Animal Welfare Act - More Nanny-State in Britain
(London, England) The Animal Welfare Act has been issued for comment and interested parties have eight weeks to voice their concerns. The new legislation specifies codes of practice for dogs, cats and horses to prevent cruelty.
The Act covers such subjects as routine dental care requirements for dogs, hiding places for cats and the exclusive use of positive reinforcement pet training methods.
Violations of the codes of practice will be used in determining guilt in pet welfare cases where convictions carry a maximum jail sentence of six months or a potential fine of £20,000.
Presumably, the British Parliament is pondering routine dental care requirements for humans also. (more)
