Palin Ponderings
When Sarah Palin's selection as John McCain's VP pick was announced on Friday, I was faced with driving in my car to a tiny town in the middle of my home state. In other words, I had much time on my hands and I was never happier for AM radio! Quite honestly, I'd been somewhat jaded with this election up until that point. While I likely would have voted for McCain, I wasn't particularly thrilled with him as a candidate. Once Friday's announcement was made, it was like a switch went off and I was beyond energized for the McCain-Palin ticket.
Some might immediately jump to the emotional side and say it's just because she's a woman and, as a woman, I'm excited to see the possibility that a female might actually become VP. I'm not really wired like that. Yes, she is attractive, she's a mother of five, she's been committed in her marriage for what some call a record period of time and she still has time to be mayor and then governor and is now on track to be Vice-President. She has faced corruption and stared it down, she has visited our troops and faces her oldest son's deployment to Iraq. She has tenacity that some only dream of and stands by her convictions to the point that her reputation precedes her. She's for drilling for oil on American soil, is pro-life, is pro-gun rights, and understands why we are at war. But a person doesn't need to wear a skirt and heels for me to be impressed with a similar track record. It just happens to be that she does.
It doesn't matter who McCain picked as his running mate, the leftards would still be digging and digging and digging to find the most loony, ridiculous fodder to beat them over the head with. There are so many disgusting stories about Palin's youngest child, her daughter's pregnancy, Palin's experience and association with various groups and so on and so forth. I think the attacks have been especially hate-filled as the left recognizes her strength as McCain's running mate. I think they'll use anything, including the fact that she's a woman, just to ensure their Holiness Overlord Emperor Ombamassiah gets elected. Did McCain do his "vetting" properly? I can virtually guarantee that he was fully prepared for and aware of every bullshit story the leftist wackos can pull out of their ass.
There are some, even those on the right, who think that she will bow to all the scrutiny and criticism, and withdraw from the election, tail between her legs - some have even said they think this because she's a woman. I think, on the contrary, these attacks will serve as ammunition for her to continue on this path and be even more determined to win the election in November. Every day, Americans are faced with the challenges of parenting and the challenges of their reputations being placed under scrutiny (I know I have). Americans know that hard work pays off. They also know that doing the right thing doesn't always mean it is easy or simple. Every day, Americans will have to make tough decisions in order to stand by their morals and beliefs. Many can relate to Sarah Palin because of how she has faced adversity and how she has reacted to the challenges placed before her. She also appears genuine and most definitely human. Because of this, I feel a great sense of comfort and relief to see her on the Republican ticket. I truly believe she will get the job done and will best represent who I am, just your every day American.
