Pakistan Reaches Deal with Top Taliban Threat: Stop Killing Us and We'll Let You Kill the Americans
Good news: Baitullah Mehsud, the man described as more dangerous than Osama bin Laden, claims he has reached a deal with the Pakistani government in which they withdraw from the region controlled by him. In return, he promises not to attack Pakistani troops elsewhere and then to promptly use his new found breathing space to continue to send fighters over the Afghan border to kill American, NATO, and Afghani troops.
Sounds like a reasonable compromise, wouldn't you say?

WaPo:
Baitullah Mehsud, leader of one of Pakistan's largest extremist forces, issued a pamphlet directing his fighters to end attacks on Pakistani security forces in the country's troubled tribal areas and North-West Frontier Province, according to a spokesman for Mehsud's Pakistani Taliban....Sometimes, I don't think the nuke Pakistan option is such a bad idea.[Taliban spoksman] Omar vowed, however, to continue fighting U.S.-led NATO forces in Afghanistan. "The presence of the U.S and NATO forces in Afghanistan is the mother of all ill and there will be no peace until their presence in the region has ended," he said.
UPDATE: Roggio has the details of the peace plan, none of which include stopping cross-border attacks in Afghnistan.
I'm sure every one, including Barack Obama, thinks that such a deal is unwise. Not only for us, but for the Pakistanis who've made such deals in the past only to have it bite them in the ass.
But aren't the Pakistanis doing exactly what the Left is always clamoring for? Engaging in dialog with the enemy and then reaching political solutions. This is diplomacy as applied to terrorists, Islamists, and thugs.
