Is Sistani Really Smacking Down Sadr or What?
Honestly I've no idea. AJ Strata e-mails with commentary and a link to this post from Bill Roggio.
The glass half full view emphasizes that we have a statement from Muqtada al Sadr that he'd disband the Mahdi Army if Grand Ayatollah Ali Sistani order it. Then a statement from Sistani that Maliki was in the right demanding Mahdi members to turn in their weapons. Sounds like a check mate on Sadrist power, right?
The glass half empty view: Sistani is leaving it up to al Sadr to disband the Mahdi Army himself.
After five years of dealing with these douchebags you can call me a pessimist if you want, but let's just say I'm skeptical that the Shia militia problem is going to go away any time soon.
UPDATE: Great minds think alike?
