Hamas Offers Israel 'Hudna'
I belong to several e-mail groups, one of which had Brutally Honest comparing the MSNBC definition of 'hudna' with that of the BBC.
To which Bill Faith responded with his own definition of 'hudna':
(Arabic) "Let's you and me quit shooting at each other while I send off for more bullets."Ha, exactly!
Hudna perfectly reconciles the two accounts of what Jimmy Carter is offering Israel on behalf of Hamas with Hamas' rejoinder. Hamas can both offer a strategic truce for ten years while it gains legitimacy in the eyes of the world, thus freely buying bigger and better arms, while at the same time vowing to never recognize Israel's right to exist; and even better, implicitly threatening to wipe the 'Zionist entity' off the face of the map after the 10 year truce is over!
