Biden Fact Check : Did Obama Oppose the Palestinian Elections??

Biden on elections in the West Bank:

Here's what the president said when we said no. He insisted on elections on the West Bank, when I said, and others said, and Barack Obama said, "Big mistake. Hamas will win. You'll legitimize them." What happened? Hamas won.
But news reports from that time tell a different story:
During His 2006 Trip To The Middle East, Obama Met With Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas And Said The Election Represented An "Opportunity...To Consolidate Behind A Single Government."...Obama asserted the US supports and [is] eager that the Palestinian legislative elections [take place at the] proposed time (January 25).
Further:
The Washington Post's Glenn Kessler notes that "Obama had been a senator for only a few days when the election took place, but if he made such statements, they did not appear in news reports or transcripts that are contained in the Nexis or Factiva databases."
