Chicago Man Knew of Mumbai Attacks in Advance, Congratulated Killers

This would be David Headley's Canadian accomplice Tahawwur Hussain Rana. Rana, like Headley, also called Chicago home.

It was Rana who supplied Headley with the cover he used to travel all over the world plotting terrorism. Headley set up a branch of Rana's First World Immigration Services in Mumbai where he helped plan last year's deadly massacre which killed 0ver 170. And it was under the guise of his 'employment' at First World that Rana also traveled to Denmark to lay out the ground work for an attack against the Jyllands Posten newspaper headquarters.

The original charges filed against Rana last month didn't make his role out to be that important. But yesterday the government filed papers in support of his continued detention clarifying that Rana had prior knowledge of the Mumbai attacks.

It is clear from the conversation and extrinsic corroboration that Rana was told just days before the Mumbai attacks that the attacks were about to happen. Elsewhere in the conversation, Rana asked Headley to pass Rana’s compliments directly to the specific Lashkar e Tayyiba member they both knew who had coordinated the attacks. Later in that conversation, Rana and Headley both discussed targeting the National Defense College in Delhi, India for a future attack.

Simply put, Rana’s own statements in this conversation, among others, completely belie his argument to this court that he is either a dupe or pacifist.

Thanks to Square Mile Wife for the tip and Aaron for the documents.
