Jamilgate: Eason Jordan (!) Demands Panel Investigate AP (Bumped & Updated)

UPDATE II: The AP is just making just making it worse for itself. Executive Editor Kathy Carroll has essentially told the inquiring minds to go to hell. For good measure, here's an earlier Jawa Report response to her organization's cannonization of Green Helmet Guy. In typical AP style, they have quietly removed the article from which the Green Helmet Slideshow was attached. Courage. Courage. Courage. Ace offers some advice to Carroll and Company: Remember TNR's Stephen Glass.

UPDATE: Ace has deemed the story worth of the fabled flaming skull. More at Confederate Yankee (who has a monster post up examining 40 of the 61 stories in which Hussein was a source, and his conclusions) and Flopping Aces.

Uh oh. This is perhaps comporable in principle to a former Republican President criticizing the current Republican President.

We'll see how long it lasts, but the stonewalling of the AP regarding the Jamil Hussein scandal has gotten so bad that Eason Jordan (yes, that Eason Jordan) is even demanding that the AP appoint an independent panel to investigate and uncover the truth here.

And yes, I and others have been very critical of the former CNN Baghdad bureau chief, with good reason. That should indicate how badly the AP botched this incident. One can't exactly say whether Jordan is doing this out of true journalistic interest or for some other unknown reason, but it frankly doesn't matter. What's right is right.

Happy New Year, AP! Its time to pay the piper, because this story isn't going away. Produce 'Iraqi Police Captain Jamil Hussein' or retract his dozens and dozens of stories.
