Gay Honor Killing in Turkey
(Istanbul, Turkey) A 26-year-old, gay physics student, Ahmet Yildiz, died this past week after being shot as he was leaving a cafe near the Bosphorus Strait. It's believed to be the nation's first gay honor killing.
Yildiz's family has so far refused to take responsibility for his body which is common in honor killings.
Yildiz was very open about his homosexuality and had been warned to leave the country because his life was in danger. Unfortunately, he chose to stay in Turkey. (more)
