist faith, Professor Richard Dawkin, is contributing.

FBI removed the term 'honor killing' from a wanted poster of muslim immigrant, Yasser Abdel Said, who killed his two daughters. The FBI stated that they did not want to label the case as a religiously motivated crime. CAIR, the un-indicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land trail, of course hailed the FBI's decision to remove the term.

"The person who wrote it up did not see the misunderstanding that [the original wording] would create,” White said.

White added that the FBI should not be in the business of calling cases anything that is not described in law.

“It’s our job to find the fugitive. It’s not our job to label this case anything other than what it is, what it is from a criminal perspective,” he said, noting that there was no legal definition of an “honor killing” and that such a motive had not yet been proven in court.

COPENHAGEN, Oct 21 (Reuters) - Two Danish Muslim men were sentenced to 12 and seven years in prison by a Copenhagen court on Tuesday for producing explosives in an apartment with the intent of carrying out a bomb attack.

Danish police arrested the men during a raid against several addresses in the Danish capital in September 2007. Six other individuals detained were subsequently released.

The court did not identify the two, but Danish media named them as Hammad Khurshid, a 22-year-old Dane of Pakistani origin and Abdoulghani Tohki, also 22, from Afghanistan.

West Midlands Police swooped on five separate residential addresses and two business addresses in and around the city to arrest the men, aged between 29 and 36, under the Terrorism Act, 2006.

"The arrests - on suspicion of being involved in the commission, preparation or instigation of an act of terrorism - took place at approximately 6am this morning at five addresses in the Birmingham area," a police spokesman said. "As part of the investigation, two business properties were also searched."

(Fresno, California) Yesterday, a member of the radical Muslims of the Americas group, Ramadan Abdullah, was sentenced to life in prison for the 2001 killing of Fresno County Sheriff's Deputy Erik Telen.

Last Friday, Fresno County Superior Court Judge Ralph Nunez found Abdullah, 27, guilty of first-degree murder with special circumstances for fatally shooting Telen.

Judge Nunez sentenced Abdullah to life in prison without parole. Defense lawyers argued that Abdullah should be instead treated for mental illness and have the possibility of parole. The judge denied any consideration of parole but did recommend treatment while incarcerated.

Although it wasn't observable, Abdullah's lawyers said he was remorseful. Abdullah said nothing during yesterday's proceedings.

(Helsinki, Finland) Four members of the Kurdistan Workers Party, known as the PKK, were arrested for an attack on the Turkish Embassy early this morning. One person was injured.

The attack occurred only a few hours after Kurds demonstrated outside the embassy in support of Abdullah Ocalan, the jailed leader of the PKK.

The door of the embassy building was set ablaze around 3:00 am (0000 GMT), though the fire was quickly detected by a police patrol and extinguished, police said.

"We have four young men detained and we are questioning them to determine if they were involved," chief inspector Markku Stenberg told AFP.

Finnish media reported some of the detained were of Kurdish origin, but Stenberg would not comment on those reports.

While police said no one was injured in the attack, the embassy said in a statement that the blaze had "caused material damage in the entrance of the embassy and one functionary was hospitalised."

"We strongly condemn this act which carries all the signs of a politically motivated terroristic (sic) attack carried out by the PKK/KONGRA-GEL terrorist organisation," it said.

This is arguably a reason that the rest of the world supposedly hates America.

Via The Guardian: An Afghan appeal court has overturned the death sentence of a student journalist who was accused of blasphemy after distributing anti-Islamic material, instead sentencing him to 20 years in prison.

Parwez Kambakhsh, 24, whose plight prompted an international campaign to save him, was studying journalism at Balkh University in the northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif and writing for local newspapers when he was arrested in October 2007.

Prosecutors alleged that Kambakhsh disrupted classes by asking questions about women's rights under Islam. They said he illegally distributed an article that suggested the Prophet Mohammad had ignored the rights of women.

Makes me sick to think we've settled for this.

These are charts of rolling averages of recent polling data from Rasmussen for Ohio and Florida:

The solid lines are graphs of rolling averages of Rasmussen's raw numbers (the stars). I ran a rolling average on these numbers for a reason. While it can sometimes be tough to spot trends in raw numbers, rolling averages can give a different perspective. Looking at these graphs, it appears that McCain's average is showing solid and steady upward momentum in Florida, while Obama is dropping. In Ohio, it appears that Obama's average was catching up on McCain's average in Ohio, but his rise may be slowing. His numbers may, in fact, be dropping in both states.

Looking at either the raw numbers or the rolling averages, it's not looking great for Obama in at least these two battleground states.

VIA WSJ: As Barack Obama's energy adviser has now made clear, the would-be President intends to blackmail -- or rather, greenmail -- Congress into falling in line with his climate agenda.

Jason Grumet is currently executive director of an outfit called the National Commission on Energy Policy and one of Mr. Obama's key policy aides. In an interview last week with Bloomberg, Mr. Grumet said that come January the Environmental Protection Agency "would initiate those rulemakings" that classify carbon as a dangerous pollutant under current clean air laws. That move would impose new regulation and taxes across the entire economy, something that is usually the purview of Congress. Mr. Grumet warned that "in the absence of Congressional action" 18 months after Mr. Obama's inauguration, the EPA would move ahead with its own unilateral carbon crackdown anyway.

Al Qaida's #2 in Iraq, Muhammad Moumou, who was killed last week held Swedish citizenship. Moumou obtained Swedish citizenship back in 1994. Moumou was known to Swedish authorities as early as 2004 when he was arrested in Denmark for playing a role in the suicide bombing in Casablance back in 2003 that killed 33 people.

He was a close associate of al-Zarqawi and apparently served as Zarqawi's European liason for chemical and biological weapons.

The intelligence official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said Muhammad Moumou, 43, a Moroccan native, was the man U.S. military officials in Baghdad identified Wednesday as Abu Qaswarah.

U.S. officials say Moumou, who was born in the Moroccan city of Fez and obtained Swedish citizenship in 1994, was a close associate of al-Qaeda in Iraq founder Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, who was killed in a U.S. airstrike in 2006.

WARSAW (AFP) — A Polish engineer kidnapped two weeks ago in Pakistan by suspected Taliban militants appeared in a video address Tuesday urging the release of jailed Taliban fighters.

"I'm in the hands of the Pakistani Taliban ... I demand that all those watching and listening to me, including Poles, put pressure on the (Pakistani) government to free those (Taliban) who are jailed. In this way, I will also be freed," engineer Piotr Stanczak said in a video aired by Poland's TVN24 news channel Tuesday.

The video was originally received by Pakistan media outlets.

Stanczak appears in traditional Pakistani attire sitting on a carpet in front of a stone wall. He spoke in a calm voice into a microphone with the barrels of two rifles pointed at him.

Family and friends confirmed the person who appeared in the video was indeed Stanczak.

One of two Chinese engineers held hostage for seven weeks by Taliban militants escaped Friday, Pakistan's military said.

The two engineers, who were kidnapped in August in northern Pakistan, both attempted to escape early Friday but one was shot in the leg and remains in the hands of his abductors, said Muslim Khan, a spokesman for the Taliban.

Khan said the remaining captive had been moved to a new location.

It was not immediately clear what the group has been demanding in exchange for the hostages' release.

The Taliban have murdered a female aid worker in Kabul. A couple brave Mujahadeen pulled up beside her on their motor bike. Pulled a gun and shot the unarmed woman to death as she walked to work.

Via BBC: A woman working for a UK-registered charity has been shot dead near Kabul University in the Afghan capital.

The woman, Gayle Williams, was a UK and South African national. She was killed by two men on a motorbike, witnesses told the BBC.

The Taleban are reported to have said they killed her because she was working for a Christian organisation called Serve Afghanistan.

In August the Taleban killed three foreign women near Kabul.

(Rabat, Morocco) A Moroccan court convicted and sentenced 45 Islamist terrorists on Friday for last year's suicide bombing of an Internet cafe in Casablanca. The defendants were found guilty of forming a terrorist gang, making explosives, committing theft and forgery and failing to denounce terrorism.

According to defense lawyer Khalil Idrissi, the longest jail term was imposed upon Abdelkrim Ougard who was sentenced to 30 years.

All those convicted were accused of links to the March 2007 suicide bombing at in Casablanca. The bomber, Abdelfettah Raydi, 23, detonated his charge after the cafe's owner caught him surfing an Islamist website. After the blast, a police investigation found an alleged plot to attack Casablanca's port and police stations and tourist sites around Morocco.

Youssef Khouidri, who dropped his bombs and fled the scene of Raydi's blast, was sentenced to 15 years in prison. Twelve others were given six to 15 years, and four people were acquitted, Idrissi said.

Nonetheless, it's understandable that the Moroccans would take a harsh view of terrorists since the nation has suffered serious attacks in the past. Notably, in 2003, 45 people were killed in a series of bomb attacks in Casablanca.

OK, folks, it's time for a sober and realistic assessment.

It's October. Crunch time. The Democrat ticket is up by as much as 11 points in some polls.

With almost no time to go before election day, polling shows the Democrat ticket up several points nationally and up FIVE POINTS in "must-win" Florida. Two weeks out from election day, some polling shows the Democrat ticket holding double-digit leads in 13 swing states.

Some states, like New Hampshire, which should be competitive, can only be considered "Obama Country." Obama will win those states, unless the polls are just ridiculously off.

Is the Republican ticket toast?

It may be, but as Chris Rock says, ya just never know. If you don't believe him, just ask President Dewey.

My .02: the only way this election becomes a foregone conclusion is if we accept the media narrative and let it become so.

Don't believe the hype.

TOKYO (AFP) — North Korea has ordered its diplomats overseas to get ready for an "important announcement" that may be related to the health of its reclusive leader Kim Jong-Il, a Japanese newspaper said Saturday.

Pyongyang has told diplomats around the world to stay in one place and refrain from travelling, the Yomiuri Shimbun reported, quoting several unnamed sources familiar with North Korean issues.

The sources speculated the message could be related to North Korea's relations with South Korea or the health of Kim, Japan's best-selling daily said, adding that the announcement was expected in a few days.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — A missile attack from a remotely piloted U.S. aircraft is believed to have killed a senior member of Al-Qaida in South Waziristan on Thursday, a former member of a militant group in the region said in an interview.

The operative, Khalid Habib, an Egyptian who was chief of operations in Pakistan's tribal region, is described by the CIA as the fourth-ranking person in the Qaida hierarchy.

The attack, on the village of Taparghai, killed four people, some of them Arabs, according to initial reports Thursday.

A Pakistani intelligence official declined Friday to confirm the death of Habib. A U.S. official involved in the campaign against Al-Qaida in Pakistan's tribal areas said he could not confirm the report that Habib had died. It often takes U.S. officials some time to determine the success or failure of attacks by remotely piloted aircraft in the rugged and remote terrain of the tribal areas.

Habib recently moved to Taparghai from Wana, the capital of South Waziristan, which is in an area that the Americans have been attacking with increasing frequency. Their primary goal is to break the militant network there related to Sirajuddin Haqqani, a Taliban leader closely allied to Al-Qaida, the former member of the militant group said.

Habib had relocated to Taparghai expressly to avoid missile strikes, the former militant said. The area around Taparghai is near Makin, a base of Baitullah Mehsud, the chief of the Pakistani Taliban.
Habib was in a parked Toyota four-by-four when he was hit by the missile.

The University of Nebraska at Lincoln (UNL) invited "unrepentant terrorist" William Ayers back in February to speak at the University on November 15 as the keynote speaker at an event celebrating the 100th anniversary of the UNL teachers college.

Officials had said Ayers was invited to come Nov. 15 because of his expertise in research related to small schools and urban education.

Ayers is currently at the University of Illinois Chicago and is an education professor.

Tonight, UNL announced that it has rescinded its offer for Ayers to speak due to "safety concerns."

The announcement comes after Gov. Dave Heineman and others asked the university to rescind its invitation.

"This has become an embarrassment, not only to the university, but the state of Nebraska," Heineman said. "I've heard from parents who want to pull children out of the university, contributors who no longer want to give to the university. It's not worth it, considering who this individual is."

The chairman of the University of Nebraska Board of Regents says calls from the governor and other politicians had nothing to do with the cancellation of a visit from William Ayers.

Chuck Hassebrook says those calls were crass opportunism.

He says the decision fell to the college that invited Ayers to speak months before he became a central figure in the presidential campaign.

He also said this, though:

But nonetheless, he is relieved. He called Ayers an "unrepentant terrorist" and said he shouldn't be given a keynote address.

Earl Scudder, a Board of Regents candidate, called the invitation "a rare example of poor judgment."

"if they properly investigated that background when he was invited in February," said Scudder. "I would hope he would not have been invited to address the University students."

But Scudder stopped short of demanding the University rescind the invitation.

While I passionately disagree with Scudder's decision not to demand the invitation be rescinded, I do agree with his concern about the University looking at Ayers background. A simple Google search would have given any half-brained twit enough material to say "hell no, he ain't coming HERE." Either way, though, it was egregiously reckless. If they didn't do their homework, they have no idea who they are inviting to come speak at their University and if they DID do their homework, it is a horrific lapse in judgment.

I personally call bullshit. I believe the pressures of many helped deliver the message that WE DON'T WANT BILL AYERS IN NEBRASKA!! The fallout had the University carried through with their plans would have been significant.

Here is background on the decision-making process used to select and invite and reaffirm Ayers' invitation to speak:

"We do not condone his 1960s, 1970s actions in any way, shape or form ... but we are interested in the 40 years since then, when he has developed skills in topics that are of interest to our students and faculty," said Marjorie Kostelnik, dean of the College of Education and Human Sciences.

"We have made clear to him that what we are interested in is his research, not his political past."

She said Ayers is an expert in two areas that are of interest to the university’s teaching students: teaching methods that help assure students of all socio-economic backgrounds receive quality education; and research designed to increase teachers’ understanding of how people think and learn.

Kostelnik said Ayers was invited before he emerged as a controversial figure in the presidential campaign but that faculty members who decided to invite him, including herself, had a superficial knowledge of his past.

During a faculty discussion of whether he should be invited, his violent past "never came up," Kostelnik said.

When his invitation was announced at a faculty meeting in August, a faculty member asked if the group knew who Ayers is. Kostelnik said more research was done on his radical activities, and the group that decided to invite him stuck with its initial decision.

"The group was very clear to me they were purely interested in his research perspectives," she said.

Announced yesterday, Glenn Beck has been hired to host a 5 to 6 PM weeknight show on Fox News Channel, starting in the spring. Beck's contract with CNN ends in February.

Apparently, Beck and CNN could not agree on contract terms, leaving an opening for Roger Ailes, chairman of Fox News, to make an offer. (more)

I got nothin...

OK so the hanging flash video freeze bug has worn out my patience. I've turned off java and tried several other "solutions" from forums.

It will help for a while but it always comes back. After one or two youtubes or other flash vidoes I'm done. Then restart firefox, restart computer, break things. I really like the browser but they still have not fixed it and I can't take it any effing more. I'll have to suffer through with IE I guess.

I've had it up to here with waiting for Mozilla to fix it. F*ck Firefox!

I'll confess I've agreed with Peggy Noonan many times when she's hammered on the GOP establishment for abandoning the Reagan vision. Ms. Noonan has been spot on as to that--and eloquent, as always.

That said, I've finally had ENOUGH of whining and elitism from our commentariat, including Ms. Noonan, as regards Gov. Palin.

In case you missed it, Sarah Palin is the only reason John McCain is even IN THIS RACE AT ALL right now, and if the GOP plans to even EXIST 20 years from now, re-connection with, and reinvigoration of, the grassroots base is the only hope that the party has. Palin brings that re-connection and re-invigoration in droves.

What would you have preferred, Ms. Noonan? What combo would have put this race in the bag? McCain-Lieberman? McCain-Huckabee? McCain-Pawlenty? Please...

Above all else, the nomination of the generally-libertarianish and rugged individualist Palin at least slowed (if not blocked) the ascension of the center-left populist Huckabee to the front-runner spot in 2012, and for that reason alone, all limited-government conservatives owe McCain a debt of gratitude.

I'll concede that, given the option, Ronald Reagan would have been a better choice for VP than Sarah Palin.

Sadly, Ronald Reagan was not an option this time around.

Of the choices available to John McCain, Gov. Palin was, at the very least, one of the best. Whatever her detractors may have to say about her, they should at least be honest enough to concede that point.

As far as I'm concerned, whatever happens come November 4th, I for one am leaning toward Sarah Palin in 2012.

(Mesa, Arizona) After a Maricopa County Sheriff's undercover detective infiltrated a cleaning business and was instructed how to obtain fraudulent identification, Sheriff Joe Arpaio ordered a predawn raid.

Early Thursday, about 30 deputies and 30 volunteer posse members stormed the Mesa City Hall and the library carrying semi-automatic weapons and wearing bullet-proof vests.

Deputies fanned out and arrested three people; 13 others, including a manager at Management Cleaning Controls, were arrested at residences later that morning, Arpaio said. Ten were arrested on suspicion of identity theft and six for potentially being in the country illegally.

The 16 arrested included six people who were not named in the warrants. Arpaio said they are still looking for 15 more company employees. [...]

Joining Arpaio in an afternoon press conference, Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas said the cleaning company had been under investigation for months. When asked why Mesa police could not handle the case, Arpaio said, "It's my jurisdiction, too. You seem to forget."

Then he suggested that there was something in the Mesa police "culture" that "they do not want to enforce the immigration laws."

Heh. It appears that there is less than general agreement within Maricopa County on how to enforce immigration laws.

Hello, my name is Rich Pearson and I have been active in the firearm rights movement for over 40 years. For the past 15 years, I have served in the Illinois state capitol as the chief lobbyist for the Illinois State Rifle Association.

I lobbied Barack Obama extensively while he was an Illinois State Senator. As a result of that experience, I know Obama's attitudes toward guns and gun owners better than anyone. The truth be told, in all my years in the Capitol I have never met a legislator who harbors more contempt for the law-abiding firearm owner than does Barack Obama.

Although Obama claims to be an advocate for the 2nd Amendment, his voting record in the Illinois Senate paints a very different picture. While a state senator, Obama voted for a bill that would ban nearly every hunting rifle, shotgun and target rifle owned by Illinois citizens. That same bill would authorize the state police to raid homes of gun owners to forcibly confiscate banned guns. Obama supported a bill that would shut down law-abiding firearm manufacturers including Springfield Armory, Armalite, Rock River Arms and Les Baer. Obama also voted for a bill that would prohibit law-abiding citizens from purchasing more than one gun per month.

Without a doubt, Barack Obama has proven himself to be an enemy of the law abiding firearm owner. At the same time, Obama has proven himself to be a friend to the hardened criminal. While a state senator, Obama voted 4 times against legislation that would allow a homeowner to use a firearm in defense of home and family.

Does Barack Obama still sound to you like a "friend" of the law-abiding gun owner?

And speaking of friends, you can always tell a person by the company they keep. Obama counts among his friends the Rev. Michael Pfleger - a renegade Chicago priest who has openly called for the murder of gun shop owners and pro-gun legislators. Then there is his buddy Richard Daley, the mayor of Chicago who has declared that if it were up to him, nobody would be allowed to own a gun. And let's not forget Obama's pal George Soros - the guy who has pumped millions of dollars into the UN's international effort to disarm law-abiding citizens.

Obama has shown that he is more than willing to use other people's money to fund his campaign to take your guns away from you. While a board member of the leftist Joyce Foundation, Barack Obama wrote checks for tens of millions of dollars to extremist gun control organizations such as the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence and the Violence Policy Center.

Does Barack Obama still sound to you like a "friend" of the law-abiding gun owner?

By now, I'm sure that many of you have received mailings from an organization called "American Hunters and Shooters Association(AHSA)" talking about what a swell fellow Obama is and how he honors the 2nd Amendment and how you will never have to worry about Obama coming to take your guns. Let me make it perfectly clear - everything the AHSA says about Obama is pure hogwash. The AHSA is headed by a group of left-wing elitists who subscribe to the British view of hunting and shooting. That is, a state of affairs where hunting and shooting are reserved for the wealthy upper-crust who can afford guided hunts on exclusive private reserves. The AHSA is not your friend, never will be.

In closing, I'd like to remind you that I'm a guy who has actually gone nose to nose with Obama on gun rights issues. The Obama I know cannot even begin to identify with this nation's outdoor traditions. The Obama I know sees you, the law abiding gun owner, as nothing but a low-class lummox who is easily swayed by the flash of a smile and a ration of rosy rhetoric. The Obama I know is a stony-faced liar who has honed his skill at getting what he wants - so long as people are willing to give it to him.

That's the Barack Obama I know.

Across Afghanistan today, 88 taliban were killed in separate incidences. The BBC reported that 18 taliban were killed after they launched another unsuccessful attack on Lashkar Gah. Earlier in the week the taliban launched a large attack on Lashkar Gah that resulted in 100 dead taliban.

Reuters reported another 70 killed by an airstrike in the Helmand province.

Yesterday 19 taliban were killed as well as a commander, who facilitated the movement of terrorists across the Afghan border and coordinated attacks against NATO troops. Details at ROA

So how many goat virgins do these dead terrorism scum get?

A report by Brent Smith in the National Insitute of Justice showed that terrorists don't like to commute. The study looked at four different groups of terrorists, international, leftist, right wing and environmental, in the US and looked at where the terrorists resided and where they planned to attack.

The study found that 44% of all terrorists lived within 30 miles of their target. But if you look at international terrorists (I think this is referring to jihadis) the numbers are even higher. Nearly three-fifths lived within 30 miles of their target.

The study also looked at how long, on average, it takes terrorists to prepare for their attacks. For international terrorists the average time to prepare for an attack is 92 days. The study showed that the majority of the preparations for attack are completed 15-30 days before the actual attack date.

Oct. 15 (Bloomberg) -- U.S.-led troops killed the No. 2 leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq during an operation in the northern city of Mosul, the military said.

Abu Qaswarah, a Moroccan also known as Abu Sara, died Oct. 5 along with five terrorism suspects in an exchange of fire with coalition troops in a building that was a key base for al-Qaeda, the military said in an e-mailed statement today. His body was positively identified, according to the statement.

The Moroccan, who trained with al-Qaeda in Afghanistan, directed the movement of foreign terrorists into northern Iraq, the military said. As the group's most senior leader in the north of Iraq since 2007, Abu Qaswarah oversaw the failed attempt to destroy the Mosul Civic Center during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, according to the statement.

None of us can say for certain what we will see when we look at our newspapers on the morning of November 5th.

If some of the mainstream media pundits can be believed, the Democrats could end up with a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate and a "Blue Dog"-proof majority in the House.

They like to pretend they know, but they don't know, and neither do any of the rest of us. There is reason for concern, but there is also reason for optimism. The experts have been surprised many times before. Only time will tell.

What should really matter to each of us, however, is not what we'll all be seeing in the newspapers on the morning of November 5th.

What should matter is what we'll be seeing when we look in our bathroom mirrors.

When I look in that mirror, will I see a person who succumbed to despair and cynicism in a crucial hour, who stayed home, or put forth a half-hearted effort, convinced by the incessant drumbeat of our enemies that our battles were lost before they were even joined?

Or will I instead see a person I can be proud of, who fought like hell for cherished ideas and principles, unwilling to let my enemies subdue me without a fight?

Whatever I may see in the newspaper on November 5th, I certainly hope I see in the mirror someone who more closely resembles the latter.

Now, many of you may not be feeling particularly warm and fuzzy about the Republican Party these days. Any of you who feel that way are in very good company, and are joined by many conservatives and independents--including yours truly.

We're all angry and frustrated. The question for each of us, however, is whether we will channel that anger and frustration into something meaningful and productive, or simply waste it in some stupid and futile gesture of general protest against "the system."

Most of us are mad as hell at George W. Bush, and few of us are particularly fond of John McCain, but to let your feelings about Bush or McCain, or your least favorite RINO incumbent, dictate your actions about ALL Republicans or ALL incumbents is foolish and counter-productive.

Do whatever your conscience tells you in the voting booth, but whatever you do, get your ass to the polls and vote. Most of you reading this have at least one solid conservative reformer you can vote for, and many of our solid conservative reformers out there are in tight races this cycle. What does it benefit the conservative movement to see John Shadegg (AZ-3) or Marilyn Musgrave (CO-4) kicked out of office? To let even one of our conservative, reformist champions fall because of general anger at Republicans (actually RINOs) or "incumbents" or a desire to "send a message" is stupid.

Is "Politician X" part of the problem? Feel free to throw him out on his ear with my blessing--but please do your homework before you do. Is he or she really part of the problem?

If you don't know whether your own elected officials are part of the problem or part of the solution (i.e., a conservative), you might want to have a look over here, where you can find out, at a glance, how solid each of the federal incumbents is on immigration policy, taxes and spending, gun rights and right-to-life issues, based on interest group ratings. The database shows that Tom Coburn, for example, is rock solid across-the-board. Arlen Specter? Not so much.

"Another great plot" is being investigated by the authorities, counter-terrorism minister Lord West warned today.

"There is another great (terrorist) plot building up again and we are monitoring this," he told peers during a debate on new security laws.

Lord West, the former head of the Royal Navy, revealed the existence of the plot as the House of Lords continued debating the Counter Terrorism Bill.

He gave no more details of the threat.

His warning came less than 24 hours after peers forced the Government to abandon plans to extend maximum pre-charge detention for terror suspects to 42 days.

Home Secretary Jacqui Smith dropped the measure from the Bill after it was defeated in the upper house by 191 votes. But she warned critics that they were exposing the country to a greater risk.

Lord West was speaking during exchanges after repeating the Home Secretary's emergency statement last night setting out her plans to keep the 42-day proposals in a separate piece of legislation to be introduced if needed in face of an emergency.

He told peers: "Some of the measures that we have put into place in the past 15 months have made us safer, but that does not mean that we are safe.

"The threat is huge. It dipped slightly and is now rising again within the context of 'severe'. There are large complex plots. We unravelled one, which caused damage to al-Qa'ida and the plots faded slightly.

"However, another great plot is building up again, which we are monitoring.

If you are a conservative, Tim Walberg (MI-07) is a candidate you should support. He has received high marks on pro-life, gun rights, immigration and fiscal issues. He has opposed the Bush administration on immigration policy and No Child Left Behind.

There is no question that if Schauer makes it to Congress he will be one of the worst tax-hiking and pro-labor liberals in Congress.

More evidence that the Pakistani military is actively aiding the taliban. Not that any more evidence is needed.

Last year British SAS forces had killed a taliban leader in the Helmand province. Upon inspecting his body they found a Pakistani military ID on him. However, the British government kept this under wraps for the past year. This led to a diplomatic row with Afghan President Karzai, that he threatened to expel British diplomats from Afghanistan.

Almost a year after two teenage girls were found dead — allegedly executed by their father — in the back seat of a taxicab in Texas, the FBI is saying for the first time that the case may have been an "honor killing."

Sarah Said, 17, and her sister Amina, 18, were killed on New Year's Day, but for nine months authorities deflected questions about whether their father — the prime suspect and the subject of a nationwide manhunt — may have targeted them because of a perceived slight upon his honor.

Of course CAIR tried to make the "culture" excuse to the murders.

"As far as we're concerned, until the motive is proven in a court of law, this is [just] a homicide," Mustafaa Carroll, the executive director of the Council of American-Islamic Relations in Dallas, told FOXNews.com.

The girls had confessed fornication to their mother. Fornication or sex before marriage is a crime under Islamic Sharia law. The maximum penalty is death, usually by stoning or hanging or in some cases beheading.

Often Islamist will say that such killing is un-Islamic because a verdict calling for the execution was not handed down by a proper Sharia court. Not for any disagreement with the action. Remember women are murdered every day by relatives and by state actors for the very same behavior. If sanctioned by an official Sharia court or not, I still call it murder.

Dr. Phyllis Chesler, (*) author of several books, including "The Death of Feminism: What's Next in the Struggle for Women's Freedom," said that the case fits the description of an honor killing.

"The premeditation, the family collaboration, and the particular rules (set for the girls) make this consistent with an honor killing — not just domestic violence,” she said.

KIRKUK, Iraq - The first class of Iraqi Air Force student pilots were awarded their flying wings as part of a graduation ceremony here, Oct. 13.

Nearly a year after the three trainees, Iraqi 2nd Lieutenants Hassan, Majid and Habeeb, entered the program, the success of the joint Iraqi Flying Training Wing and 52nd Expeditionary Flight Training Squadron came to a pivotal point in building a credible objective air force capable of conducting sustained operations in defense of the country.

As operations expand and the number of students being trained increases, the Iraqi Air Force will move closer to developing the foundational capabilities that will allow it to sustain independent operations and grow to meet future demands.

The new Iraqi Air Force stood up after the invasion in 2003 but, until today, all pilots were veterans who rejoined the force.

Before the graduation ceremony, the training wing dedicated its new facility with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

“The capability of this facility to train Iraqi pilots is very significant and will provide for the security of Iraq,” said U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Brooks Bash, Coalition Air Force Transition Team commanding general.

PESHAWAR, Pakistan - A 20-year-old American man was arrested late Monday at a checkpoint near the Afghan border in a tribal region where Pakistani troops are fighting Taliban and al-Qaida militants, police said.

He said the man — identified on his passport as Juddi Kenan — did not have permission to be in the region as is required by Pakistani law. He was arrested at a checkpoint trying to enter Mohmand agency, Shahab said.

"He is holding an American passport, which shows him as a resident of Florida," Shahab said.

A mere TEN DAYS AGO, the polls were a DEAD HEAT in most of the swing states, and no one was calling for McCain to fire his entire staff and completely change his entire campaign strategy.

There are still TWENTY-TWO DAYS left between now and election day. That's an ETERNITY in presidential politics, and the numbers appear to be turning in McCain's direction in key states.

The other half - 1.2 million barrels per day - goes to America, Venezuela's only genuinely paying customer...

...Mr Chavez faces huge financial problems. Nobody is sure at what point his government would be unable to pay its bills, but most sources consulted believe this would probably happen if oil falls to $80 a barrel. Yesterday, oil was trading at $79.80.

It's that time of year again; yet another anniversary of the attack on the USS Cole in Port Aden, Yemen on October 12th, 2000. In that attack, our son and sixteen of his mates were brutally murdered, and 39 other sailors were wounded.

Since the last time I wrote you a year ago, many changes, some positive and some not, have occurred in relation to the attack on the Cole and the status of your corrupt regime. First and foremost, we wrote our Texas representative and members of Congress asking for a Congressional Hearing into why our government still supports your dictatorship after you gave the plotters and planners of the Cole attack reduced sentences and pardons for the murders of 17 American Sailors. The rest of the convicted killers conveniently escaped from your prisons. And some remain free to this day, eight years after the attack.

Our Senators have kept us informed as to our requests. We received word recently from them that next year Congress will hold Judiciary Committee hearings. We are extremely grateful to the politicians who have decided that its way past the time to review and hopefully take action against you and your regime. And to put an end to all your worthless and broken promises that you made to two American presidents and our government.

It can now be stated as fact, President Saleh, that FBI Agent John O'Neil and his team were correct in their suspicion that you and your government knew much more about the pending attack on the Cole than you admitted after the attack. Unfortunately, Ambassador Bodine and President Clinton refused to let the FBI follow up on their leads and question members of your government and family after the attack. Instead FBI agent O'Neil was kicked out of your country for wanting to conduct a proper investigation. How ironic that he would be killed in the 9/11 attack less than one year later; an attack that-if Presidents Clinton and Bush had heeded his requests-would not have happened in all probability.

You Sir could have allowed a thorough investigation after the Cole attack, so all of the clues and evidence and even some of the terrorists who would participate in 9/11 could have been found. But instead you and government not only interfered with the investigation but threw up hurdles to impede and effectively stop the investigation. So really, sir, you and your government are not only guilty in the Cole attack, but just as guilty in withholding evidence and protecting suspects that would later take part in the attack on 9/11.

We all know now, as many did then, that you were and still are covering up for your Al-Qaeda friends. You and your government did an excellent job at it too. All of the clues and leads that were just waiting to be pieced together after the Cole attack were concealed so well until it was too late to stop the next attack on our country less than a year later on September 11th.

There is a bright side for us in all of this for us, however. It is the fact that more and more people are now seeing how you have used and manipulated Al-Qaeda and two American administrations to achieve your own sick and twisted goals. More major US newspapers in the past year are now reporting how common it is for you to use Al-Qaeda as a friend one day (to fight for you to help quell rebellions in your country and to keep your people oppressed), and then on the next day use Al-Qaeda as a tool to get more money, arms and other assistance from America.

This past year we have watched as you imprisoned Yemeni journalists and activists who dared to question your regime's brutal tactics. My family and I were proud to sign the petition along with thousands of others to have those journalists freed.

And just as important, if not more so, is all the dedication of the men and women at the Military Commission who are working extremely hard and effectively at bringing more of your Al-Qaeda friends to Justice for the murder of our son and his mates. Even in a democracy such as ours we have faults and obstacles to overcome. We actually have Americans in this country that would rather see terrorists who have murdered their fellow Americans set free than to receive their punishment for their crimes. It's called partisan politics, or putting politics before the truth. But at least your terrorist friends stand to receive a more impartial trial here than they would from you. We all know how you treat killers. You free them to kill again.

My wife and I look forward to watching that trial in person and seeing the first real justice ever served on the killers since the Cole attack. It is my sincerest hope that I will be able to bear witness in person regarding the misery that those terrorists have brought, not only to us but to others as well. It's also my hope that the killers you set free will be caught in the future, and that they too will stand trial in a real courtroom, one that adheres to the laws of truth and justice rather than some dictator's personal whims such as yourself.

My wife and I will go to visit our son's gravesite this Sunday. I am going to read to him the letters from our congress people who are going to finally convene the long overdue Judiciary Hearings. I am also going to read to him how the American people are slowly beginning to realize how you and your regime have been allowed to get away with not only the murder of 17 sailors, but how your refusal to let the FBI conduct a proper Investigations led to one of the worst attacks on American soil, an attack that killed so many of my fellow Americans.

Our son's murder could have meant something at the time of the attack. But it was ignored by our government, because they were concerned about offending you, and because they were in the middle of a presidential election in the country. Historically major decisions are never made at such a time (be it by the Democrats' or Republicans') because they are concerned about negative fallout that might prevent them from keeping their jobs. The attack on the Cole could have been a wakeup call for our leaders to take action before it was too late.

Now our leaders have a second chance at correcting their first mistakes in dealing with you, your regime, and how they mishandled the aftermath of the Cole attack. They can all agree to stop the flow of money and arms to your regime. I hope they finally realize that its time put a stop to your policy of releasing known terrorists to kill other innocent people again, and your use of Al-Qaeda as a political tool to keep your regime in power in Yemen, and to squeeze more assistance from my government. The insanity has to be stopped sometime. I think that you are now watching and living the end of your ruthless reign over your people and Yemen. And the end is coming to your continued manipulation of my government for your own personal power and wealth.

We are also going to share with him about all of our fellow Americans who are helping us in setting right the terrible wrongs committed after the Forgotten Cole attack, and the free Yemenis who are working with us too. We know that he would be proud and happy to know that so many people want see him and his mates obtain the Justice that has been denied them for so many years now. All the help and support we have had from Americans and Yemenis makes me proud and still amazes me. It's one of my wife's greatest comforts to know that so many people care, while our government ignored her pleas for years.

In closing Sir, I would like to add that we still have not received a letter of condolence from your government for our son's murder in your country at your request. We like to think that with a new President in office next year and other new politicians as well that they will finally stop supporting your regime.

At least that action would give some meaning to our son's murder. So would knowing that he and his mates played a part in having one of the world's most devious, conniving, and murderous dictators removed from the position of power where you have caused so much death, destruction, and misery. It's my hope that I will not be writing you this time next year, unless you are in prison, but instead to a new leader of Yemen, a leader who will abide by freedom of the press and speech, freedom of religion, and all the other norms of a free society.

Remember the USS Cole, Mr. President. Because we the families of the murdered sailors and wounded sailors and Americans and free Yemenis will not rest until we achieve our goal of ridding Yemen of your presence.

(Mosul, Iraq) Apparently the moderate Muslim population is not demanding peace and tolerance toward Christians in Mosul. Instead, the Christians are being killed.

Some 3,000 Christians have fled the city over the past week alone in a "major displacement," said Duraid Mohammed Kashmoula, the governor of northern Iraq's Ninevah province. He said most have left for churches, monasteries and the homes of relatives in nearby Christian villages and towns.

"The Christians were subjected to abduction attempts and paid ransom, but now they are subjected to a killing campaign," Kashmoula said, adding he believed "al-Qaida" elements were to blame and called for a renewed drive to root them out.

One might conclude the deadly conditions provide proof that there likely exists no significant number of moderate followers of the religion of peace in Mosul. They must reside in other cities.

...is the moment many of us cease to be particularly interested in getting you elected in his place.

Despite your advice that we shouldn't be scared of Obama as President, I remain very, very troubled by the idea of a President Barack Obama, as do millions of other Americans. If you have any interest in actually becoming President rather than just going through the motions of a campaign, you'd better do whatever you can to keep it that way.

For the most part, you have a chance in this race at all for one reason: you are not Barack Obama. Very few people love you--or even like you. For a great many of us, our support for your candidacy has little, if anything, to do with any wonderful things we expect you to do if you're elected President In fact, if you're elected, we'll no doubt have to spend a whole bunch of our time over the next four years trying to prevent you from doing much. Our support of your candidacy arises, rather, out of the really shitty things we reasonably expect Barack Obama and his socialist allies to do to our country if he's elected.

The moment Barack Obama becomes an acceptable option in this election, you're pretty much finished. If you have any hopes of winning, you'd do well to keep that in mind and act accordingly.

From Evan Kohlmann at the Counterterrorism blog comes word that Al-Fajr Center has shuttered three top jihad forums.. ...suddenly....“for technical reasons”.

According to the Al-Fajr Center, the chat forums were shuttered “for technical reasons” and not—as reported in “the apostate media”—because “the offices of these websites had fallen into the hands of the enemy. Indeed, since when have jihadi websites had permanent offices?” The statement also warned that the three Internet forums will likely remain offline for some time, and that former users should be careful to avoid fraudulent efforts by “untrustworthy sources” to prematurely resurrect them: “If the source of the link is not an official announcement from the [Al-Fajr Media] Center, then it has no credibility."

Factcheck.org claims to be non-partisan, but its treatment of the relationship between Barack Obama and William Ayers seems to me to be nothing more than a rewrite of the Obama campaign's stock talking points.

As an example, the profile characterizes Barack's political "coming out party" as follows:

The same year the two men met through the Annenberg Challenge, Ayers hosted a meet-and-greet coffee for Obama, who was running for state Senate and who lived three blocks away from him.

If you search Factcheck's profile for the word "spokesman," you'll find three hits. Each and every one of them quotes an Obama campaign spokesman. Athough it's clear that the Obama campaign was consulted, I didn't find a single indication that any of the contents of the profile were reviewed by the McCain campaign or that their input was solicited.

Factcheck.org can serve as an unofficial mouthpiece for the Obama campaign if it wants, but if it continues to do so, no one there should be surprised when its claims of neutrality and non-partisanship are considered a joke.

Factcheck's write-up provides plenty of grist for the mill. Unfortunately, I'm headed out right now and don't have the time to thoroughly fisk it. Hopefully, the right-wing blogosphere will shine enough light on Factcheck's bias to either shame them into objectivity or discredit them into irrelevance.

MIRANSHAH, Pakistan (Reuters) - Suspected U.S. drones fired two missile on Saturday into a Pakistani region regarded as an al Qaeda and Taliban safe haven, killing at least five militants, residents and an intelligence official said.

It was the second such attack in North Waziristan tribal region on the Afghan border this week.

"The missiles were fired with a gap of a minute," a Reuters witness said from Miranshah, the main town of North Waziristan. "They caused huge blasts. I saw flames rising toward the sky after the explosions."

An intelligence official said five militants were killed in the attack on a house in a shanty neighborhood known as Machis Colony. There were foreigners also among those killed and their number and nationality had not yet been ascertained, he said.

"The mud-walled house has long been used by the guests as their abode," he said, referring to the term used for the militants in the tribal areas.

I'll admit - I got a twang of "the believer" in me this morning after their pwning of the Dodgers/Manny last night. I watched the game with my wife in a sports bar of howling Phillie phanatics, and it ruled.

With the pain of a devastating loss to the Jays in 93, I've suffered through many long, hard Phillies seasons. If Ryan Howard actually start's hitting, we got a legitimate shot. Ya dig?

It got me to thinking of how awesome baseball is. It's like a chess game, especially when you're protecting a lead against a good team. Michael Medved (a Phillies phan) once said that he liked baseball because at any one moment, you could tell who was winning the game. The competition can be sized up at any moment, and the balance of an inning-for-inning battle can shift rapidly and without warning. I have to agree.

Intermittent spurts of elation twangs of sickening darkness.

And doesn't every human alive watch the World Series every year, regardless of who is in it?

I'm a hockey fan. But the Phillies are the only other team in Philly I've ever really cared about.

The news of Barack Obama's close relationship with Frank Marshall Davis has been around before, but it's important. Via Accuracy in Media:

[T]hrough Frank Marshall Davis, Obama had an admitted relationship with someone who was publicly identified as a member of the Communist Party USA (CPUSA). The record shows that Obama was in Hawaii from 1971-1979, where, at some point in time, he developed a close relationship, almost like a son, with Davis, listening to his "poetry" and getting advice on his career path. But Obama, in his book, Dreams From My Father, refers to him repeatedly as just "Frank."

The reason is apparent: Davis was a known communist who belonged to a party subservient to the Soviet Union. In fact, the 1951 report of the Commission on Subversive Activities to the Legislature of the Territory of Hawaii identified him as a CPUSA member.

Just to be clear:

It's not just that Barack Obama's father was a Marxist economist or that his mother Stanley came from radical far-left roots.

It's not just that Obama's childhood mentor Frank Marshall Davis was a famous communist poet.

It's not just that Jeremiah Wright, Obama's pastor, counselor and spiritual mentor of 20 years is a racist, America-hating radical.

It's not just that Michael Phleger, Obama's other spiritual mentor is every bit as extreme as Wright.

It's not just that his wife Michelle has never been really that proud of America, or that she thinks this country is "mean".

It's not just that Obama refused to wear a flag, or that he refused to salute it during the national anthem.

It's not just that Obama's political and financial benefactor William Ayers is an unrepentant radical socialist terrorist.

It's not just that Bernadine Dohrn regrets that she didn't kill more people back in the 1960s.

Barack Obama, in other words, represented Palmer's best option for perpetuating her political philosophy via her state senate seat.

Given that Alice Palmer knew Barack Obama well and was one of his close political mentors in the Chicago political establishment, it is reasonable to presume that an inquiry into Alice Palmer's political philosophy would give us additional insight into Barack Obama's political philosophy.

MIRANSHAH, Pakistan- A US missile strike targeting a high-level meeting of Al-Qaeda and Taliban commanders in a Pakistani tribal area missed most of them by just minutes, security officials said Friday.

Two missiles hit the house of Pakistani Taliban leader Hafiz Sahar Gul in the North Waziristan district bordering Afghanistan on Thursday night, killing nine people including six Arab militants, the officials said.

"There was a meeting of around 30 foreign Al-Qaeda and local Taliban commanders in the house of Hafiz Sahar Gul but the majority of them left the building ten minutes before the missile struck," a security official told AFP.

"The six Arabs who were killed are all believed to be lower level operatives," the official added on condition of anonymity.

Officials did not immediately give the identities of the targeted militants. But they said that they were not Al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden or his deputy, Ayman al-Zawahiri.

Barack H. Obama is running around telling everyone that the housing mortgage market collapsed primarily because of some vaguely described "deregulation" that took place sometime under George Bush--or maybe under Clinton; I'm not clear on that. I'm not sure he is.

Whatever his claim is, it's a lie.

The reality is that the housing market collapsed in large part because a coalition of race-baiting bullies brought very heavy pressure to bear on the banks to make more subprime loans on properties in low-income communities. Those who didn't approve the risky subprime loans were accused of "redlining"--i.e., refusing to make loans on properties in those neighborhoods.

Who were these bullies?

Some of the bullies were out in Washington pounding the tables and screaming at bank executives about "redlining".

At the same time, other bullies were stalking big city courthouses, filing frivolous and extortinate lawsuits against banks based on novel "disparate impact" theories of what might be held to constitute "redlining." In other words, even banks which were making lots of loans in low-income communities were being sued if they weren't approving just as many loans in low-income communities as they were in high-income communities.

Who were these mortgage extortionists?

These guys, to name a few:

Yes, that "Barack H. Obama."

OK, fair enough. Poor folks shouldn't be automatically denied loans, right?

But here's the thing: according to Obama's legal team, FIFTY-EIGHT PERCENT of a certain class of loan applicants living in 80%+ minority neighborhoods were approved for a loan. Far from being automatically denied, most of these applicants were approved. Also according to Obama's team, EIGHTY-ONE PERCENT of similar loan applicants living in 90%+ "white" (defined as European and Asian) neighborhoods were approved--and this is the source of the theory of harm put forth by the legal team.

Under the theory put forward, it wasn't enough, apparently, that most of the identified mortgage applicants in the minority neighborhoods were approved. The theory demanded parity in the statistics, despite the fact that properties in very different neighborhoods necessarily present very different risk situations. In other words, the lawyers sued Citibank because Citibank was, on balance, somewhat more likely to approve a loan for a property in a predominantly white neighborhood than on one in a predominantly black neighborhood. Given that predominantly black neighborhoods tend to be low-income neighborhoods characterized by low property values, was this phenomenon evidence of evil racism or just reasonable risk avoidance? I'll leave that to your judgment.

Ultimately, Citibank settled with Obama's firm rather than incur the expense of a protracted litigation. I haven't been able to locate a copy of the settlement agreement (it's likely sealed), but we can surmise as to what hoops it required Citibank to jump through going forward. The net result of this sort of litigation was, of course, that banks like Citibank started approving more subprime loans in the 1990s in order to avoid frivolous litigation brought by activists like Barack H. Obama.

The ultimate result of Obama's litigation and the banks' "litigation-avoidance" behavior is now reflected in your declining stock portfolio.

And no, you probably won't hear much about this in the mainstream media.

It is being reported that Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice might announce as early as today that the United States will remove North Korea from its list of state sponsors of terrorism.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Bush administration looks poised to provisionally remove North Korea from the State Department's terrorism blacklist, perhaps as soon as Friday, The Washington Post reported on Thursday.

The move would be an effort to keep a nuclear disarmament pact with North Korea from falling apart, the newspaper said in an article posted on its website, quoting sources close to the administration.

The newspaper quoted some sources as saying the delisting could happen as soon as Friday. But State Department spokesman Sean McCormack told the Post in an e-mail, " I can assure you that a decision has not been made."

I don't know about you, but I think this is enough to convince me that they should stay on the list:

North Korea deployed more than 10 missiles on its west coast apparently for an imminent test launch, a South Korean newspaper said on Thursday, and Pyongyang halted U.N. monitoring of its nuclear complex.

The potentially destabilizing actions followed reports the United States had offered to remove North Korea from its terrorism blacklist this month.

The International Atomic Energy Agency has said in recent days North Korea appeared to have been powering up its nuclear program and testing missiles. American satellite images confirmed reports of short-range missile testing recently, but the U.S. said those moves would not mean the death of international efforts to persuade North Korea to recommit to an agreement that offers it diplomatic and economic concessions in exchange for nuclear disarmament.

Would removing them from the terror list actually help men relations between North Korea and the U.S. or would we merely be giving them a pass? I personally think it would be a mistake. What say you?

A three-judge panel for the United States Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit has blocked the release of 17 Guantanamo detainees onto United States soil.

A friend of mine recently commented that the conservative movement suffers from a "failure of vision." Though my friend is briliant, I have to respectfully disagree. We on the right don't suffer from a failure of vision. We have plenty of big, dangerous, radical ideas. Just ask any lefty. Radical ideas like true federalism, school choice, Social Security privatization and concealed carry scare the bejeezus out of bedwetting left-wing hippies.

We don't suffer from a failure of conviction, passion or vision.

What we suffer from is a failure of LEADERSHIP.

For the most part, most of us stand around and wait for somebody else to take the banner of conservatism and run with it. I've come to the sad conclusion that this is the nature of humans. A disembodied philosophy does not become a movement without a vessel. John McCain is definitely not the vessel to embody conservatism. Thus, the conservative movement finds itself in something of a "holding pattern," waiting for a leader.

A year ago, we were placing our faith in Fred Thompson--and we did so passionately. Unfortunately, that didn't work out so well. Vision and philosophical underpinnings form one part of the equation, but energy and passion are necessary ingredients, as well.

Right now, we're all watching Sarah Palin. She certainly seems to have the right instincts, and she has the passion and energy. She's a fighter and she inspires us. Does she have what it takes to lead a philosophical/political movement, similar to the way Reagan and Thatcher did? That remains to be seen. While I'm not convinced yet, I'm liking what I'm seeing.

Back-up plan: If Sarah Palin is not up to the task, who else do we have?

I hear the names Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney bandied about, but I think we all know that neither man is really the leader we need. I've even heard the name "Huckabee." Please...

I like Mike Pence, but to be honest, he doesn't seem to want the job, either. That said, I could be wrong. I was encouraged by his leadership against the bailout.

Who else is out there? Bobby Jindal? Michael Steele? Michael Williams? Not that we need to have a "brown" or female leader necessarily, but the aforementioned individuals seem (along with Huckabee) to be among the few GOP leaders with a pulse these days.

DAMACUS (AFP) — Two young US journalists who went missing in Lebanon a week ago were detained in Syria on Thursday for entering the country illegally, the foreign ministry said.

"The Syrian authorities arrested two American nationals -- Holly Chmela and Taylor Luck -- because they illegally entered Syrian territory this morning with the help of a smuggler," a ministry statement said.

"The security services are now interrogating them to find out how they entered without the necessary visas. The two American nationals will be turned over to the United States embassy in Damascus after the necessary procedures are completed."

The statement said US charge d'affaires Maura Connelly had been called in to be briefed on the situation.

(Bartlesville, Oklahoma) Last month, the 45-year-old head of the Hells Angels in San Francisco, Mark "Papa" Guardado, was fatally shot (pic) in San Francisco's Mission District during a fight with a suspected rival motorcycle gang member. Guardado died at San Francisco General Hospital.

Based on witness reports, San Francisco Police identified 37-year-old Christopher Ablett as a suspect.

Last Sunday, Ablett turned himself in to the Bartlesville Police.

Christopher Ablett buzzed for assistance Sunday afternoon at police headquarters and said he wanted to surrender, Bartlesville Police Chief Tom Holland said.

"He was extremely cooperative; just as polite as could be," Holland said. [...]

Ablett is said to be a member of the Mongols Motor Club, a rival of the Hells Angels. Recent reports in California have linked assaults, shootings and pipe bomb explosions to tension between the groups.

When officials ran Ablett's name and fingerprints through their system, they found nothing tying him to any Oklahoma case.

Ablett then suggested that they expand their search nationally. As the California warrant for his arrest popped onto the screen with a $5 million bond attached, Ablett told the officers, "That would be me," Holland said.

A few years ago, some folks began raising questions about projects referred to as the "NAFTA Superhighway" and the "Security and Prosperity Partnership."

Our President and other government officials have ridiculed such questions as arising out of wild conspiracy theories and the product of hyperactive imaginations. Bush has described questions about the SPP and NAFTA Superhighway as "comical," and accused the questioners of engaging in "political scare tactics." Federal transportation officials and industry spokespeople have responded even more unequivocally:

"There is no such superhighway..." said Ian Grossman, a spokesman with the Federal Highway Administration. "It doesn't exist, in plans or anywhere else."

"It's complete fiction," said Tiffany Melvin, executive director of NASCO, a consortium of transportation agencies and business interests caught in the cross hairs of anti-highway activists. "This is the work of fringe groups that have wrapped a couple of separate projects together into one big paranoid fantasy."

COMPLETE fiction? Well, not quite. On further investigation, it turns out that both NAFTA superhighway(s) and the "Security and Prosperity Partnership" are, in fact, active government initiatives. Although most government agencies have dropped the controversial "NAFTA Superhighway" name at this point, there are, in fact, plans in place for several North American superhighways (aka "supercorridors") intended for NAFTA-related traffic. You can call them whatever you like. See, e.g., this page and this map.

Nonetheless, the mere existence of these plans and programs doesn't prove anything at all other than the fact that our economy is becoming more entangled with the economies of our neighbors and our infrastructure is being changed accordingly.

Here's my concern, though: if the NAFTA Superhighways and SPP simply reflect the realities of a world economy, why the need to conceal and/or shade the truth about these major projects? If they're such great ideas, why not sell them to the people instead of putting them all together behind the scenes and in closed meetings? And why the need to attack and ridicule those who have concerns?

As an example, this article ridicules Rep. Steve King (R-Awesome) for endorsing the idea that there's more going on than we're really being told about:

(Toronto, Ontario) A waste diversion consultant, Clarissa Morawski, has announced that coffee-sellers in Toronto must take action regarding take-out cups.

Companies that sell takeout coffee must create their own deposit-return system that keeps disposable cups out of litter and landfill, or governments will do it for them, says a waste diversion consultant.

It would be logical to expect new taxes to be levied to pay for the scheme. And, of course, a coffee cup recycling enforcement department will have to be created, staffed with Coffee Cup Recycling Officers.

Ominously, coffee stirrers and those little plastic creamer containers are mysteriously missing from the recycling scheme. Chances are that those miscellaneous items related to drinking coffee will magically appear in the enforcement legislation when it is enacted.

Proposed penalties for violations of the coffee cup law have not been disclosed, however, waste diversion consultant Morawski has indicated that they will be harsh. "If they don't act, then the risks are very big. That is the writing on the wall," she said.

In a complaint to the FCC, CBS is being accused of indecency by the Parents Television Council (PTC) for showing a penis during the season debut of Survivor: Gabon. The penis, owned by Marcus Lehman, popped out, ironically, in the first episode to be broadcast in high-definition.

CBS claims the penis was fleeting and virtually undetectable when viewed in real time. Marcus Lehman has not commented on the assertion that his penis is virtually undetectable when viewed in real time. (more)

(St. Louis, Missouri) This past summer, a bill was signed into law which specified that convicted sex offenders must avoid Halloween-related contact with children by confining themselves inside their homes from 5 PM to 10:30 PM on Halloween unless there is just cause to leave. "Just cause" was defined as an emergency or a job.

Furthermore, convicted sex offenders must keep the outside lights off and post a sign stating, "No candy or treats at this residence."

As a consequence, the American Civil Liberties Union of Eastern Missouri, representing four Missouri convicted sex offenders, has filed a lawsuit in federal court asserting that the Halloween law is too vague to enforce and it adds punishment to sentences already served.

According to Sen. John Loudon, the bill's sponsor, "It's kind of silly that people are raising the constitutional right of people to hand out candy on Halloween." (more)

Federal prosecutors asked a judge Monday to indefinitely postpone Tony Rezko's scheduled Oct. 28 sentencing on corruption charges, acknowledging they are engaged in talks with the former top political fund-raiser for Sen. Barack Obama, Gov. Blagojevich and others "that could affect . . . sentencing."

The Chicago Sun-Times first reported in August that Rezko might be cooperating with prosecutors. Since then, the talks, and the prosecution's efforts to confirm information Rezko has provided, have been an open secret. In September, sources close to the investigation confirmed the talks to the Sun-Times but said there was no deal with Rezko.

BAGHDAD – Coalition forces struck al-Qaeda in Iraq leadership elements and foreign terrorist facilitators cells Monday and Tuesday, capturing two wanted men and detaining 14 additional suspects.

Coalition forces captured one wanted man and detained two suspects Monday during an operation near Qayyarah, about 60 km south of Mosul. Intelligence reports suggest the wanted man has connections to regional AQI leadership and suspected terrorists already in custody.

AQI regional leadership was also targeted Monday in Kirkuk. There, Coalition forces detained five suspects believed to be associated with a wanted man assessed to conspire directly with the area’s AQI leaders.

Coalition forces operating in northern Iraq targeted AQI foreign terrorist facilitators Tuesday. In Tu’ Aym, about 38 km west of Mosul, forces detained four suspects allegedly associated with a man believed to facilitate the movement of foreign terrorists into Mosul. Several weapons, to include a sub-machine gun, and multiple military-style assault vests were also found at the location.

In Mosul Tuesday, forces captured one wanted man who detainee reporting suggests is a foreign terrorist facilitator. Two suspects were also detained during a related operation in Mosul targeting a wanted man believed to have connections with the city’s AQI leaders.

Authorities busting a suspected ID thief in Brooklyn stumbled upon a possible terrorist nest full of al Qaeda news clippings, chemical manuals and weapons literature, sources told The Post yesterday.

Cops made the disturbing find Thursday evening after a landlord found the photocopied IDs inside the apartment of a former tenant on Classon Avenue in Prospect Heights and dialed 311.

The tenant, Hisham Khaleel, 35, had been evicted.

Responding officers found 13 copied licenses, all of which appeared to belong to customers from the Vanderbilt YMCA on East 47th Street in Manhattan, where Khaleel worked briefly as an unarmed security guard.

Score one for the good guys.

Howard Gordon, the executive producer of the hit show 24, has retracted his endorsement of the Obsession DVD. His statement was released through CAIR, the Council of American Islamic relations. CAIR is an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation trail.

The article protrays Obsession as an "anti-muslim DVD...distributed by a shadowy non-profit organization called the Clarion Fund". What does the article say about CAIR? "A prominent national Islamic civil rights and advocacy group". No mention of it's ties to terrorism, it's "shadowy" source of funds, or one of it's leaders calling for the US constitution to be replaced by islamic law.

Remarking on Sarah Palin's debate performance, Maureen Dowd surgically dissects the wording and concludes that Palin is a political jukebox lacking substance.

Ms. Dowd uses terms like "pompom patois" and "sing-songy jingoism" as she criticizes virtually every single sentence uttered by Palin. Most assuredly, in yesterday's opinion piece in the Times, Ms. Dowd is everybody's least favorite English teacher.

In the mix, however, I believe Ms. Dowd stumbled upon a bit of accidental profundity.
