"Moderation" Coming to Saudi Arabia
John Burgess says that this weekend's shake up of the Saudi government is a move in the right direction and constitutes 'major reform'. Then again, John has been pretty half-glass-full on the bane of civilization that is the Saudi Kingdom for as long as I've known him.
Hopefully he's right this time. Certainly the appointing of the first female cabinet level minister is a marked change.
Time will only tell if the fresh faces in the cabinet will lead to actual reform, but I remain skeptical. When they go ahead and decriminalize blasphemy call me. At that point I might concede that they've gone from a 7th century mentality to the 18th century. That would put them, what, only 300 years behind the curve?
