Somali Government Attacks World Food Program Offices in Mogadishu
The WFP was apparently distributing food in areas perceived as "opposition." Starving the civilians is quite an inhumane tool of war. Funnily, the government denies carrying out the raid; however, the head of the WFP is being detained in a cell in the National Security Service headquarters.
MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP)--The head of U.N. food agency operations in the violence-wracked Somali capital was taken away Wednesday by 50 to 60 heavily armed government security officers who had stormed the U.N. compound in Mogadishu, the agency said. The World Food Program suspended aid distribution in Mogadishu in response. So now everybody starves.Interior Minister Mohamed Mohamoud Guled denied government officers carried out any operation at the U.N. compound....WFP's Idris Osman was being held in a cell at the and the World Food Program hasn't received any explanation for the action, the agency said in a statement, adding his detention violated international law.
