Obama Backpedals, Distances Campaign From Controversial Pastor

In a statement to The Huffington Post, Senator Barack Obama sets the record straight regarding his views on Rev. Wright's comments:

Let me say at the outset that I vehemently disagree and strongly condemn the statements that have been the subject of this controversy. I categorically denounce any statement that disparages our great country or serves to divide us from our allies. I also believe that words that degrade individuals have no place in our public dialogue, whether it's on the campaign stump or in the pulpit. In sum, I reject outright the statements by Rev. Wright that are at issue. ...

The statements that Rev. Wright made that are the cause of this controversy were not statements I personally heard him preach while I sat in the pews of Trinity or heard him utter in private conversation. When these statements first came to my attention, it was at the beginning of my presidential campaign.

For the moment, let's take Barack Obama at his word.
Let's assume he does not share Rev. Wright's proclivities, and was unaware of them until he began his campaign.
Let's assume his association with this man says nothing about Obama's character or intent.

What then does this say about Obama's intelligence, perceptiveness and ability to lead a nation?
Here is a man he has had a close association with for 20 years... his friend, his mentor and the man who baptized his children.
And Barack Obama was completely unaware that this man is a raving lunatic.

How then will he fare as president, when he will have to gauge the true nature and intentions of foreign governments, our allies and our enemies?
How can we trust this man to make the right call, if he can't even determine the true nature of a man who has been so close to him for over two decades?

Either way you look at it, Obama is either too blind and incompetent, or too disingenuous and unpatriotic to be our nation's leader.
Take your pick.
