Good News: Translators at Gitmo Have Jihad Sympathies, Coached Terrorists to Claim Abuse

I've been getting a lot of email lately about Paul Sperry's book Muslim Mafia. Mostly I've just ignored those emails since the vast majority of them have pretty much been press releases from WND. And since WND has gone Birther, I've pretty much been ignoring them.

How wrong I was. At least, wrong to discount everything they publish because some of what they publish I consider total BS. You might call this my inner Charles Johnson. It's a curse.

Consider this a mea culpa of sorts :

The possible new spy ring involves several Arabic linguists, some also Egyptian and Syrian immigrants. They’re suspected of, among other things:

* Omitting valuable intelligence from their translations of interrogations.

* Slipping notes to detainees inside copies of the Koran.

* Coaching detainees to make allegations of abuse against interrogators.

* Meeting with suspects on the terror watchlist while back in the United States.

I know the first instinct of some of my readers will be to say something about not hiring any Muslims, period. Dumb sentiment. Not a lot of Christians who speak Pashto out there.

We need Muslims.

But we also need to realize that Muslims are statistically much more likely to be sympathetic to Islamic extremists than, say, Lutherans. And that means heightened scrutiny and background checks which may seem unfair in theory, but in practice are necessary steps for our national security.

Anyway, I think I might need to pick up a copy of Sperry's book.

Thanks to Michelle who has more.
