Obama Coronation Threatens to Bankrupt DC
Bwahaha!
Soaring costs expected to accompany huge crowds in town for the Jan. 20 inauguration of Barack Obama could stick cash-strapped Washington, D.C., with a record-breaking bill for services.Hope and Change meets the cold hard realities of life. Realities like "stuff costs money." Realities like "soaring speeches don't sign city worker paychecks." Realities like "voting for some Chicago corrupticrat doesn't erase the cost of stuff."Security and capacity measures recommended by the District’s congressional delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton and others will almost certainly surpass the $15 million the federal government gives to the District each year to defray the cost of events, Norton said.
Police Chief Cathy Lanier expects to use an additional 4,000 police officers from all over the country in addition to her 4,000-member force, she said earlier this month. The city’s inaugural budget allows for only 3,000 extra uniformed officers. That's OK. His magical, uplifting rhetorical flourishes delivered in that sumptuous baritone will fix that. Whatsa matter? Don't you have any HOPE, Chief?
Imagine how much of this money, coupled with the $600 million he spent blanketing the US with campaign propaganda, could have gone instead to actually helping the poor or feeding the hungry. Where does it go instead? TV ads, followed by massive parties.
YES WE CAN bankrupt Washington. Let the masters show you how its done.
I think too many of you have resigned yourselves to depression over this clown's bamboozling of a gullible populace. Buck up, dammit! It's going to be entertaining watching this buffoon and his legions of sheep fall from the stratosphere and return to the surly bonds of this Earth over the next few years.
I'll be cheering them on all the way, urging them to heap their absurdities upon further absurdities. The American people voted for this, and they deserve nothing less than absurdities upon absurdities from their leadership. The One bankrupting Washington with his legions of disciples is a perfect symbolic send-off for what promises to be a hilariously over-serious, self-aggrandizing, over-reaching, pompous, preening, clusterf*ck of an administration.
It's Clinton's third term, people, and there will be lots of lulz to be had.
