The Battle Is Over - And Blu-Ray Won!

It's all over for HD-DVD.
If you opted to buy an HD player over Blu-Ray... you made the wrong choice.

(AFP) — Sony's Blu-ray looks set to become the standard for high-definition DVDs after Toshiba signalled Monday that it may give up in a long-running format battle, to the relief of investors.

Toshiba Corp. is reviewing its HD DVD business and "a complete withdrawal is one of the options it is considering," an industry source told AFP on condition of anonymity.

Add to this the fact that WalMart, NetFlix and Blockbuster carry exclusively Blu-Ray, and you can see that HD DVD is set to slip into the annals of history, along with 8-Track tapes, vinyl records and the Walkman.

It's like Beta Vs. VHS all over again.
The only difference - Beta was a higher quality video format, but lost out to VSH when the technology was locked-in, due to lower production costs.
In this case, it seems Blu-Ray is the superior product, and is not simply being crammed down our throats by the manufactures because it's cheaper to produce.
