Just Say No to "Special Election" to Replace Obama
Via Chicagobusiness.com: (Crain’s) — The state’s top two legislative leaders Tuesday said they will move fast to seize control of the process of selecting a replacement for Barack Obama in the U.S. Senate, taking that power away from Gov. Rod Blagojevich.Well that's the effing dumbest idea I've ever heard! Funny how this is suggested by a bunch of Blagojevich's former friends. In separate statements, House Speaker Michael Madigan and Senate President Emil Jones said they will call a special legislative session next week to repeal the state law that now gives the governor the power to fill Mr. Obama’s seat. Both said they will press instead for a special election to fill the remaining two years of Mr. Obama’s term.
The Democrats running the state of Illinois want to waste time and blow a bunch more money on a special election? Can the state even afford that as broke as it is? Does anyone think Governor Rod will even sign this bill? Is this even legal? Why just strip him of one power? Take it all.
Lt. Governor Pat Quinn has called on Milorad Blagojevich to resign.
Via Sun Times: Lt. Gov. Patrick Quinn called on Gov. Blagojevich today to “do the right thing and step aside.”If Governor Rod won't resign by the end of this week, the best most efficient way to resolve this crisis is for a session to request that Mr. Fitzgerald present his evidence in an impeachment trial and he be removed from office ASAP.The No. 2 state official added, “I hope he does the appropriate thing for Illinois.”
There are too many critical decisions before the Illinois executive branch. Milorad Blagojevich has lost all credibility to make those decisions. In fact every decision he has ever made is now in question. Blagojevich has embarrassed the State of Illinois and its people. He should be removed immediately and Pat Quinn should be sworn in to make these critical decisions.
Its the only right and fair way to proceed.
Update: Another editorial calling for Governor Rod to go.
