Why I Support Mitt Romney #1: He Gets the Global Jihad

Why do I support Mitt Romney? A number of reasons, but first and foremost is that he gets the global jihad. This is his official policy stance from his website. Does it sound familiar or what? Confronting Radical Jihad:

Jihadism – violent, radical, fundamental Islam – is this century's nightmare. It follows the same dark path as last century’s nightmares: fascism and Soviet communism. Many still fail to comprehend the extent of the threat posed by radical Islam, specifically by those extremists who promote violent Jihad against the United States and the universal values Americans espouse. Yet the Jihad has been with us for some time.

Radical Islam has one goal: to replace all modern Islamic states with a worldwide caliphate while destroying the United States and converting all nonbelievers, forcibly if necessary, to a fundamentalist form of Islam.

Merely closing our eyes and hoping that Jihadism will go away is not an acceptable solution. U.S. military action alone cannot change the hearts and minds of hundreds of millions of Muslims. In the end, only Muslims themselves can defeat the violent radicals. But we must work with them. The consequences of ignoring this threat – such as a radicalized Islamic actor possessing nuclear weapons – are simply unacceptable. [emphasis mine]

The site even has a map of key post-Cold War jihad attacks including the 1992 WTC attacks, the Beslan massacre, and the 1994 attack against a Jewish community center in Argentina.

The global jihad, he understands, is a long standing problem. It is not limited to al Qaeda. The global jihad didn't start with 9/11 nor did it start as a result of the Iraq war. It is not what the Democrats claim it is.

Admittedly, John McCain has a sense of the global jihad as well. What McCain doesn't get is that the borders are our first defense against would-be terrorists. No border security, no security.

Mitt gets that the border is an important issue to hawks such as myself. From Romney's website:

The number of illegal immigrants in the U.S. has exploded in the last decade from 3 million to over 12 million. We must secure the border, implement an enforceable employer verification system, punish sanctuary cities and reject amnesty if we are to restore Americans’ faith in the rule of law.
You think the border isn't related to the global jihad? I'm guessing you haven't hear of Adnan G. El Shukrijumah.
