Al Qaeda Moving from Pakistan to Somalia and Yemen

Well we knew that was coming. Al Qaeda in Somalia and Yemen, on both sides of the Bab al Mendab an international shipping choke point, is a bad prospect. Numerous ships from the NATO anti-piracy fleet are patrolling the waters. Maritime attacks are the hallmark of Yemeni al Qaeda.

There's quite a terror infrastructure in Yemen- recruiting, finance, transit, documentation etc. Al Qaeda has the freedom to operate in Yemen and the jihadist ideology is promoted by the state media and government preachers. There are many long standing relationships with sympathetic officials, not limited to the security or military.

NYT: American officials say they are seeing the first evidence that dozens of fighters with Al Qaeda, and a small handful of the terrorist groupís leaders, are moving to Somalia and Yemen from their principal haven in Pakistanís tribal areas. In communications that are being watched carefully at the Pentagon, the White House and the Central Intelligence Agency, the terrorist groups in all three locations are now communicating more frequently, and apparently trying to coordinate their actions, the officials said...
